We went here at ~2 pm on a Friday. The restaurant was empty, and we ordered the hot-and-spicy. Other chicken options were fried and mild-and-sweet. Other reviewers mentioned ordering half-and-half, but we only saw that listed for the wings and didn't want wings. We also ordered a side of mashed potatoes and got the order to-go. Our wait was about 15 minutes, so we sat and watched Korean news and read magazines (English) from a large stack near the front of the store. The chicken was delicious, but very spicy. It was definitely korean hot-and-spicy. So if you're a whitey (like myself) and not used to korean spicy, consider yourself warned. Even with the cooling radishes, I had to stop eating because my mouth burned. My half-korean friend (who loves spicy food) did not experience this, uh, problem. The chicken was delicious, though -- spicy with a touch of sweetness. The mashed potatoes were instant mashed potatoes with a bland gravy. We prefer the potatoes and gravy at Popeye's. As others have mentioned, there was a lot of leftover sauce on the chicken. Next time, I will make rice at home and eat the rice mixed with the sauce as the side. I believe it cost ~ $16 for the chicken and $1.89 for a side (serves 2-4) of mashed potatoes. read more

I think I am the only one out of my friends or anyone here who prefers this place over Bon Chon. Yes Bon Chon is super crispy , the way fried chicken should be, however taste wise, Chugajip just tastes so much better than bon chon. Maybe it is because it is somewhat nostalgic for me. I was in Korea in the late 80s when I tried this "korean chicken" there. i loved it so much that i had it 3-4 times a week! Anyways it was hard finding a taste that was similar until I tried this place. Yes it was sort of like that scene from Ratatouille where the reviewer tries wahtever that dish was called (EDIT: yea its also called ratatouille lol) and he saw his past. Reason why Im reviewing this place today is because I JUST HAD SOME lol. i dont like the spicy ones because although i love spicy food, this is just too damn spicy. Great service - it takes about 20 minutes for chicken to be ready, and you can call ahead if you want to reduce the wait time! They do not serve pizza at this location. I tried both spicy and sweet & mild and surprisingly preferred the latter. Spicy one is still good, but simply not as good as the other kind. Tried their french fries as well and they come out hot and fresh as well, but I think next time I'll save more room for the chicken. I usually dine-in here. Here are why I give this place two stars: 1. The size of chicken is very irregular and small. I was wondering what kind of chicken they are using... I mean it's yummy, but the chickens I had here (original and one with sweet and spicy sauce) had no meat on them. I was surprised that nobody complained about this. 2. When you order water, they give you a half glass of water without ice. They don't come check you for refilling water or anything. They ask you if the food is good, and then leave... like what... give me more water. 3. My friend had a birthday dinner here, and we asked for is it possible to have extra plates, the server lady yelled at me "WOW. You better tip me more for this" and she gave like 3 more plates (we were going to pay more tips, and we ordered a lot of food too). 4. I was the only Korean girl in the group, so I was talking to her in Korean, but I don't feel like she treated my friends, including the birthday girl like other customers. 5. I know this place has a "traditional" Korean chicken, but they need to improve their service for sure. Tips: If you like chicken here, take it to-go. Also, beer here tastes like it's watered down. I went here along with a troupe of noisy Yelpers. Cheogajip fed us lots of spicy chicken that was fresh and hot and tasty!! I'm taking away one star because there's no ice cream to cool off the spice burn (and maybe because cans of pop are $1.50 each), but other than that, this place is great fast food! If one was in metro range, I'd be gettin fat. Cheogajip decidedly is very very tasty fried chicken that slaps the American chains silly! Oh! And hot means HOT for real. It's so hard to get takeout from them because then my whole car smells and I can't wait to get home to devour those yummy marinated wings! Also, I've never had bad service from this place. I ordered sweet and mild whole chicken and fried gizzard with sweet and spicy sauce. The fried gizzard was HORRIBLE - it was very dried and hard to chew, it looked really old. Very VERY DRY AND TOUGH. Grease was black so the fried gizzard was not fresh at all. It was also not crispy as it should be. EWWW. It was more oil greased-pan fried than deep fried. It cost as half of my whole chicken order. I do not recommend it at all. Go to choongman for the same items for freshness. Better quality and fried-ness. read more

Okay so I've tried cheogajip a bunch of times b/c it's super close to where I live and I have liked that they use a whole chicken, but everyone told me bon chon is better so I tried that too! It seems that everyone is saying that Bonchon is better, but i have to disagree. Granted, if you really are looking for fried chicken then yes bonchon is double fried and crispy. I personally thought it was too crispy and i have this weird thing where I don't necessarily like it when there are only drumsticks and wings and it was too salty. I love this place! The first time we went there we sat in the restaurant, needless to say we were the only ones. Lots of people, all Korean, came in and ordered food to go or picked up food. We decided to order half spicy and half mild chicken; Yes, they give you a whole chicken (in pieces of course). I knew Koreans eat some hot food, but being Indian and loving spicy food myself, I thought I could devour the spicy chicken, but boy was I wrong. After shitload of water I killed it! The Mild is soo damn delicious. It tastes like a lot of garlic, ginger, sesame and probably honey-ish sweetness. The chicken is fried perfectly, crispy outside and moist, juice inside. Ohh and you get some sides too. Next time around we got the chicken to go on Sunday morning, and made some waffles at home. Take that IHOP! Huge fan of this place. The hot and spicy and sweet and mild sauces both are bursting with flavor. The hot has a good level of heat to it without sacrificing flavor. The sweet isn't sickeningly sweet and is overall well balanced with other spices. Since I crave their sauces the sauce to chicken ratio is perfect for me, heavy on the sauce. One thing to be aware of is that this is whole chicken cut up into smaller pieces, bones and all. This also means though that you'll be getting juicy crispy chicken packed with flavor. I've tried other Korean fried chicken in Centerville, but keep finding myself disappointed flavor-wise compared to cheogajip. Couple things that detract a little are that the sides are somewhat limited. I find myself wanting rice to lap up the extra sauce but it's strangely not on the menu. Located right next to H-Mart, Cheogajip offers a prettied varied selection of chicken (fried, whole rotisserie chicken, spicy, mild, etc.) Today I got an order of half spicy, half regular which comes with 16-18 wings and legs. The spicy sauce has a good kick to it, but the regular wings are very bland and I would advise against ordering that. They also have mozzarella sticks and onion rings as a side option! read more

This place is a favorite of the hubby's. He actually prefers it to Bon Chon as it's juicier and caters to the more "korean taste"-ing sauce. The owner is very nice and always tells me to take more moo (radish pickles), or drink since she knows our faces. Their pitchers of beer are reasonably priced and are a great addition to their chicken for a good meal. - love their 1/2 and 1/2. we always get the 1/2 seasoned mild chicken, and 1/2 fried. Their service sucks! They rang up different prices several times in a row at this point. I went in with a 10% coupon several months ago and the lady at the register started complaining that they asked the online coupon website to stop long time ago that she doesn't know how I got hold of it. I got the coupon right on that day! She said this would be the last she would honor the coupon but somehow she(pretended that she didn't know how to work the register) added 10% to the bill. And couple days ago I called to order a take-out and all of sudden they started charging for the same sauce I normally get with the popcorn chicken and I asked her if they increased the price. All she had to say was to be honest and say that's the case but no she said it's been like this since 4 years ago. At one point she accused me of lying. this is a korean fried chicken place that not a lot of people know about. (located next to hmart) chicken - 3.5/5 stars the chicken comes in sweet & mild, spicy, and plain (no marinade). the marinade is better than bonchon imo - its more saucey and garlic-ey (mmmmm garlic mmmm sauce). tastes more authentic like the chicken you would get in korea. the spicy chicken is REALLY spicy (would not recommend for people who can't handle spicy foods. the plain chicken is good - very crunchy and well seasoned; the white meat pieces can be a little dry though. all chicken dishes are ordered either as half or whole chicken, which then come in smaller pieces vs. bonchon where you only get either the wings or drumsticks. radishes are also given. i personally would've liked the marinated chicken to be a bit crispier but my friends didnt seem to mind how it was as is. they give pretzel sticks and rice crackers to munch on while you wait for the food to come out which is a nice touch. the chicken can take a little while to come out since they are fried to order, so would recommend calling ahead and ordering before you come in to minimize wait time. we called in 10 min ahead of time and only ended up waiting 10 min at the restaurant. good place to satisfy your chicken and beer cravings. definitely not as greasy/oily as some of the other korean friend chicken places like bonchon (and you also dont leave the place smelling like a grease ball). but on days when im letting my inner fat kid indulge, i'll probably go for the double fried crispiness of bonchon instead. worth giving this place a try if you like yangyum chicken and want to explore options other than bonchon. read more

I thought this place was fantastic. We stumbled across it after a long day of SpaWorld. 3 of us ordered two fried chicken platters - one sweet, one spicy, and a pitcher of beer. First of all the quantities are HUGE; we ate a lot and still had a ton of leftovers. I liked both flavors of chicken. It was fresh and not greasy. It's REAL chicken, not chemical flavorings. The mashed potatoes were great; we didn't try any of the other sides. The owners were so friendly. They wanted to know how we found the place (we WERE the only round-eyes in the room) and we explained that M. heard about it through a friend. I've never felt so welcomed. If I want chicken, I come here. End of story. It is the best all around and can't be matched anywhere else. I usually get the hot and spicy sauce, and depending on how hungry I am and how many people I go with I'll either go with the whole chicken or the popcorn chicken. But always with an order of fries. The hot and spicy is super spicy, and the sweet and mild is, well its sweet, no kick to it at all. Best chicken in town but they recently changed their fries. Used to be really good but now have cheap steak fries. Get the hot sauce on the side as you can manage the heat better. It's Sunday afternoon when I have my whole family with me. We bought some steam rice from Hmart prior to going here because we know this establishment do not have any rice of any sort ( I am Asian, I need rice in my life ), any who, after my cousin in law had finished ordering for her family the lady that was a cashier at this time ask how many people ( why would you ask?!) was with her and her reply was 10ppl. The moral of this review is, don't ever roll your eyes to any of your guest because it will creat a negative profit to your establishment. You would have been up is sales by at least $100 usd for this hour because we where the only family that was in your establishment at that time. I love when I order something spicy at a restaurant and get warned that it's spicy because it *actually is spicy*. That's the case at Cheogajip. They don't skimp on the spiciness of their spicy chicken. When places tell me that, I'm always like yeh whatever, I like spicy, bring it on. But the warnings here are well deserved. I was totally fine with the heat level, but I could see how it would quickly become overwhelming for others. The overall taste of the chicken was really nice though. The one thing I was surprised about was the lack of options. I was hoping for individual meals w/ like a side and drink, but the only options were whole or half chicken, popcorn chicken, or wings. So I got the half spicy chicken and a side of mashed potatoes, ate half of that, and took the rest home. The mashed potatoes were very mediocre. I probably wouldn't order them again. But this apparently isn't the place for awesome sides. It's the place for chicken. I'm only reviewing take-out wings. The wife brought home a box of half-half mild and spicy chicken. It was her/our first time trying out their wings (and to-go at that), so we had no idea. Out of the box, the chicken has a lot of sauce on it (think chinese kung pao chicken batter w sauce variety). First mental note: next time little sauce or no sauce, or better yet, sauce on the side! The pickled radish (daikon) cubes were sooo money!!! Wife tells me they came with the order, so that's a goodie! Mild ones were ok, but when we bit into the spicy wings...ouch!! that's THERMONUCLEAR RED ALERT FIRE HOTTT!!! both our mouths and lips were burning. My wife chugged down the sweet vinegar pickle juice to neutralize it...haha. WE WILL NEVER order the hot wings again! Curious tho to try everything else next time - at the restaurant.
