My Korean foster dog getting her first exam with Dr. M. They were very gentle with her.

We love Dr. Michelle and her staff! I have been bringing my pom to Arroyo for years since it was owned by Dr. Paul. I also brought my adopted kitten and foster dog from Korea for their first exam. Dr. M is very thorough, explains well in a friendly and non-pushy / judgemental manner that I experienced at another vet closer to my house (do not recommend Serra). They're very gentle and friendly with my animals, using lots of treats and wet food at times to help with shots. It made my foster dog's (dog meat trade survivor) vaccination not even noticeable for her! My pom had his teeth cleaning and extraction here after getting his tooth knocked out. The prices are reasonable compared to other vets for the high quality of care we receive. They are very busy, so do call in advance. For urgent matters, it may be tough to get in sooner, but try first. I wish I had called to see if they could squeeze my pom in sooner when his tooth got knocked out, rather than the poor experience we had with the ER vet closer to my house. I also appreciate that they offer PetDesk, so I can easily keep track of my pet's vaccinations when they're due. I will continue to bring my fur babies to Arroyo!

We've been coming to see Dr. Michelle now for well over a decade, starting with our beloved pit-boxer mix Charlie and now with our new pit-mix Bindi. First and foremost, Dr. Michelle loves pittie pups and that goes a LONG way. She had a dog of her own who could have been Charlie's twin and loved trading stories. We always love chatting with her and the vet techs are wonderful as well. Super friendly, clearly love dogs, and professional. They'be taken good care of us and our fur babies. Couldn't be happier and will come to Arroyo as long as they're there. They have loyal customers in us!

I've been a client of Arroyo for over 8 years. One of my dogs was at an emergency veterinary hospital this past weekend with bleeding from his rectum. They did complete bloodwork and x rays and determined he had HGE. He was given fluids and injections and sent home with several medications totaling over $2,000. I was told by the emergency hospital staff to follow up with my regular vet on Monday, so I emailed Dr Michelle to let her know what was going on. She did return an email on Sunday telling me the clinic is closed Monday's. I then asked if she would see him Tuesday, she didn't respond. I emailed her through the next couple days (Sunday Monday and Tuesday) with no response from her other than a reply email on Sunday saying if my dog got worse I should return to the emergency hospital where I went or call them directly. On Tuesday, when she was back in the office, she had one of her receptionists call me, (not even an assistant) to answer one of my questions regarding continuing medications given by the emergency vet. I had questions that Dr Michelle had not answered, one being could she see him for his follow up? The receptionist said she would need to talk to the Dr and would call me back. I called later in the afternoon and was told they were very busy but she would call me. No one ever called me. I also emailed again to Dr Michelle directly and she did not respond. I then went Wednesday to vets and pets and they saw me right away and were so kind to my dog and me. I sent a final email Weds letting Dr Michelle know I went to vets and pets since I had gotten no responses. She sent me a reply late evening Wednesday stating I should permanently go to vets and pets and had already emailed them my pups records. She never addressed why she hadn't responded. She deflected all of my emails basically telling me how she goes above and beyond and other veterinarians do not. This was really arrogant...who says that?? She never took ownership for not responding to a good client of 8 years, it was just a chance to get rid of a client that she is too overloaded to be concerned about. Don't let this veterinarian fool you, there is not genuine concern for your pets, it is about the dollars. She has cut hours, you will end up needing a back up vet, as they are a part time clinic and always booked. The excuse is she can not hire another vet with her high expectations?? What a joke! She showed me she had a lack of complete compassion and had no regards or care for how my dog was doing, and that was the most hurtful. I think any other veterinarian would be more caring. Do yourself a favor, go to vets and pets, as they are more compassionate, available, and a sincere practice to take your animals. Believe me, you will need a back up anyway with Arroyo, and that's foolish to start with!

BEST VET EVER. I'm so glad we live close to Arroyo because they're seriously amazing. All the vets and staff here are down to earth and sweet. Best part is that I feel like they treat my pup like they'd treat their own pets. Have not been disappointed at all by their service. Here's a pic of my pup Santo

I've had my dog since he was 8 weeks old, and all of his care had been handled here for years. My first major concern happened during his neuter procedure. The staff emphasized that we needed to arrive exactly at 8 AM, so I gave my dog a bath beforehand since I knew he wouldn't be able to bathe after surgery. My dog is hypoallergenic and has hair rather than fur, so he takes a long time to dry. He was still slightly damp when we arrived because I didn't have enough time to fully blow-dry him before the appointment. Hours went by without any communication from the clinic, so I finally called to check on him. That's when they informed me they hadn't even started the procedure because they were waiting for him to dry off in the kennel. I was extremely upset that nobody thought to call and tell me my dog's surgery had been delayed for hours over something so minor. After the surgery, I followed all post-op instructions, but weeks later the stitches still had not dissolved and my dog was becoming irritated. Because my trust had already been shaken, I ended up going to another vet for a second opinion and to have the stitches removed. Despite all of this, I decided to give the clinic another chance. My dog had his first dental cleaning and extraction here when he was around 3, and now at age 7 he needs another cleaning. This time, however, they suddenly said that because of his underbite they could no longer handle his "anatomical challenges" and referred me to a specialist in Aptos that charges nearly double and is completely out of the way. What doesn't make sense to me is that they successfully cleaned his teeth before, but now they're saying they can't do it again. After more than six years of bringing my dog here with no major medical issues, it's incredibly disappointing to now feel like they no longer want to service him. Overall, the customer service has been poor. Communication is lacking, emergencies don't seem to be prioritized appropriately over routine appointments, and my experiences here have left me very disappointed and frustrated.

I'm very disappointed with my experience at this clinic…read more I brought my dog in for a blood draw, and what I saw afterward shocked me. The area on her neck was extremely red, there was bleeding, and a large scab formed. This did not look like a normal needle mark, it looked like trauma to the skin. Animals cannot speak. They cannot tell us what they experienced, so we rely on clinics to treat them with care and proper technique. Seeing this on my dog raises serious concerns about the quality of care here. When I went back to talk to them, I received no clear explanation or real help. My concerns were not taken seriously. We have been coming here for four years, but this completely broke our trust. We will NEVER COME BACK AGAIN! I will be posting a comparison photo of my friend's dog after a blood draw, the difference is obvious.

Bruno, our yorkie, who passed away last year…read morewell into his teens was a really sweet little guy and was always treated gently by the staff and Dr Bakhari. When Bruno passed away it was at the clinic (it was his time, he was in pain). They gave us the space we needed with him to say goodbye and made a difficult situation no more difficult than it needed to be. I want to talk a little about their prescription policies, after reading a review about frustration that ELC asks to speak to you directly instead of just sending prescriptions to other places, or wanting to make an appointment before renewing certain prescriptions. It's literally relevant to the phone call I had with them today! My cat Guava has had urine crystals in the past and was put on prescription food, since then he's had no issues. I called in to renew the prescription since Chewy bounced it back to me as expired. They asked me to bring him in to do a check up and urinalysis before renewing the prescription. Honestly, because he's been doing so well, I didn't even think to do that. At first I was like "aw man but he's fine! He's doing so well!" But I thought about it: this really speaks to the level of care they have for our animals. Sometimes we think everything's fine and we only find out it's not fine when it's *super* not fine. It's been a couple years since he was last checked out. If you don't know about cat urine crystals, they can lead to blockages which are fatal. I really appreciate that they want to make sure he's okay. I let them know I needed a week or two to figure out finances for the appointment and they said they could still send my boyfriend home with Guava's prescription food from their office in the meantime. And the lady on the phone was extremely kind and non-judgmental, which meant a lot. They've been nothing but fair to us, kind, and loving to my animals. When Guava had to be checked in for several days back when he had his crystals, they let me come into the back and sit with him while he was recovering, sticking my fingers through the bars to pet his head and give him what comfort I could. So yeah, I get the prescription thing can be inconvenient, but they care, and that matters more to me than anything.

I explained the situation, but was told they were fully booked and could only provide the phone number of an emergency veterinary hospital. That said, we are actually going to the same vet for exactly the same reason, and I have personally seen a great deal of compassion from them. They are closed on Sundays and only open a half day on Saturdays, which can make urgent situations challenging, but my experiences with their staff have shown that they genuinely care about the animals they treat. Another perspective is that many pet owners feel emergency hospitals can charge dramatically more than regular clinics, making them seem like a rip-off for relatively simple procedures. I understand that clinics have schedules and capacity constraints, but I was surprised that no effort was made to accommodate a senior dog in distress, even for what appeared to be a brief procedure. I had hoped for a bit more compassion and understanding given the circumstances. Compassion and flexibility are qualities many pet owners look for in a veterinary practice, especially when dealing with urgent situations involving elderly animals. While the staff was polite, the lack of any attempt to help beyond providing another phone number left me feeling unsupported at a stressful time. Based on this experience, I would hesitate to rely on this clinic during an urgent situation.
