This review is SO overdue! I have been coming to Dr. Michelle for 9yrs . She is amazing!! Where do I begin!? I just love her staff. Everyone is so friendly and helpful, and they really all care about animals. Dr. Michelle has always been wonderful. She listens, she's patient, my dogs love her, she's professional and just a pleasure to coordinate with when it comes to my dogs' care. I lean on the more holistic side of care, and I love that Dr. Michelle really takes that into consideration when we are discussing health and meds. She doesn't just run to medication for the answer all the time. I really appreciate the balance of some holistic remedies with modern medicine for the dogs. My older dog Snickers has pancreatitis and he is on prescription food, but Just Food for Dogs as a topper and other vitamins she suggested. Also, the prices here are very reasonable. I've had to take the dogs to other vets on the occasion the office is closed for a week, and other vet prices are very pricey! Arroyo Animal Clinic doesn't try to sale me on procedures or meds. We just address what is needed. There isn't a sales pitch like some other vets do. Things can get expensive (I've had surgeries here, teeth cleanings, blood panels, and all those are not cheap. But still overall service and care cannot be beat. They really do care about you and you're animal. All in all, Arroyo Animal Clinic has been my go to veterinary for years, and I'm not going anywhere else. I drive from San Jose to come here and will continue do so until Dr. Michelle closes shop. read more

The team did an emergency surgery on my dog that they later decided was bigger than they could handle and needed to go back into surgery at an animal hospital capable of handling the surgery. I had to transport my otherwise healthy 3 year old English Bulldog 40 minutes away right after he was out of first surgery with open wound. My dog ended up not making it out the next surgery due to complications of intubation. But I wonder if they would have just referred me to the capable vet instead of offering to do the surgery they were confident in after reading X-rays and later decided they were not capable of doing maybe I would have a different outcome. read more

Dr. Michelle and her team are amazing! I have been coming since 2010. And as I adopt/rescue senior dogs, I am on my 3rd dog so far. Dr. Michelle is phenomenal, and her team of vet techs, and other staff are superb. All of my dogs have been treated with the utmost care and genuine concern. We love Dr. Michelle and her staff! I have been bringing my pom to Arroyo for years since it was owned by Dr. Paul. I also brought my adopted kitten and foster dog from Korea for their first exam. Dr. M is very thorough, explains well in a friendly and non-pushy / judgemental manner that I experienced at another vet closer to my house (do not recommend Serra). They're very gentle and friendly with my animals, using lots of treats and wet food at times to help with shots. It made my foster dog's (dog meat trade survivor) vaccination not even noticeable for her! My pom had his teeth cleaning and extraction here after getting his tooth knocked out. The prices are reasonable compared to other vets for the high quality of care we receive. They are very busy, so do call in advance. For urgent matters, it may be tough to get in sooner, but try first. I wish I had called to see if they could squeeze my pom in sooner when his tooth got knocked out, rather than the poor experience we had with the ER vet closer to my house. I also appreciate that they offer PetDesk, so I can easily keep track of my pet's vaccinations when they're due. I will continue to bring my fur babies to Arroyo! read more

We have taken our dogs to Arroyo for over 10 years now, and have had great care and responsive support for most of it. Recently our senior dog (13) developed a chronic condition. Dr Michelle did a great job of diagnosing it and we had a good one on one discussion at the appointment. Also, the vet techs are gentle and positive with my dogs, so preventative visits are comfortable and positive. My biggest problem now is with communication and availability. We used to get lab results emailed to us immediately, and now I have to request them every time. Used to get follow up phone calls after surgery or sick visits, and now silence. We used to be able to talk with someone on Monday, and now... You get the picture. Five stars for the quality of service there, 2.5-3 for the follow up, communication and hours. read more

I've been a client of Arroyo for over 8 years. One of my dogs was at an emergency veterinary hospital this past weekend with bleeding from his rectum. They did complete bloodwork and x rays and determined he had HGE. He was given fluids and injections and sent home with several medications totaling over $2,000. I was told by the emergency hospital staff to follow up with my regular vet on Monday, so I emailed Dr Michelle to let her know what was going on. She did return an email on Sunday telling me the clinic is closed Monday's. I then asked if she would see him Tuesday, she didn't respond. I emailed her through the next couple days (Sunday Monday and Tuesday) with no response from her other than a reply email on Sunday saying if my dog got worse I should return to the emergency hospital where I went or call them directly. On Tuesday, when she was back in the office, she had one of her receptionists call me, (not even an assistant) to answer one of my questions regarding continuing medications given by the emergency vet. I had questions that Dr Michelle had not answered, one being could she see him for his follow up? The receptionist said she would need to talk to the Dr and would call me back. I called later in the afternoon and was told they were very busy but she would call me. No one ever called me. I also emailed again to Dr Michelle directly and she did not respond. I then went Wednesday to vets and pets and they saw me right away and were so kind to my dog and me. I sent a final email Weds letting Dr Michelle know I went to vets and pets since I had gotten no responses. She sent me a reply late evening Wednesday stating I should permanently go to vets and pets and had already emailed them my pups records. She never addressed why she hadn't responded. She deflected all of my emails basically telling me how she goes above and beyond and other veterinarians do not. This was really arrogant...who says that?? She never took ownership for not responding to a good client of 8 years, it was just a chance to get rid of a client that she is too overloaded to be concerned about. Don't let this veterinarian fool you, there is not genuine concern for your pets, it is about the dollars. She has cut hours, you will end up needing a back up vet, as they are a part time clinic and always booked. The excuse is she can not hire another vet with her high expectations?? What a joke! She showed me she had a lack of complete compassion and had no regards or care for how my dog was doing, and that was the most hurtful. I think any other veterinarian would be more caring. Do yourself a favor, go to vets and pets, as they are more compassionate, available, and a sincere practice to take your animals. Believe me, you will need a back up anyway with Arroyo, and that's foolish to start with! read more

I've been taking my pup here since Sept. 2019, when she was just 8 weeks old and Dr. Michelle is very knowledgeable and pleasant to speak with. She will listen to your concerns & questions and offer you realistic advice and solutions. During the time that I was out of the country, the staff at the Arroyo Animal Clinic did a very good job of taking care of my then 4 month old pup, while she was boarded in the facility for about 14 nights. Whenever my pup comes here, she is never apprehensive or scared, in fact, she's always so happy to come in to see everyone, which says a lot! Personally, I haven't had any negative experiences during my time both on the phone or inside of the clinic. Everyone I've seen and spoken to at the Arroyo Animal Clinic have always been nice, friendly and professional. I've honestly never received any attitude from anyone working here. You can schedule appts by either calling or by using the PetDesk app and if you do, you'll receive a call back to confirm, which is very convenient. Their costs are reasonable and I can tell they're not in it for the money, they don't try to add on unnecessary services or nickel and dime you. Dr. Michelle and her awesome staff are hard working and they genuinely care about their clients, both pets and people. This hospital used to be my favourite vet clinic. After covid, they started being and acting like an a-hole. They charge you extra fees for whatever they can but the thing is they don't tell you. You only realised it until you saw the bill which is unacceptable. Poor services, the receptionist is being very rude. I was attracted to this vet's office because it's smaller and I thought it might be an opportunity to form a connection with my vet so that my animals get respect and proper care. I really liked working with Dr. Ekaterina "Kate" Fedorova, but she is no longer working with Arroyo Animal Clinic. I have noticed however that Arroyo has had a lot of veterinarian staff turn over, in a short amount of time - like 90% of the staff left in one year. This frustrating because I do like to build personal relationships with my vet and I am not able to do that here. I am one of those people that bring my pets to the vet often (sometimes multiple times a year) because I care, and I expect my veterinarian to care too. I have one terminally ill cat, I am no longer able to bring him in for services because his risk of stroke or heart attack is very high - specifically driving in the car and the long waits in the lobby. I received a rude phone call the other day from a staff member at Arroyo Animal Clinic informing me that they will no longer fill any of my cats prescriptions in the next 30 days if he doesn't have a check up with the "new vet", Dr. Aisha Admani (note: I have never met this vet before and I was not told Dr. Kate had left). Either they did not bother to read my cats medical chart (and chart notes from his licensed vet cardiologist) before calling or they are in this for the money. The rude and accusatory tone of the Arroyo staff member on the other end of the phone call has turned me off to working with them in the future. I also had issues with them remembering to fill my prescriptions on time, most vets will offer automatic refills for a few times. But Arroyo did not do that and it meant every prescription was delayed by a matter of many days (even if you use their own pharmacy website). In generally this clinic seemed disorganized, it might be because they are still using paper files. Even though most services are reasonable charged, they like to nickel and dime with extra fees for vaccines and other vet tech services. Because I had great service in the past, and because this is a smaller independently owned clinic I leave it at two stars. Hopefully something changes with their process soon! After 5 unsuccessful calls to other vet hospitals looking for a rabbit vet on duty, I finally called Arroyo and they were able to squeeze me in within a few hours. The vet was quick to meet me and she helped me realize what was going on with my bunny. She made me feel a lot better that my bunny was going to be okay and wasn't in critical condition. In addition to the excellent service, the doctor said she'll check in on me in a couple days to make sure my bunny is healing fine. read more

This Vet is full of herself, she claims she needs work life balance so only works 32 hours a week (this is not work life balance, it's part time work). All beloved pets deserve a better Vet than this. After 8 yrs, and multiple issues, we decided to go elsewhere. She is selective on returning eMails or phone calls even after our dog was at Emergency Hospital. We have had several encounters with this Vet where she was not able to diagnose situations until we ourselves googled and asked for certain solutions. One of our dogs had been licking and creating sores on his belly. She gave him an allergy shot ($100) that didn't work, then we came back, she told us to put mousse on the area twice a day (another $100 exam and more money for mousse), it still wasn't getting any better, only worse. My wife googled and saw it looked like it was infected so reached out to see if it needed antibiotics. She said "oh yes, it's worse now, let's do that" (another $100 exam and cost of antibiotic). She likes to keep you coming back and she's guessing, all at you and your pets expense. This Vet hires another Vet to come in and do her surgeries once a week, she just wants to interact with clients..what Vet does that? She's marginal, at best. She puts on a laughing friendly front, but she is not sincere as we have come to see. Things also really declined after Covid. I think this gave her a chance to use that as an excuse to raise costs, less hours, and less quality of care. You can also Google her staffs comments regarding working for her (not favorable). She will tell you she goes above and beyond by selectively answering an email here and there after her 32 hours, and by throwing lots of pet tabs at your dogs. All veterinarians we've seen are available 40+ hours a week, and will see you after emergency care, and respond to you as soon as they are in the office (this Vet does not) There are many Vets around the area who are more competent and sincere. She also has complained she has to commute to Gilroy, who cares?? Do your due diligence...there are wonderful Vets out there that will care for your pets and treat them and you with respect. read more

After going to several other veterinary/animal clinics and hospitals (including a horrible experience with Dr. Campbell at Silicon Valley Pet Clinic), I am so thankful to have found Arroyo Animal Clinic. My pup has seen both Dr. Paul and Dr. Michelle and they have both been fantastic. At the appointments they always make sure to address any concerns I may have and are so informative about anything and everything regarding your pet. On top of that, they are two of the kindest and friendliest people you'll ever meet! This friendliness extends to their staff as well, especially the vet tech, John. The first time I took my pup here, they took a photo of her, and with each subsequent visit, the photo appears on these "report cards" they give you at the end of the appointment with a summary of what your pet came in for and the results, if any. Here is the scam that this Bay area vet is using. Here is how it goes: Client: How much is a tooth extraction for a small dog? I have 3 canine and 2 molars to extract. Dog is healthy. Had a full dental in 2021and hardly any teeth left. He was a rescue that presented with periodontal disease. He is healthy now. Vet: We need to see the dog first before we can quote you any prices. Client: Why? Don't you have a standard dental surgery base cost and per tooth cost for extraction? He has no teeth left except these bad ones. No need to clean his gums. Vet: We need to determine if he is healthy or not healthy. Client: Why? I'm not bringing him in for surgery yet. I only need a price quote. What does your fee structure have to do with his health? Vet: We need to know if he is healthy for the surgery. We need to see him before we quote any prices. Client: Are the prices dependent on his health status? Will the prices on teeth extractions fluctuate depending on whether this dog has good overall health or not? You can only tell how bad the teeth are once you have extracted them and surgery is in progress, so a price quote based on an office visit makes no sense. There are two options only: 1. Dog is healthy. You do the surgery. Teeth are extracted. Dog lives. 2. Dog is unhealthy. You don't do the surgery in case the dog dies on table. However, if you don't do the surgery, the dog will die of sepsis anyway, or organ failure from bacteria, but in a painful way. I can euthanize dog or he can die on table, or he can die of sepsis. Either way, he will die. So we might as well risk the surgery, no??? By the way, the dog is very healthy, eats home cooked meals of eggs, meat, veggies, fish, yoghurt, fish oil, supplements and walks over a mile daily and his legs are very muscular. He is a tank. Vet: Sorry, we cannot quote you any prices on the phone. Client: If I come in person can you quote me a fee structure in person? Vet: You have to pay for an office visit first! Cost is $81. Client: In order to know how much you charge me for a tooth extraction I have to pay you $81 first? Vet: Yes. Hangs up phone. Ok, I'm done with you Bay area vets. The only ones who quote me prices on the phone and are thereby honest and fair, are going to get my business, like Warm Springs Pet Hospital. The rest of you scammers are going to get some investigations from Vet Board, Federal Trade Commission, and Attorney General. Stay tuned too, for some investigative news articles on CNN, Youtube, and every possible news channel that will publish my story. I'm going to bust up this extortion racket you are all partaking in. The Mafia are more reasonable. This is a routine procedure for teeth extraction and how dare you try to shake down senior citizens for money like this and compromise my sick dog's health???!!!!! March 2021 - Patient for 1 year Arroyo Animal Clinic in Sunnyvale cannot be trusted. During Covid they are abusing thier services and not informing patients of the annual vaccines they are providing. Instead my dog was given the Bortella vaccine without my consent. They took the liberty to administer the shot and then charged me $33.00. And when I asked the office manager Erica- she impatiently listened to my concern and did not apologize, nor took did she take the initiative to not charge me for vaccine (that I did not approve). She was very rude, condescending, and started raising her voice and told me she is going to charge me the $33.00 because they already have given him the shot. She then blurted out if you don't like it to take my pet somewhere else. When I informed her what she was doing is so wrong and unethical, I will write a review about my experience - she replied with "I really don't care". Perhaps they are getting so much business due to people owning pets during the Covid19 pandemic thier service is clearly declining. Although Dr. Paul Umeda, the long-time owner of the practice has since retired, Dr. Michelle Gonsolin and Dr. Aisha Admani are both amazing and have never let us down with their care for our pets. And I've had a LOT of pets and been to a lot of vet clinics and hospitals when living in the East Bay/Berkeley and the Peninsula. Arroyo Animal Clinic has offered the best care, hands down. Their follow-ups are thorough. And their techs are great. They make you feel like family. And their rates are more than reasonable. read more

Thanks Yelp!! This place was perfect! I was able to make an appointment for my new cat the day before and my cat was seen by a nurse and then a vet for a general checkup and there were 2 other people that came in to clean his ears and apply a topical treatment. All of the staff were extremely friendly and compassionate towards my cat. And, the cost was $120 taxes included! There's a $65 fee for the visit which includes a consultation and full evaluation. Then, the topical treatment was $30 and the ear cleaning was $15. How affordable! read more

If I could give this place negative stars I would. I took my dog to this VET for an exam due to blood in his urine ad difficulties urinating period. I did a drop off as a walk in. He was there for a few hours. I never received a phone call or any updates. I just showed up to pick him up. One of the Vet assistance brought him out to me and had absolutely no info to provide me. They did not take Urine, they did not offer a solution, recommendations or nothing. They did not give me any info. I left with him still bleeding and no help at all after paying for the exam. The next day I called and asked to speak with the doctor since I had no resolution the night before and NEVER spoke or talked to her. The receptionist answered and took my message. I voiced my concern of taking my dog in and never speaking to or seeing the doctor. And told her I would like a refund if I was not going to get a call back. What did I pay for? Instead of an office manager calling me or the doctor. I received a text message from Erica "Manager" telling me they were sorry they couldn't help me but I was harassing the staff and using profanity. Like what? Excuse me? No I did not. I called once and left a message. NO ONE ever called back. I still did not get the exam report or any info on my dogs visit. The office manager should of called me back to find out what happened if I supposedly am harassing the staff and using profanity. Which DIDN'T happen. This place is unprofessional and a joke! DO NOT go here. I am looking into filing a formal complaint as now I have to take my dog elsewhere cause they took my money and never treated him. And send me these absurd text messages. Dr. Megan has to be the best veterinarian I have come across. I rescued 2 Yorkies and didn't know much about their past history except they may have been abused. Dr. Megan took her time to explain everything she saw and gave a thorough examination. I had plenty of questions and she explained them all in a kind demeanor. She found a severe infection and treated Eevee on the spot. She has a great staff. Brianna, Rubi, and Shaun were gentle and kind. Couldn't trust a better set of staff members than these guys. Brought our 2 month old puppy, Aila, here, & every single staff member that set eyes on her showed her extreme love & care. It made Aila & us feel so welcome. Incredibly thankful we brought her because they taught us new pup owners so much. Our intention for the first visit was for her first full set of vaccinations only, & arroyo went up & beyond! They checked her weight, teeth, ears, tummy, posture, asked us questions, discussed micro chips, & of course explained everything in great detail. We had records from the breeder, stating Aila received a few vaccinations already, but the previous vet didn't catch the tapeworm or ear mites she had, which could have not possibly within the 5 days we've had her. So sad this was first missed. This tells me the staff here sincerely cares about their clients & their objective isn't to get pets in & out like other vet clinics (although in & out isn't always a bad thing when talking about fast food). Aila is receiving treatment at arroyo, & we couldn't be happier. They have a great, cost effective puppy program that includes a plan for all vaccinations, etc. which proactively saves us around $100. Lots of street parking & parking in the back of the building. They are kind, compassionate, knowledgeable, and reasonable. They weigh pros and cons with us, help us understand what they are doing and why, and have been transparent about costs. A year and half ago, we decided to get a french bulldog puppy. Because of the inherent issues associated with bulldogs, my husband wants to find a vet who are experienced with flat faced dogs. Through yelping, he found Arroyo. Arroyo is a very far drive from where we live, usually takes 30 minutes on El Camino during traffic hours. But the drive is so worth it, because the staff and Dr. Michelle and Dr. Paul at Arroyo are truly great! Dr. Paul and Dr. Michelle always go into great length to address any of our concerns and to give very clear instructions. Before the puppy were sprayed, we were so concerned about the medical risk involved with the procedure, Dr. Paul actually called us and answered our questions, and emailed us articles to address our concern. My two "pups" have been patients at Arroyo Animal Clinic since they were 8 weeks old (they are 8 1/2 and 9 years old now). Dr. Michelle spends time to interact with them and is always thorough during their visits. The clinic staff are all professional and clearly love working with their patients. They are well-organized during Covid; we call when arriving for appointment, vet tech comes to car (mask and social distancing) to discuss concerns before escorting the pet into the clinic. Both of my dogs love the staff and are happy to go! Dr. Michelle calls to discuss the diagnosis and follow up before the pup returns to the car. Payment is collected over the phone. I am sure that the clinic staff have been overwhelmed with patients during the Covid crisis, but they have been so responsive, both by phone and through email. It is a relief to know that when my pups are ill or injured, we can feel comfortable that they are receiving the highest level of care. read more

Dr. Michelle is a highly qualified Veterinarian with many years of experience. She is one of the most caring and hard-working individuals I have ever met. I have known her since Dr. Paul owned the clinic. I have had her care for my 2 cats and my pure bread German Shepherd who I loved dearly. Unfortunately due to a bowel struction, she had to undergo major abdominal lifesaving surgery. Had it not been for Dr. Michelle, I would not have had a couple more active years with my beloved Sierra. Not only did she save her life by making herself available after hours to consult me about my dog, but years later, when it was time for Sierra to cross the rainbow bridge, Dr. Michelle walked me through the process and educated me about what to expect and guided my decision making. She also cared for my mother's Maltese in a very kind and sincere way. I would trust any animal of mine to Dr. Michelle. I highly recommend this clinic to care for your pet. I am very shocked by some of the negative reviews on Yelp and can easily read through the uneducated and inappropriate expectations of these customers. As a medical professional myself, I have found that pet owners sometimes have unrealistic expectations of a Veterinarian by way of forgetting that the doctors are human and in order to prevent burnout, medical professionals must protect themselves from these unrealistic expectations. It seems to me that after reading these negative reviews that these are pet owners want to pay as little as possible for high quality services. Clearly, they are not taking the process seriously enough and allowing a doctor to be a doctor and make the appropriate decisions. Medical professionals are not trained to do what they are told to do by patients or pet owners. We are taught to do what's ethically and medically appropriate given the situation. Human patients themselves, oftentimes, do not understand that. It is clear pet owners can be exactly the same way sometimes. Many people don't realize that a doctors and Nurses job is to educate and treat and it's the clients or the patient's job to either do what they recommend or not. It's up to them to follow instructions as recommended. And if they don't, then they have to live with the consequences. Rather than trying to control the system all because they don't want to pay for high quality care or due to a lack of understanding. It's unethical for healthcare providers to not follow a certain process of examination before invasive procedures just like with humans in the hospital or your own doctors setting. Belittling their knowledge after 8 to 10 years of Veterinarian medical school and over 10 years practicing, only reveals your own lack of knowledge. If a pet owner doesn't want to pay for quality care yet wants their pet to receive exactly that, they shouldn't be a pet owner. It is clients like those of the negative reviewers that make Nurses in the hospital and physicians and other employees in the medical field, including Veterinarians, want to quit. It's time to take a look at yourself and be accountable of how your own behavior contributes to a stressful situation. We all need to treat people how we want to be treated. If we don't, there won't be enough Nurses, Doctors or Veterinarians to care for our loved ones. We aren't your servants. read more

The docs and vet techs are all kind and want the best for our pets. Took our dog Watson here for neutering and from the first exam and the surgery, to his follow up appointments, Arroyo took care of us. This is painful for me to write as I'm still grieving the loss of my sweet, sweet kitty, Tamari. So if this is short, forgive me. I just know that people in our situation need this info, so I'm forcing myself to write this. :( I researched for quite a while before coming to the conclusion that my baby probably needed to go to a better place. We made an appointment for late in the afternoon to take her in so they could help us. The lovely vets here took SO much time with us, we never felt rushed. This was the first time my fiance OR I had ever had to make this decision and we were destroyed. My cat was my little sweetheart, we loved each other so much. About a week later, we received the nicest condolence card, signed by everyone in the office. It made both of us cry. read more
