First off, I love that there are separate entrances for cats and dogs -- as my cat is very shy and scared of loud noises like barking. I also love how the waiting area, despite being small, is never packed. At most, it's me and another person. It doesn't seem like they're rushing people in and out and they take their time with each pet. The staff at Los Altos Vet Clinic is always so friendly and welcoming and every doctor I've come across has been so caring and kind. I really get a sense that they love animals and care about their patients. I have gotten blood work multiple times for my cat, and every time, I get a call from the doctor themselves, on the test results. Dr. Gould and the whole team at Los Altos Veterinary Clinic are outstanding. From the moment you enter, they are so incredibly welcoming and friendly, you can tell they truly love animals. The office itself is incredibly clean, always smells good, and the interior design has a nice calming and comforting aesthetic. Dr. Gould has the best bedside manner of any vet I've ever met. She gets on the ground with dogs to be less intimidating and treats them as though they are her own. She really gives her full attention during appointments, making sure all questions are answered and all concerns are addressed addressed. When my other dog has been unable to see Dr. Gould, every other vet has been just as wonderful including Dr. Loveland and Dr. Bain. Once you're a client of theirs, I feel like they do everything in their power to make sure your pets needs are addressed and they are seen ASAP if an urgent matter arises. My fiancé and my pups were invited to attend their recent open house for their new remodel... and WOW. The modern technology, rooms, everything... it's just all so well thought out and executed. They have separate sections for the dogs and cats. At the open house, they offered Boba Tea, fun games/prizes, and allowed clients to tour the entire facility. It was really neat to see the "behind the scenes" area and to learn about strategies they use to keep animals calm when taken back for vaccinations and other procedures. I love the front office staff as well, they are always to sweet to my dogs and you can just tell they love your animals. They also partner with My Wonder Dog Positive Dog Training (dog trainer- Vicky Rusconi) to offer puppy classes and dog training at the clinic, they send out emails about availability. This has been life changing for me with my new puppy, we have learned SO much... and honestly I feel like it's very affordable, especially for the level and quality of information you get. I cannot recommend this clinic enough! for the 5 years I've had my cat, I've never received such genuine care and patience as well as expertise from the doctors and staff. SERIOUSLY short story - last year, there was something wrong with my cat's eye and I went to an emergency vet hospital where I paid $500 for them to say they weren't sure what the issue was and to give her eye drops. not to mention she had to sit in that hospital for hours on end probably anxious and afraid. I was able to book a vet appointment here a few days later and they find a PLANT was stuck behind her eye IMMEDIATELY. I was so so relived I could've cried honestly I've been to many veterinarians in throughout the bay, all of them fine but they also upsell you and provide general information without you feeling like they really care, especially if you have a cat vs a dog. at los altos vet clinic, Dr. Johnson, other doctors, and staff are so kind and lovely and most importantly they know what they're doing! Just a godsend. My precious puppy is just,, well...Im her mom I'll say it she's a brat. She is incredibly high strung and apparently,has a very rare form of lupus. I normally have large calm dogs, this is my first small(yappy nervous dog)because my dog is difficult and now not very well I had to leave my old vet. The Los altos vets are brilliant,organized, patient, wonderful people from front to back, desk to doc, they are just the best. My ridiculous difficult dog who likes no one ( she does not like to be petted) is relatively calm and well behaved for my vet here (miracle). On Monday, December 16, I brought my Siberian husky to Los Altos Vet Clinic for a check-up and to request a referral to UC Davis Veterinary Medicine. Despite being a client for nearly four years, I was told to wait outside in the rain due to a note claiming my dog was "not friendly with other dogs"--a claim I was never informed of before. This felt personal and tied to a previous incident where my dog was injured during a procedure at the clinic in June 2023. The vet admitted the injury was caused by their staff but failed to take responsibility or provide adequate follow-up care. Now, they refuse to give me the help my dog needs, leaving me feeling mistreated and unsupported. If you're looking for a reliable vet, I would not recommend this clinic. read more

My dog is not an easy patient. She's about 16 years old, and has issues with almost every part of her body at this point. I can't say enough good things about the warm and humane way LAVC cared for our 14 yo dog -- euthanized yesterday. They made such a difficult day tolerable. Dr. Johnson, who is usually a fast talker, seemed to have all the time in the world for us. Our dog was calm and comfortable from the initial sedation to his last breath. This place is def a 10/10. I have 2 of my babies go here for check ups and annual shots. The staff is so kind and friendly. Dr. Loveland was lovely, and was helpful. This was my first time having a kitty at 10 weeks and she answered all my questions and was very knowledgeable. They even gave us a kitty care package! I gotta say the office itself is very clean and decorated nicely. There's even a cat room for you to be inside with your babies so they're more comfortable. I was inaccurately accused of being aggressive when I called the technician out on her rude behavior to me. Throw in the fact that my cat's weight has dropped significantly, and I am unable to brush her due to her ageing and bones probably hurting therefore forming dreads. I followed Dr's recommendations and had her weighed in by an angry miserable person who just assumed I neglect my cat. When I asked her for recommendations, she just jumped to suggesting making an appointment and giving her meds even though she was well in health in June and the context I was asking was "what can I do for my 14 1/2 yr old cat to nurture and make her ageing more comfortable" - jumped to pushing products and no respect just a demand to make a full probably excessive costly appointment. Instead. Myself following Dr's orders resulted in discrimination regarding their perception of my "stress". Unbelievable. I even requested via email of PROOF of my supposed abusive behavior. I don't consider a staff that behaves rudely and calling it out as abusive. You guys, this was all over a cat nail trim. Sadly, think about how they act in more serious heartbreaking situations I can only imagine. We took our almost 11 year old dog in to see Dr. Bostrum. She interacted with our dog, listened very well to us, and did the necessary labs. The shot she gave our dog for itchy skin was effective the same day. Since the appointment our dog is running, not scratching, and her fur is growing back in. The veterinarians and entire staff at Los Altos Veterinary Clinic are "10 stars our of 5" for knowledge, kindness, compassion, communication, competence, and competitiveness. We have owned one or two dogs for our entire 55 years of marriage and have been very happy with three vets, all of whom retired; however, joining the clientele of this group has been even and "upgrade" to what we have experienced. While the vets are very impressive, all of the staff is knowledgeable and compassionate (and know how to communicate!!) We just "adopted a 12 year old Havanese from a friend who could not care for her any more and had neglected her. Dr. Neal and her team have been VERY helpful with my German shepherd puppy for the past year. Being a first time dog owner, we had no clue about what to do with an 8-weeks puppy. The clinic helped us go through all the procedures step by step. They have a complete package for young puppy that includes all necessary check ups and shots. The front desk people were very friendly and made everything convenient for us. Beyond that, Dr. Neal provided a lot of advice and tips. During the first couple of months, we emailed her several times for health issues and concerns about our puppy, and she replied the emails fast with professional advice. Later on, when my dog became more skittish, the care team and Dr. Neal showed tremendous patience and skill to complete every visit successfully. Again deflecting. No one else had access to my dog. I live alone. I gave him a bath the night before and took a picture of him. His tail was curled over his back and almost to his ankles. i dropped him off in the morning for surgery. When I picked him up and got him home I realized his fur had been cut by 2.5 inches. I have shown it to several people who know him and they all agree his tail fur was clipped. It is a very crooked cut. Again they do not take responsibility for their errors and deflect. read more

EDITED to respond to the business's comment below. The appointment slot was 9:15 am and we were 20 mins late. Not 35 mins. Please check your data. BE AWARE first time pet parents! For something as crucial and uncertain as Pet health, you can't go to a place that is this inflexible & unyielding. We had our pup's first vet check up. Our pup fell ill 1 day before and we were 20 mins late to the clinic for a 60 mins check up. They not only turned us back, inspite of knowing our little pup is not well, but also refused to refund the $125 fee - Penalising our pup for being unwell, having anxiety and arriving late. They could have used the remaining 40mins to check and get her treated. But no, their policy takes precedence over a pet's health. They desperately try to mask their inconsideration in the form 'policy and rules' Luckily, we found a vet who checked her on that very day. Turns out she had coccidia. Happy valley pet hospital in Campbell not only took her on priority because of her health but also did a thorough first exam. Glad all this happened before we committed to Los Altos vet clinic. When I reached out to them asking for my refund, they offered a free 'first' exam. When I shared that the first check-up has already completed they offered a wellness check-up. Guess what? It's the same as the first vet check up. Flexibility and considerations are 2 key aspects when looking for a family vet, and Los Altos vet clinic didn't have either of those. Pros: 1. Dr Glynn was personable & knowledgable, great bedside manner, builds confidence & rapport 2. Clinic manager was forthright and honest when she discovered it was unclear if a particular vaccine had already been given or not. Cons: 1. Will not fit you in if you're having a medical emergency. I was not able to get an appt here when we first adopted our puppy and he was ill. Also had to get first Parvo elsewhere. 2. Did not provide information of what to watch for one week post rattlesnake vaccine. My dog developed an abscess a week post injection. I mentioned the lump at the visit for the next shot, at that point I had no idea it was injection related (I figured it would have shown up right away.) The second injection was given. Again a lump appeared a week post injection. My dog also experienced a drastic change in personality for a short period. He was aggressive, growling, biting, etc. Finally I looked up the rattlesnake vaccine only to find that type of reaction occurs in about 5% of dogs with that vaccine. The second abscess burst & bled. I read in smaller dogs the vaccine should be given in 3 smaller doses not 2. When I mentioned that to the vet, he replied, "I don't know, we don't do them that often." Zero concern, two reactions. 3. Next, we went for a rabies vaccine. We were told the rabies and influenza would be given on that day. When we returned for the next series of shots they could not confirm whether the rabies shot had been given. They pulled the paper chart and told me there should be two stickers for each shot. The infuenza had two stickers, the rabies had one sticker. I was told, "We just don't know if he got it or not, so we will just give it again." 4. I took a slot for neuter surgery that was created by another cancellation. I asked if it was ok that we would be traveling the day following the surgery and was assured it was fine. I called the very next morning, after my dad pointed out a dog in a surgical collar cannot fit comfortably in a travel carrier, and was told I need to pay a cancellation fee. To bolster this request, I received an email stating the surgical rooms are booked weeks in advance. This just hours after I took the open slot for a procedure to take place in a few days. (Once again I go to the World Wide Web to see travel isn't recommended for two weeks post-op.) 5. Back to the rabies - I emailed the doctor to express perhaps a titer might be better than a potentially second rabies vaccine and express my dismay in how things had been handled. I expressed I hope to have my dog for 15 years or more and would like to feel more like seeing his vet-team would be more like a relationship (like healthcare). I received a reply asking me to go elsewhere. I really enjoyed meeting with Dr Glynn but as you will see from the emails, neither me nor my pet had any value there to him or his staff. UPDATE Regarding the reply below, I do not think it is a vet's job to make me happy. I DO think them caring about the well being of my pet IS their job. Again, I'm happy to forward any emails. It's absurd that this clinic manager suggests I email her when after I did (quite nicely I might add) her reply was that I should move on. Now I will be stuck paying for a titer and figuring out the vaccine and surgery elsewhere. Very very poor experience; I held on through a few disappointments, as you can see, because everyone here says they're great. A more appropriate reply, Joanne, would have been, "I'm sorry, this has been unfortunate, what do you think we should do from here?" So glad I found this place (thanks Yelp!) My shih tzu was having some kind of allergic reaction to his food, we tried changing it from beef to lamb but nothing helped. He was miserable, biting his tail and pulling out hair every chance he got. We had to put a cone on him when we left for work.. Unfortunately, my experience at this location was not positive. I was 15 minutes late to my 8am new client appointment due to unexpected traffic which was out of my control. They denied to see my dog due to their policy of considering more than 10 minutes late as a missed appointment. I had already rescheduled my appointment once (weeks in advance), so this "missed" appointment resulted in the loss of my $98 deposit. To reschedule, they required an additional $98 deposit. I understand the need for policies, but in this case, I feel that some flexibility could have been exercised. I am new to the area and wanted to establish my dog's care with them because of the good reviews, despite living a bit far way. My cat went in for dental work and needed two teeth pulled. :( He was having trouble after the anesthesia (just extremely lethargic), and Dr. Kari wouldn't let us take him home yet. She went back to the clinic later that night after dinner to check on him, and called us to pick him up after she verified that he was doing better. She actually took time out of HER night to make sure MY cat was OK. She could have easily just told us to take him to an overnight clinic for observation and been done with it, but you can tell that she really cares, both about the animals and their humans. Dr. Echerd is the best of the best. Met with him yesterday and the very first thing he told me was his email address in case I ever need to reach him. Met with my dog outside due to contagious symptoms. He was incredibly friendly and did everything to make my dog comfortable. He decided on a medication for my dog but when he came out he'd switched to a very similar and just as effective medication because it was slightly less expensive. Mind you I'm sitting in a brand new car; however, I appreciate the savings just as much as anyone else! I will always ask for Dr. Echerd. I called to ask for a general quote for a dog dental cleaning and shared a description of my dog. They refused to provide a general range and instead told me to pay a non-refundable deposit and come in for a screening, after which they would share the cost. Many clinics will be transparent and upfront about general costs for procedures, so when I received this messaging it felt like a money grab. She met me outside of the building before opening hours to assess and get my dog checked in right away (This made a huge impression on me). Nick Michael is a super positive first-point-of-contact Customer Service Rep. both in person and over the phone. I have not yet met Dr. Glynn Echerd, but I know that he has done a tremendous job in building and overseeing the Los Altos Veterinary Clinic, and bringing this group of individuals together.
