My friends and I have been visiting Fire Island for more than 20 years, and throughout that time, Cherry's on the Bay has been one of our favorite destinations. We have enjoyed many memorable meals and drinks there over the years, which makes it disappointing to see the decline in the overall experience. Over the past few years, the quality of customer service, food, and beverages has noticeably decreased. During our recent visit, we found that several popular menu items we had enjoyed in the past had been removed and replaced with options that were less appealing. We ordered Mudslides, a drink that had previously been one of the highlights of our visits. Unfortunately, the drinks consisted mostly of ice and lacked both flavor and sufficient alcohol. After bringing this to our server's attention, the drinks were taken back and adjusted, but the only noticeable change was additional chocolate. The drinks were still not enjoyable. We raised our concerns a second time and were surprised that the beverages remained on our bill despite our dissatisfaction. In addition, the wait time for our food exceeded an hour. We only learned that the kitchen was short-staffed after overhearing another table inquire about their delayed order. Better communication from staff regarding significant delays would have been appreciated. As loyal patrons, we genuinely want to see Cherry's on the Bay succeed and thrive. However, improvements are needed in both food quality and customer service. If menu prices remain high, the quality should reflect that value. Longstanding, popular menu items should be carefully considered before being removed, especially when replacements do not meet guest expectations. We love Fire Island and Cherry Grove and hope to see Cherry's on the Bay return to the level of excellence that made it a favorite destination for so many years. read more

Watery $14.00 Dixie cup bar mix drinks and we were asked to leave our table because "reserved seating for the show" was going to take place. This was Sunday night when - everyone is LEAVING. No show . Nothing. WTF? I got the feeling they wanted us GONE because we did not order the $21.00 chicken fingers. Unfriendly pissed off bartenders. P.S. Cherry Grove and Fire Island is ONLY GOOD FOR GOING IN GROUPS. Do not come here "single and ready to mingle" . Not gonna happen. This place is VERY basic ; drag queen shows with a lotta small dick jokes. The place is BEAUTIFUL but BORING (boring generic gay people). Sad. But the boat ride is GREAT! P.S. Cherry's is the place to be if you are feeling a little naughty in Cherry Grove at night. This place has a big bar area and cranks out the music along with exotic dancers. I did not try the food but the drinks were fine, fairly standard for a dance bar. Festive is how I would describe the place. Service was friendly. read more

This is my favorite place to eat and see a show on Fire Island. The staff and entertainment are super friendly, attentive, and talented, the drinks are unique and tasty, and the food is reasonable priced and very good. My favorite is the Twink Burger, Pretzels, Bang Bang Shrimp, and Mozzarella Stuffed Squash. It's not a trip to Fire Island without a stop here. Check the board at the front for show dates and times or their well designed website for information. There is such a sense of community here, like all are welcome, and accepted. It's never a dull moment at Cherry's and that's why it will always be a staple of Fire Island. read more

One of the highlights in the Cherry Grove neighborhoods. It's right off the dock where the water taxis and ferries drop people off so it's hard to miss. They have simple bar food, but are known for their frozen drinks. Definitely try out the CH-CH-CHHERRY BOMB! I really enjoyed their Bloody Mary too. They have a Wasabi Sesame rim which is unique and really good! Not too spicy either, but enough of a kick to light that fire. They have drag shows on the weekends too! We came on Sunday and got to catch a show. Note: there is a minimum spend to sit at the bar during this time, but standing is free. read more

Such a fun place to check out on Fire Island. The drinks are supper yummy, staff is friendly, and the performances are over the top. We just grabbed drinks at the bar as walk ins and stayed for about 2 hours watching the drag shows, and let me tell you, they did not disappoint. Many of the low ratings talked about service but they must have changed bartenders because we had great service and a wonderful time! Granted, we did not eat but we came during drag brunch and the hostess was very accommodating and the bartenders were nice. The drag queens are AMAZING and definitely know how to put on a show! For a good time on a Saturday night in Cherry Grove, this is definitively the place to be. Basically what you have is a beach dive bar with an amazing drag queen show that is loads of fun. I did not have food here but we did have a few drinks which weren't that strong and standard NY $15 a drink. The bartenders were okay. By the way, this is a cash bar, so probably best to bring your own cash or use the ATM in the back. read more

Restauraunt was spacious, and had alot of seating by the water/ferry dock .Server/bartender had a bubbly and friendly personality, but tried to rush us out and did not give a reason why. Drinks (rocket fuel) were really good and pretty strong . My ceaser salad appetizer was great. My burrito bowl was also good, albeit very expensive for the portion size. Had a fun experience and would try once if you can make it to one of the drag shows. Due to prices being too high i would not make it a regular occurance. read more

I was so excited going into this weekend and going to Cherrys for the first time for my friends birthday! As my group waiting for our show time we sat outside of their upstairs bar and ordered a few drinks staff upstairs were kind, helpful and knowledgeable. They also let one of our friends watch the show from the balcony because she was overheating. We arrived to the downstairs area of Cherrys at 12 and were sat immediately under the tent. Our server came and checked on us right away but we needed more time. When he came back a few minutes later we placed our orders early since we had food allergies at our table and the place was still dead at the time and requested water since it was very hot under the tent. Our server Piter stated they do not do cups of water and instead only offer bottled water for $5 which seemed pretty steep. My friend went upstairs and checked with the staff that we were just with and they stated that Cherrys does do cups of water so my friend reproached Piter and told him that she was told they do offer water. He stated that during shows they do not offer cups of water however the hostess told him to "just give her a cup of water". After more than 20 minutes of him being gone she followed up at the bar since we were unsure if we were getting water at all and if we were getting a single cup or water for the table. Upon arriving back he proceeded to give her, the girl whose birthday we were celebrating, and our table a lecture on patience. She told him it was not a matter of us having to wait for the water, It was the fact that we did not know if we were getting it at all for the table which he doubled down on saying we needed to be patient(we later realized that he probably felt comfortable lecturing us since Cherrys has a guaranteed 20% gratuity added to your bill automatically). There was also a good amount of time before the show in which we presumed he was talking about our table to his coworkers because they kept talking and staring daggers at our table on multiple occasions. After this we felt really uncomfortable. He later approached my end of the table and asked us why "our energy was so low", probably because you gave us an entire lecture and received dagger stares from your coworkers all before the show even began. Additionally, after this entire ordeal, all of the tables around us received cups of water from their servers with seemingly no issue. It really seems like every other table had a great time at Cherrys this weekend except ours. The queens were magnificent so it's really unfortunate that I won't be returning here. The reason I'm writing this is because this was such a small issue with an easy solution but it somehow got so big that it ultimately ruined my friends birthday celebration and left all of with a bad taste in our mouths. I know every drag establishment is different but Piter really didn't do anything to help celebrate my friends birthday either. We noticed other servers really hyping up their tables, doing shots with their tables, and celebratory acts of this nature but Piter really demonstrated no interest in our table after we asked for water. Instead he was sat watching the show for the last quarter of it and only came back when it was time to pay. From what i saw though, all of the other servers were great and high energy so maybe you'll have a better experience here than we did! read more

We were having a great time on a rainy day today spending a lot of money and out of the blue the manager (woman) suddenly ripped away our drinks and told us we were kicked out. I want every business on fire island to succeed. So it is with that hope I leave a less than stellar review here, in hopes that someone from the business cares. Jackie, the manager, is entirely rude and unfriendly, and the rest of the host staff is as well. The drag acts are amazing. The drinks are what they are. The food is mostly inedible, but that's hardly the point. There is misinformation that they accept credit cards. They do NOT take Amex, and during the day, unless you eat food, they won't take credit cards at all. This is not upfront, and they are entirely unfriendly about it .... To make that all worse, their ATM fee is $5. Again, I want every business on fire island to succeed. But I also know that the real estate on the island is rare, and the time has come for this business to know that there are people who could actually turn an amazing space into an equally amazing business, where rudeness and pettiness isn't the business plan.... It is entirely incongruent with the rest of Cherry Grove and does us all a disservice. I hope very sincerely that Jackie and her staff will step it up and be much more welcoming and honest and less gouging and rude and dismissive. It's easier in the long run to be nice. Sooo much fun! I had a great time on Sunday with my girls! If you want to have good food and yummy drinks and absolutely great service cherries is the place to go. The place is located in fire island and has a fun beach dive bar vibe. Great location right next to the ferries. The place has lots of seating and I saw they allowed pets which is really cool. I would say families can eat their but probably best to avoid the show since it gets more adult like. The food and drinks were a great and at a fair price. Our server was absolutely the best. Very charismatic and sociable and he was so attentive. He recommended the chicken sliders with their honey mustard sauce which was AMAZING!! If you have tried it definitely take the chance. So worth it. The fries were just as good and everyone else enjoyed their meal too. I believe my servers name was Tim. I could be wrong (bad with names) but if I'm right Tim you were the bomb.com. The show was the best part!! They had a drag queen show and were super cool and funny. I was entertained the whole time. I literally did not want to leave bad sadly had too. My favorite place in CG! Everyone is welcome here - the DJ is always great, and this is the place to go for dancing (maybe even on the stage). One thing that annoys me is the teeny tiny restrooms. The line can get out of hand for that - and it also tends to get super hot back there in the summer (no AC). Also, typically they do not charge a cover, but this past holiday weekend when I went they were charging $10 a person. It was annoying, but worth it of course. It's right by the ferry dock and cash only. There's usually a few bartenders on so drinks are served up pretty quickly. Definitely worth a visit! read more

Alright yelp, give this place a break because the food here is in fact delicious! I was a bit hesitant to come because of all the mixed (bad) reviews but someone staying at the house I was at said they really enjoyed it so I came here with my girlfriend that night and loved it! We ordered the brussel sprouts as appetizers and they were perfect. I really loved that the cheese came in tender little chunks, rather than a sprinkle on top. We also ordered the mussels as appetizers and they were packed with flavor and a generous amount. For my entree I ordered the salmon and loved the fresh vegetables it came with. Thoroughly impressed with this meal. However, we should've quit while we were ahead because we weren't as impressed with dessert. My girlfriends coconut cake came burnt, you could see the burnt edges on it. My chocolate lava cake didn't have enough of the "lava" in it, it was more of just a chocolate cake which was decent but not what I was hoping for. However, I would 100% recommend. HOWEVER the owner is such a nasty human being that I'd be perfectly happy to never give another dollar to hang out at this bar ever again. Especially when the dock is directly next to the bar and you could have just as good of a time hearing the music from there. This woman came over to me, absolutely nothing on her identifying that she was employed at or owned the bar, and started reaming me out for "blocking the reserved table view". My back was against a tent pole and the woman she referred to sitting at the table next to me said I wasn't blocking her view at all and I was ok (ps the table was also empty for the majority of the show). The owner continued to threaten me and say she was going to call security and I said that's perfectly fine you can call them I'd be happy to talk to them because the only person here who has a problem is you. She came off like some random belligerently drunk woman looking for a problem so I was calm the whole time and brushed it off. She called 911 and I was eventually asked to have a chat outside with the police. The police officer couldn't have been nicer and let's just say that it's clear this woman has a reputation. If this story sounds unbelievable to you, believe me, it WAS unbelievable. Thank God for Cherry's. I'm working in Fire Island this summer at The Pines. In order to hang in the Pines you have to be rich, gay, male and buff. I am only one of these things, and I think you have to be at least 2 or more, so I don't have as good a time at the Sip N' Twirl as everyone else. So I walk with my fellow cooks through the Meat Rack to Cherry Grove which is just as gay but funkier and there's more nightlife. Cherry's is right on the water and there's a dance floor section (a requirement for any gay establishment on the island) with a bumping sound system and a square bar that everyone sits around. It's filled with drunk old queens, young cute gays, lesbians, and a random assortment of other people. I saw three women in two hours here, which is more than I saw the whole week at The Pines. Tony, my poor single straight coworker, who is working and living at The Pines the entire summer, was fairly frothing at the mouth at the sight of an overweight 50-year-old dancing all by her lonesome drunk self. Everyone is pretty friendly. Some are super duper friendly and decide to make out with each other or go have sex somewhere. Some are too friendly and have trouble taking no for an answer. So we order our Rocket Fuels and an old drunk dude sidles up to Tony and is all over him. Eventually poor bewildered Tony asks him politely to leave him alone. Drunk dude throws a drink at us and misses by about one hundred miles. The bartender kicks him and his friend out by taking the soda gun and shooting him, from behind the bar, with soda water. Some of the water splashed onto my chicken tenders, but I didn't mind. I was pretty full by then anyway. read more

Cherry's is annoying and loud, but it's perhaps the most consistently popular place in Cherry Grove. I wish I liked it more. And by "more," I mean, "at all." The disco starts around 4 p.m. daily. I like me some disco, but unfortunately, it sounds like the same CD over and over again. Until the karaoke begins on Friday nights... Oy. The crowd is typical Cherry Grove (no "Pines Boys" here!) and the bar service is rather slow. There is table service when it gets busy. The bayside setting is the only reason to go, in my opinion. The spacious, sturdy deck is an awesome place to watch the sunset (it's simply gorgeous) and raise your glass to the poor folks queued up to leave the island on the adjacent ferry dock. This place is GRIMEYY!! Yikes!! Came with 2 of my friends today to grab drinks while we were waiting for our ferry. Uncle Johnny ended up serving us. He was funny and ik that everyone loves him from Z100...but not the best bar tender.... He called out to the waitress to grab a menu for us. There were 2 piles of "sanitized" and "unsanitized" menus and she happily grabbed one from the unsanitized pile lol. When we ordered drinks, Uncle Johnny asked us what we were going to eat and we just randomly chose the wings. The 3 of us being doctors were horrified watching him prepare drinks- he was using his bare hands to fill the blenders/cups with ice and put all the toppings. He did this with everyone else's drinks as well, intermittently taking money from people and wiping things down with no effort to wash his hands. I should mention the bar was filled with flies as well- he even made a comment about it to us. Right after serving us the drinks he calculated everything and asked us to give him money up front. Super expensive- 3 margs and 8 wings for $61!! We didn't realize it was cash only (our fault) so we tried looking through our wallets to pull together cash. He waited until we gave him something. We had just enough to cover , with $2 left over tip. I was planning on taking more cash out from the ATM to tip him more after the food. We decided not to, after waiting 45 minutes for wings that were obviously warmed up in a microwave. Steaming hot when we tried to pick it up. The random fries in between were a nice touch too? Anyways as nice as the drag show was, we left feeling very uncomfortable about our experience. Would not return. read more

I'm in LOVE with this bar! Granted, I also visited on my first trip to Fire Island and I'm head over heels with the whole experience. Loved the ferry, loved the beach, loved how gay everything was. I ended up making the trek (and yes, Brooklynites it is a TREK) because I was familiar with DJ RiMiX who was spinning that evening and have never been steered wrong when following her around. You could hear her set before the ferry docked and the sweet sexy dance tunes easily helped us find our way into the dim, red-lit Cherry's. The huge square bar takes up the most space. It's run by just 2-3 folks, so getting a drink can require a little patience but my margaritas were a strong and tasty reward. After that, on to the dance floor and stage where hordes of scantily-clad gay beach folk were continuing their daylong party. The tunes were a mix of 90's dance classics (think Whitney Houston and Deborah Cox), current Top 40 pop tunes, and some fresh off the A-list hip hop. One of my fave features of Cherry's was the one-stop-shop-ness of it. Tired of dancing (as if you could tear yourself away!)? It's on a DOCK right on the water! You can cool your dancin' heels actually IN the water, or on one of several picnic table spots along the line of Yachts. Hungry from boozing? There's a restaurant attached with nothing too gourmet (that I noticed, anyway), but a wealth of fried bites perfect for soaking up your alcohol. Again, I'm in love. Swoon. read more
