I ordered the Tofu Vermicelli Bowl and he ordered the Chorizo and Potato Tacos. My husband has had over a 1000 tacos in his life and he's never had such a combination before. He loved it. I was pleasantly surprised with my Tofu Vermicelli Bowl. Restaurants have a habit of screwing up vegetarian dishes, but this one was outstanding. The service was also very friendly and efficient. The price point was high for what we received. It would have been nice if the Tacos came with a side a the mid $20s range for the 2 tacos. read more

Had dinner here last week. The food was okay, nothing special. The endive salad was delicious, but swordfish and tuna entrées were overly salted. Our server was friendly, professional, and prompt. Ambiance is good with a nice view of the ocean. Main complaint is that the hostess was a bit off. She wears sunglasses indoors in the evening. After greeting her with a "hello", she just flatly responds "reservation?". After responding "yes", without another word from her she just walks us to our table. Living in NYC, we're used to a bit more civility. Not many dining options on Fire Island, so obviously we have to take their establishments as is. read more

Stopped by Sand Castle around 4pm for drinks & oysters. The view was beautiful, the hostess was delightful, the waiter was super nice, the beer was cold, but the oysters were the worst I've ever had - anywhere! Out of a dozen for $40, only one was decent. Eleven oysters actually looked like they had already been eaten because they looked like just the muscle was left in the shell. There was no evidence of a plump oyster. Seriously, the shucker should have tossed out all the oysters upon seeing them opened! So disappointing! read more

First off staff are super nice. Been here a few times and it's always hit or miss which leads me to probably rethink going anymore. Went for lunch , my friend ordered the lobster roll, 2nd time for him and loved it. We started with the jumbo wings , $24 for 5 SMALL wings , not sure what was jumbo about them other than the outrageous price? I had the Tai salad , $34 with peanut dressing. Salad was watery , dressing as well seemed very watered down. Understanding how they nickel and dime you here they gave me extra dressing ($1.00 really?? ) which didn't help. The chicken tasted like it came from a can. Avoid the protein bowls unless you're not hungry and stick to what they are known for. Waiter super friendly. Do better. read more

Promptly service, excellent selection and perfectly portioned plates. Didn't have to lug any take out boxes to the sand or the ferry. Quality, presentation, atmosphere, service were all 5 star! The Executive Chef, Noelle Grant, is iconic. Anthony, Management/Owner, created an environment that you want to be around! We had a private event and every dish from start to end was cooked perfectly. The flavors of each dish were food art with each bite. I will remember this experience for a lifetime. The staff amazing. We all know how hard it is to find people that are good and care to work.... They have have found an entire staff that are excellent with smiles that light up a room. I was amazed how the bar tender was super attentive, quick and the quality of each drink was perfection! I highly recommend a trip to Fire Cherry Grove just for a meal at the Sand Castle!! read more

SOO delicious! My girlfriend got the sesame crusted salmon and I got the octopus and it was genuinely one of the most savory meals I've ever had. Our server was really nice too and the view was incredible. The price is pretty high, but it was expected. read more

I love this spot! This place has been around for a while and def has gotten progressively better! I probably will come in here almost every time I'm on cherry grove, at least for a drink and app quick before I head home. Their arancini and Brussels sprouts were perfect apps for me n my peeps to share... I popped in yesterday right off a nice afternoon of chillin on the beach and had a full dinner, we loved it. Picks were: Shrimp cocktail Crab and corn chowder Filet mignon Sea bass Apple crumb tart Choc. Choc. Chip cookie sandwich w choc ice cream 2 coffees and 2 aperol spritz's $205, and honestly we loved everything .. Had a great time with great views, highly recommend reservation if coming on a weekend and you want to catch the sunset. Big shout out to Travis, the bartender that we literally scream his name on the top of our lungs every time we see him (... and he's a good sport about it)... lol. read more

Sand Castle really took the idea of a "warm" welcome to heart: the place was 90 degrees indoors (even as the night outside got cooler) and the dew-point inside the restaurant was worthy of its own geo-location on the weather app. So feel free to cancel your next hot yoga class and get ready for a good sweat at the Sand Castle. Add to this wet mix an endlessly flickering overhead light for a very expensive fever dream -- or nightmare. Prices high enough to match the thermometer, but quality nowhere to be found. Food took over an hour to arrive. A soggy chicken Milanese had to be returned to the hell it came from. The host had an unbecoming sass, most likely caused by long-term exposure to heat. We just had one of the best nights so far this summer and it was all due to our bartender PJ who recommended dinner since tonight was the first night of their summer menu! I had the mussels which are fantastic every year and this year was no exception, meaty and delicious! My husband, however, had the sole and we both agreed, this was hands down the best sole we have ever had! The lemony buttery sauce was light and didn't over power the fish and the capers, really just perfect!! But wait, you have to try the desert!! I don't happen to like carrot cake and I almost stole my husbands entire desert, it was that good! We had an amazing night for our anniversary, good people, great food and we even got to meet the chef! Kudos!! read more

Fantastic option when in Cherry Grove. Make a Resy during sunset for a lovely atmosphere. Food (steak, fish and Dan Dan) and drinks are always solid and the vibe is more upscale for dinner than the daytime frozen drink crowd. It's not cheap, but it's not easy to get all the menu items to the island so you have to take that into account. We're definitely in for one dinner here each time we visit. read more

The first restaurant we came crossed coming from the beach. It was raining when we walked in. It seemed that almost everybody used the place as an option to take a break from water and had dining for the meantime. We were given the chance to be seated in the area with water view . Being said that the place was packed , it was not the best seat... still enjoyed the partial view. Ambiance is cool , calm and relax. Our waiter was the sweetest of all. Our order was delivered less than expected time. We tried their lobster in a roll and was surprised when I see that it was served in a croissant, amazingly delicious, a different taste to my buds.The vegan pasta was good. Enjoyed their Fire Island special cocktail , geez that was strong and their spritz was beyond my expectations . Pricing is a bit more than standards but hey , dining in Cherry Grove is what matters. read more

Hot dang did I have a feast with Sparta here! We sat for a 7:30 reservation, on the outdoor covered patio that abuts the boardwalk and beach. We were not directly by the sand but still had a perfect ocean view. The staff here is just plain FABULOUS. All of them! Legit! I think I spoke to almost every one of them and they were all working so hard, yet had smiles on their faces too. Onto the food.. we devoured 9 dishes. Yes 9. No guilt. NO cares. -Crab stack, burrata, wedge salad for starters. we also split everything - mussels and steamers - followed by scallops w risotto, pork chop w polenta and shaved brussel sprouts Everything minus the steamers was DIVINE!!!!! Even the steamers smelled and looked tasty but the prep work of eating a whole piss clam grossed me out, and then it got to Sparta too. One of the more expensive items and we didn't touch 3/5 of it. Oh well Overall, not a cheap meal but hey, when on Fire, go to Hades and do it up. Would absolutely return and in fact, I plan on it!! (PS. im on my lunch break :| ) read more

When there's only a handful of dining options on Fire Island, they can get slammed during peak times. We came in for a late lunch just before the restaurant got super packed. They were friendly and willing to accommodate our larger party by putting some tables together. My fish and chips were surprisingly good. The Fire Island special cocktail was strong and delicious - get it! Seemed a bit disorganized, but I realize they're doing the best they can with the wait staff they have. My glass of water had lipstick on it (and it wasn't mine) - I let our waiter know, he apologized, brought me a clean glass of water and apologized again - that's how the pros handle it and that's what I call good customer service. Minor complaint about only having two unisex bathrooms, not enough for the restaurant. read more

It was a lovely day of walking the beaches of Fire Island and then a boat taxi to Cherry Grove. We ended up at SCOTO and had a lovely meal. Muscles were great, the clam chowder was nice and I also enjoyed the halibut. The service was quick and the views out onto the ocean were comforting. Ate here on a quiet Friday night early in the season. Service was friendly and helpful (thanks Andrew!) and the food was delicious. We had the gochujong broccoli as an appetizer and the halibut and penne ala vodka. Everything was yummy. Would not hesitate to recommend or return. Once again, I find myself having given a Fire Island business WAY too many chances to prove that being horrible was an aberration ... But I'm now unashamed to post that this is a HORRIBLE restaurant and that Cherry Grove, and the people of Fire Island, deserve so much better. 1. First of all - it is FREE to tell your staff to be courteous. It costs nothing whatsoever for them to be competent, remember things the customer has asked for, and be polite (at the very least). The waitstaff here is horrendously bad and unfriendly. The host is clueless and acts as if it's a big inconvenience that people came in the door. This must ALL come from management, because it is uniformly bad. (More below, on the waitress' reaction to me stating the truth about the food). 2. It is high time Fire Islanders REFUSE to continue to accept paying exorbitant prices for things that taste (and look) like a TV dinner that got over-microwaved. I ordered a "California roll" ($25) to start - it came vaguely warm and with the border between the crab and the cucumber seeping into the other with a creepy brownish something. So I moved a piece of it and said they could clear it, and that it wasn't good. They served my entree before the waitress even bothered to come to check on how my California roll was..... So when I told her the appetizer wasn't good, it was also in tandem with asking politely for pepper for my entree - she took her time, and came back and literally THREW two pepper mills on the table, one of which was salt but unlabeled. For my entree, I had ordered the filet mignon, and it was a very poor cut with NO seasoning or anything in the way of flavor, and was served with pathetic potatoes and two strips of microwaved mushrooms. It was, frankly, disgusting ... but I was quite hungry, especially for having an appetizer that looked dangerous to eat. I rarely feel ANGRY at a restaurant but I was charged $70 for a badly microwaved piece of steak that they dare to call a filet mignon, and some instant potatoes. (I also ordered a second drink, and they brought an entirely different drink, and I could not summon the energy to return it after the rude reaction before, so I paid for a second drink I did not have more than a sip of). It has really become offensive how the business owners on Fire Island disrespect their customers to this extent. (It should be made clear that the ONLY reason I came to this restaurant was because the far superior Top of the Bay is closed on Monday and Tuesday). Even the Pines Bistro has better food than this place (and that's saying A LOT.... And they are also not open on Tuesday). The manager (I think), Anthony, is rude and arrogant. While I've tried to discuss suggestions and constructive comments with him at times, since I own a house here on fire island and would like there to be a reliable restaurant, he has ignored and/or dismissed most of it. To top this all off, after charging $70 for Swanson TV dinner steak, and being subjected to what amounts to abuse from the staff, they don't take Amex. Which is always a sign of a restaurant that is CHEAP and doesn't care about its customers whatsoever. At these prices, haggling about what type of credit card, so you can save a few cents in fees, is really the last straw. Every summer, people want to know - "is sand castle good or bad this year?" Last year it was passable for lunch, terrible for dinner. This year, it's horrendous all around. They are also constantly mysteriously "out of" things on the menu .... (Also they charge $14 for a small bottle of Pellegrino!!!!) EVERY table around me had complaints about the quality of the food and the service, even if they were not expressed to the server but to each other at the table..... I personally don't understand how someone who is paid to make food at a restaurant charging these prices is able to sleep at night after sending such dreadful food out, nor how the management is fine with their restaurant being run this way. I was tempted to just go get a slice at the pizza place. But, eventually - there WILL be a great restaurant and Fire Islanders will be ready to go there and abandon this nonsense. read more

Food was great, and the service was good. But they charged for bread. We dropped almost $100 per person on dinner, and still charged us $2 per diner for ONE piece of bread apiece. When I brought this concern to the attention of the manager on our way out of the restaurant, Anthony (who later this evening I found out is a co-owner), he was self-righteous about charging his customers separately to have bread be put on the table as part of the meal. Talk about nickel and diming their customers, but more than that his attitude about hearing a genuine concern from a regular customer. I won't be going back anytime soon. read more

A beachy lunch with my friend Tony uncovered some surprisingly friendly service, generous portions of sweet potato fries, strong drinks, and some good food! While I miss Jumpin' Jack's, the update on food and service seems to have worked here. It's disappointing to see the bad experiences that the other reviewers have had, because I think this place does really well for a beach resort restaurant and is - dare I say it - perhaps the best place to eat in Cherry Grove. Get a seat on the patio if you can and flirt with the boys (or girls) who walk by on their way to/from the beach. The outdoor bar seats are fun, too, but it would be far too easy, probably, to simply sit there, drink the day away, and get a nasty, nasty sunburn on your neck and back (cuz you sit with your back to the sun). I tend to shy away from that (both - drinking the day away, and getting nasty sunburns). read more

Came here one day for lunch and sat outside with a FANTASTIC view of the ocean, if you're someone like me who loves seeing the beach while you enjoy your meal, this place is perfect. Service from the moment we stepped in the doors was great. Every employee we encountered was so friendly and helpful. Food was also fresh, I had the seafood salad that had lobster salad, grilled shrimp, and a bunch of extra healthy stuff. Only gripe is about the price, I know it would seem like one should not pig out while in Cherry Grove, but considering the prices I would've loved slightly bigger portion sizes... Overall, still definitely recommend checking out this restaurant for excellent food and drinks! read more

Great views, great service and amazing drinks. We came here for lunch and most definitely enjoyed the views. They are right on the beach and accommodate to large parties. The service was amazing and they were very attentive, I ordered the fish tacos with a rum drink. The drink was strong and the tacos were subpar. I think the tacos were around $16-18 and let's just say it was two pieces of fish on a tortilla, there was barely any effort put into them and they lacked a lot of flavor. Food wise this isn't a great gem, I would come back for the views and drinks but that's about it. read more
