Came here to see Hedda Lettuce perform with some friends and my mom, really fun night out! First of all, Cherry's has to be the most beautiful and clean establishment in all of Fire Island. I love the red lights everywhere and the decor is amazing! My group sat in chairs in the front of the stage while I waited at the bar to order rocket fuels. I really have to gripe about the bartenders. I feel quite comfortable saying that we were intentionally ignored. The bartenders made eye contact with me several times and continuously ignored me to serve customers who walked up well after me. I was ignored for so long that I couldn't order rocket fuels because the performance was starting and the blender can't be in operation during the show. When I finally was given attention I just ordered vodka and cranberries which were OK. I'm not sure of the cause for such blatant rudeness. I didn't say a word at the bar, just stood there waving my hand when I made eye contact. The four stars in largely because of the entertainment! We LOVED Hedda Lettuce! Was she raunchy? Yes! Was she incredibly explicit in a way that left us speechless and blushing? Yes! Did we love the show? YES. If you are easily or mildly offended, this is not the show for you. The comic goes around the audience and insults people after asking questions to the target, but it's all in good fun! Being in the front row, we definitely got roasted the most. However, the comic also danced, sang, lip sang, and told jokes. I don't think I ever stopped laughing throughout the entire performance. My sides literally hurt. Definitely a memorable experience that I will treasure forever! I'm upset we had to leave early because our water taxi arrived to take us to OBP, but it was a great time. I'd love to come back here again for the entertainment! read more

Cherry's On the Bay - Hedda Lettuce! Hysterical performance!!! - Gay Bars Near Me - Cherry Grove, New York

Out of the few choices you have of places to go in Cherry Grove, this is the best one. The crowd here is always fantastic! The music and entertainment is always pumping. This ALMOST makes up for how weak the drinks are. I had 4 frozen cosmos at $12 each and barely got a buzz. You'd expect there to be more alcohol content when you pay prices like that. Ironically, there is so much sugar in them, you end up feeling like crap the next day anyway. Stick to bottled beer at $6 a pop. read more

The food here is excellent. However, their $20 minimum surcharge is not only a violation of their credit card agreement as a merchant, but is also illegal. If they try to tell you that you need to use a credit card for a purchase over $10, but under $20, let them know that this is in violation of the Dodd-Frank Act. Like I said, the food here is excellent, but the fact that I had to add money to my bill in order to pay for an $18 meal with a credit card is absurd. read more

Came here for Labor Day weekend and I can't complain. I had a pretty good time. It got pretty crowded (no one went outside because it was down-pouring at the time) and it was a little muggy and damp inside but hey, there was no cover and the crowd was generally friendly. The only con about this place is that 95% of their music is house/techno. If you like to dance to those kinds of songs continually and it will not bore you then you'll be fine. I was just getting bored because there were little to no changes in the rhythms of the songs. They might have played about 2 or 3 songs that weren't house/techno while I was there for 3 hours. We tried to request some songs but they were ignored. Whatever. This was my second time here and it's been packed both times with a decent crowd. I was with friends who always make it a good time so the music didn't ruin my night as much. Drinks could be compared to NYC bar prices ($9 pineapple vodka) but at least they give them in decent sized cups. I would definitely go here again to chill out and enjoy the vibes but if I wanted to go out and dance the night away, I probably would try to find somewhere else with a better variety of music. Cherry's is the closest restaurant to the ferry, so you're naturally attracted to its red banners and convenience. The food is typical bar food but, as most things on vacation island, expensive. The food is decent - salty tuna melt, though. The drinks are expensive and you're not getting much for what you pay. They tend to be out of purée for drinks so that limits your choices. The menu states that there is a lunch special (Mon-Sat, excluding holidays and weekends). Yes, I know Sat. is a weekend. What they also don't tell you is that Friday is NOT included. Cash only at the bar - to avoid paying taxes, I assume. At the end of our experience, the waiter claims that the restaurant can not do any cash-credit combinations. Oh, and they don't take Amex or Discover. Oh, Oh, and that he couldn't do more than two credit cards for our large party. This is clearly illegal and one of my biggest pet peeves. And the bathroom is disgusting - flies everywhere and it needs some serious updating. They allow people to smoke wherever - it's awful! We won't be returning. Maybe they should take some tax-free dollars and invest in a new menu? read more

Had a late lunch in the adjacent restaurant next to this place (unsure but it looked like it was the same owner). Upstairs patio facing the dock. Standard lunch fare. But the appetizer platter (jalapeno poppers, mozzarella sticks, mac & cheese stix, buffalo wings) and the chicken gyro hit the spot. But what warrants a review for this place is their killer bloody mary. Super hot but with a refreshing sweetness to it. This drink here has now motivated me to try and replicate this recipe ... seriously, really good. read more

Went back again this year and had the mussels in white wine sauce, and I can honestly say they were the best I've had all season - Buttery and delicious and I had lots of bread to soak it all up with. Service remains fantastic and we caught the sunset again, which was spectacular. Later that evening, we caught a show and some drinks at the bar. It was fantastic - bartenders are friendly, drinks are tasty, and the entertainment was great. Love this place. Love the red lights wrapped around the tree in the center of the bar. Was my first time in Fire Island and the first time in this place. The prices are completely out of the standard of the Island, the food is just ok and the service is terrible. I came back on my second day on the island and once again the experience was worst than the first tine, terrible service, I bought a beer with one of the servers after that one girl, maybe manager try to grabb my beer from the table and after this the same girl don't allow me to stay by the fence while many other people was there on the same area. The security huy don't allows me to drink the beer close to the entrance gate telling me that I can be in a problem and also him while many people was coming and leaving the place with drinks on their hands. This is among the best and most fun places to hang out on fire Island. Beautiful views from the restaurant and large covered outdoor bar area. Food is excellent, and the drinks are even better! Great, friendly service. Great party to the wee hours of the morning. Though listed on Yelp under "gay bars", people from gay to straight (and every variation in between) are made to feel welcome. read more

Horrible service. Unfortunately, my boyfriend and I came here to spend a lot and we couldn't even get a server for us to order throughout the entire experience. We ordered a bottle of wine and a cheese platter to start and we were prepared to spend the day. The cheese platter had three small little pieces of cheese, one olive tapanade that was olives put into a blender, canned jelly and stale pita bread. We decided to give it another shot and order the sampler platter (just like the cheese platter, it was 21 dollars)...3 different things on the platter with three of each. It was THE BIGGEST RIP OFF. The lunch special comes with a free bloody mary which was spicy and STRONG....no complaints from me or the wife on this one. This place is whack if you're under 45. The DJ only plays hits from a decade plus ago, and definitely no hip hop. They said they'd play our requests and then didn't. I cannot believe how my friends and I were treated at Cherrys. For fighting to have equal rights and not be discriminated against, you sure need to take a look in the mirror. We were there to enjoy fire island and have a drink at the restaurant. Which we have done for 35 years growing up in sayville but last night was an eye opener as to what this country has become. Its a shame! In the all my summers going over to the grove i never thought we would be judged based on our sexual preference. We were not breaking any law/rule. By far my favorite spot in Cherry Grove ALWAYS my first stop each time I visit cherry grove. Awesome Staff. Highly recommend the Rocket Fuel Drink. Will be going out to the Island the first weekend of May, 2018, and Look foward to hanging at Cherry lane bar to have some beverages and lunch. What a disappointment ! Went there last Wednesday for Italian night and our waiter was definitely some unhappy, Broadway dance wanna be who seemed to think waiting on people was beneath him. Since there were 4 of us we got a free bottle of "wine" - which ended up being 4 glasses of some unknown reddish / brown liquid which none of us drank. Always make Cherrys my first stop and will be there several times during my weekend visit. Awesome staff, drinks are off the hook, highly recommend the rocket Fuel Drink. Dined here with my fiancé last week. We really enjoyed sitting outside in the back. We happen to be there during sunset which made it even more beautiful. It was Mediterranean night which was very good. The food was delicious, my only "complaint" is the portion size for the price. But all in all it was a great place. The Drinks were good downstairs. Had lunch here too the following day. Food was decent. Nothing at all to write home about. The frozen cosmo was amazing. It was perfect to sit upstairs on the outdoor deck and sip frozen drinks. (Its Fire Island...Its about the booze...not eating). I would def go back again. Not much in the way of flavor when it comes to the food. Even though the burgers are "off the grill" the meat patty is frozen. It's just a place to come and fill your belly after a nice day at the beach. It's not "terrible" but if your hungry this place will do the job. We had a nice time here and would return. We both had the crab cakes, which I have to say were tastier than I would have guessed. There were two of them - fried (which is a bit of a Fire Island carb-free no no haha) but they were meaty and cooked nicely. Same with the generous portion of vegetables. The rice pilaf was a bit dry and unexciting. It could have used more moisture. The martinis were $14 and not all that tasty. Tasted chemically. Too many artificial flavors floating around in there. But, the crab cakes made up for it, and the setting was beautiful. Get here a little before sunset for a very nice time. P.S. - it's right next to the dance club, so there will be a pulsating dance beat as you eat. Not a romantic get away spot, but more a place to experience the dock area at a pristine time of night. read more

We come to Fire Island every year and hang here at least once. We don't come to eat, we come to dance and laugh. We come to make memories. Yes, we have eaten here, no its not 5 star food. big deal. This year, we had an amazing time and it was mainly because of 2 people. In no particular order bc we loved both equally. 1. James, the bartender. How can anyone not love him. He was attentive and attractive to say the very least. (that smile..James James James, you broke my heart) 2. Joe, the bouncer. He was, maybe without trying, the funniest person I spoke to all night. We made sure to go check up on him once every 5 to 7 minutes(I am sure he loved that) James and Joe, Thank you !! Love the 2 crazy (ass****) girls! We arrived in Cherry Grove on Labor Day for a few days' visit; thus, businesses were on-the-wane as the end-of-the-season was already going into hibernation-mode. On our second day, we were ready for lunch at noon; however, the restaurant we originally wanted to eat at didn't open for lunch until 3P!!! In fact, pretty much every food establishment was still closed; except, that is, for Cherry's On The Bay. Hunger was turning to Hanger, so we made a beeline tout-de-suite to its Open sign. The place was unattended. We were confused as to whether it was actually opened or not, with no one to be found. We popped into the kitchen where, indeed, employees were to be found; whereby, we were (after a bit more confusion by the kitchen help) finally greeted and seated by a young gent whom (I believe) was both waiter AND DJ for the nighttime activities, AND was (I believe) about to change shifts. Anyway, once seated on the upper open-air deck, we got right away into ordering. The main lure for us coming here was the advertising of "Poke" on their signage; that's what we ordered. Everything was in slow-mo here; perhaps it was the long weekend of partying like it's 1999...??? Food and drinks finally arrived. The poke was very tasty and fresh; however, it was NOT the traditional Hawaiian poke. I can't even say it was poke at all; perhaps "deconstructed"...??? I don't even recall what our guests thought of their respective lunches; however, I don't think they had anything negative to say about their meals. The views of the bay was beautiful. The outdoor atmosphere was pleasant. The place was empty. Our two waiters -- we had arrived in the midst of a shift change -- were both pleasant. Naturally, it took forever to get the check. We all walked out wishing the other restaurant had been open, as our lunch the day before was much nicer.... Perhaps the evening scene is a lot more happening...??? That said, again, this was the end of the season, so we were just grateful that food was available.... Somewhere.... ;) read more

The bar is fun but the small restaurant next door, Cherry Lane, is just horrible. The way over-priced and very mediocre food is served to you on a paper plates with plastic utensils and very often with attitude by an indifferent staff. We recently went there for dinner with a few friends and had a very mild complaint about our drink order which we relayed to our waiter. A few minutes later, the owner, Jackie, came over and very loudly and belligerently told us, basically, that if we weren't happy we could just leave (actually "Get the f**k out.") We were all astounded by her behavior. She was extremely rude, profane and obviously unhinged. For the owner of an establishment to behave the way she did over something so mild was a shock to every one of us. Of course, we walked out with the few other patrons in the place in complete shock by what they had just witnessed. We told several of our friends on Fire Island about our experience and they weren't the least bit surprised and some told us that they had very similar experiences with her and that they wouldn't go to her restaurant again if famine suddenly struck the island and it was the only place in town with any food. We will NEVER set foot in Cherry Lane restaurant again. Cherry Grove is a small place and word will get around, and it already has. How this joint remains open is a complete mystery. Remember that for every good experience people have and tell folks about it, they're 10 times more likely to talk about a bad experience. read more

BEWARE OF THE SEA HAG on the dock at Cherry grove! I Love Cherry's & have been going there for many many years. After having paddled from the pines in huge waves that took us hours to get there,We were greeted by a woman claiming to be both the dock master and an employee of cherries. This Sea Hag named Donna ( not the owner)said to us "too bad after all that work you have to get off the dock!" Usually cherries is a welcoming establishment. We wondered what was up. Normally we get a welcome to cherrys! Are you here for a drink? Food? You can't leave your SUP here but let me help you, nooooooooo she was a rude witch ( I have a different word I would have used) any way she got nasty. I explained I was just stopping for 5 minutes for a water and smoke, I would have tied up to a boat if she were nicer. Thankfully,it turns out she doesn't even work there. " I'm the dock master for cherrys get the f--- off the dock.kept playing in my head.I Don't think the owner Donna would appreciate her attitude and claiming she worked for Cherries. $12+ weak cocktails served in a plastic cup. Moldy lettuce and a fermented tomato constitute a Greek salad. It was supposed to arrive with stuffed grape leaves, but the kitchen was out and simply omitted them with no apology or explanation. When I realized that the tiny plastic plate of saggy lettuce was going to cost me $15 and come nowhere near satisfying my lunchtime appetite, I asked the server about the grape leaves. He comes back several minutes later and says, "Oh we're out," no apology. No amends are made when the check arrived. This meager, moldy lunch ended up costing over $60. I will not be back. read more

We were here with friends over Fourth of July weekend. The best part was sitting on the roof, overlooking the invasion action. The service was good-- very friendly--and the food was fine. Between us we had the chicken salad wrap and chicken avocado wrap. Nothing stellar but it was fine. No real complaints. read more

This bar/restaurant has overchanged hands for the last 10 years that I have been going there and the customer service is worse than ever. I go to a certain bartender that charges me ten dollars for a certain cocktail and then at night some bartender who I do not know tries to charge me 15 dollars for the same drink. Not yet alone coming to this establishment on Memorial Day weekend in inclement 50 degree weather with a group of friends who between myself and them must have easily dropped over 500 dollars at this place within a 2 day period. The "owners" who are not really the owners but lease the bar have not one ounce of customer service etiquette nor care about who spends money there.. The place needs an overhaul and there are so many men who will not go there on Cherry Grove because the place is run by two women who have no idea how to run a business!!! Sorry but go somewhere else where you can be treated right as a regular customer. Notice my review has not mentioned one name .... less is more and it is not needed... If you do go there see Johnny Pool for your drinks for he is a legend in the gay community for over 40 years.... Other than that ..... Good Luck!!!! read more
