I love this place. My wife and I eat here 3-4 times a week (no kids so we eat out a lot), which is unheard of for me as I tend to get sick of things very quickly. However, Chesapeake Deli has so much variety on their menu that I never get tired of it. It can get a little loud during the lunch and dinner rush but that is to be expected for the volume of people who come here (because it's great). The place is always spotless. Tables are cleared quickly, everything is well-stocked. Servers and line workers are friendly and helpful, as is the management. A few things to say with regard to other reviews: 1. Yes, it may seem a little pricy. However, you have to consider a few things.. This is NOT fast food. It is real food of a very good quality. If you want a cheap steak and cheese, Subway is a mile north. If you want a GOOD one, go here. Also, there's no tipping so factor that in price-wise (You can tip but if you do it all goes to the weekly charity fundraiser). 2. The management (Chad) will fix ANY problem you have. It's been rare that we've had any problems but if you are a realist, you know that things do happen eventually no matter where you are.. Everyone can have an off day. Any issues we have had were fixed immediately with no difficulty. 3. I do not believe for a MOMENT that any issue that a person of color had here had to do with ethnicity. More likely and off day or a training issue (they do have a lot of young employees). And no, I am not "a white Trump supporter". read more

Not sure what was going on this evening but it wasn't good. I ordered the stacked 'ham' burger with old bay fries and my wife had a bit. I ordered my burger medium well. When I received to burger it might have been medium although more on the raw side. The plate had juice on it and the bun was soggy. I returned to the counter and they asked if I wanted it remade. I said yes. Sometime later the burger was brought back. The burger did not have all of the ingredients. Most notably missing was the horseradish sauce. Also did not get any fries with the recooked burger. Told the server and she acknowledged they were missing and she would get them for me. Tried to get her attention several other times to no avail. As we were leaving let her know I never received my fries. She apologized. We eat here on a regular basis and not sure what was going on this evening. Very disappointed!! read more

We we out wandering, checking out the area, and decided it was time for lunch. This restaurant was close by so we stopped in. The staff was warm and friendly and the eating area was clean. The food was so good. I had the shrimp po' boy and my companion had prime rib sub. Both were good sized, with fresh and deliciously prepared ingredients. There was as steady stream of carryout orders leaving as we at, as well as a close to full dining area at noontime on a Sunday. Worth the visit. read more

I've been coming here for 5 years and it has always been my favorite spot for a nice bay sized burger or crunch crab dip burger, but the quality and taste of the burgers is a joke now. I ordered a 12oz bay sized burger medium rare and it was literally dry well done. I didnt want to say anything so i didnt return it and just ate it. I then ordered a crunch crab dip burger but this time i got it rare just so they could hopefully make it medium rare but it was well done again. This place is just a bunch of teenagers who barely know how to cook the food, and the best years of this place had teenagers cooking it too. Very disappointed, the service was great, but i wouldnt be back for a while until they get it together. read more

I had ordered my lunch from them on GrubHub. Well, my order was never picked up by a driver. My order was already delayed once and I was at work so I couldn't go pick it up. To my surprise the restaurant called me apologizing for something that wasn't their fault! They told me they were going to personally deliver it to me at work. That was above and beyond standards. Two days in a row now we have waited over 40 minutes for our to go orders. Absolutely awful service. We did an online that said it would be ready at 6:22. The girl on the phone said it would be ready in 15 minutes at 6pm. We didn't receive it until after 7 and our fries were cold and soggy and majority of the food was cold because they had half of it ready and let it sit while trying to catch up on our order. Pretty good. Definitely kind of pricey for a sandwich but my hot turkey sandwich was good, and the sweet potato fries and bay fries were good as well. They have one of those newer fountain machines that have the touch screens and let you pick what you want which is nice. They also offer beer if you were stopping by after work or something. I can't really see myself hanging out there and having a cold one - the atmosphere is a bit too lunch-ey for that but it's nice that it's offered. Service was fair. I've vistied Chesapeake Grille a hand full of times now and never fail to be impressed. From the service to food I must say for a local joint it doesn't get much better. The second we walked in the door we were greeted by a friendly smile & a hello. I was having a tough time deciding what I wanted for dinner this visit because I have so many favorites. We decided to start out with the Bay Poppers. They came out pipping hot with a side of Old Bay ranch. They were perfectly crisp and a great start to the meal. I ended up ordering a steak & cheese and my boyfriend ordered their version of fish & chips. My sub was piled high with yummy steak and the fresh roll was to die for! I rank their steak & chesse better than the one I had at Pat's in Philly! The fish & chips was made with fresh rock fish and was battered to perfection. The fries were sprinkled in Old Bay and were just down right addicting. I loved the fact I could also have a nice glass of local wine with my meal. Aside from the YUMMY food I cannot get over the friendly service. I have had the same young blonde lady take my order the last few times I've been by. She has been so friendly I feel I have to point it out. Especially because the people who take your order are the same people who bring out your food, check on your meal and clear your plates and they do not accept tips. Any tips left on tables are donated to charity. It is very rare to find such outstanding customer service when the person providing it is getting no extra incentive. I hope if the managers of Chesapeake Grille read this they realize what an amazing employee they have. Her upbeat personality alone keeps me coming back. I stopped at the Chesapeake Grille & Deli driving from Washington DC to Patuxent River for work and am really glad I had the opportunity. I was starting to lose hope of finding a local spot with easy access from my route when I pulled through Dunkirk. The menu offers a lot of variety, and I happily settled upon the Spinach Salad with grilled chicken. I was surprised to see an ingredient like dried cranberries on a salad comprised of red peppers, bacon, mushrooms, egg and a warm bacon dressing, but it really worked. I'd also just like to give a shout out to the inclusion of gooey butter cake on the dessert menu. Great little place in Owings, love the food and the staff is always friendly and helpful. The recent expansion has also opened up a nice amount of seating - my only suggestion would be that they have one or two more child seats available for use. This is after all a place frequented by families with children and on more than one occasion there isn't a seat available for my 10 month old. I do have to say that my husband and I always remark that we don't know where the owner finds his employees (all fairly young) but they are all so friendly and helpful we are blown away everytime we're there! So happy to see a place like this in Calvert! Keep up the great job! read more

I went here after Thrillist listed their Bay-Sized Burger as one of the top 20 burgers in Maryland. I bought the 8oz Bay-Sized cheeseburger with lettuce, onion, and tomato and it was very good. It came with bay fries. No complaints. It's a very good burger. My wife had the spicy, seared meatloaf. Although it wasn't spicy as the name would imply, it was a good meatloaf. We also had the old bay wings. We don't recommend these. The staff is friendly. The food is fresh and well made. The restaurant is family friendly and we will go again if we are hungry and in Dunkirk. read more

I like Old Bay but for the sake of making the menu kid friendly, I probably would have a few options without it. We had their cream of crab soup, fried pickles, and smothered potato wedges. Menu posted on wall and you order at the window. The meals are delivered to your table. I had a large burger which really was as described and cooked to perfection as ordered. I did have to special order without Old Bay. One had a pulled pork sandwich which was great. Two ordered Crab Soup described as incredible, full of crab. A meal in itself. Both had a Chesapeake Pot Pie, full of meat and veggies but unnecessary as an accompaniment to the soup. So, for what we wanted it was overkill but really good. Very laid back environment with a great variety of eating choices (both healthy and not so healthy). I got the grilled salmon and it was perfect. The vegetables that came with it were perfectly steamed as well and not over done with butter. My wife got the bbq chicken sandwich and she quickly joined the clean plate club as well saying it was 'good but a little dry.' We also ordered the spicy peel and eat shrimp...for the $10.99 price I would have hoped for more shrimp than we were served but they were fresh from the steamer (nice and hot!) but not really spicy. A lot of these reviews look fake..I used to go here couple times a month but the quality and service has deteriorated in past year. Here are my main complaints: - Food quality is not consistent: many examples including under or over cooked burgers, fried pickles with raw dough and different portions of fries (often cold) - Poor service: order food togo and sit there and wait for upto 30 minutes for burgers. After complaining the staff was rude and basically threw the food across the counter. I still tried other times thinking it was a fluke, but now it is constantly bad. I only go there because there are not many choices in Dunkirk and I believe that is why they are busy not due to good quality food and service. I hope we get more choices soon.. read more

If you go past this place keep moving!!!! They were out of all of the sodas that we wanted and come to find out the fine print on the door that said they have no crab products. It should be bigger and reiterated at the hostess stand. The waitresses attitude was not the greatest either (probably because she knew she would get an attitude when people realize you all didn't have anything available!) So incredibly happy they have the Beyond Burger!!! We've always liked to stop by and have a meal from their friendly staff but we haven't been for awhile. Our vegetarian family was thrilled to see the Beyond Burger added. Especially served with avocado, red onion and arugula! It was delicious and we appreciate their fresh ingredients. With the lack of variety of food in calvert county. It's good to see one place excelling at what they do. So many places come and go, but I have a feeling that this one is here to stay. Food was 3 star, service was 4 star. Was headed to North Beach and thought we would stop by and pick up a sandwich. Nice ambiance and the staff were very friendly. Lots of young people and all of them are very polite. It's nice to see for us older folk (I'm 32). Ordered the cheesesteak. Steak was pretty tender and their was a good amount of meat. A little pricier than what I expected but not a big deal. They offered to make the sandwich on any of their breads, which was pretty cool. The issue was the sandwich was pretty bland. Didn't realize it until we got to the beach, then grabbed some salt and pepper from a local place and the sandwich was much better. I'm guessing if I go there again, I'll bump this place up a star. read more

Normally a great experience, however we ordered Basic food and it took over 60 minutes to get food. Multiple people behind us received food. When asked, we were told 5-10 more minutes. 15 minutes later, we still did not receive our food and the order was messed up. 65.00 dollars for service and food that was terrible is not acceptable. I am down in this area about once a month and I always stop here for lunch. Hard working family runs this cafe and I think it's the best place in the area for lunch. And the staff are all college kids that are very polite and helpful. It always impressive me when I come here to see people work so hard to satisfy their customer. Unlike in DC area where many treat you like they are doing you a favor by taking your order. Burgers are very good as are the daily specials . Is it high end food? No!
