I haven't been here since 1994. Think I was 15yo. Place has not changed. You get your money's worth. Hush puppies forever. Fish stew is out of bounds. The fish bake is always a staple. Drinks were ok. I should have kept it to beers only. But our server was the best part! Attentive, kind and offered recommendations. This restaurant is very different from others as you get to see three alligators. It doesn't matter your age you'll love seeing the 9-10 foot alligator and you'll get fantastic service! If you go early enough you'll be able to order off the early-bird menu which has smaller portions. The early-bird menu has plenty of food and you definitely won't leave hungry! Updating my review. I went a few years ago and this was awesome. This trip was terrible! The crab legs I paid $50 for the small order. The shells were soft, making them impossible to crack open. They were smaller crabs too, nothing special. The flounder was bad, the steak was cooked well but the meat was tough. The only good part was the cinnamon buns! Last time for us! read more

We've been coming to Chesapeake House for a few years. It's always good food,consistent service and being able to get a reservation is a huge plus. Last night's experience was top notch. Janie was our server and she did not disappoint. Personable, attentive. She hustled but always stopped long enough to chat with us each time she came by our table. Then as we left the hostess and some others at the front started talking to us. She wanted us to buy some homemade mints the office manager makes. We bought 3 boxes of mints, not because we had to have them (they are good). We bought them because of the interaction with the staff. We went out the door talking about what a great evening we had. Came here for dinner one night with the family. Typical calabash style seafood which can be found anywhere on the Grand Strand. Nothing bad, nothing extraordinary. One thing that was unique for me was fresh hushpuppies and cinnamon buns on the table during the drink orders. Yes, I said cinnamon buns. Hushpuppies and bread at plenty of places but never cinnamon buns. Both were hot and tasty; really good. This is a helluva gamble on the restaurant's part because it's really easy to fill up on them and the patrons may not want to order any food. I started with clam chowder and the fried seafood platter for my entree because I can't get this kind of food in California so I have to take advantage of it whenever I'm home. The chowder wasn't the best I've had but it still went down good on a cold and rainy day. The platter was good and plenty big so I definitely didn't leave unsatisfied. My hat to the waiter who had to handle 10 of us and did it like a pro. Wished I'd remembered his name. Another thing I like about this place were the turtles and alligators swimming outside the window of our table. Great way to keep the young'uns occupied. Anyway, good place to eat. Not too expensive.
