The resteraunt sat on a lake and was large, being able to seat a lot of customers. The decor is a little dated in my opinion but the staff was friendly. The bathrooms were very clean and they have a variety of seafood options on their menu. I was disappointed in the food we ordered, especially for the price. I ordered a seafood platter that contained oysters, scallops, flounder, and shrimp. The batter was so bland and soggy. The seafood itself tasted like it was good quality but it was not worth getting fried as the batter was just NOT GOOD. To top it off my husband ordered the fried flounder. I'm not sure what happened but one piece of his fish tasted so fishy, I couldn't swallow it. I feel like it was going bad because the other piece of flounder tasted fine. If I could leave zero stars I would . We paid $23.95 each for the early bird combo plate we each got 6 shrimp, 1 tiny piece of flounder and a deviled crab with 2 sides . We are posting this review as we have been eating at this restaurant for over 40 years whenever we come to Myrtle beach. We were there this afternoon and were very disappointed. My husband got the Early Bird seafood platter with shrimp, flounder and deviled crab. The fish had no flavor, the shrimp tasted like frozen grocery store shrimp and my shrimp on the shrimp platter had no flavor at all. We wondered if the food served for the Early Bird special was left over from earlier this week. In addition my husband is feeling nauseated after our meal. Went tonight for first time in over a year the early bird prices range-$17-23 and food quality has declined. I ordered the chopped beef tips medium and it came out well done and had so many gristle and fat could not eat. The baked potato had weird taste like spoiled or butter bad. This restaurant could be featured on Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares. It looks like it should have gone out of business 40 years ago. The only thing keeping it in business are hordes of seasonal vacationers who don't know any better. The dining room is dark and the carpets need to be cleaned. Dinner was served with a selection of breads; hush puppies and cinnamon rolls. Additional cinnamon rolls are 75 cents each. Not even the free ones are worth it. They're dry and tasteless. They're clearly ordered from a food service and warmed for service. The salad looked like something that would be served in a hospital. A single slice of tomato, a single ring of red onion and a handful of iceberg. The server also brought some kind of fish stew that tasted horrible and looked like an attempt to use the tables scraps guests leave behind. I ordered the crab cakes, big mistake. They tasted like grease. Not crab, not old bay, not filling, just warm grease. The prices are in line with other pricey restaurants in the area. There were two people in our 12 person party that were running 15 minutes late. One of the people that was waiting was almost 9 months pregnant. The reason for being late was because a two year old needed a little extra time. They refused to seat anyone. It was ridiculous. Visiting from Pennsylvania on vacation. The staff was very friendly and professional. They went out of their way to provide a good experience. We were promptly greeted by our wonderful waitress, Caroline. She dropped off a delicious basket of cinnamon rolls and hush puppies...best hush puppies around! Two of us had crab cakes...very good. One of us had the steak and shrimp combination. One of us had the broiled scallops. All of the food was delicious and reasonably priced. The scallop quality was outstanding...so sweet and juicy! We went tonight for my birthday. We had never eaten here before and won't be going back. Every single dinner in our party of eight was cold with the exception of the Cajun shrimp and rice. That dish had zero seasonings and was awful bland. My friend barely touched the cold fried oysters she was served. My grilled shrimp had to have been grilled much earlier. I had to eat something when I got home. We were all very disappointed with the food. We also had a reservation. The hostess told me that they try to seat parties with a reservation within 15 minutes of their reservation time. They serve hush puppies & cinnamon rolls with the meal. The hush puppies seemed sweet, not like a typical savory hush puppy. The cinnamon rolls were a table favorite! I found this to be a nice place to take the family to eat. We made reservations but still had a lengthy wait due to the size of our group. It was neat standing at the edge of the fence watching the alligators and turtles. They had nice small porch games to play also while you waited or you could just sit in a rocking chair. When we got a table the first thing they bring out is the hush puppy basket which was cold. Shades of things to come. We both got the seafood platter which was our old favorite. BEWARE of any coupons that are available for this restaurant at the Myrtle Beach welcome center! We picked up one for a "Free Appetizer" with no end date and no specific appetizer noted. We presented it to the waiter Doug. He immediately said "oh that's old" insinuating it was no longer valid. When i shared that there was no date on the coupon, Then he said - "it's only for onion rings..will you eat those?" We really wanted to try their fried green tomatoes - there was a 3.00 difference from the onion rings. We asked if we could pay the additional 3.00 since the onion rings as the only option was not noted anywhere on the coupon.... What transpired then was THE worst example of customer service that we've experienced in any restaurant anywhere including fast food. Doug asked me sarcastically- "have you ever eaten here?" We had not. Why this was asked in relation to the appetizer request - we have no idea. Then he asked accusingly - "why are you trying to wheel and deal me?!?" Are you serious?? Over a 3.00 difference for tomatoes that we were willing to pay! I have never been so insulted for a reasonable request. I was unable to respond. Then he backpedaled and said he could offer the tomatoes alone, not as listed on the appetizer menu. And we were supposed to pay extra for an unequal compromise?? By this point, i was tired of this insulting interaction and told him to forget it, we no longer wanted the appetizer...... The food that followed was mediocre at best. The pork chop was tough and the deviled crabs had very little crab. The salad was sad w much of it wilted and browning. After the encounter we had, we were not about to complain! We just wanted out of there asap. In retrospect we should have walked out when he chose to argue w us. The fact that he was so adamantly stubborn about it without even checking to see if our more than reasonable request was possible was unbelievable. Never again! Far too many great restaurants at MB that offer stellar service. For example, we had a side substitution request this wk @ Carolina Roadhouse that was not on the menu. My family and I were starving after spending the day at the beach. We decided to dine here because it was the only restaurant whose parking lot wasn't full. We expected mediocre food (because of the empty parking lot), but we didn't expect to be sick! Yes, food here made all three of my kids sick! They complained of a tummy ache and two of them puked. The food was horrible. None of the dishes had any character or personality. It was more of what you expect from a low grade buffet. The place was PACKED! No social distancing AT ALL. We waited over an hour for our entrees to get to the table, and couldn't even get a refill while we waited. My wife and I are here today and this was our third trip here. The first 2 times were good, but today the food was not good. My wife loves seafood and I'm not a huge fan. She got crab cakes which she said were not as good as the last time. I typically just get a chicken dish but today I got a ribeye steaks and asked for it to be cooked medium. When I received it, it was rare and still cold in the middle. Our waiter was nice but was gone for quite a while after dropping off our food and by the time he can back around I was just ready to go. My husband and I always look forward to going to Chesapeake House each year on vacation. This year the service was good, as usual. We got seated by the window as we requested. The complimentary hushpuppies and cinnamon rolls were very good. However, the food we ordered wasn't as good this year. My husband ordered the seafood platter and I ordered the flounder. The flounder we both received was overcooked, dry, and hard. The oysters on my husband's platter were overcooked as well. The scallops were not overcooked and were delicious. We were just very disappointed in the food we ordered, in general. It just wasn't up to the standards we have experienced for many years in the past. We did complain to our waitress and the manager took 20% off the price of my husband's platter. What can I say? They definitely delivered. Everything was excellent and you totally get the bang for your buck. Their prices are a bit high but the food will leave you more than satisfied and STUFFED! I loved the aesthetic of the restaurant--perfect for a date or a get-together with friends or family. If you're looking for good seafood, this is the place to come to. Everything was as expected and I got more than I paid for! Love them! Totally recommend giving it a visit if you visit Myrtle! I have heard absolutely great things about Chesapeake House, and my husband, daughter and I decided to have dinner here our last night at North Myrtle Beach. I will start off by saying I give the customer service and the scenery a 5/5. Unfortunately, when I'm on vacation at the beach, the quality of the food pulls more weight than service for me. First, we went early, so we didn't have a wait. We were seated right next to the windows overlooking a beautiful view of the water, where we saw lots of turtles and an alligator swim by. Our waiter, Andrew was terrific! Very polite, professional and attentive during the entire meal. We were served some amazing hush puppies, butter and cinnamon rolls. Okay...we all thought it was odd to be served cinnamon rolls before a meal, but they were pretty good...soft and very fresh. We were all three served salads with homemade ranch and blue cheese dressing. The dressing gets 5 stars from us. My (adult) daughter ordered the lobster pie. She literally took two bites of it and told us she didn't like it. My husband and I both tried hers as well, and agreed. I love cheese, but this was like eating a bowl of melted cheese topped with a lot of panko crumbs. Luckily, we weren't charged for her meal. (Again, 5 stars for service). My husband ordered fried oysters & deviled crab. He describes his meal as "typical fried seafood you can get from any chain restaurant". Neither the crab nor the oysters tasted fresh. I ordered the crab cakes. They were large, and very flat compared to the crab cakes I've had elsewhere. I've honestly had more fresh-tasting crab cakes from restaurants more than 3.5 hours inland. My family and I will not be returning, but I do wish the Chesapeake House well. read more
