My wife frequented the Chesapeake House back in the late 1980's with her family and wanted to visit again. We were there for the early bird a few weeks ago. First off, it is obvious the decor has not changed in the 20+ years. She got a seafood sampler plate, and I have the chicken parm. Portions were a joke. Yes, this was the early bird but 13.00 for the amount of food that was served was embarassing. MY wife's seafood platter was ok. Yes they have the bread basket when you sit down. We got two cups of the Fish Stew even though we only ordered one. Yes, we were billed for two as well. I would not consider going back here. There were multiple places I have eated in Myrtle Beach that are FAR superior than here. They need to kick it up a notch and quit relying on their reputation! read more

Disappointing. I've eaten here before, this is my second time. The first time time, I thought I caught them on a bad day, but this meal was even worse than the first one. You start off with some cinamon rolls, bread and hushpuppies. The cinamon rolls were decent, the bread was awful and the hushpuppies are nasty. You also get a "salad" but it's quite pitiful. Then, I recieved my meal... I ordered sauteed fantail shrimp with sweet potatoe fries. I absolutely loved the shrimp, but I hated the fries. I thought honey mustard would help, but i made it worst. To be honest, the cocktail sauce was the best sauce they had! My father wanted me to point out that the ratio of wait staff to to tables is way off, our waiter worked his butt off and he definitely deserves recognition. Wow! We decided to give this restaurant a try at the recommendation of a friend. It is some of the best seafood that I have ever had. Though I had never had grilled shrimp from a restaurant , it came highly recommended by our server. I ordered a combo of the grilled and fried shrimp and both were amazing. We has a window seat overlooking the huge pond. We saw lots of turtles and a couple of gators while dining. The staff were all friendly. Our server Greg was not only knowledgable but extremely friendly and helpful! and a great server. This is definitely our favorite seafood place at Myrtle Beach now! read more

The Chesapeake House is definitely not as good as it once was. The vegetables tasted like they came from a can. The sweet potato fries tasted like frozen ones from Sam's club. The salads had brown lettuce and looked like supermarket bag lettuce. The hostess looked like she wanted to be somewhere else. Our waiter was very good, but the food overall looked like it was made much earlier in the day. The restaurant is crowded as usual and they seat and serve customers quickly, but it seems like the owners after 51 years have lost their love to provide excellent food. read more

I walked and and there I a great view of a pond behind the restaurant. The waitress was sweet and brought my daiquiri, which was great! The basket of cinnamon rolls, bread and hush puppies were good. The bread and butter was surprisingly my favorite. I ordered the scallops with steamed asparagus. Unfortunately, the scallops were underdone and the asparagus was overdone. The salad was ok but the complimentary fish stew was great! I would come back but I would not order the scallops. read more

My friends an I also checked this place out for the obvious reason posted right on their sign - it was voted best seafood joint in MB in 2010. I'd suggest making a reservation, especially if you're going on a weekend evening. This isn't the best seafood I've ever had but it's on par with the best based on flavor and serving size. Actually, I ordered the Cajun grilled salmon that was the catch of the day and it's the largest portion of salmon I have ever received at a restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised and stuffed by the time I finished. The bread basket at the beginning of the meal had three different choices in it but the cinnamon rolls with the cinnamon butter were awesome. The salad was just that and the small bowl of stew before the meal was a surprise add-on it seemed. On the meal I got a side of sweet potato fries which were kind of soggy and nothing special. The atmosphere is nice and the service staff is polite and helpful. The restaurant isn't some great unique experience though they do have alligators in the pond out back. Try to get a table next to the window for the better view. read more

We went in last night with my husband and 3 little ones. We received such a warm welcome and before our server even came over to get our drink order he put a big bowl of hush puppies and cinnamon rolls on our table, that was a sweet surprise! I had Cajun salmon and my husband had the chicken parm, both were fantastic! The prices were very moderate compared to other local restaurants and excellent service and great food. We'll be back for sure next year when we make our way make to Myrtle beach! read more

The reason I am giving Chesapeake House 4 stars is because of the food and service. We went to Myrtle on vacation and searched for places with good ratings for seafood. The seafood did not disappoint. However, the restaurant was dark and had a distinct smell and could use some updating which is why I'm not giving it a 5. They start off by giving you a basket of cinnamon rolls and hush puppies. I didn't try the cinnamon rolls because the hush puppies were the best I've ever had!! I couldn't stop eating them. For my meal I ordered lobster tails and they were great! My husband ordered a seafood platter that had scallops, oysters, a deviled crab cake and a few other things. I tried some of it and liked it all. Our server was also really great. He was very friendly and attentive. I would definitely go back on another trip to Myrtle. read more

We went here after seeing this as a finalist in the Myrtle Beach Sun News as the best seafood place in the area. Their seafood was good, but they really shined with their complementary side items. The restaurant was visually OK. It was decorated like a typical Myrtle Beach seafood restaurant that has been in business for long time (cheesy carpet, fake fish on the walls, etc). They did have a nice waterfront view. The service was very courteous. Not sure if it was because of the newspaper, but they were busy. I would highly recommend calling ahead for a reservation. The food brought out first was a real delight. They brought out this delicious fish stew, complementary to all. They also provided some yummy cinnamon rolls (yes, you read that right) and the BEST hush puppies I have ever had. I got the shrimp and grits as my entree, which was pretty good. The accompanying salad was pretty basic, but no complaints. All in all, really great experience. I'm not sure about them being the best in Myrtle Beach in regards to seafood, but I'll definitely be back. read more

We sat in the bar but could still see out the large windows at a very pretty creek or pond. The restaurant has three levels and my husband is handicapped. Allison was our waitress and she was super fabulous, knowledgeable and made wonderful suggestions. The fried oysters were cooked to perfection as Allison promised. As a first time visitor I had no expectations. We put our name in, got directions to the bar. The lack of people at the bar should have been a clue...my party and I sat down and waited, and waited, and waited. The bartender was closing a tab on arrival, then took to chatting with another couple. We were never acknowledged...with a nod, a smile, a "be right with you" until we chose to leave. We decided to come here tonight and are sooo glad we did. We had the best waitress ever- Theresa. As soon as you sit down she brought fresh cinnamon rolls and delicious hush puppies. We had a coupon for a free appetizer - and ordered fish platters. They were fantastic! We were very glad to be able to order a baked potato instead of just fries, and a salad is also a choice. Great service! The hush puppies and cinnamon rolls are awesome but dangerous before dinner! We ordered off the early evening menu which had a very good variety. Slightly smaller portions at slightly smaller prices, but plenty! Two ordered pork chops and I had the seafood platter. Only complaint is the sweet potato fries were cold and soggy. The ONLY reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the waitress was obviously NOT knowledgeable with gluten until I filled her in. This has been a long time favorite restaurant of mine but I haven't eaten there since being diagnosed with celiac until now. They have a great gluten free menu. Lots of options. I had the fish stew which comes with the meal along with a salad with 1,000 island dressing, broiled flounder and sautéed shrimp and a baked potato. The first issue was when I ordered and the waitress told me she had not ever had anyone order from the GF menu so I'm assuming she was new especially since she offered me twice to have my food fried which I knew I couldn't along with the fact that the menu did not offer that. I also told her no croutons on my salad and when my salad came out...it had one crouton on the side along with crouton crumbs so I had to stress that I needed a new salad and not just have the croutons scraped off. That was annoying but she brought me a new salad and said that she watched them make it new. The food was wonderful like I always remembered. And I did not get sick so I would say they were good with cross contamination minus the first salad. Just be careful and make sure you stress the fact if you need them to be extra careful. read more

My husband and I were on vacation in Myrtle Beach and we were in the mood for seafood. We came across Chesapeake House. This restaurant was amazing! The inside is older it has been around for 50+ years. We sat next to a window overlooking the small lake out back. My husband ordered the grilled mahi mahi which was fantastic! As Marylanders, we couldn't pass up a restaurant with a name that reminded us of home. We had dinner on a Monday night. We were one of the smaller parties seated (4), but they offer seating options for larger parties (10+), as many of those were seated while we waited. Just be sure at least 5 in your party have arrived - that seemed to be the minimum number onsite once your table was ready before they would seat you. Our waiter was very pleasant. We didn't get the bread basket, so I'm not sure if that is complimentary. We did get the fish stew. We had the artichoke/spinach dip (we added crab). Wish it had come with more toasted bread to scoop it onto, but straight from the appetizer plate to my mouth via a fork worked just as well. My husband and older son had the flounder, which they enjoyed. I had fried oysters (yum!). My younger son devoured his N.Y. strip steak. We were too full for dessert. Would recommend for parties large and small, and they are family friendly. They do take reservations; we hadn't made them. I'm shocked that the health dept hasn't shut it down. They leave sour cream on the table all day. It's warm! It's supposed to be refrigerated. It says it on the package! I asked the waitress why and she said they have been doing it for years thinking nothing was wrong. Looking at me like I'm crazy! She said they refrigerate it at night and bring it back out the next day. So now the sour cream has been warmed and cooled over and over again!?! "Worlds Famous" fish stew tasted like spicy tomato soup with tuna fish it it. Crab cakes were ehh. Chicken parm was covered in Monterey Jack?! Not Mozzarella. Fried seafood platter tasted old, greasy, and mushy. Fried chicken meal was a 4 piece half a chicken. That's was surprising. Service was fine. Decor looks old school 80s. I am giving a two stars not for the restaurant itself. We had a server in the lounge area which the bar area was under construction. Everything was going good when two plates came out cold to the touch. We asked the waiter if he would fix it and he replied, "what would we want?" Our quest stated, "hot would be good". Snapping back the waiter stated no kidding who wouldn't and this was the last time we saw him. We had the food return from another waitress and we had to go to the bar twice to get our refills. I went to CH with a friend for a 7pm reservation and we still had to wait about 15+ mins for our table. I guess I should be thankful that we had the reservation? We were starving so we were quite excited about the bread basket, however, the hush puppies were basically jiffy corn mix rolled into balls and fried. No herbs, no onions, no seasoning. The honey butter was good though. The dinner plates come with salad, soup, and another side. I ordered one of the combination plates and chose the baked potato. The baked potato was yummy, the clam strips were good, but EVERYTHING else was bland. My friend had to request Old Bay seasoning because her baked pasta dish had absolutely no seasoning. We have eaten here a couple of times, but our most recent trip was "fair". We were there and In line when they opened at 430pm and were seated promptly. Very friendly staff and our server was very attentive. 6 in our party and we mostly ordered fried flounder and shrimp. The flounder was good, the shrimp was fair. Didn't seem to have much flavor/seasoning. The cole Slaw was "tough" as it seemed Mostly made of the outer cabbage leafs. Maybe just an off night but the quality didn't seem as good as it had on past visits. I guess for the menu prices, we expect excellent quality every time. read more
