If you are looking for a restaurant that doesn't disappoint this is it. They were busy on Thursday evening when we arrived but we were seated promptly. Our server was helpful and polite. I got the early bird combo platter (flounder, shrimp, deviled crab) with coleslaw and fries. My friends got the scallops baked potato and salad. Our bread bowl came to the table with hush puppies cinnamon rolls and pound cake. A lot of hush puppies which were delicious. Our entrees were plentiful and unbelievable. There were approximately 16 scallops to each of their serving. Big wonderful scallops. Very tender and tasty. My combo plate had a large piece of flounder 6 large succulent shrimp and deviled crab served in a soft shelled crab shell. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and the atmosphere which was casual. Tables turned over quickly and though there was a line not a long wait. Well run and excellent food and service. I would HIGHLY recommend you stop there. You will not be disappointed. read more

Never fails, the last restaurant we go to on vacation is the worst. I can't totally put this place down, the bread basket was awesome!!! Then it went downhill from there... Shrimp cocktail was horrible, dinner was better, but still all the restaurants we ate at were much better... Just ate here last week for first time. It was an okay dinner experience, but nothing worth claiming Best Seafood over, based on what we had. I did enjoy the bread basket they brought out, but have to disagree about the hushpuppies being the best. I've had much better. I thought these were a little small & just a bit too hard/firm. Hubby & I split the seafood platter. It was pretty good. I thought it was a little too pricey at $19.99. If I'm paying that much, I expect better food. I did like the cup of fish stew they brought with it. Side salad was pretty basic, bordering on bland. Our server was nice & attentive. Because we were in MB before the tourist season really kicks in, we didn't have a wait at all. But it was also a Sunday night, so that might have helped. My boys liked the fact that they could look right out the window at all the turtles. We never did see any alligators. When you first walk you're greeted with the aroma of fresh baked bread. The rooms are reminiscent of Sunday dinner at your grandmothers house. That warm feeling of friends and family gathering for a wonderful home cooked meal. Upon being seated I heard something I've yet to hear at any dining establishment, "thank you for joining us today!" A delicious basket of cinnamon rolls, French bread and the most amazing, yes amazing hush puppies were brought out as an appetizer along with a honey butter spread. Along with our salad there was a tomato bisque with flounder that was to die for. The bisque was not overly acidic but with a mildly sweet finish. The fresh caught mahi mahi had a delicious Cajun rub that had just enough to compliment the freshness of the fish and cooked perfectly. Probably the most overrated restaurant in Myrtle Beach. Even with reservations the wait was crazy due to the number of people crammed in and out. With such a long wait you'd think the food was great but it was just average. The hush puppies were bland, salads only decent, and no one was blown away by their entrees. This restaurant was highly recommended by a colleague. I can only assume her seafood experiences were shaped by Captain D's and Long John Silver. I arrived at opening and had the Early Bird Platter ... consisting of a few bland shrimp, an overcooked filet of flounder, and a deviled crab that was all cornbread stuffing and no crab that I could find, all presented with zero seasoning, zero flavor, on a chipped and broken plate. Coupled with some half cooked french fries and a "salad" consisting of wilted iceberg lettuce, a slice of cucumber, and diced tomatoes I assume were from a can (who puts diced tomatoes on a salad?), the meal was a letdown to say the least. Before tip I was already over $20 for this "feast" and a soft drink. Absolutely horrible. I should have just gone to McDonald's. Why the hell there was a line at the door waiting for them to open is beyond me. I heard at least four other diners order the same thing as me, and rave about it. More power to you people. When I see a full/busy parking lot, I assume it's a good place to eat. Boy was I $80.00 wrong, I like to eat at local restaurants that are family owned and some hole in the wall places but this topped it all. We had the oiliest "signature" onion rings ever, me and family of five barely touched them. Then my wife had their signature "Baked Flounder" that was so rubbery, I ordered their Fried Sampler Platter that tasted like it came out of a frozen box...I would never go back nor tell anyone to go there on my behalf. Came here with my family based on mostly favorable reviews on Yelp. I was very disappointed. Here's what was good: The service - Our waiter was good. Just enough attention, but not annoying. The bread basket- well, really just the cinnamon rolls. The hush puppies were average the white bread was dry. The She Crab soup - It was really, really good. The New York Strip - my son enjoyed his steak. Here's what was bad: The Shrimp Creole - my wife took about two bites and gave me a bite. I have never said this about any food I've reviewed before, but this dish was inedible. It was mushy, and flavorless like something that came from a can. The shrimp was just mush, maybe extremely overlooked. It was awful. The Shrimp and Grits - I eat this dish frequently, all over the Southeast. This was the worst I've ever had. The shrimp itself was fine, decent sized and cooked just right. I ate all the shrimp off the top of the mess that was underneath. The rest was basically just grits with some sausage they claim was Andouille but it had little flavor. This was all slathered in brown gravy like you'd get in a Swanson Salisbury steak frozen meal. I have a strong feeling that your experience here will depend upon what you order. They had a special with mahi mahi with a lump crabmeat sauce. I wish I would have ordered that. This place would be doing themselves and their customers a favor if they took the two dishes we had off the menu. After waiting an hour to get in and then spending $125 for three adults and one kid, I left highly disappointed. read more

My family visited Chesapeake House last night for dinner and it was amazing, as always. We were a party of 8 and were seated within 5 minutes. Our server (I can't remember his name, sorry!) was SO fast and efficient! He immediately brought the baskets of CARBS to our table (fresh baked bread, cinnamon rolls and hush puppies!) and took our drink orders. Our food came in record time and everything was spectacular. My husband and I knew that the portions were big, so we shared a fried flounder plate, which came with a baked potato, side salad (we ordered an extra) and their famous fish stew. Let's talk about the fish stew- it's a delicious, spicy, tomato based fish stew with so much flavor! Our flounder was cooked perfectly, as were all of the meals for our entire party. My daughter got the Chicken Parmesan and she said it was delicious. My parents both ordered off the senior menu, and even though our server told them the portions are smaller on the senior menu, you would never have known! Their portions were NOT SMALL! This is a really great family atmosphere, but I wouldn't recommend it if you want a nice quiet date night. Overall, just a wonderful meal at a great price, too! read more

My family and I have come here for years when we visit Myrtle Beach. We decided to come again this year because we always get a quality meal. We came with a party of 8 and made reservations, I highly recommend making them or else you will wait for at least 1 hour. We were seated once our entire table arrived and waited on within seconds. We put in our drink orders and then looked at the menu. We all ordered seafood - of course. I ordered the shrimp platter which I always do - and it was as good as usual. I got my shrimp grilled and it came out super. The rest of the table had gotten flounder, the seafood platter, crab cakes, and the grilled Mahi. Everyone enjoyed their meals and were very satisfied. However, the service wasn't as good as it normally is. Our waiter was very attentive to start and then sort of forgot we were there. We had to ask what the specials were - he didn't tell us, we had to ask for refills a few times, and he wasn't personable at all. I will give him the benefit of the doubt though because I think they were very under-staffed and he had way too many tables. He gave us our food and we really never saw him again until we had gotten the check. It was odd how unfriendly he was - but having a good meal made that better. I would certainly go back to Chesapeake, I'm just hoping we get better service next time - or it will no longer be a regular spot for us! read more

The only reason for three stars is the fish stew. We've been coming here for years and this visit may be our last at least dining in. We arrived at dinner time with a wait. The hostess who was more concerned with her off the shoulder sweater than actually managing wait times since we were told 5-10 minutes and waited 25 for a table for 3. Once seated after our wait we waited another 10 before our waitress came to our table. She seemed frazzled but it was the dinner rush we've always seen when coming here. We ordered a couple of salads, two bowls of soup and one entree. We waited. And waited. Our salads were brought out. Well, two were. The other two were done eating. Before the waitress came back by so I could tel her mine was forgotten. It was another few minutes before it arrived. And then after over half an hour from ordering our food came out. Water got refilled at the very end of the meal. Very disappointed in a place we've been coming to annually for well over a decade. If we come back it'll be for a takeout order at the very most. read more

This was the first time I was not drug to a seafood troph experience which automatically gave it a big boost. I had the senior flounder plate which was enough and priced appropriately. No I am not a senior, but when i asked for a half portion my waitress offered this. She was Great and very attentive. We made reservations as it always appears to be packed, so the wait was minimal. Service was fast, food was hot when we got it, and they didn't screw up fried food, which is totally possible. This is the 3rd time I've gone over the past 2 years (Duke beach week) and it's been great both times. While it doesn't compare to some Maryland crab houses, it was certainly an excellent meal. The hush puppies and cinnamon rolls were simply to die for. The fish stew was also delicious. The salad was a pretty generic salad, to be honest. In terms of the entree, I got the combination plate with deviled crabs, sauteed shrimp, and grilled scallops. The deviled crab was probably the weakest part - it was a bit bland and had too little crab meat for my liking. The sauteed shrimp were cooked perfectly and delicious, especially with the wine sauce. The grilled scallops also tasted good, but they were a bit inconsistent with the cooking (uneven shapes and sizes, and most had turned rubbery from being overcooked). We had been in town all week, and on our last night out for dinner, we stayed away from the 'all you can eat' buffet places - the over the top steak houses (all of which by the way were excellent) - but we wanted a more laid back place for our last meal in town. We got there late - around 9pm - and was seated quickly. We were met with a large basket of hush puppies and cinnamon buns, and bread, along with our ordered beverages. Our server was top of the line! He listened to what we were looking for and made suggestions that were spot on! We had an amazing meal here this past week. In fact, my sister and her hubby ate there the night before and insisted we all join them for dinner there because it was so good! We had a party of 7 so called ahead for reservations and asked for a window seat but knew we likely wouldn't get one. We were pleasantly surprised to arrive at 6:30 and shortly after be seated at a table of 7 with a great window view! The kids were thrilled! The bread basket was SO good! We used regular butter for the hush puppies, not the cinnamon butter, and they were awesome. We all ordered different meals. Two of us ordered the crab cakes with baked potato, one the lobster pie, one the fried chicken with Lima beans, the kids had seafood platter and the fried shrimp, and lastly one ordered the soft shell crab with limas. Not ONE of us was disappointed in our meals! We all raved about our food, in fact. The portions were large so we had quite a bit to take home and the leftovers came in handy the next day! Our friend who ordered the soft shell crab said it was the best she had had. My crab cakes were also the best. They use hardly any filler whatsoever so the taste is pure crab! My mom said the fried chicken was very good; she's not a seafood fan. I tried the lobster pie and it was wonderful! Even the kids were pleased and ate well!! We definitely didn't need dessert after all that! We have all said we will be coming back with our next visit to MB! In fact, next time we will likely skip the buffet place and come here for a more relaxing, enjoyable meal! And I'll get my crab leg fix there!!! read more

The Chesapeake House is a staple in the old "Restaurant Row" in North Myrtle Beach and unfortunately the place looks like has not changed in all that time. It is very dated and in need of some renovations. The food is nothing special and it is primarily seafood with some pasta and steak selections as well. On the plus side they are set up to accommodate large groups or families with just a short wait. Our waitress Theresa was outstanding and made sure our large group was well taken care of. We also enjoyed the selection of breads, hush puppies, and cinnamon rolls that is brought out after sitting. Additionally, most meals come with fish stew, salad, and a side dish. Overall if you are nearby with a large group it's a good choice but I would would not make a special trip because there are better choices for seafood and steaks in the area. read more

I got the Florentine seafood pasta dish. 6 small shrimp, 4 little neck clams, pasta (not the menu Penne) swimming in a tasteless pesto sauce. Wife was a bit better albeit just as soupy with the shrimp and grits. Just not nearly worth what you pay for it. Non descriptive salads. Interestingly they serve cinnamon rolls as the bread offering along with hush puppies that were just not tasty. Rustic dining rooms with cool prints of old Myrtle Beach offered for sale. Service was on point and timely. I would just highly recommend you stick to something else. Maybe the fried or broiled variety. It was just way too expensive to justify the quality. The Chesapeake House has become a tradition in my family. I have been going to this place since I was a baby and will continue to go here. The food is always delicious and the view is beautiful.
