I'll tell you what the definition of staggering odds is..... I started eating at Chesley Bar in 2009, so 11 years now. Let's use an average of 1 burger a month(I've gone months without eating one, but I've definitely had months of eating one a week). That's 12 burgers a year. Multiply that by 11 years. That's 132 burgers, roughly. I have never -- EVER -- had a burger from there that was less than perfect. Perfectly cooked medium every. single. time. And delicious. I don't know what kind of wizardry goes on back in the kitchen, and to be honest, I don't want to know. All I know is, whatever it is, it cranks out the best burger on the planet. Well, maybe not the planet. There are a lot of places I haven't been. But they definitely have the best bar burger of any Lincoln Park bar that's located between Emmons and Southfield on the east side of Fort St. I'm a burger guy all the way and this bar makes the best damn burger I've ever had. Awful, absolutely awful. Just go to Meijer and buy all the frozen, crappy food yourself. And to top the awful food, you get ranch dressing, even with a steak ( no way that was steak) quesadilla. No sour cream, no salsa. Awful, bland and way too expensive. It is a bar, so maybe if you're blitzed it tastes good. Save yourself a few buck and go anyway else. read more

The experience here was amazing, although the server was the only one and also the only bartender with a full house she took care of everyone. She made sure we had refills and checked on us. We ordered the hot wings, it had a good taste but nothing against them I'm not a big fan of naked wings. The fries, onion rings and side salad all delicious. If you're looking for decent downriver dive, you've probably found it. Old decor, probably haven't been changed ever since your eldest son was 10 years old. I've experienced here the cheap beer which is mostly domestic stuff. It's a no B.S. joint. You come in,, have a drink. If you're hungry, order something to eat. Come on a weekday,, that way it's a bit more quieter. Other than that, it can get a bit noisy. Expect a stare or two or three from the regulars when you walk in. For only 6 bucks you get this platter of crispy fries loaded with pizza sauce melted mozzarella cheese and loaded on top with pepperoni slices. I had this during lunch which is enough to share WOW what a great idea. This quaint friendly bar has an amazing selection of craft beers and unique food's not found in the downriver area, The menu is loaded with burgers, sandwiches and Polish food too. I had a mega corned beef sandwich topped with 2 perogies and melted cheese on a grill bun along with a Bacon Cheeseburger topped with crumbled blue cheese. I can't get over the $8.99 burger & fries. This burger was not worth $5.00. Service was,,,, ok. Went to pay, card reader was down, so it was either cash or ATM. We heard this was a good place to go, but $8.99 burger/ fries was so small, and EVERYTHING was extra from cheese to onion to lettuce to tomato, ALL $1.55 extra. So now your $8.99 burger( again did I mention how SMALL it was for that price) is $$$. Very disappointed. Needless to say, won't be going back. read more

Their Bloody Mary is excellent! I get it a tad spicy and am always nervous that a place will 'over' spice but they keep it tame. I'm not a huge fan of my mouth being on fire so this works for me. The server asked all of us what spice level we preferred, if any. There were about 10 of us on this last occasion and I swear, everyone ordered their Mary's slightly different. Waitress and bartender nailed them all! Kudos for that. Onto the food...they have some juicy burgers. All with interesting names referencing the area. I am not a fancy gal so I just snag the bacon cheeseburger. They cook this as ordered and the bacon isn't burnt or soggy. They get another kudos. Oh, and guess what?!!??!! They have fried Mac and Cheese balls!! Woo-Hoo! Love them. Do I dare say, "Another kudos?!" Why yes, I dare. One negative mention though....the waitress we started with (on this last occasion) was awesome, per the usual at this local joint. BUT her shift ended and a new girl came on. This woman walked in and said, "I think I'm still drunk from last night." I thought she was a patron just being obnoxious. Then she proceeds to grab our empty plates. Ummmm....who the hell are you? I had to ask. She was our server! Very unprofessional of her as she made no announcement to us that she even worked there. Not to mention....she was still drunk! This isn't a deal breaker by any means because their food and drinks overrule AND this was an isolated incident. However, it was still off putting. Chelsey's advertises itself as a local 'Cheers' and that's exactly what it felt like. When the Wife and I showed up around dinner time Friday night the place was already full of obvious regulars. It's a small, no frills, neighborhood bar and I loved the laid back vibe. For dinner we grabbed one of their house burgers which did not disappoint. It was cooked and seasoned well. Later, when friends stopped up to join us they ordered their famous pizza fries which we all scarfed down in minutes. The appetizer of pierogis would be my only complaint since they were clearly Mr. Ts thrown in the deep fryer, but I have pretty high expectations when it comes to my pierogis. As it got later in the night the place filled up with a decently mixed crowd. The drinks were stiff and always full just the way we like them. To top off an already great night our tab was stupid cheap. We will be back!!! read more

The "Cheers of Downriver"!!! Chesley's is a great place to get together with friends and family for a night out or a quick bite to eat. The mix of patrons range from the steady regulars to the first timer and from young to old. Everyone is friendly and the atmosphere is great! With their extensive menu and daily food specials, the food is awesome, and the prices are excellent! A few of is girls were out shopping and decided to stop here for a bite and a drink. According to the reviews the bloody marys were suppose to be great so why not, who doesnt love a spicy Bloody Mary at 1:00 in the afternoon! So we were seated and looked over the menu and ordered the famous Bloody Marys to start out. They came to the table and looked wonderful! The garnish was 4 olives, a dill pickle spear and a celery stalk, cant beat a snack with your drink. Our first taste we looked at each other and all had that same look on our faces like, " where is the flavor". Maybe we had a bad bartender but they tasted like watered down tomato juice. We asked the waitress if they were made with just tomato juice and not mix and she said no we use Mrs T's mix! Thats why, if Im correct that is the cheapest kind of mix out there. So needless to say the $5 drink was not good and we stuck to just plain ole diet pop. For the food we decided on burgers. I fot the Coach Noland burger which had cheese, onions and horseradish sauce. I also ordered onion rings instead of fries for an up charge. The burger was cooked perfect and was tasty and the onion rings were nice and crunchy with a batter with a bit of sweetness to the onion. My friend ordered the sliders and she said they were very good also and they also had grilled onions. My other friend ordered the chesley burger which was like a big Mac being it had a thousand island type dressing that she said it tasted like it was homeade. She said her burger was excellent. So the food was great, the waitress was friendly and fast so that made us give the rating we did. We would go back however not order the bloody Marys again. read more

Small local bar. If you come a few times, the waitress pretty much learn your order. There are many regulars that we have seen there many times. The food is great. Their polish plate is pretty good considering it's not from a polish restaurant. They have daily specials too that you can find on their Facebook page.
