I came with my nephew and sister and we were all surprised at the prices vs the portion sizes! Being from Atlanta I was expecting smaller portions but they go big here! I got the Fat Daddy Sandwich and was so excited to eat it and almost burnt my tongue. The chicken was freshly fried and dressed to order. I dug into the delicious cheese fries while I waited for my sandwich to cool. Pairing it all with the fried pickles just competed the whole meal. I used to visit Fat Daddy's all the time, but as I moved a bit further away, my visits have decreased in frequency. Still, it's always a pleasant treat to drop by and have some hot chicken once in a while. On my most recent visit, I got a couple of items: Chicken Cheese Fries, Mild ($13.70) - The fries are kind of chewy and not crisp but that could be because of the 15 min drive home before digging in. Fresh green onion and fried chicken tenders are dropped on top with the meat being not dry but not especially moist. In terms of spice level, we went with mild, which in this case is basically not spicy at all, giving just a very slight tingle on the tongue. Tangy, almost vinegary comeback sauce and a cheese sauce are drizzled on top of everything. Overall the seasoning level is good. I mean, it's fries with stuff on top; hard to mess that up. I just don't think I would get this again because the sandwiches are way better and this is just average. (3/5) Hush Puppies ($4.60) - One order comes with six pieces. These hush puppies have a nice crisp exterior skin with a tender and fluffy corn meal interior, seasoned perfectly. They come with the comeback sauce on the side, but I don't think they actually need the sauce as they are perfectly delicious by themselves. (4/5) The Fat Daddy, Hot, Pickles ($13.70) - Woah, this thing is hefty. I'd almost forgotten how big the sandwiches are. This single sandwich probably weighs equal to everything else we got. They give you a giant chicken thigh with a super moist interior and a crisp exterior. The chicken has a bit of heat at hot but is not overwhelming. Either my heat tolerance has gotten better or they've toned the heat down - I remember always getting the hot and having trouble with it in the past! They add a bit of slaw to add additional crunch. You can choose between pickles and peppers - I went with pickles to amp up the vinegar tangy notes. Everything is on a fluffy buttery bun. The sandwich comes with seasoned fries that are seasoned well and not overly salty. The texture feels a little chewy rather than being crisp and they look kind of pale, like they are under fried. A bit disappointing to be honest. (4/5) Since I first visited Fat Daddy's, they've expanded to a couple more locations around the Metro. I'm happy to see them getting their food out to a wider audience. I definitely recommend them, especially for their hot chicken sandwiches. When you get there there is a register where you order from any restaurant in there and you pay for your food. They then give you a number and you sit at the table and the food will be brought out to you, from wherever you ordered. I ordered two chicken tenders with a side of fries and Macaroni. The chicken was very big juicy and hot. I ordered two slices of bread to make my own sandwich. The Macaroni and cheese was cool as well. I was shocked that it was, as most of the time it's usually lukewarm when I get it. I opened the container and my sandwich was perfectly wrapped and my fries were next to it. When I took the first bite, all I could think of was writing this review. The whole time, in my mind, I'm thinking that this review about to be lit! This is thee best chicken sandwich I've EVER had! Like WHEW! Chic fil who?! You can tell that the food is cooked with love. The chicken itself was so flavorful and tender and juicy. OMG! I was so sad that it was over. The coleslaw and the sauce just added an extra kick and texture that is out of sight. I am STUFFED. It portion size of the chicken was literally the size of my hand. The fries were good also. Very crispy and delicious. The banana pudding was par and a little runny. A little about me, I love banana pudding by hate bananas lol. And in this small container I literally had a whole banana in there and barely any pudding. Typically you get a few pieces but not the whole thing. Hadn't been there for a few months and was so disappointed. I got the same thing as I always do this time it was very much over cooked and in reality about 1/3 smaller than usual. Also it was dark meat not a chicken breast. The taste was good and my granddaughter also thought it wasn't the same but said it tasted good and she forgot how good the fries were. Tiny tiny place that I almost drove by because I'd never been to Detroit before. They were essentially carry out/delivery only at the time I was there (and this was February 2020, just before the pandemic really upended things in the US) because they had a picnic table outside in February and they have a small table inside. My meal was great. I got the tenders and waffle meal. I really like how they allow you to mix and match heat--I have been to other hot chicken restaurants where they didn't (or they didn't make it known). I got one that was hot and one slightly less hot. HOLY COW, the hot one was hot. Then goodness for the syrup, waffle, and other tenders to moderate the heat a bit. I got collard greens as a side and they were fantastic, even without hot sauce on them (though of course I added hot sauce). It's nice that they have to-go portions of hot sauce since they're not equipped to have people stay and eat in the restaurant. Prices seemed a bit high. The disappointing part of the meal was the dessert I bought. Crispy chocolate cake, I think it was called? It was not good. I immediately jumped on my desktop and logged into Ask Jeeves and queried this place known as Fat Daddy's Hot Chicken and Waffles. After quicky printing out the MapQuest directions for the 55 minute drive to Riverview. Let me tell you about this spot was worth every single bit of the anticipation. The chicken was perfectly fried. Biting into it, there was a crisp crunch and the texture was perfect. Inside was soft and juicy, not dried out. I chose a milder version of the sauce because as an old man, my Prilosec budget was already far exceeding my grocery budget. The sauce still had plenty of heat but most importantly, the flavor was splendid, the heat didn't overpower the flavor. Then, of course, there is the waffle. There wasn't much to say about the flavor of the waffle, as it was pretty standard but the thickness is ideal and was soft enough to cut with the fork but not so soft it was squishy. The one thing I wish all chicken and waffle places would do is add a touch of flavor to the waffle to make it balance with the heat, vanilla is how I make it at home. Of course the real star of the show is the chicken so maybe I should just shut up and rub my belly quietly with pleasure. Came here because of the reputation. Known for having one of the best chicken sandwiches in metro Detroit, I needed to find out what all the hype was about. First time here I obviously had to go with the original Fat Daddy chicken sandwich they were famous for. There are multiple locations, but I was told this one in Riverview is the first. As far as the heat level was concerned I went with the highest (Too Damn Hot). I can tolerate excessive spice and withstood hot chicken in similar establishments. This was by far the most excruciating seasoning I've had compared to other fried chicken joints. I managed to finish my sandwich, but oh boy it really came back to haunt me later in the evening if you know what I mean. As delicious as the chicken was I was constantly having to blow my runny nose and wipe my hands from the really wet slaw that made the sandwich a bit more difficult to hold. I enjoyed their fries too, but have had better elsewhere. Despite these minor setbacks Fat Daddy's is a great franchise and I look forward to trying their other menu items (with less heat as well). read more

My son is a heat addict and these chicken sandwiches hit the mark even with his taste for super fiery food! I order mine with no spice and it's enough for two people to share. It's got a good price point considering the massive sandwich and ridiculously tasty fries. Geeked that we live nearby to indulge on a regular basis. I got The Fat Daddy and ordered online for pickup - not realizing the sandwich came with fries (most places make you buy separate), I ordered a side of fries...the restaurant quickly called me to make sure this was intentional or on accident. So happy they did because it would have been a lot of fries...even then the fries are absolutely delicious and some of the best fries I've had. Our order was ready exactly when the mobile order estimated. The restaurant was very clean, and the staff was very friendly and had great customer service. The food was ok. But get this...I go in about 50 mins before closing. Right off the bat, the girl behind the counter is giving us dirty looks like we shouldn't be there. Then we order and sit down. She starts slamming chairs onto the tables next to us, like they're closing and she's giving us the hint. The order takes about 20 minutes. Then, the lady is constantly giving me dirty looks. Then she starts making random passive aggressive comments about them closing. 15 mins before closing she starts yelling, "we're closing in 15 minutes!" The other people in the restaurant leave, I'm still finishing mine. 5 minutes before closing, the guy the in kitchen says, "are you going to turn off the lights or not?" So, they turned off the lights on me, 5 minutes before closing, and I left. I don't think they understand they're in the service industry, and I won't be back. This place is mostly for carry out, but has a couple of tabes available if you choose to eat there. I went with the hot chicken sandwich with bacon, served between two glazed donuts. That sandwich was delicious. It was very filling and cam with a heap of fries. The fries were just as good as the burger. The staff there was ver friendly an helpful, even when we showed up to dine-in 30 minutes before closing. I could not wait to take my food back home. I had to eat it on the spot. Finally! A delicious hot fried chicken sandwich! This is a small take out place with one picnic table outdoors if you're lucky enough to snatch it. And I recommend eating this while it's hot! We called in and placed our order. After reading the reviews we decided to do the mini chicken sandwiches and ordered them spicy. We each ordered one with peppers and one with pickles. It was early dinner Sunday so our food was ready in 15 minutes. These mini sandwiches weren't really that mini....so the 2 you get is a good amount. The fries are thick and tasty (seasoned with something) and you do receive plenty. The buns are sweet bun and the chicken is rather large. It's similar to a large chicken tender. And it's SPICY! We love spicy and can handle HEAT, which is why we ordered spicy...and this was SPICY! I liked the spice but next time would do a notch less. We ordered one sandwich with pepper and the other with pickle. The pepper is a yellow pepper and is not needed when you have a spicy sandwich! The pickle was good and I wish there was more than just one. The chicken is so tasty-juicy-perfect coating-crunchy and not salty but actually spicy! It even comes with a side of fries for no extra charge. The meat is very juicy and tender and the spice is well balanced out w the coleslaw. My friend got the coleslaw as a side and she thought it was really good as well! The fries are nice and crispy and well seasoned and it's rare to find a place nowadays that doesn't charge for them as a side. Although they wrap half of it to make it easier to eat it is still a very messy meal. All orders come with a wet wipe to clean up afterwards! DONT BE FOOLED by the small location! The Chicken was amazing. Just finished my meal and I had to leave a review. This was my third time attempting to get food from Fat Daddy's because they are always busy. If I would have known how good it was I would have waited the first time. Walking in I noticed one single table and one chair available. So plan on getting this food to go. You won't find the frills of a chain restaurant and a fancy establishment, but you will find a friendly staff and the kitchen booming with activity. Onto the food. I'm a spicy food fan 100%, and their Nashville Hot Chicken doesn't disappoint. Not knowing how large each chicken tender would be I totally over ordered my meal, but I'm not complaining. I swear each piece is at least half of a chicken breast in size. I went for the "Hot" and one piece on the side that would be their "X Hot too Damn Hot". Hot- I was extremely surprised by the flavor. I couldn't quite place it, but to me it was the perfect balance of everything. Enough crunch, enough moisture and juiciness, and an amazing blend of flavor and spices. I definitely felt the heat, nice constant burn but not overdone to where it kills the flavor. Topped off with peppers and pickles it was perfection! Delicious!! We got a Fat Daddy (X Hot) and a 1/2 dark (1/2 X Hot 1/2 Too Damn Hot) plus Mac and cheese and everything was great. The chicken was moist, well seasoned, super flavorful, crunchy...everything. X hot was the perfect level of heat fore me. Too Dam Hot wasn't unbearable but would have my nose running. Also I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Mac was the classic southern style baked Mac and cheese (not the soupy Mac that's so common up here) and it was SO good. I can't believe I just now found out about this place! Also the service was great. We chatted with the owner while waiting for our food and she was so kind and friendly. The crunchy, cold pickle slices and coleslaw give the sandwich and your mouth a nice treat to cool down amidst the heat, and the comeback sauce is aptly named because it's one of the many things that keeps me coming back. After demolishing the incredible sandwich, you still have a bunch of amazing, crispy-battered fries. I'd suggest getting a couple sides of the comeback sauce to dip them in - it's way better than ketchup. It's hard for me to describe the sauce, but man is it delicious. The mild was perfect and the hot was just right. It's Saturday and I drove 25 minutes and came in during their dinner rush. I waited almost 45 minutes, but the staff was busting out the orders. They offer doordash, so maybe order ahead of your short on time. The staff was friendly and worked like a well oiled machine. They also kept the kitchen and pick up area spotless.
