Popped in for a quick lunch! The food was superb, fresh tasting, and a lot of flavor. It came out super quickly. The firecracker shrimp sauce was delicious, the tuna salad was HUGE that I had to take some home and the steak bowl was super tasty. Portion sizes are great here. They even gave us free coleslaw to try, which coming from Pittsburgh, we were thrilled about. Our server, Melissa, was so nice and friendly. Quick with refills and checking on us. Four stars though, not five, because we are currently in a pandemic and nobody had masks on or gloves on or anything of the sort, which made us feel a bit uneasy. We were one of two tables in the restaurant during a slow lunch, so I'm hoping things may be a little different during busier times? read more

Went to the famous Sunday brunch for the first time in about 10 years. They changed up the layout post-Covid and now have the food in another room versus down the center of the dining room. This detracted from the experience a little but I get they want to create a little more separation. Food was solid, variety/quality was what you expect for $30 a person. Service was attentive and view is always great. My only disappointment was the dessert. For a place that has amazing homemade desserts on their dinner menu, I think they could have stepped up their brunch offerings. read more

A first visit to Chestnut Hill was a very pleasant experience. Celina our waitress was very personable and helpful. We were seated by the window where we could watch the turtles.The feeling of the restaurant is very nice old school. The menu was very slanted to seafood but had a nice selection of other dishes. We all had different entrees including a seafood dish with various types of seafood and baked with ch. Another had a seafood platter. Another chicken parmigiana and myself a ribeye being allergic to shellfish. We all enjoyed our meals. They had a happy hour special of buy one get one free shrimp cocktail with huge shrimp. Chestnut Hill is always a favorite. Ambiance is always special with cloth tablecloths, low music playing all while overlooking a beautiful pond that has a fountain. A great date night place. The bread basket filled with warm house-made muffins hits the spot. The salad is prepared so nice with great dressing choices. Most of the time I order a seafood dish and it never disappoints. Party of 4. Wednesday night. Mid July. 6:15 P.M. dinner. Perfect! Chestnut Hill was an ideal restaurant for our evening meal with friends. It is a lovely building in a beautiful setting alongside water, birds, and even alligators (although we did not see any gators). The menu is varied, with options for every palate, including some regional specialties. We called for reservations just a couple of hours before going, and were quickly accommodated by a very friendly and helpful hostess. When we arrived, we found plenty of available parking despite numerous customers. Our table and seating were very comfortable. There were two steps down into the dining room where we were seated, but the handrails made it relatively easy to navigate (for those with mobility issues). I did not inquire about full accessibility seating, but I am guessing that they have it--- something to ask about next time. Our server, Lea, was outstanding. Friendly, knowledgable, welcoming, and attentive, she was the consummate professional. After we were seated, a bountiful basket of cheddar biscuits and mini blueberry muffins was delivered. It was a great way to begin the meal! Yum! My menu selections included She-Crab soup that was creamy, filled with bits of crab, and very flavorful. The side mixed greens salad had an especially delicious blue cheese dressing on the side. I also ordered their crab stuffed mushrooms that were absolutely wonderful! The stuffing was perfectly flavor-balanced. From the large menu of entrees, I chose the Shrimp Scampi. The shrimp were so fresh and prepared beautifully, and the Angel hair pasta and Scampi sauce were scrumptious. Others in our party gave great reviews of their Shrimp and Grits, Fried Green Tomatoes (amazing presentation!), Seafood Florentine with scallops and shrimp, and New York Cheesecake. I highly recommend the Derby Pie for dessert. Having grown up in Kentucky, I've enjoyed some really terrific Derby Pie, and Chestnut Hill's version hits the mark! What an unexpected throwback for me. We found the prices to be very reasonable for this level of dining and service, and would definitely return to dine at Chestnut Hill again. read more

My family and I haven't eaten here for several years. We used to enjoy their Sunday brunch, but the last time we went they removed a lot of the dishes we enjoyed, so we didn't go back. We were in the area on a Tuesday around 5pm and decided to eat here. The parking lot was about half full. We were greeted and seated immediately. Unfortunately, all of the customers were seated together, so we felt like we were on top of other parties. I wish we would have been spread out. We were seated at a table with a view of the waterway. We had a nice view of the alligators and turtles sunning themselves on the wooden platform floating in the water. Shortly after we sat down, our server came over to take our order. Our server was friendly, polite, and attentive. We never had to ask for refills and he constantly checked in to make sure everything was good. We were given cheddar biscuits and muffins. I don't care for muffins but my parents said they were really good. The cheddar biscuits were divine. We were practically fighting for the last one. While we were gnawing away on biscuits, we saw an employee throwing the old biscuits into the waterway behind the restaurant. The alligators and turtles came out to the water to eat them. I ordered the soup of the day (ham and potato soup) and the dinner entree salad (iceberg, romaine, spring lettuce, almonds, tomatoes, cheese, craisens). The salad was supposed to come with egg but it wasn't on there. The salad was good, but it could have used a few more toppings, especially almonds and cheese. The blue cheese was really delicious. I took half of the salad home. The soup was so good. The ham chunks were pretty big and the potatoes were so soft. I'd definitely order it again. My mom wasn't too hungry, so she also ordered the ham and potato soup and a side house salad with blue cheese. She enjoyed the salad. She thought the soup was delicious as well. My dad ordered the seafood platter (shrimp, flounder, scallops, crab cake), veggie medley and potatoes. My dad didn't care for the crab cake. He's from Maryland, so he's super picky about crab. He loved the flounder. The scallops were cooked perfectly. The shrimp was good. He thought the red skin potatoes were good. The veggie medley was squash, zucchini and broccoli. He doesn't like squash or zucchini but enjoyed the broccoli. On our way out, the older woman at the hostess desk (who I believe is one of the owners?) thanked us for coming and asked how our meal was. She truly cared about our comments. Overall, we would return. I'd be curious to try their brunch again. We hadn't been here for years and this meal and service was a pleasant surprise. read more

This was my first time dining at this restaurant. We were a family party of 7 celebrating a birthday. Our reservation was honored & we were promptly seated by the window overlooking a beautiful pond with turtles & an alligator! It was a beautiful evening. Our waitress, Lonnie, was very attentive & personable. The food selection was excellent.. either seafood or meat. What I really enjoyed was the option of small plate entree or regular sized at appropriate prices. Also, they offered a FREE birthday dessert to the person being celebrated. Absolutely loved the food. The flounder was tender and moist. The bread basket undeniably the best I've ever had. My big issue is... This is COVID-19 people. This restaurant had absolutely no social distancing. Tables crammed together. The waitress literally was rubbing against me as she squeezed between tables and was also very much in my face when talking and passing dishes, despite my obvious efforts to Back away from her. This was very disturbing. I did not see one employee wearing a mask or gloves. We came in at 5 PM so the restaurant was near empty. After ordering food the restaurant started to crow.d. By the time our food was delivered we realized there was no distancing between tables. The person to my left was literally 18 inches from me. There was no reason for this to happen. They just kept seating tables without regard. to proximity to other people. this would be a five star review lacking a pandemic....However, the lack of respect for the the safety of others is totally horrific. If you value your life more than food try finding other restaurants that are respectful of The current situation. read more

I am generously giving 3 stars for a few bright spots - good service, delicious cheddar biscuits, and above average portions of wine. The she crab soup was okay, but much too thick and I'm pretty sure it was pre-made. I ordered the broiled founder. Unfortunately, it was way overdone. All the entrees come with boiled potatoes and a vegetable medley. Both of which were overcooked and not seasoned. I think it would be better if they offered the choice a baked potato and salad. My boyfriend is complaining about a sick stomach after ordering the New York strip special with a blue cheese reduction and let's just say it was more of a blue cheese chonk on the top of a mediocre steak... they claimed to have "lost our reservation".. coincidentally the same thing that happened last year, and our server tended to her big party in the other room the entire time. read more

The wife and I come to Myrtle Beach at least once a year for a week, chestnut Hill is a location we always go to for at least on dinner and this year we went there on a Thursday evening with reservation at 6 PM. We had a friend with us and on arrival we were immediately seated. The food and service were as they are every time we go there, great food and terrific service. The Sunday buffet left nothing to want with an appetizer table complete with scotch salmon, ahi tuna and shrimp cocktail. Then came the entree potion with roast beef, chicken and succulent ham complete with accompanied sauces. The final touch was a desert table that included pies, tarts, cobbler and more.... From start to finish we had a fantastic meal today. Our waitress, Selena was so gracious and helpful in suggesting choices and we were not disappointed! Even ordering the small portion we still took home leftovers!! Seafood casserole and blackened salmon were our selections and served along with red mashed potatoes and fresh green beans and cauliflower were perfect. Salad before the meal along with biscuits and muffins and Selena even gave us a taste of their she crab soup to try in small cups that was flavorful. Couldn't wait for my ahimsa grade fresh tuna to arrive at my table. One bite and it was clear that the tuna was NOT fresh. Maybe it was fresh last month, but not tonight. The taste of ammonia was horrible. My husband's crab cake was more "cake" than crab. Our waitress was wonderful. Removed my tuna, brought me the lousy crab cake, but it was too late. What was supposed to be our "vacation farewell" meal was ruined. When I went up to the woman who was sitting behind the desk in the lobby to recommend that the chef remove tuna from rhe "fresh fish" boards, she told me she had nothing to do with it. My husband took me to Chesnut hill for my 40th birthday for a date night. We enjoyed a 5 course meal. We loved the starters we chose...Fried Green Tomatoes and Homemade chips. They also brought out cheddar biscuits, blueberry muffins and butter inside a basket. We enjoyed our salads immensely. He had the house and I chose the caesar. Hubby had the Shrimp Scampi provencal. He loved the portion, it had like 13 jumbo butterflied shrimp. The flavor was amazing he said. He didnt like it still had the tails on. It was difficult to remove them while eating. I had the 10 oz chicken breast done Parmesan. I didnt know it would have tomato sauce on it. I thought it would just have a parm breading. I made due. I liked the potatoes and the carrot- cauliflower medley that were included. The gave me a free dessert for my birthday which was so nice. We also had a very nice friendly waitress. I will add the place had plenty of room but we were seated right between 2 other tables...we felt kind of crammed in. I feel they should spread out the patrons some to help it feel more intimate. read more

Food was overpriced we were so excited for the crab legs they were waterlogged with NO taste we spent 170$ for 2 of us! The broiled scallops were Ok but the blackened ones had soo much gritty spice that you couldn't even taste the scallops and the lobster tail looks like it had been freezer burned and so over cooked it was dry!! We were a party of 8 (separate checks) so close to 700$ for whole table all of us left disgusted!! I do not recommend wasting your money or time here!!!! read more

Had gone there before and had excellent food. We decided to go back a few months later. A big disappointment in the food quality. The chef undercooked the bacon wrapped scallop appetizer. The veal dinner with shrimp and scallops was bland, scallops undercooked again, the vegetables had been boiled and resembled a plate of mush, the shrimp was OK and the veal was blend. Another meal of the petit fillet was cooked right but not real flavor to it (no spices used to cook it). On the flip side, the service was great and the ambience was nice. But at the end of the day you go there for the food and the meal was disappointing for all of us Sounds like a chef issue. read more

I had been here for dinner before a few years ago and was amused by the turtles and alligators, but had never been for brunch until yesterday. It was quite good......the only thing missing was the she-crab soup, which one of the servers told my sister-in-law that they haven't had on the buffet for months. But that's alright......they did a great job of filling my tummy with everything else. I especially liked the eggs Benedict, the macaroni & cheese, and the mashed sweet potatoes. The carved roast beef was a nice addition, as were the ribs. We had a large party of ten, and we arrived at 10:30 and it wasn't too crowded at that time, as I was afraid it might have been. They don't really take reservations, but they appreciate when people call to give them the heads up if you plan on bringing a large party. I expected to be fighting over the buffet with the Sunday church crowd. But I was wrong......no wait whatsoever for the buffet, and they did a great job of keeping everything filled and fresh. We got the perfect table overlooking the water. I didn't see any alligators, but plenty of turtles. I'll absolutely be back here. read more

Very nice restaurant with very good food. We sat next to a window so my daughter could watch the turtles while we were eating. I had the broiled seafood platter and my mom had the shrimp scampi over angel hair. Both were very good. The pasta dish was a little too lemony for me, but lemon lovers will like it. Ok I admit it was Mother's Day so Restaurant was very busy. It seemed to take awhile to get our drinks and food. Our waitress seemed particularly overwhelmed. Now on to the food. It was ok. I don't like that you cannot customize your sides. I ordered the fry shrimp which were very good. Nice size portion and I got the small order. However it comes with bland boiled potatoes and sautéed veggies. Both were bland and the potatoes were hard. I'm sure for the price you can find much better restaurants. We had a 5:30 reservation for three. We were seated promptly at a table overlooking the water. Waiter came immediately and took drink orders and brought muffins and cheese biscuits. I had small plate crab cake with mashed potatoes and veggie mix and a salad. I enjoyed mine. Hubs got steak and shrimp. Daughter got yellowfin tuna grilled. She said it was delicious. Went to Chestnut Hill on a recommendation from a family that comes to North Myrtle Beach every year and this is part of their tradition. It has an "older" and dressier feel, but most of the people were young and the dress was both T-shirts and casual. I would recommend a reservation and try to get a table by the window so that you can watch the water and the little dock with turtles on it. The food was good and the portions were large. They have a "small" version of most meals that would be plenty. This is a good place to eat nice with a group or a couple. I would come back! read more

We ate there last night. I wasn't excited as the rating was 4.0, but I was very pleased after we arrived. While some options were a little pricey, the food really was very good. The service was also very good. Their pre-dinner breads were awesome! I had scallops and my husband had the veal. Large portions, get your money's worth, and I did take home a slice of key lime pie which was very good also. We also sat overlooking a wetland area where I could see birds and turtles.
