Food was excellent. We had the Miso Mussels and Oysters Rockefeller to start, then the filet, the duck, and the special of the night, which was monkfish. My wife and I came here tonight looking for a nice place to celebrate our 15th anniversary. The restaurant is located in a shopping center and is small but nicely done. We decided to sit at the bar. The server greeted us promptly, took our drink order, and gave us time to look over the menu. When she returned with our drinks, she explained the specials. My wife ordered the boneless rib roast (I believe that's what it was called) along with the asparagus soup. I ordered the deconstructed Wellington, cooked medium rare. When we arrived, there was only one other table, though a few more couples came in shortly after. I will say up front -- don't be in a hurry. They appear to cook one table at a time. Many of the entrées are served under a smoked dome, which I assume is for presentation. While it looked nice, it didn't add any flavor. My filet and the mushroom-stuffed puff pastry with demi-glace were served with the smoke, but the mashed potatoes and asparagus came on a separate plate. I didn't really understand this, as there was plenty of room to plate everything together. My wife's beef was served on top of her mashed potatoes in a bowl. The asparagus soup was ok needed some more seasoning for sure kind of bland wouldn't get it again. Once we started eating, my wife noticed her mashed potatoes weren't very hot. I checked mine and found that even in the center they were only warm. I asked the server for additional demi-glace since what I had was cold. While waiting, I cut into my steak. I first tried using the butter knife, which didn't work, and had to switch to the steak knife. The meat was cooked great and was tender, but slightly tougher than expected. When the demi-glace arrived, it was still not warm, so I asked for it to be heated again. The second time it came back steaming, which helped warm up both the potatoes. Overall, the food was good, but temperature was the main issue. I could understand this if multiple tables were being served at once, but we were sitting at the bar watching the kitchen, and only one table's food was being prepared at a time. There were two people cooking -- one handling apps and salads, and the other working on the main courses. Perhaps if they worked together, food could come out faster and hotter. That said, we will be back. The food itself was good, and several other dishes we saw going out to other tables looked very good as well. And the desserts sounded good. The plates are beautifully curated, the service is top notch, prices are fair, yet the flavors get lost in the attempt of beautiful plating. We ordered the Seabass special. I got mine with the lemon keeper, quinoa and my dinner companion got hers with mashed potatoes. They were able to accommodate my companion's gluten-free requests which was refreshing. But sadly, both of our fish came uncooked in the center. Instead of a "re-fire" they reheated the same pieces of fish. Mine came back a tad under done and my friend's had a raw bite in the very center. They did give a $5 discount, but the experience just felt like another chore of the day after being on the road all day to get here. I will close with this though - I think the restaurant has great potential and worth another try. It's very lowkey, elegant, and beautiful plating. read more

Some what was a disappointment. We were celebrating our anniversary. Service was good (we were the only guests there during our entire dinner). Usually their bread they service is hot and chewy, however this time it was hard and all most burnt as if it was old and they tried to reheat it. I had the seafood Alfredo which was very good. My husband ordered the filet truffle which was not good at all. Tasted as if it was old or had freezer burn. It had a weird texture and taste. He ate it so he would not hurt my feelings since this was my choice as to where to eat. We had a beautiful presentation of complimentary piece of cake being it was our anniversary. It looked wonderful, but again the taste was off and you could not even taste chocolate, more like freezer burn and dry. Over all it was ok, but probably no need to return. I would give this restaurant 3.5-4 stars...it has a cozy atmosphere and we had great service. I would definitely not describe this as a "grill and bar". The menu is more elevated than what you usually see on a grill and bar menu. I think I can see what they want for restaurant...it just doesn't quite achieve it. We had the arancini appetizer, oyster Rockefeller, short ribs, and a seafood pasta. The food was cooked reasonably well, just not as good was it could be...and was lacking a bit in seasoning. The one peeve I had was the "greens" were cold, green leaf lettuce on both the Oysters Rockafeller and the short ribs special. That's just weird. Who likes warm lettuce?? I don't think we would go back with there being so many options in the area and us just popping through for sports with the kids, but if we lived here I could see giving them another chance on a date night. read more

42nd Street Bar and Grill is a quieter, more upscale (but not too fancy) option when you're ready for a relaxed dining option in Myrtle Beach. The restaurant felt calm, even with many of the tables filled. It made for a very pleasant dinner! We started with the Sweet Pepper Kabob appetizer, which featured large kabobs of filet mignon, peppers, and onions with a veal demi and onion straws. This was, undoubtedly, the best item of the night. The filet was tender and powerfully flavorful to the point that I personally found the demi entirely unnecessary. It's a must-get! I think it could even work as an entrée, depending on how hungry you are. For our entrées, I got the Seafood Pasta, which featured shrimp, scallops, and mussels on fettuccini with a parmesan cream sauce, and my companion got the Pan Seared Duck Breast, which came with a potato puree, brussel sprouts, cranberries, and a demi glaze. We both enjoyed them very much! I was particularly impressed with the lightness of the alfredo sauce. It can often be very heavy, but here it was a light coating that complemented the seafood without overpowering it. Our server was friendly and professional. She described the specials, answered our questions, and offered helpful recommendations. I had the miso mussels to start and my husband had the calamari. The mussels were beyond excellent, so good! My husband was not as impressed with the calamari, found it just average. He had salmon and I had seafood pasta. The seafood in the pasta was perfect, and the fettuccine was cooked just right, but the sauce could have been better, it was a bit bland. The salmon was a bit overcooked. I was hoping for a complimentary drink or dessert for my birthday, but nothing was offered.
