We're from Iowa stating across the street. After an exhausting day at the mall we decided on Chevys. I love the feel as soon as we walk in the door. The atmosphere is perfect. The establishment was family friendly and the host friendly and accommodating. The food was incredible! I can't rep these tortillas enough!! A fresh take on classics. A comprehensive children's menu amd added bonus, kids EAT FOR A DOLLAR ON WEDNESDAYS!!!! Was not expecting that awesome little detail. Our server Gina was attentive friendly and saw to every one of the kids demands (endless requests for extra cherries and refills) without twitching an eye. Her service stayed on point. There was an incident with a menu item. I am a die hard Arroz con Pollo fan. Incidentally it's a TOTALLY different thing in Iowa. I was expecting queso, rice, and, Cheese. That is NOT Minnesota's dish. When my food arrived I couldn't conceal my disappointment. The GM noticed right away. He swooped in and helped me to get the dish I was anticipating. He was so quick to work with me and his customer service was incredible! GM and server checked back after my accommodated meal came. I have not been this impressed with food and service in soooooo long! Pity I had to travel 300 miles to get it! A definite stop any future trips to Minneapolis!!!!!! Thank you. This is a favorite of ours for karaoke night, but it had been awhile since I had been here to eat. So, it was a pleasant surprise when my hubby suggested we meet here for lunch. I had a totally awesome steak fajita salad, fresh crisp greens, creamy avocado chunks, crunchy tortilla strips and pepitas, with well seasoned steak, peppers, and onions cooked to perfection, mixed together table side so that the cooked elements did not wilt the greens. We arrived into Minneapolis in the early evening and checked into our hotel near the Mall of America. We wanted to grab a bite to eat and saw the Chevy's nearby. It was late (nearly 8:30 pm) by the time we arrived and were seated. We decided to split a sampler plate. The chips & salsa came first - chips were light and tasty, salsa was smoky without much heat. Next came the sample plate - quesadillas, taquitos, wings, and nachos. The taquitos were homemade and tasted excellent. The rest were just ok. Service was ok - nothing special on the evening. Chevys is my favorite re-entry to MN after a business trip. My husband gathers me from the airport and we go to Chevys for a nice fresh meal and chat about our week. Service is always great and friendly, chips and salsa super fresh. My faves are the enchiladas, fajita salad, shrimp fajitas--just can't go wrong. Two stars because the manager was a nice guy. Without him, definitely one star. This was like being on Candid Camera. We scanned the menu QR code. It said ask the server for draft beer selections, so I did. She gave some choices, I made one, she brought a bottle. I said I ordered draft. She said let me get you a menu. I told her I had a menu. She brought a paper menu anyway. Guess what it said? "Ask server for selections". My wife asked for a margarita on the rocks with salt. I am not kidding: she brought a ramaken with takeout salt pockets. Also, she had no idea Tuesday was free kid's meal day. It's hard to believe an employee would have so little knowledge of the place that writes her paycheck. Food was below fast food quality. Went here for a friend's birthday last night and really enjoyed it! The food was really good and while chain restaurants get a bad rap, and honestly I'm not a person that typically goes to chains, my meal was wonderful. I had the crab and shrimp quesadilla and a entree salad (chicken, romaine, bacon, acocado...I'm forgetting the other ingredients) and both were wonderful. There was plenty left over to take home. Our server, Angel, was attentive and friendly. Also their complimentary salsa was delicious and unique...it has a smoky flavor that I really liked. We had plans to go to a different type of restaurant but it was booked for days. This restaurant was next to our hotel so we decided to try it and I'm so glad we did! Not only was the service great but the food was amazing too! From the chips and salsa, to the chicken fajitas, and finally dessert, we loved it all! My wife and I have come to Chevys 3 times and each time was horrible. The first trip, we went with friends. The service was so bad, we were refunded our money. The second trip, my wife and I were alone and they sat us down, brought us chips and salsa, with no beverages. No one came to check on us so we left. The third time, which was on the 3rd if June, the other day, it was the same damn thing. They sat us down, gave us those chops and salsa again with no beverages and no one came and checked on us so we left. This is the worst place to dine! I can't comment on the food, because we've never eaten there. To simply put it, Chevys Bloomington sucks! I wish I could give 0 stars. read more

I had the Chicken Grande Nachos which made me so sick. I should have known when they brought the platter, it didn't look right. All the chicken was dark (very dark) meat. After the first few bites the chicken tasted old and rotten. I stopped eating immediately but still got a horrible upset stomach. Gross and disappointing. read more

I admit. I do have a weakness for Mexican food. I always "forget" that afterwards, I nearly want to vomit and I pay for an upset stomach/food coma for the rest of the night. But it's always worth it. I was sad to see the Chevy's in downtown Mpls close, but not surprised. So every so often, we make the trek to Bloomington to eat at the only location left in Minnesota (!!!). Of course, who can go wrong with unlimited chips and salsa? The margaritas are decent but not strong. Maybe a bit too sweet, if you ask me. More tequila, por favor! I've always gotten the Pick Two combo for $10.99. The flautas and chimichangas are delicious. A recent complaint of my dining companion has been that they are now putting dark meat in the food which has turned him off from Chevys. But I dunno. I think I'd still go back. Expect to pay around $25 for a couple without drinks. Food comes out fast, service is good. read more

After flying into Minneapolis from Austin, my wife and I were cruising around outside the mall looking for someplace that had some decent vegetarian options on the menu. She remembered Chevy's from a eating at one previously, so we stopped in. We were both pleased with our meals. I had a fajita burrito and my wife had mushroom and asparagus fajitas. What bumped a good 3-star place up to 4-stars... 1) Free wi-fi 2) Delicious salsa. Wasn't spicy but it tasted awesome. 3) Apparently our meals took longer than they should have, although we didn't notice. There is a Chevys that I go to in Orlando. Thinking that the food would be the same, we came her for HH and some appetizers. Salsa was disgusting. We asked for no beans - they gave is EXTRA beans. Okay, I'm a little embarrassed to review a chain restaurant, but Chevy's was the first place I ever tried fish tacos and that remains one of my favorite dishes. Last weekend my husband, daughter and I came to this location for dinner following an afternoon at Nickelodeon Universe and had a really great customer service experience: We sat at our table for about 10 minutes, but a server never showed up. So, I went to the hostess and mentioned (nicely) that we had been waiting for a while but just as I said it, I looked back and -- lo and behold -- a server was at our table. I said, "Oh, nevermind, there she is!" and returned to the table. We ordered some drinks, then a second server showed up (so there seemed to be some confusion about who was supposed to be serving us). I was thinking we were in for a complete disaster experience, but a few minutes later the manager showed up, apologized for our wait and the ensuing confusion and said that our dinner would be free. Following that, we had one server who was very attentive and nice. I thought it was incredibly cool of them to do that; we only ended up having to pay for the one cocktail my husband ordered (but, don't worry, we tipped our great server on what the full bill would have been). Unfortunately, our fish tacos tasted a little too fishy but since that was my first sub-par fish taco experience with Chevy's and they were so nice, I'm willing to let it slide. They won me over with their customer service. And their tableside guacamole. read more

My wife and I stopped in the other night after some shopping in the area. She had never eaten at Chevys and thought it looked fun. I haven't set foot in a Chevys in ages, so I was up for it. The service was good, and our waitress recommended the shrimp and crab quesadillas. We took her suggestion and ordered just that with a few beverages. The Cadillac margarita was very tasty, and Chevys stocked all of the "south of the border" beers one would expect to find. Our food arrived, and just as our server had promised, the quesadilla platter was enormous. As I was chatting with my sweetheart while she ate her quesadillas, I noticed that she didn't seem thrilled with the quality. She began to peel apart the layers, and found completely different ingredients than what were listed on the menu. We're not "picky", and rarely take issue with our meals - but the delivery must match the menu. Our server politely took the dish away and checked with the kitchen only to discover that the cooks on staff preferred to make the quesadillas as they were served to us. I was a bit surprised by such a response from the kitchen since I could never agree with such a practice in a restaurant of any level. Though my wife and I don't have any food allergies, caution should always be taken and a plated dish should always reflect what is listed on the menu. We ordered a different shrimp dish after verifying the ingredients with our server, but were unfortunately let down by that dish as well. If we were ever to find ourselves in Chevys again, it certainly would not be for a meal. The food and preparation quality is (in my experience) severely lacking, but the saving grace here is the wonderland of mixed drinks and beers. Had the Dos Equis Shrimp Tacos, they where actually pretty good. First time I have been to one of these, had heard bad things about them but decided to give it a shot. Sat outside on the patio on a beautiful day but definitely not good because you have to listed to the light rail horn and planes flying overhead every few minutes. Quite annoying. Food was disappointing. Service was friendly, but a little slow. I had a chimichanga, which is my typical test item for a Mexican restaurant I've never been to. I mean, it's a deep fried burrito, so it's like trying a slice of cheese pizza or a burger. Hardly any meat, tortilla was tough, not crispy at all like something fried should be. Then they smothered it in fake nacho cheese sauce. Not that there's a "real" nacho cheese sauce, but you know...that Velveta cheese, or Elmer's glue stuff you get with chips at the gas station. I ended up just eating the filling out of the burrito, which was very sparse and consisted of ground taco meat and a few pinto beans. The side dishes were black beans and rice, which were just ok. Chips and salsa were good. All in all, it just isn't good Mexican food. More like a TV dinner. read more

Beer is good, but I am not much of a fan of the food. We were seated in the bar area, which is decorated with a bunch of beer memorabilia. They start you off with a basket of chips and salsa. The chips are delicious, however, the salsa is nasty! I ordered the taco dinner, so I had 2 soft and 1 ground beef. The soft shells ended up getting super soggy and ended up falling apart. On top of that, there was hardly any meet on the tacos. I'd recommend hitting up one of the more authentic choices in the area. read more

We had a large party of folks, +10 and found ourselves pulling together tables, sitting medieval style. It was later in the night and there were a few HH specials on tap and rail, I of course had to get a beer. Once everyone arrived we dove into dinner orders and I ended up getting the fajitas - why not?! I seriously love the smell of sizzling veggies on a hot plate - the aroma can't be matched - I got myself steak, and it came with a half dozen or so hot tortillas. Part of the fun is making your fajitas however you want and it came with salsas, fresh diced veggies, sour cream and guac. I love my food a bit spicy, so I sprinkled myself some hot sauce to top it off. I really couldn't complain about anything, okay beer and your average fajita tray. If you're really in a pinch, make your way to Chevy's; otherwise, there are far more stellar places nearby. read more

We used to come here for happy hour but no longer will. Their big house margaritas used to be $5. Now they are $9.99!!! ($12.99 - $3 for happy hour) what? A $10 house marg for happy hour? And NO beer specials at all!?!? So it's $5.99 for a XX tap. Apps are now all $8 on happy hour. Even the queso is $8! Do yourself a favor and go ANYWHERE ELSE. We left super mad feeling totally ripped off. $33 for an app, a tap beer and a margarita and tip at happy hour. Crazy. read more

The most worthless Mexican restaurant on the planet. Worst service of any restaurant in the area. They take, on average, ten minutes to greet you once you're seated. You have to ask three times for chips and salsa, or drink refills. They consistently get orders wrong. The food is ridiculously sub-par and incredibly overpriced. They use a lot of imitation Velveeta in their food. Their evening staff regularly appear drunk. I work across the street, will never set foot in this place again. I refuse to go out with co-workers if they plan on margaritas at this rat trap. Please drive two miles down the road to El Loro Grill. Infinitely better in every way. read more

Yikes. I can't believe I'm actually admitting to the fact that I absolutely love Chevy's. ;) There are a couple of things that make this place standout in my mind: 1. Amazing chips and salsa. I just can't get enough of their chips and salsa. I always order an extra salsa right off the bat as it is phenomenal. I could go to Chevy's and just eat chips and salsa 2. I always order the same thing: the 3-item combo. I get two enchiladas (one chicken, one cheese) and Fiery Hot Flautas*. The dish comes with rice and beans (I get black) as sides. * Chevy's Fiery Hot Flautas are nominated for one of my absolute favorite sides/appetizers around. They're drizzled with a mango-habanero sauce and have a jalapeno jelly dipping sauce to compliment. I've made the mistake of ordering flautas at other restaurants, and they've never (ever) even come close. Conclusion: The food is always super tasty for TexMex. However, you need to keep that in mind, it's _still_ TexMex. They do have a full bar which helps (I've had a couple margaritas here, but never been super impressed). The only shortcoming I have is that the rice is dry, but if you mix with the beans or cheese sauce, it's much better. read more

We've been going here every time we've been to Mall of America. Though it's located on the outer edge within sight of the mall, I always prefer Chevy's to mall food courts any day. They make the most awesome fresh tortillas and their fajita platter is enough to feed 2 people and still have some food left over. For the kids, the quesadillas are richer looking than what a grilled cheese looks like at some places. The festive atmosphere and Mexican divey decor makes it an excellent dining experience overall. And I can't say it enough - the little scoop of sweet corn meal is the ultimate item on the menu. Came here for a birthday dinner, as I had received a coupon in my email from joining their email club previously.... So glad I tried the restaurant. The food was good. I was skeptical at first because I did not see any "Mexican" dishes... Then I realized it was called "Fresh Mex" and readjusted my expectations. I had the combo plate with a cheese enchilada with meat sauce and a Chile relleno, double rice (because their beans are made with bacon fat). All the food was tasty. I was even treated to a sundae by the waiter. The food and atmosphere earned this place a 3.5 in my book. What really topped it up to a 5 star rating was the service that my waiter Ricky delivered! He was outstanding! Smiles all evening and wished me a happy birthday on more than one occasion. Drinks were never empty and he answered all my questions quickly with a smile. There is something special and a little different about the food at this place and it is good. First off Fresh Tortillas yum! Really good service. Very different interesting salsa that's very yummy. the main course we had some seafood enchiladas with a hot pepper sauce that was really good and not too spicy and then we had the mixed grill which was really delicious also. I'm surprised we ate all that food but it was a lot of food and they also had some grilled veggies that were really tasty and they have this corn bread that tastes like farina and it is so delicious I really want more than a teeny weeny scoop of that. So yes the place is looking dated and truthfully the bathrooms really need to be spruced up otherwise it a great place to try I highly recommend it. read more

First time here. The food was very good and reasonably priced. We had a wait for our food order as our server told us that someone hadn't turned up for their shift. This left only 2 servers for the room. Our server was friendly and attentive, in spite of having other patrons to attend. The fresh chips and salsa were good. First clue that it's going to be good: The tortillas and chips are made on site. The chips are so fresh that a light fry and an indistinguishable amount of salt is all that's needed. Second clue that it's going to be good: Cholula hot sauce on every table The masa garnish is wonderfully sweet. The vegetable side isn't overlooked. The veg = perfectly treated. I'll be back. Jorge is pretty hilarious and a very attentive bartender. Food? Over priced, bland for Mexican food, and unimpressive. I do love the salsa though!! We probably won't be back any time soon, but we appreciate Jorge.
