You may need to take this review with a grain of salt because the one and only time I visited Chevy's was on Cinco de Mayo, when the restaurant was busy and buzzing, and there were games and high tops outside for people to enjoy while they waited. The restaurant itself is surrounded by hotels and across the street from Mall of America, so it's clear that this place isn't going to be a hidden gem or mindblowing. But I was pleasantly surprised. We had decent service. I believe our server's name was Beny, and it was clear that he was working hard, rushing from table to table to keep things in order and customers happy. We had a large group, so there was a lot of keep track of for us. I consider our service to be pretty decent, especially considering how busy it was. I ordered a blended margarita ($7) and received one on the rocks the first time. I didn't want to wait another 10 minutes before receiving my drink, so I just drank it (and it was good!). Ordered another one and actually got a blended one. Much appreciated. I really enjoyed the San Antonio Chicken 'Dilla - more than I had expected! It had really great flavors and was a good substitute for a boring, basic quesadilla. Large portion for me, so I was able to share a piece to someone else in my party. The ambiance is very touristy. Colorful and festive; it reminded me of vacations in Mexico actually. Very loud here, especially on Cinco de Mayo. Lots of screaming children, which can be expected since it's right next to Minnesota's largest tourist destination. Verdict: Surprisingly good food, if you aren't searching for authentic Mexican food. Festive Cinco de Mayo vibes. Very touristy though. read more

I ordered queso and steak tacos to-go over the phone since their online ordering was down. I was not told the price over the phone and didn't think to ask. I go to pick up my order and I'm told it's $38! No wonder I couldn't find the menu prices online! My order was also incorrect (asked for no chipotle aioli but the tacos had it). I used to love this place..5 star love. Now ‍ not so much. They need to close it down for a few days and do some DEEP cleaning of the entire place. Everything is sticky and gross feeling. Their food used to be really good as well but even that has faltered. We went to Chevy's for the first time in a hot minute last week, and MAN we were impressed. We enjoyed our meal so much more than we were expecting! First, the chips and salsa are AMAZAING. The chips are made in house (warm and very thin and crispy) and the salsa is smoky and has the tiniest bit of kick to it that even my husband (the salsa Nazi) appreciated. He ordered the carnitas burrito and was impressed by the amount of meat inside. It wasn't the best flavor he's ever had in a carnitas, but good for a chain restaurant. I had the chicken fajitas, and could not have been more happy with my meal. I did ask for cheese because I remembered that isn't an 'automatic' there, and they complied without charging me extra. The tortillas served were obviously made from scratch. The rice and beans were very tasty (the rice was a little tomato-y for me, and the beans have bacon in them if that matters to you). The waitress gave us a free little mini fried ice cream desert when I presented my birthday coupon, and was SUPER friendly throughout our meal. I was so impressed! We got here right when they opened for lunch for a weekday. I may be bias, but free appetizer salsa was consistent and bomb as always. We ordered the Steak Fajitas and shared it among ourselves and it was the perfect amount of food for lunch. After more than fifteen years we went back here. The food was delicious. The service was courteous. The ambiance was spacious. We went there pretty late, around 8:00 pm. My wife ordered chilli rilleno and I ordered shrimp fajita, no tortilla, no rice with charro beans. My meal was huge! Much longer than wider plate! Took up half the length of the table. My wife's order was minuscule next to mine. We both thought the food tasted great. I was impressed with the variety of tastes in front of me. I remember coming here a long time ago and it being good. So when I had the chance to go back with a group or friends I went. It's still good! Those fresh made tortilla's are awesome! I gave the Fresh Fish Tacos a try. Those were really good. They were using salmon this day. Not bad. Not the normal fish taco, but it was good. I also love their fresh chips and dips. Those make great snacks that I could eat all night while sipping margaritas. Our server was awesome! I wish I could remember her name she deserves credit for putting up with a couple of the people that were with us that night. You just can't take some people out in public. SMH. Which was an improvement from when we first walked in. The host wanted to sit us at the bar, but we wanted a table. He seemed annoyed by that. The only thing he didn't do was walk by the table and throw the menus down. Service improved with the waiter. Manager kept cruising by to see if we were okay. Anyway, we ended up at Chevy's. Loved the ambiance of this place. Energetic and bright, clean and friendly. We decided IKEA would be better sober so we opted for no drinks. We started with chips and salsa...and dumped a bunch of hot sauce into it since it was so bland. I had to force myself to stop eating chips so I would have room to eat my chicken tacos. When food arrived I was so surprised to see how thick the flour tortillas were for my tacos. Way too bready...I peeled half of it off. My plate was covered in chunks of torn tortilla at the end of my meal. The tacos themselves were palatable. Mexican food has such good flavor-all that salt is just unnecessary. I drank two large glasses of water with my meal and would have had more had our waitress returned to fill our glasses. Erick had a smothered burrito that he appeared to enjoy a lot. While he said he liked my refried beans more than the pintos he ordered, his plate was clean in the end. In sum, it was fine. I realize (and you may too based on my reviews) that I'm a seriously picky eater. If I'm out eating a meal, I expect it to be better than what I can make at home. The cocktail was a bit of a lite pour which is typical of a chain and also not surprising for a female bartender. As an aside, she was very friendly and quick on the service. I knock off a star for the salsa which was probably the worst I have had outside of an old jar from my fridge. It may well have been fresh but the appearance, texture, and taste says "no, no, no."
