The parking lot is behind the restaurant and it's a bit confusing where to enter. The entrance is on the far left (east side) and you walk through the patio area to enter. As you enter, there is a large bar area and an open dining room next to it. It's open, airy with a festive ambience. Chevy's has a great happy hour!! My fish tacos were quite good and the margarita was better than average. You can't beat the drink specials and the food prices. Service was fairly good.

The few times this place has come up in conversation, people are always surprised that it still exists. "Chevys over by the Inner Belt? Yeah, I used to go to happy hour there back in the '70s." I'm exaggerating the dates, but only by a little bit. This place has been around for a while, and I don't know that it's been as popular as, say, the nearby Chick-fil-A for much of that time. I was there maybe a year ago, after having not been there since maybe the 1990s, and I remember finding it to be nicer and better than you'd think. I got the nachos appetizer, which was a weirdly generous serving--almost scandalously so (you could imagine it being featured in some listicle about extremely high-calorie chain restaurant menu items)--but also pretty expensive. Like, maybe they could just give you less of it and not charge quite as much. I noticed, on the way in today, signage for the aforementioned happy hour, and on the table there was an ad for the lunch special. Alas, I don't think you can get either of them on the weekend. There's some sort of Sunday brunch, but I'm not going to a Mexican restaurant to eat Eggs Benedict. But that might be the way to eat here, if you just have to: find some sort of discount. The food's not half bad, but they're charging like the kind of restaurant you take only the most high-class, most potentially, erm, appreciative of dates to. I toyed around with the idea of getting the burger, which I can always eat, but nothing about it struck me as particularly unique (supposedly, there's some sort of special sauce on it; of course there is), and what's the likelihood, really, that a Mexican restaurant would serve the best burger? So tacos it was. In that category, I was torn between the Birria, which is on trend, and cool because it comes with a cup of au jus to dip it into, like a French Dip, arguably the GOAT sandwich, and something called the Tacos Vampiros, or something to that effect. The latter is some sort of hot preparation, with guac on it. It looked especially tasty in a photo, and I noticed that you could upgrade your taco in various combos to a Vampiro for a truly obscene surcharge--more than you'd pay for the taco itself in most places. I figured, what the heck. I'd have a look. Whoever came up with this mess is a fast food genius on a par with the guy who came up with the Mexican Pizza at Taco Bell, the fact that you could never actually get a Mexican Pizza when it was on the menu notwithstanding. Whatever they put down inside it, in addition to the carne asada, it was legit hot, in a a-child-might-cry-if-you-gave-this-to-them sort of way, but the heat was offset by the cool, uh... creamy guac. The carne asada didn't have any identifiable char, and may very well have come from a bag, but it was tender and seemingly wasn't cooked beyond medium, i.e. ruined (with all due respect to the president). And I appreciated the way they melted shredded cheese inside the tortilla, which lent both flavor and structural integrity. Like I said, geniuses came up with this. Served alongside the tacos were rice, a tiny, condiment-size bowl of pinto beans and a tiny scoop of sweet corn something or other (not its actual name in Spanish). The beans, which had pico in them and were sprinkled with something along the lines of the grated, shelf stable Parmesan cheese that comes in a green can, and the corn substance, which functions as a sort of bread *and* a sort of dessert, were both delicious, and I wish they gave you more of them, given that they can't cost too much to make. I'd check to see how much it would cost to purchase an additional serving of the corn substance, or the beans, or perhaps an additional taco, but something tells me that to do so would require the kind of meeting with my accountant that might actually get physical. They weren't quite worth all that, but damn it if they weren't pretty good.

Chevys has always been one of my very favorite restaurants but I hadn't been in a while. We decided to go here after a team volunteer event- about 10 of us. We had the most attentive and lovely server- I don't remember her name but she was wonderful! We got our food in a timely manner- she made sure our drinks were always full and even asked us if we needed to-go drinks! Although, my carnitas bowl has been gone off the menu for a long time- I did order the carnitas dish which is pretty much like the carnitas bowl. Let me tell you- the same, tasty, delicious taste was there! I LOVED IT! It was ON POINT! YUM-O! Along with the chips and oh so yummy salsa- I am thankful for my Chevys!!!! Highly recommend!

We visited around 7 pm on a Sunday night. They had several tables in the restaurant, but it seemed quiet. Our booth felt secluded, which was perfect for us. It's easy to have a conversation but not feel forgotten. I had Nachos Grande and my friend had the Carne Asada Fries. My nachos were huge, plentiful 8n toppings, and the chicken was very juicy and delicious! A+ The carne asade fries were reported to be tasty, as well. The only complaint was that the portion seems so small for the price on the fries. The nachos were a great deal, though!

Came in for dinner with family. There was 14 of us in our party. We waited for a table for 30-35 minutes before being seated. They weren't busy, but seems like they were short staffed so they couldn't seat patrons at some tables. It was clean, there are only two benches to sit at while you wait. Our party sat in the back of the establishment. It was pretty dark as some of the lights on the ceiling weren't working, and we had to use our cell phone lights to read the menu. When asked about it, they stated they had to replace some of the lightbulbs. Our server was Justin. He was kind. He greeted us as soon as we were seated and took our drink orders. It took a while for him to come back and take our food order. Upon taking our food order, we waited about 20 -30 minutes before the food came to the table. Half of our table received their food and the remaining four didn't. Justin came to inform us that there was a hold up and the food would be out shortly. Two more orders eventually came out. My husband and I were the last to receive our food and everyone at our table were just about done eating. Justin came and informed my husband and I that our meal would be compensated. I ordered the chicken, carnita, steak and shrimp fajitas. There was so much food that i couldn't eat it all. The steak was tender, shrimp was delicious, chicken was juicy, but i didn't care for the carnitas. Overall the food and service was decent.

We celebrated Father's Day at Chevys. We made 4pm reservations because we thought it would be packed. More than 1/2 the tables were empty. I ordered the Grilled Fish Tacos and was underwhelmed. I had a slice of fish and a little bit of coleslaw. Filled about a third of the taco shell. The rice and beans were okay. This is t a $17 meal. Most everyone else was disappointed in their food as well. Two people got burritos and happy with the size and taste. Server was pleasant. I don't think we will be back.

Chevys Mexican Restaurant is a Mexican restaurant that I've never been to although Mexican is my go-to to food. I decided to give it a try, as soon as we were seated the waitress came over with chips and salsa dip, the salsa dip I did not like at all, we placed our dinner order my normal go to meal was not offered at the restaurant so I ordered an appetizer plate which consisted of flautas, quesadilla, chicken tenders and nachos it was a nice amount of food, I didn't really like the quesadilla it was kind of soggy, the rest of the food was good, we also ordered BBQ chicken wings and they were delicious. The restaurant has lots of seating both tables and a bar area, the outside area has lots of seating, a few TVs are outside too and it very well lit. The chicken wings and the outside area is a reason that I would give this restaurant another try.

A VERY disappointing experience. Came here on a weekday due to their late evening happy hour for some food and drinks. In the cantina the bartender was also the wait staff for the tables which became problematic as it caused a wait for those of us sitting at tables/the small booths around the restaurant. I ordered a margarita & the happy hour carne asada fries. When I received my order I realized they were tots not fries so I was confused. I hate to wait over 10 minutes for my server to come back over and asked him about it. He said they were out of fries so he hoped I didn't mind they did tots. If you don't have fries shouldn't you tell the patron who's paying for fries to make sure the switch is ok? In my case it was not because I do not like tots so he sent it back. The food was also lukewarm with big slices of 1 bell pepper on top and some onion, not uniform in any way for such a small serving dish. I asked to order to carne asada pizza and they said they couldn't make it because they didn't have the stuff for it. I did like the carne asada on the tots so I ordered the carne asada street tacos and was disappointed. The tacos were cold, had a lot of fat on the meat, and were not proportioned right to the shells. After already being disappointed I just ate the meat that didn't have a lot of fat and left the rest of the taco shell. Regarding service it was an issue to have bartenders also be the wait staff at the bar. Not only are they taking care of customers seated at the bar but making everyone's drinks including patrons outside. I believe that contributed to the problem of me getting cold food as it was probably sitting there because the bartenders hardly left the bar. Once I received my food I was waiter for my waiter and didn't see him. After waiting for my check for over 15 minutes I had to walk to the bar to ask for my check. The lone bartender also looked around for my waiter and couldn't find him. When she walked me back to see what table I was at through the window in the wall we saw him sitting and chatting with another server. This is completely unacceptable. I was unable to order another drink and had to wait over 25 minutes to actually pay my bill because my server walked off to go socialize while not even on break. I will not be coming back and would not recommend this place.

I know you will enjoy this place they do have where you can make reservation but never at this time are they needed unless that's just your thing Definitely come out and support this place and youll see, the decor is nice as well at 3pm in the cantina they have someone in the open cooking fresh tacos for happy hour

-0/10. Its a Saturday night we got there around 9pm there were a few folks outside and 2 tables took inside. We noticed it was empty and commented on that and the host says "thats cause we're about to close". We didn't know but the comment felt unwelcoming. Sat down waited a while to be asked about drinks. A couple more groups of folks. We order. I got the Carne Asada fries with no cheese, and no sour cream. That still meant I was supposed to get the onions, peppers, and alioli... well you see the pic. Dry pieces of steak very little amount of meant, mind you this was a $15 plate... My sister got $2 fries that had more fries than mine. Everyone at our table overall did enjoy the food or experience. Our first time here.

Overall, a decent place for chain-style Mexican food. Big serving sizes, but it can be on the pricier side! WAIT TIME: We were seated immediately for a 2pm lunch on a Saturday. It's a big space so seems like they're never too busy. FOOD: We each got a house margarita with added strawberry flavoring (I requested a Tajin rim on mine and they fulfilled it!). They were very sweet tasting, not much alcohol taste, and it wasn't very strong. Still refreshing though. For food, we split one of the specials (pork belly and carnitas fajitas) and the tacos vampiros (carne asada tacos on corn tortillas). They both came with sides of rice and beans (big portions!). The fajitas also came with four flour tortillas. The tacos were quite oily, which is my only complaint, but they did taste delicious. The carne asada with the melted cheese combo was excellent. The pork belly fajitas were unique; not my favorite choice but they did taste good. SERVICE: Our server was very attentive and gave us our time to look over the menu when we needed it. She also gave us recs - very kind and helpful! She brought us chips and salsa to start and refilled it because we were starving. Very thoughtful. AMBIANCE: It's a much larger place than I expected inside; they also have a nice patio for the warmer months. Some Mexican theme decor around the restaurant, it's a solid space. PRICE: It came out to $64 for the two dishes and two drinks. On the pricier side for a lunch, but as previously mentioned, portion sizes are quite large so you do get a lot for what you pay. Still, maybe a little on the pricier side for chain restaurant Mexican food.

It has been years, many years since I dined at Chevys Fresh Mex. Decided to try it out on a Friday for a late lunch. Not crowded inside or outside on the patio; we were given the option to dine inside or on the patio. We chose the patio, with the number of patrons at the restaurant I thought the service would be quick. We had to ask for refills, the silverware was not clean, asked for a fresh set. The best part of my experience was the margarita, not sure If I will be back anytime soon. The food is mediocre but if you are with a large party seeking sitting that will accommodate a large group this could be the place to dine. Not the food is not much to write home about. Good great but horrible service. Disappointed in service due to server never coming back to us after taking our order. Asking several times for a box. Had to grab our drinks from the bar. Had to ask for a manager but all servers were hanging out at the bar socializing. Even after we paid the cook tried giving us someone else's meal while we walked out. It's true folks the Fiesta is over at this location. I ordered 2 of the BARBACOA TACOS dinners. The description states Three beef barbacoa tacos on corn tortillas basted in New Mexico red chile sauce, topped with cilantro & onions. Served with rice, pickled onions, roasted tomatillo sauce & consommé with garbanzo beans. Great!! But is what you get: Three beef barbacoa tacos on BURNT corn tortillas Basted in New Mexico red chile sauce. Still trying to taste the Chile sauce on the 1 tablespoon of meat you receive. Topped with cilantro & onions. Got a sprinkle of that, thanks so much. Served with rice. Got it, lots of it, thanks. Pickled onions, gave up looking for those because there are none. Roasted tomatillo sauce. That would be a green sauce, I gave up looking for that too because there is none. Consommé with garbanzo beans. THE ONE THING THAT SOLD ME ON THIS WAS THE CONSOMME'. But yes you guessed it, 2 orders of the BARBACOA TACOS DINNERS, NOT A DROP OF CONSOMM'E. I have been coming here for years. I have not been here until everything opened up, per the pandemic. Came to visit last Friday night with my wife and just like the time before, it was great. Great food, amazing happy hour specials, and amazing drinks as always. Service and the aesthetic is always welcoming. My wife and I don't visit often because we live several hours away, however, we pass through from time to time to visit my wife's family and now make a visit to Chevys a part of our routine. I couldn't wait for dine in seating to open for Chevys tex mex. I enjoy the Americanized version of Mexican food. it possesses its own authentic taste. On today's visit, I ordered the taco vampiro platter. The Carna Asada corn tortilla taco was filled and grilled with cheese! Peppers infused the tortilla shell as well. The tacos are a bit spicy but definitely yummy and worth trying! The cilantro covered guacamole is a treat as well. I always enjoy a good batch of beings regardless of how they are prepared! So glad we decided to give this place a try. Been many years since I have been here and it's a clean, updated and extremely comfortable restaurant. They have an outdoor patio area, bar area and restaurant seating area. They have daily specials and the happy hour is from 3 pm till close Monday thru Saturday and all day Sunday.The bbq chicken quesadilla was delicious, chicken, grilled onions and peppers in a flour tortilla then drizzled with bbq sauce and cheese.Street tacos were very tasty and the perfect size for an appetizer.Definitely worth you stopping by and trying out and believe me you won't be disappointed. read more

Went to Chevy's for happy hour on a Friday. Awesome specials on apps, street tacos. Chevy s chips & salsa are the best. Really enjoyed house margaritas as well. Our server was Rico & he took great care of us. This location of Chevys is the best! Also check out the brunch on weekends. The steak & eggs entree & the farmers market omelet are great. Plus, there is usually not a wait unlike typical breakfast places for Sunday brunch. read more

Came in today around 11:30 for lunch and in the past Chevys has been really good. It has definitely gone downhill. Not only was our waitress not attentive at all (it was not busy) but the food was AWFUL. I ordered the BBQ chicken salad and it was drowning dressing making the lettuce soggy. It seems as though Chevys got a deal on mayonnaise. They also put this mayo concoction on another item that was ordered. Very gross. I took a couple bites and had to ask the waitress to take it off the check, which she should've offered and instead she rolled her eyes and had an attitude. With all the great Mexican restaurants in the area, I don't see this lasting much longer read more

Went for brunch on Father's Day. Our waiter was very stoic and wasn't engaged or accurate with the order. We ate outside, five of us. We all ordered the four course meal for $34. The orders were messed up and the chilaquiles were not good at all. Over easy egg orders were mixed up with hard orders of eggs. Avocados were left off. We were given dirty utensils. This was our 2nd time at this location. Our 1st time was a terrible experience (we were told they had a BIG party the night before, they didn't even have straws for us!) So to be fair, I wanted to give them another try, in case they were just overwhelmed the 1st time... but this next try wasn't much better. Our server was slow to refill drinks & chips ... my margarita had a strange aftertaste... my husband's food was cold .... my food was dry... everyone's rice was crunchy, dry & warm-ish. We arrived around 3:45... (maybe we came between shifts?) Not sure, but I feel like the problem with this location is everyone is here for a paycheck (well of course they are right?) What I mean is, there is nothing here that makes eating here enjoyable. The drinks are made and the food is cooked but no one seems to care (Poor management maybe?) The hostess was cheerful but the smiles end there we won't be back & I can't recommend coming here. read more

I don't understand the 3 star average review. This location has been a Chevy's for decades. We hadn't been there for probably 10 -12 years until tonight and we are both asking ourselves "why?". It was a really nice experience. I got the grilled chicken,shrimp, & vegetable fajitas, my spouse got the Tacos Vampiras. My fajitas were fresh, flavorful and served with warm, house made tortillas. The Tacos Vampiras were the best. Well prepared, great presentation, spicy, and flavorful. Our server, Luce, was friendly and attentive. The chips and salsa on the house are a great addition to the meal. Anyway, it wasn't really busy and I wanted to post this review to remind people to continue to support this awesome restaurant. Ordered delivery from Chevy's on Olive on May 31st. The chicken quesadilla had chicken in it that was clearly not cooked all the way. The nachos were cold and the cheese was not even melted. Also the chicken on the nachos was suspect. Both items were out put in the trash. I did contact Chevy's via email but I did not get a reply. Very disappointed. I would not suggest ordering this for delivery. read more

I see they had 3 stars for their ratings. I am going to give them 3 stars. 1. For the delicious unique salsa. It had a little bit of heat on it and was like no other I had. I couldn't stop eating it. And like no other restaurant for Mexican cuisine I have been to. The brought plenty of tortilla chips and salsa without me asking for it. I had the vegetarian enchiladas with artichokes and they were good. I may not get them again but nonetheless they were delicious. I wish they had a cheesy and tangy combo with those enchiladas. That is the only reason I see they don't have a higher rating. They don't have enough variety. If you love fish, I couldn't find it in the menus. They have shrimp, but not a good variety for pescatarians or vegetarians either and vegan is out. All I saw was 2 vegetarian dishes. You probably can put together anything and I am sure they will fix it, bit nice to see it in the menu nonetheless. They have a good choice of a few fine desserts and oh' boy...that ooey..gooey...brownie sundae was fire. They have their own parking lot, they have daily specials also. Tuesday is a good drinking day for adult beverages. I plan to go back, and try a 2nd vegetarian dishes, and more desserts too. read more

Who the HELL doesn't offer carry out on Mother's Day? Went to Chevys at 6:45 PM on Mother's Day, lots of open spots in the parking lot, I saw lots of open tables, one person at the bar. I asked the hostess if I can sit at the bar to place a carry out order. All three hostesses were very eager to tell me "oh, we aren't doing carry outs today" I asked why, and they said because it was Mother's Day. I looked around and I said it's just for two dinners. They said they were told by management that there was no carry outs allowed on Mother's Day. I drove in the pouring rain for this? Whatever, Chevys, it's your bottom line. Not worth the try. Food expensive and tasteless. I can understand the increase in prices as everything has gone up but that has nothing to do with crappy tasting food. Ordered Chicken Tortilla Soup, the broth had no flavor, no salt, the avocado that was supposed to come in the soup was never there, had to get up to get a manager to bring the avocado because the waitress was nowhere to be found. Also ordered Chipotle Chicken Enchiladas, nothing different from what anyone can do better at home; Fresh Mex Sampler: quesadilla and flautas were the only good items in it. I've been coming to this location for years, and I have NEVER had a bad experience. Today I had a pretty involved order which included two family packs among other items. The manager, Tyler, could not have been nicer and more helpful. The way he helped finish my order and carry it to the car was so accommodating that it truly made me feel like I was his most important customer. It is rare to find service that is so personalized and spectacular - it was such a pleasure to interact with him. And Mildred, who put together the majority of the order, did an outstanding job. Been coming to Chevys for 10 years, and It has tasted the exact same every time I've been here - always quality, hot, fresh, fast, tasty Tex mex. No frills. Really good lunch fajitas. sometimes I get in and out in less than 20 minutes, it's that fast - but still good despite the speed. We have been going to this restaurant for years but it had been a while since we ate there. Last night we went for our daughters birthday and it was quite possible the worst restaurant experience ever. We spent a total of 4 hours in the restaurant from entrance to exit. After we ordered the kitchen took almost 2 hours to bring us our food. When we received our meals the food tasted off, it was missing parts and anything that was meant to be fried was actually drowned in grease. The taco shells we so hard that we gave up try to eat. The food was cold and smelled bad according to one of my kids. But this didn't amount to the slow service and ambivalence and lack of attention to our table. We all left questioning if else should have at any of the food. The manager was great. When we asked to speak with him is customer service was wonderful. I could sense his frustration with the kitchen. He took the time to hear our concerns and then discounted our dinner. The manager has a difficult job but it seemed like he cared about the restaurant. read more

An old favorite from our west coast days . . . But there's far better food all over St.Louis. Slow to seat us even with reservation - the host guy was completely checked out. The restaurant is huge but can only seat a few at a time due to staffing shortage. Our server was wonderful and attentive. She was quick to get us new silverware since all three set ups were totally dirty. Our food was decent. It was a hot day and they were stingy with the A/C. I asked them to hold the melted cheese (because dairy and I are currently in a complicated relationship), and it was still one of the best gluten-free meals I've had in a long time. Fresh, satisfying, and packed with flavor. My husband ordered the Norteño tacos, which arrived piled high with toppings and absolutely loaded with flavor. And yes, they come with fries. I had never seen this combination before, but I can confirm it is life-changing. He enjoyed every bite. Before the main meal even arrived, we were hooked by the complimentary chips, salsa, and a bright green crema that came with a serious kick. Spicy enough to get your attention, but so good you keep going back for more. This is the kind of restaurant you almost don't want to tell people about because it feels like a secret. But places this good deserve to be celebrated. Authentic food, generous portions, warm service, and the unmistakable feeling that you've stumbled onto something special. Five stars without hesitation.

They have an array of beers available, including their own Brass Tap Lager, which is so yum! The best part was, they had a doggy menu! The inside is a little small, but the patio more than makes up for it! It's huge! It is at the corner of 170 and Olive so it can get a little noisy. We sat ourselves and staff came over right away with menus and to take our order. Very friendly and attentive staff. I can't recall the bartenders name that served us but he was really nice. I started with a white sangria which was good but I couldn't taste any wine. More like juice. Loaded menu with different options for everyone to enjoy. They also have a nice happy hour and a late night happy hour menu (each menu served during different times). We ordered food and it came out within a decent time. I enjoyed my buffalo chicken sliders and fries. My hubby did not care for his chicken sandwich. He said it looked nothing like the menu and missing the white sauce/cream like the picture. He also felt the fries could be a bit more crispy. While I did enjoy the fries, 1 minute longer would've made the fries even better. Maybe if we return, we should ask for crispy fries. Seems like a nice spot to connect with friends but hopefully their other non beer drinks taste better.

Craving Mexican Cuisine, Chevy's is the place to go. Took the family out to lunch and I was impressed. Even though they were short staffed, the staff on duty made it work. Our waitress (Debbie) went all out to make sure our visit was great. I believe she was the ONLY waitress working; however, you would have thought they had a full staff. The food was great and hot. I'm pretty sure that this happy hour states EVERY DAY, thus to me would include Sunday. So either don't have it in the table to advertise to your patrons especially after ordering off it. Not to mention a 13 min wait for a two too for just drinks. It has been a number of years since I have been to this location. It has gotten better with age, service was great [ Val] kept chips coming and iced tea filled. Food came out hot and garnished beautifully I had the fish tacos and they were delicious. Manager named Sally checked on our table several times to make sure everything was as ordered. I love Chevys, this is the only one around this area still, however was disapointed in my last visit only because they advertised happy hour on the table but didn't offer it. Also, it was not a busy time, but we seem to be waiting a long time for the attention of our waitress. Still love the place and food. Can't wait for patio season. read more

We came in for brunch for the first time, we were pleasantly surprised, the omelet I had was delicious, eggs were light and fluffy, pancakes with the cinnamon on them were amazing, we will definitely make this our brunch spot. Tip, put their salsa on your potatoes, it is amazing. read more
