We are very happy we found the Rec Room since we hadn't eaten all day. We flew into St. Louis for a few days and everywhere we tried to eat was already closed. We lucked out and saw the Rec Room which was still serving food. It's a cozy bar experience with great food. I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich which was full of thinly cut meat covered with peppers and mushrooms and covered with lots of cheese. I would definitely pick this bar for the atmosphere and the delicious food. We feel lucky we found the area Room and will be back soon. PS We thought it was so good we went back last night and had more delicious food. Two nights in a row.

They have a small menu, but what they make is what I call, "better than it has to be bar food." Meaning we didn't come in to the bar to drink, we came into eat. It's warm cozy spot with a great patio when the weather is nicer. Sometimes the bar tenders get a little overwhelmed but will make sure once you get service.

Elevated casual atmosphere that is super family friendly. We sat at a table in the main dining area, which also had a large bar with nice plush chairs. Service was 11/10 - seamless, well paced, and very friendly staff Food was 4.5/5 - pretzels, brat, schnitzel were all delicious, best schnitzel Ive had outside of Germany Sadly the apple strudel dessert fell flat (seemed like it was on day 3, soggy pastry and a bit chilled like it was pulled from the fridge and microwaved) Plenty of fun German and Austrian classics, amazing beer, full bar with tasty cocktails, winning atmosphere and excellent service. Freshly prepared, perfect balance of spices, etc and I always feel welcomed to the clean dining room though they seem to do a lot of take out too. The kabob as a sandwich said it came with fries and I cannot skip these fries when I come here. They are so good! The kabob was the perfect portion, wrapped with some onions and maybe other things in a pita. I enjoy the middle eastern music that typically plays in the restaurant. Because the place is rarely crowded it never feels loud. The folks who work here are friendly and genuinely want to know how the meal is, if you need anything. My filet au poivre and my husband's French dip were forgettable at best. My steak was overcooked (ordered medium rare and came out close to medium well). With such a lean cut of meat, the overcooking of it ruined it. The Au poivre sauce which likely had cognac needed to be cooked off as it was extremely bitey (and salty). There was no peppery flavor at all. My cocktail, on the other hand, was delicious and well made (old fashioned) and our server was efficient, helpful, and timely. Overall I enjoyed the atmosphere. I've had the crab cake before so I didn't get it this time, and it's as good as people say. It is huge and can be shared with at LEAST two people. I'd likely visit again but I'll probably stay away from these two entrees next time.

This was interesting…read more I've driven past this place countless times and figured I should give it a try. I got here at 9:30 and after standing at the door for a minute it was then I realized I could seat myself. The place is smaller than I imagined and due to limited seating, the only open option was an unbussed booth. I managed to wipe away the crumbs as best I could and then someone came and cleaned the table.. After that, the server came over, introduced herself and said she'd be right with me. When she did, I ordered the #2 from the breakfast basics with a small orange juice. Up until that point, everything was going fairly well. All of a sudden, I see this rush of people coming and going. Some walked in and stood there hoping someone would get up while they happened to be waiting, while others put their face to the glass to try and see in. Mind you, the booth I chose, which was the only one open, is right by the window. So not only do I have people hovering over my food, but then I feel the stares of people outside the window. It was uncomfortable and speaking of which, this can also be said about the booth seats. The saving grace was my food coming but unfortunately, my eggs didn't have any cheese like I requested. I informed the server and they were able to put some on. The stares and dirty booth were enough to make me hightail it out of there. But alas, no trip to the diner is complete without it being cash only! Thankfully, they have an atm inside but be prepared to incur a $4.00 fee. The food itself was pretty good; the atmosphere? Not so much.

We started with the Korean fried cauliflower and it was honestly some of the best I've ever had. The batter was light, fluffy, and crispy, and the gochujang sauce with the mayo was sweet and sticky in the best way. Since it's a butchery, we had to try the steaks. I ordered the 4oz filet Oscar style. The meat was tender and very well seasoned, the crab was fresh, and the homemade hollandaise really pulled it all together. My husband had the ribeye. It was a flavorful cut, a little fatty (as ribeye tends to be), but exactly what you'd expect from that cut. The steaks come with a twice-baked potato and vegetable (or you can swap for different vegetables). The potato was flavorful but fairly dense. We also did the bread service - it was good, but felt a bit pricey for the portion. We ended with the flourless chocolate torte, which was very rich and the perfect way to finish the meal - especially on Valentine's Day. Overall, the food was good and the menu is solid. The quality was there, but the portions, bread service and sides didn't fully meet expectations. That said, it was still a lovely experience and a great date-night spot.
