Sarom's is a local gem for a reason--great service and consistently delicious food keep people coming back. You really can't go wrong with the country fried steak or the chicken and waffles. On my most recent visit, I tried the classic frittata and was pleasantly surprised. It's definitely something I'd order again. I usually stop by for breakfast, so I haven't explored the lunch menu yet, but it's on my list for next time.
Yes, from opening day to just the other day, they made it up to five stars. Great service with delicious meals, I would most highly recommend Sarom's. My go to dish is their gumbo, it's tops in the sacramento area. Open for breakfast and lunch only, don't come for dinner.
I've been to Sarom's location in Sacramento and it's decent, so I decided to check out the Elk Grove location to see if there would be a difference in quality. I stopped in on my way from running errands on got hungry. I decided to order the catfish with eggs and grits. The service definitely could have been better, but it wasn't the worst. I get my grits first and they are cooked to perfection creamy and delicious, everyone cannot cook grits properly the cheese and butter set it off for me. My sunny side up eggs were tasty and the catfish was just okay. They were perfectly fried not dry, however someone over seasoned the catfish was it wasn't pleasant to eat at all, it was way too salty. Yuck! The restaurant had plenty of seating. It did take my server a while to check on me or even bring my check. I will give them another try, but the Sac location is a little bit better to me.
This is my 2nd time coming here for brunch and we had a party of 3. My BF ordered the 2 eggs with bacon and grits. The grits are awesome as my bf says. You can order turkey bacon as we did; but we didn't know it was extra till we saw the bill. I got the French toast combo which includes eggs and bacon. I wanted some country potatoes so I ordered a side. The Potatoes are wonderful. My daughter got the mini Mac and cheese meal wich was with fries. The fries great and the Mac n cheese she said it was ok, as the first time we came here it was better. The mini meal was perfect if you just want a little bit of food or for kids. The restraunt was busy on a Saturday afternoon as we had to wait a little bit but maybe like 5-10 min. Service was quick we new what we wanted and put our order in. This is great spot for breakfast and lunch. Often crowded but always enough chair for any party. Highly recommend
We were a party of three on a Sunday and we were able to get seated right away for lunch. We ordered the country fried steak which came with biscuits/gravy and mashed potatoes, fried chicken plate with 3 wings and collards greens and biscuit/gravy, and fried catfish and shrimp plate with coleslaw and fries. The country fried steak tasted good but it was nothing special. The potatoes were very plain and could have used more seasoning. Biscuit was a little dry by itself but very tasty with the gravy. Wings were light and crispy. The collard greens were perfectly cooked and had a bit of a spicy kick that I wasn't expecting. Very good though. The shrimp was okay. There were four small shrimps and it was nothing out of the ordinary. My favorite dish was the catfish and I would definitely order that again on my next visit. It came with tarter and spicy remoulade sauce but it wasn't needed because the fish was perfectly seasoned, crispy on the outside, tender and flaky on the inside. It was the perfect bite. Service was fast and efficient and they checked on our table several times.
Me and my friend ordered Country Fried Steak and the French Toast Combo. Country Fried Steak: 8.4/10 The sauce was quite flavorful and the steak itself wasn't too chewy or soft to eat. The mashed potatoes weren't too soft and had some good seasoning as well. However, I wished that the country fried steak was a bit more crisper and that there's a bit more seasoning in the steak. The biscuit was soft and it's not too dry. Overall, it's very solid and they gave good portions. The servers were really kind and had really great hospitality. There was a great ambiance since the restaurant was very clean and it gives a comforting vibe when you walk in. If I came here more often and tried the other dishes that they offer then I might give them 5 stars but overall it's a great brunch spot to eat at.
I've been to the south and their cooking is amazing. So, when I came here, I compared their dish to what I had in the south. I think it's edible but definitely was the California version. Would I go back? Probably not.
I've been here a few times but it's about time I write a review! This most recent time, I went on the weekend for brunch and it was busy. It probably took us about 20-30 minutes to be seated. Service was friendly. I ordered a catfish po boy and it came with fries. Overall, it was a good sandwich, but a bit on the saucy side. The fries were nicely crisped. We also got a mini potato pie to share which came out cold, but it was not bad. It is very similar to a pumpkin pie. Ambiance was a bit loud but expected. Restaurant is fairly clean. There's plenty of parking in this plaza. Overall, this is a solid brunch place for Elk Grove!
Came around 2pm on a Friday. Dining room was about 3/4 full maybe 6 tables or so being served. So kind of busy but people are coming in and out. Ordered the Country fried steak and Po Boy Chicken sandwich with upgraded sweet potato fries TO-GO. They did not tell us how long we could potentially be waiting... We waited 30 minutes to get our order. Cell reception sucks so you can't really play with your phone while waiting for your food which it made it more excruciating. Had to step outside. The worst part was when I got home. Sweet potatoes fries were super soggy so I had to air fry it. What's unforgivable was that on my Po boy, they gave me a tiny strip of burnt chicken!!! It was super dry too The tartar sauce on the sandwich was good so I give them that, and Country fried steak was decent... but when you mess up the one thing you should be good at and you make guest wait 30+ minutes for burnt food, that's something you can't overlook. We had the chance to try them when they were good but the quality has gone downhill while price has increased. I won't be coming back. Tip: call in advance to order or expect to wait a lifetime. Maybe ask if it would be faster to dine in? They close at 3pm too. Check your chicken before you go home. $16 for po boy not worth it. Don't upgrade to soggy sweet potatoes fries.

The 5th Star on this review is for the hospitality from the staff, one particular one stood more than the others and I believe his name was Varrak (forgive me if I butchered the name/sp). His customer service and our encounter with him put made it easy for an all 5 star rating. He gives you this sence that he is like the favorite cousin in the family What we ordered: Chicken fried steak and eggs with potatoes and biscuit with gravy and the hash brown bowl - recommend by our server for breakfast and we are glad we took his word. Both meals provided comfort like your mama or grandma made it with love in the kitchen. The gravy is made in house and its yummy!!! We will definitely be coming again to try the many items on the menu. We say Gumbo and Jambalaya at the near by table that made us questioning if coming back in a few hours is possible lol This restaurant is in a small shopping area with tons of parking. Limited business hours and most likely run and operated by family. Don't expect dashing presentation - this restaurant wont waist their time for all that, instead they will put all the love on everything that comes out of that kitchen and into your stomach. Be nice, be patient and support them genuinely.
Thank you to my fellow Yelpers for another spot-on recommendation!!! I came here with a group of five ladies to try their lunch specials, and everything was fantastic. The customer service was superb! Each meal was unique and bursting with flavor. My girlfriends and I enjoyed the food so much, we couldn't stop telling the owners how fabulous it was!! Its a wonderful, family-run business, and we will definitely be returning very soon.
A quaint place with hometown southern vibes. We got the fried catfish, gumbo with rice and an omelet and pancake. All thr food was amazing and full of flavor, they bring out your plates as they are ready which kind of makes it hard to eat together but thats minor compared to how amazing the food is. Big portions and flavor will keep you coming back.
Met a friend for breakfast today. She's been here before but it was my first visit. When you first walk in there is a desk with host and the dining room is to the right. It's a cozy place that feels very welcoming. We both ordered the New York steak. I had mine with an over easy egg, cheesy grits and a biscuit with country gravy. She had hers with scrambled eggs, country potatoes and biscuit & gravy. The food was really good. Steak was perfectly cooked (medium), the cheesy grits were delicious and so was the biscuits & gravy. I will definitely be back to try more of the menu items. Our server was also awesome. He checked on us often and made sure to top of our coffee.

Was looking for a good waffle spot and a friend recommended Sarom's. Omg the waffle and the wings were amazing! The restaurant is pretty big with plenty of seatings to enjoy your meal. Service was awesome. The waiter was very attentive. I ordered the chicken and waffle and omg that has to be a must at this place! The waffle was crispy and soft at the same time. Their butter and syrup went so well with it! The chicken wings were crispy and juicy! I also added a side of country gravy to dip with my chicken and that was an omg moment! Must try I highly recommend their chicken waffles! I will be back to try other items! read more
Service: 4.2 fast, efficient Food: 4.2 home style cooking Always BUSY on a Sunday! So I wasn't surprised about the wait, but they try the best to get you in within the wait time given. Once seated, our drink order was taken then our food order when the drinks were delivered (efficient). A few minutes later...poof our food arrived and we were chomping down our food! My wife ordered the simple 1-egg breakfast and I got their country fried steak (since that's my wife's go-to and knew she would steal a few bites). Everything was prepared well and was tasty, so no complaints here. Coming here we can enjoy a nice meal and have great service too! read more
Food is delicious!! , portions are good too specially for the price!!, the service is good , they are attentive but do seem to rush you a bit, ambiance feels nice, they got the old hits playing at all times so you are vibing as you eat. First time eating at Sarom's Southern Kitchen and we were impressed with the service, the music, the comfortable seating but most of all the delicious meals we had. I chose Sarom's special omelette with country potatoes and a biscuit with gravy. She had waffles and scrambled eggs with sausage. The omelette was very tasty as were the potatoes. The portions were too big to eat at one sitting so half the potatoes came home with us, plus a sausage and half of the waffles. The staff were friendly and attentive but not clingy. We are looking forward to returning and trying new things. read more
This place lives up to all of the stellar Yelp reviews! The biscuit and gravy was straight up comfort food. You can order the gravy on the side to control how much is on your biscuit and so that the biscuit doesn't get all mushy. The Country Fried Steak was crispy and tender. The friend shrimp was good but nothing unique. The Chicken wings were lightly battered and cooked well. The stand out to me was the Fried fish. Buttery deliciousness, tender and crispy. Perfect. For me, the can't miss items were the biscuit and gravy and also the fried fish. Service was friendly and efficient. read more

There was no wait time. The dinning area was improved from my last visit, with more booths. The atmosphere was relaxing. Our server Nick was accommodating with great enthusiasm. We ordered two eggs over medium with Catfish, sourdough bread and cheese grits also, ordered Scrambled eggs, pancakes with turkey sausage. The food was served heat hot with lots of flavor. After an early day of traffic court, this place HIT THE SPOT! We usually have a soul food spot we go to, but they weren't open yet, so we stumbled across this place on yelp. Definitely a mom and pop restaurant and the atmosphere here is super at home. We spent $66 in total here and it was worth it. Definitely have options in portions and of course we ordered large - LOL! Shrimp & Grits large: 10/10 the texture of the grits and the gravy with shrimp, sausage and bell peppers was perfect. I will say you will have to season it yourself with salt and pepper, which made it a hit with us because we picked it clean. Chicken & Waffles: 10/10 you have the options between the breast and thigh or 4 pieces of chicken wings. Of course we chose the chicken wings and it came with 2 waffle pieces. The chicken was cooked PERFECTLY, fall off the bone when you tore them apart. And the waffle was soaking up the syrup. Fluffy and super light. A MUST GET! In mine and husband opinion, it was the BEST fried chicken we have ate at any restaurant. Sides: Sausage, Sunny side up egg (not pictured) and Mac and Cheese. All my husbands choices. I only ate the mac and cheese, I wasn't too much of a fan of it because all the sauce was at the bottom of the bowl and it's not what I'm use to, but my husband loved it and I still ate it too - LOL! Overall: 10/10 Service was great, food was GOOD ASF and the atmosphere here is 1 of 1. Definitely WILL BE BACK to try more off the menu when I'm in Elk Grove/SAC area. Decided to stop by for a quick breakfast and seen this spot near by. It looks like a family run business. We were seated promptly. We were given time to look over the menu. We were in a rush so we placed our order right away. I was happy that our food came out rather promptly. I would say it was like 5 minutes. It was a bit difficult to get their attention to ask for silverware. So you can imagine us waiting with our food, not being able to eat. Now for the food.i ordered the special, 1 pancake with 2 wings $14. My pancake was amazing! Wings were over cooked which made it dry. I tried the potatoes and They were a bit too salty for my liking. My husband said The omelette was too greasy considering he ordered a "healthy" one. Overall nice servers, fast service just a bit greasy. read more

Their jambalaya and corn bread is 10/10! This is always my go to when I'm here. The shrimp is pan fried in a way that adds extra flavor, and they have a good balance of spiciness, flavor, and plenty of fillings. The customers service here is always good, and the workers are kind, efficient, and always checking in. Parking is very easy, and on a Saturday afternoon, we fortunately had no wait, so we were seated promptly. This is my go to spot for southern food! read more

Food: The menu featured many options from southern breakfast favorites such as shrimp (or catfish) and grits and omlettes to chicken and waffles and lunch options like southern fried chicken salad and Po'Boy Sandwiches. They even had daily specials. The portion size was excellent. With most entrees priced between $14-20. I had the Hot and Spicy Chicken and Waffles which came with two large waffles and a hot and spicy chicken breast or 4 chicken wings. I had the breast. The chicken was well seasoned and fried in a spicy hot oil that flavored the chicken all the way through. My only complaint was the breast was split prior to frying which makes it not as juicy but on the opposite side allows it to cook faster and more evenly. I couldnt leave without trying the collard greens which I promptly doused with Red Rooster Hot sauce. They greens were perfectly seasoned once the hot sauce was applied lol. The waffle was kinda like an Ego waffle in that it was soft in texture as opposed to being crispy on the outside yet tender on the inside. My husband had the Monica's Favorite 3 egg omlette with grilled chicken breast, bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes and cheddar and jack cheese topped with sour cream, pico de gallo and green onions with a side of creamy cheese grits and biscuits. My husband loved the omlette. I tried his grits and they were great. I'm from the south where grits are a breakfast mainstay and they better be creamy. They didnt disappoint they were creamy buttery and delicious. Ambiance: This restaurant serves down home old school diner. The kinda place that is not long on decor yet comfy and serving home cooked goodness with plenty of seating. Service: The service was great. We were quickly seated and our waiter was knowledgable and pleasant. I think my waiter was the owner because I complimented him on the grits and told him as a country girl that means a lot. He smiled and shared with me his mother was from Oklahoma and she taught him to cook them. Parking: The restaurant is located in a strip mall with adequate parking . Overall: If you are in the area and love a down home southern style breakfast or lunch then this place is for you. read more
I came here craving Southern food. I'd been to the Sacramento location so had an idea what I was in for. The Restaurant is also in a strip mall and looks very casual and cozy inside. The front server was very friendly and recommended their many specialties. I went with the small portion of shrimp and grits, house salad, and cornbread. Everything tasted comforting. I ordered a pecan pie to go and was given a complimentary sweet potato pie. Both desserts tasted very good as well. read more

Love this place! This time we had a Ham & Cheese omelette with hash browns & sour dough toast. Hubby had the chicken & waffles. He said the waffle was ok & chicken was juicy. Service is great. Nice restaurant. Always busy! read more
