Came around 2pm on a Friday. Dining room was about 3/4 full maybe 6 tables or so being served. So kind of busy but people are coming in and out. Ordered the Country fried steak and Po Boy Chicken sandwich with upgraded sweet potato fries TO-GO. They did not tell us how long we could potentially be waiting... We waited 30 minutes to get our order. Cell reception sucks so you can't really play with your phone while waiting for your food which it made it more excruciating. Had to step outside. The worst part was when I got home. Sweet potatoes fries were super soggy so I had to air fry it. What's unforgivable was that on my Po boy, they gave me a tiny strip of burnt chicken!!! It was super dry too The tartar sauce on the sandwich was good so I give them that, and Country fried steak was decent... but when you mess up the one thing you should be good at and you make guest wait 30+ minutes for burnt food, that's something you can't overlook. We had the chance to try them when they were good but the quality has gone downhill while price has increased. I won't be coming back. Tip: call in advance to order or expect to wait a lifetime. Maybe ask if it would be faster to dine in? They close at 3pm too. Check your chicken before you go home. $16 for po boy not worth it. Don't upgrade to soggy sweet potatoes fries. read more

This is my 2nd time coming here for brunch and we had a party of 3. My BF ordered the 2 eggs with bacon and grits. The grits are awesome as my bf says. You can order turkey bacon as we did; but we didn't know it was extra till we saw the bill. I got the French toast combo which includes eggs and bacon. I wanted some country potatoes so I ordered a side. The Potatoes are wonderful. My daughter got the mini Mac and cheese meal wich was with fries. The fries great and the Mac n cheese she said it was ok, as the first time we came here it was better. The mini meal was perfect if you just want a little bit of food or for kids. The restraunt was busy on a Saturday afternoon as we had to wait a little bit but maybe like 5-10 min. Service was quick we new what we wanted and put our order in. I've been to Sarom's location in Sacramento and it's decent, so I decided to check out the Elk Grove location to see if there would be a difference in quality. I stopped in on my way from running errands on got hungry. I decided to order the catfish with eggs and grits. The service definitely could have been better, but it wasn't the worst. I get my grits first and they are cooked to perfection creamy and delicious, everyone cannot cook grits properly the cheese and butter set it off for me. My sunny side up eggs were tasty and the catfish was just okay. They were perfectly fried not dry, however someone over seasoned the catfish was it wasn't pleasant to eat at all, it was way too salty. Yuck! The restaurant had plenty of seating. It did take my server a while to check on me or even bring my check. I will give them another try, but the Sac location is a little bit better to me. read more

We were a party of three on a Sunday and we were able to get seated right away for lunch. We ordered the country fried steak which came with biscuits/gravy and mashed potatoes, fried chicken plate with 3 wings and collards greens and biscuit/gravy, and fried catfish and shrimp plate with coleslaw and fries. The country fried steak tasted good but it was nothing special. The potatoes were very plain and could have used more seasoning. Biscuit was a little dry by itself but very tasty with the gravy. Wings were light and crispy. The collard greens were perfectly cooked and had a bit of a spicy kick that I wasn't expecting. Very good though. The shrimp was okay. There were four small shrimps and it was nothing out of the ordinary. My favorite dish was the catfish and I would definitely order that again on my next visit. It came with tarter and spicy remoulade sauce but it wasn't needed because the fish was perfectly seasoned, crispy on the outside, tender and flaky on the inside. It was the perfect bite. Food: 4.0 Service: 4.4 Sunday brunch after church so we drove to a restaurant we haven't tried in EG but their wait was out the door and wifey is diabetic so I never want her to have an excessive wait; so we name three other places we've frequented and off we went but I decided to call an audible and Sarom's it is! We walked in and was greeted by a staff member and some friends waiting for a table. We actually got seated at the same time as our friends. They took our drink order while we looked over their menu and my wife was torn between lunch or breakfast; I was ready to have their pancake combo then wife orders their breakfast version of country fried steak (BTW that's her go-to, LOL). Food comes out fast but even during our wait our coffee cups were never empty. Our food was delicious even though I thought my sausage links were going to be overcooked but I was wrong it had a nice snap and juicy inside. I ate my toast, sausage, and eggs before tackling the pancakes which stayed hot & fluffy. My wife's food slowly disappeared and left a smile on her face! Glad I made that audible call! I've been here a few times but it's about time I write a review! This most recent time, I went on the weekend for brunch and it was busy. It probably took us about 20-30 minutes to be seated. Service was friendly. I ordered a catfish po boy and it came with fries. Overall, it was a good sandwich, but a bit on the saucy side. The fries were nicely crisped. We also got a mini potato pie to share which came out cold, but it was not bad. It is very similar to a pumpkin pie. Ambiance was a bit loud but expected. Restaurant is fairly clean. Why have I waited to try this place? Yah, I don't have an answer either lol Came in on a Sunday after church and the place was packed however the wait was not long as folks were finishing up when we arrived. The 5th Star on this review is for the hospitality from the staff, one particular one stood more than the others and I believe his name was Varrak (forgive me if I butchered the name/sp). His customer service and our encounter with him put made it easy for an all 5 star rating. He gives you this sence that he is like the favorite cousin in the family What we ordered: Chicken fried steak and eggs with potatoes and biscuit with gravy and the hash brown bowl - recommend by our server for breakfast and we are glad we took his word. Both meals provided comfort like your mama or grandma made it with love in the kitchen. The gravy is made in house and its yummy!!! We will definitely be coming again to try the many items on the menu. We say Gumbo and Jambalaya at the near by table that made us questioning if coming back in a few hours is possible lol This restaurant is in a small shopping area with tons of parking. Limited business hours and most likely run and operated by family. Met a friend for breakfast today. She's been here before but it was my first visit. When you first walk in there is a desk with host and the dining room is to the right. It's a cozy place that feels very welcoming. We both ordered the New York steak. I had mine with an over easy egg, cheesy grits and a biscuit with country gravy. She had hers with scrambled eggs, country potatoes and biscuit & gravy. The food was really good. Steak was perfectly cooked (medium), the cheesy grits were delicious and so was the biscuits & gravy. This place lives up to all of the stellar Yelp reviews! The biscuit and gravy was straight up comfort food. You can order the gravy on the side to control how much is on your biscuit and so that the biscuit doesn't get all mushy. The Country Fried Steak was crispy and tender. The friend shrimp was good but nothing unique. The Chicken wings were lightly battered and cooked well. The stand out to me was the Fried fish. Buttery deliciousness, tender and crispy. Perfect. We've been to Sarom's original location plenty of times and loved the food, so we thought we'd finally check out the one in Elk Grove, hoping we would get the same delicious experience. Well, after our visit, I've decided that we'll stick with this one! First off, parking is much easier to come by since it's a big, shared strip mall parking lot. Secondly, the wait was only 15-20 minutes for a busy Saturday, not the usual 45 minutes to an hour at the other one. Two plusses just for convenience! Service was good. They came around with the coffee pot and also filled all of our requests right away. I wouldn't say they went out of their way to chit chat or were very personable, but they were being efficient and polite, which I definitely appreciate. Food came out in a timely manner, although served one entree at a time and there were only 2! Food was fantastic. My husband got the large shrimp & grits (always get the large, only $1 difference) and a side of eggs. I got the fried chicken (2 wings) and pancake, with a side of the country sausage gravy. Top 3 gravies in town! Pancake was fluffy and filled me up. Wings were crispy and seasoned. The shrimp & grits are the best! After an early day of traffic court, this place HIT THE SPOT! We usually have a soul food spot we go to, but they weren't open yet, so we stumbled across this place on yelp. Definitely a mom and pop restaurant and the atmosphere here is super at home. We spent $66 in total here and it was worth it. Definitely have options in portions and of course we ordered large - LOL! Shrimp & Grits large: 10/10 the texture of the grits and the gravy with shrimp, sausage and bell peppers was perfect. I will say you will have to season it yourself with salt and pepper, which made it a hit with us because we picked it clean. Chicken & Waffles: 10/10 you have the options between the breast and thigh or 4 pieces of chicken wings. Of course we chose the chicken wings and it came with 2 waffle pieces. The chicken was cooked PERFECTLY, fall off the bone when you tore them apart. And the waffle was soaking up the syrup. Fluffy and super light. A MUST GET! In mine and husband opinion, it was the BEST fried chicken we have ate at any restaurant. Sides: Sausage, Sunny side up egg (not pictured) and Mac and Cheese. All my husbands choices. We were in a rush so we placed our order right away. I was happy that our food came out rather promptly. I would say it was like 5 minutes. This place is so good!!! I've always wanted to try this place and it's so worth trying. I walked in with my partner and we were quickly sat at a booth. The vibes are very old-school and outdated but it was comforting at the same time. We ordered the gumbo, the shrimp grits, and a side of corn bread, everything was super yummy and I definitely recommend it for anyone's first time. It was Saturday morning, brunch time. My friend had been here before but it was my first time. This place was a welcome little treat! They serve breakfast all day so I was juiced. Kinda divey, but they greeted us promptly, seated us quickly and the food came out even faster! It was delicious, too. Super reasonable prices, like, I'd expect to pay at least 10% more for this quality, maybe 15! I didn't even eat my omelette because I'd gotten a side of corned beef hash and it came with grits and a biscuit with gravy! Portions are fantastic. At the omelette this morning and it was delicious! Definitely going back with the family. My husband LOVES southern food and they had gumbo and jambalaya on the menu. Food: The menu featured many options from southern breakfast favorites such as shrimp (or catfish) and grits and omlettes to chicken and waffles and lunch options like southern fried chicken salad and Po'Boy Sandwiches. They even had daily specials. The portion size was excellent. With most entrees priced between $14-20. I had the Hot and Spicy Chicken and Waffles which came with two large waffles and a hot and spicy chicken breast or 4 chicken wings. I had the breast. The chicken was well seasoned and fried in a spicy hot oil that flavored the chicken all the way through. My only complaint was the breast was split prior to frying which makes it not as juicy but on the opposite side allows it to cook faster and more evenly. I couldnt leave without trying the collard greens which I promptly doused with Red Rooster Hot sauce. They greens were perfectly seasoned once the hot sauce was applied lol. The waffle was kinda like an Ego waffle in that it was soft in texture as opposed to being crispy on the outside yet tender on the inside. My husband had the Monica's Favorite 3 egg omlette with grilled chicken breast, bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes and cheddar and jack cheese topped with sour cream, pico de gallo and green onions with a side of creamy cheese grits and biscuits. My husband loved the omlette. I tried his grits and they were great. I'm from the south where grits are a breakfast mainstay and they better be creamy. They didnt disappoint they were creamy buttery and delicious. Ambiance: This restaurant serves down home old school diner. The kinda place that is not long on decor yet comfy and serving home cooked goodness with plenty of seating. Service: The service was great. We were quickly seated and our waiter was knowledgable and pleasant. I think my waiter was the owner because I complimented him on the grits and told him as a country girl that means a lot. He smiled and shared with me his mother was from Oklahoma and she taught him to cook them. Parking: The restaurant is located in a strip mall with adequate parking . Hey there Party People, Hubby and i were on the road again and landed in Elk Grove for Breakfast. We were lucky to stumble upon this small breakfast joint that was really good. It had this nice family vibe when you came in. The staff was excellent super friendly and quick. I had the Chicken & waffles. The chicken was nice and spicy without burning a hole in your stomach. The waffles had this amazing sweet vanilla flavor you didn't even need syrup. My hubby got the Shrimp Po-Boy sandwich. He enjoyed it but thought the shrimp were tough. The flavor was there but the serving size was a bit small. The biscuits and gravy were stellar. The gravy was a just the right amount of creamy and the biscuits were so soft just perfect.
