    Chez Henry's French entrees
    Kim P.

I've been to Henry's before it became Chez Henry's. The restaurant has been somewhat remodeled, and the menu has clearly been revamped with an assortment of French items. They also offer daily dinner specials as well as a full sunset menu. I went with some friends for dinner. After being seated for a while, the server eventually flew by telling us she'd stop at our table soon. She seemed harried and throughout the evening continued to occasionally, but not frequently enough, stop at our table. While she was pleasant and accommodating, the timeliness of service could have been better. A couple of people ordered the French onion soup. It looked delicious and our expectations were high. Unfortunately, the soup was so salty that neither of the diners could eat it. The server said that no one else had complained about the soup, but she did remove the offending items from the bill. A couple of us had the cobb salad, which consisted of a good-sized portion of chicken and a nice selection of typical cobb salad ingredients. I asked for the balsamic vinaigrette dressing in lieu of the red wine Dijon vinaigrette. I also asked for feta cheese instead of blue cheese. No problem. I enjoyed the salad, and the dressing was excellent. One person had the roasted beet salad with quinoa, greens, tomatoes, goat cheese and candied walnuts. It was a similarly large size salad and quite tasty. Another person who had a side salad was dissatisfied with the lack of freshness of the tomatoes and some of the greens. The server kindly offered to replace it with the cobb salad, which seemed to have fresher ingredients. And she comp'd the salad as she had done with the salty soups. We appreciated her focus on customer service. One person in the group had the grilled salmon dinner with a honey mustard glaze. She had broccoli and green beans for her sides and enjoyed them both. The salmon was delicious and the portion size was large enough to warrant a take-home meal. The star of the evening was the fresh baked dark bread. It was warm and quite flavorful. We thoroughly enjoyed it while we waited for our dinners to arrive. Overall, it was a decent meal with some good and some less-than-good items. Service quality was excellent although service speed was less so. Would I come back? Probably, but not immediately.

Today we had our Women's luncheon from Valencia Sound Shoreline section here. It's been a very long time since we had frequented and now it's under new management. It was lovely! The decor is simple and elegant. We were 60+ ladies sitting at tables. We had a wonderful lunch with many select options. First, we had a beverage, then an entree which included a side. I had a delicious quiche and the soup of the day which was vegetable soup. Everything was hot, seasoned properly and delicious. All for $24 cash. A great deal! Service was excellent as well. A perfect place for a luncheon.

I was excited to try this restaurant it closed down for a week to update. They did a little refreshing. Nothing that made me go. OMG food was basically the same basic OK food we had the coq au van which we had a couple months ago same tasteless not like you know about coq au vin. in France Also, I ordered a vegetable salad with shrimp. It was a bunch of chopped up lettuce, and carrots. Where are the vegetables very disappointing We had the 31.95 which is good all night not the early bird dinner came with soup and the coq un van and a small dessert of some kind of crumble with ice cream. Everything was just OK. It seems like this place is good for the old world type of people that enjoy food of basic really wasn't French at all to me

Coq Au Vin was a little hammered.

My wife and I have driven by this place for years. We read some reviews and decided to give it a try for our anniversary. We were not impressed. Food was not good. I had the Coq Au Vin and my wife had the scallops. The Coq Au Vin was burnt. Tasted like it had been reheated too many times. The scallops were mushy like they were frozen and reheated. We both also had a nasty cigarette like aftertaste for about a day afterwards. Outside of the food, service was great. Ambiance was nice but a bit dated. It was worth a try, but I doubt we'll be back.

On the fence between a 3/4 star but we give a 3. First service was excellent and food delivery to table relatively quick. Onion soup looked great but lacked any real taste so needed a lot of pepper. Tuna tasted good but the chips were cheap and poor quality. The hamburger was juicy but also rather bland. We would try it again

The husband-and-wife owners are clearly hands-on... stopping by tables, checking in with guests, and keeping a watchful eye on everything. It's obvious they care and truly want you to have a great time here. I called for a reservation and it was basically sold out... when they said they could take me at 5pm, I grabbed it. Was actually perfect as I was heading over to see the tennis tournament after dinner. On arrival, the place was empty. As expected, when we left, it was completely full. A half bottle of Sonoma-Cutrer Chardonnay was perfect with my lobster. The wine list isn't extensive, but it's well chosen and fairly priced. The food was excellent across the board. A special of Scallops, Crab Cake, topped with Shrimp over Vegetables was fantastic. My guest enjoyed the Clams Oreganata. I loved my Baked Stuffed Lobster (stuffed with crab), served with amazing Mashed Potatoes... and bonus points for a real hand towel after the lobster. Of course, I had to try the key lime pie... very good. Now I understand why this casual, unassuming spot is so popular... it hits on every note. I noticed a bunch of regulars dining at the bar, which looked perfect to me. The bar is walk-in only... so next time I don't have dinner plans, I'll remember I can just walk in and try for a seat. I'm sure I'll see two familiar faces... the owners, Anthony and Christine. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I recently came back with a friend for oysters, clams, and drinks, and we sat at the bar for the evening. The oysters, clams, and mussels were absolutely delicious. I originally ordered a Grey Goose martini before realizing they only serve beer and wine, so I switched to a Chardonnay, which was great. The experience was nostalgic in the best way. I know the ownership has changed since I first came here, but I was so happy to hear the cook is still the same! It really brought back memories. We had a fun night overall -- although I may have slightly annoyed the bartender by asking her to take photos of us (they didn't come out too well under the lighting). Before we left, another server kindly helped us take a few away from the lights, and those turned out much better. All in all, I'm really glad I came back to give J and J's another whirl. The food was fresh and delicious, the atmosphere was warm and nostalgic, and it reminded me why I loved this place to begin with. You should give it a try too!

Their was a lively group of people at the bar, we got the last couple spots that were open. The very friendly bartender, who smiling might of been his favorite thing, was quick with the menus. We got there early for our reservation, but it was a busy night and the inside table I had already requested and reserved was given away so we had to sit outside. We asked about seating in the bar but we were told it was booked by a private party. (No one for this party showed up from 7:30-9:30 and the bar was as empty when we left as when we arrived.) They did have portable heaters outside so it wasn't too cold, but again, not what I requested or reserved. Our server was friendly and greeted us immediately, explaining the nightly special. We started with the Hamachi appetizer, a fun mix of yellowtail with passionfruit and gochujang. Everything about it was delicious but the yellowtail tasted much fishier than we've had elsewhere. Then the waiting game started. After waiting nearly 40 minutes our server brought the appetizer again so we had to assume he'd put a hold on our order and forgotten it. I went in to ask a few minutes later and our food was just now being staged. I don't mine if things happen, it's life, but tell us up front, say "whoops" and we will move on... Our dinner finally came out and it was really good! - The lovely Spensyr had the Table Wedge Salad, an interesting mix of Bibb lettuce, pork belly, and Tahini ranch, with a sun dried tomato compote. - I had the hangar steak with crispy fried potato and sautéed veg. It was delicious. Because of the earlier wait and mix up, we were offered complimentary desserts. Spensyr got their Key Lime pie and loved it, I got their white chocolate passionfruit cake dome thing and we each thought ours was better. * All in all it was a mixed bag. Apart from the overly fishy appetizer, all our food was delicious. The service was great, except for when they forgot us. The restaurant was comfortable and pleasant other than being kept outside in the cold with an entire empty bar.

The lobster appetizer was phenomenal. The chicken oysters, I personally don't see the hype there but the potato served with them is both the crispiest and the softest potato I've ever eaten. The short rib entree with mole sauce was as tender and flavorful as can be. The local jerk swordfish was cooked perfectly and everything on that plate together created wonderful bites. Cornbread dessert was my choice, I love cornbread and that hit the mark with the blueberry compote and ice cream. One nitpick, and this is absolutely a nitpick. The string lights that hang down the wall to the tables are filthy. So dirty they looked like twine rope. Now that didn't change my experience or make me question the cleanliness of the kitchen at all. That food was perfect. It was excellent and one of the highlights of the meal. We also tried the Za'atar Roasted Local Vegetables with spicy greens, feta tzatziki, lime pickles, and pepitas. It was good, but it wasn't my favorite dish. For our entrées, one person ordered the Rigatoni Bolognese with pork and beef ragu, housemade raw milk ricotta, and Parmigiano-Reggiano. It was rich, comforting, and absolutely delicious. We also ordered the Jerk Local Swordfish from Fort Lauderdale with braised Swiss chard, local radish escovitch, and jackfruit miso beurre blanc. While the swordfish itself was cooked well, I wasn't a fan of the jerk seasoning. The flounder, however, was outstanding and probably my favorite entrée. To drink, I had the Les Fumées Blanches Orange Sauvignon Blanc, which I really enjoyed. Someone else had an Old Fashioned. For dessert, we shared the Affogato with mascarpone ice cream, dark chocolate, and espresso, and it was a perfect ending to the meal. The service was attentive without being overbearing, and we appreciated being able to enjoy our meal at a relaxed pace. It is on the pricey side, but that's fairly typical for a farm-to-table restaurant using quality ingredients. There's a small parking lot behind the restaurant, and we were lucky enough to grab a spot. Overall, it's a fun place for a date night or a nice dinner with family. I'd definitely recommend giving it a try. Or if you want, they have a great bar and you can hang out there and have a bite.

However, what upset us most was not the charge--it was how we were treated. The manager was incredibly rude, tossed gift cards onto our table and walked away without taking the time to listen or explain the charges respectfully. I already felt uncomfortable speaking up, and his behavior made the experience even more humiliating. This is a great restaurant with wonderful food, which makes the situation especially heartbreaking. We came to celebrate someone we love and left feeling completely disrespected. The hostess greeted us and sat us immediately. My mom and I started with the Firecracker Shrimp, big pieces of shrimp breaded and layered with a sweet chili sauce. Very good. The pickled cucumbers in the middle was refreshing. For entree, I had the short rib grilled cheese and it was delightful. Tender meat filling with caramelized onions and melted cheese. Dipped in the beef au jus, it was so rich and flavorful. We both opted for sweet potato fries as the side and it was fresh, homemade and not greasy at all. Unfortunately, I can't speak highly of the food. The highly rated General Tao's Cauliflower is just something deep-fried and covered in sticky sweet sauce. There's no cauliflower flavor to it at all. My short ribs were flavorful, but the risotto on which it sat was undercooked. Yes, risotto can be challenging, but at this price point, I expect a high level of execution. My wife's roasted vegetable bowl was lacking in flavor - I've had better bowls at Fresh Kitchen. In short, our expectations of the food were high, but our experience was sub-par.
