I had a great experience here! Finally I've found a coffee spot in the Chinatown/mt Vernon area where I can get work done and drink high quality beverages. Although small, this place is bright, clean, trendy and has plenty of seating. I think it's a great place to bring a laptop. The service is awesome and the barista was super sweet and informative. The spring menu is great and the rose latte is awesome!! Not super sweet but definitely flavorful. They also have gluten free pastries which I appreciated! The carrot cake frosting is delicious and the almond croissant was great. My friend ordered the turmeric latte off the seasonal menu, and it was a bit too turmeric heavy for our taste so I'd maybe choose something else if you're considering that one. What a lovely cafe hidden in NW Washington. I love Vigilante coffee in Hyattsville - I'm so glad I found a cafe in D.C. that sells their beans. The coffee tastes fantastic. I love the variety of their menu, serving traditional espresso drinks and "specialty drinks" such as rose lattes and turmeric lattes. I didn't get to try these specialty drinks, but I'd definitely like to return and try them another time. This cafe is also great for those who like non-dairy milk with their coffee. This is one of the few cafes I've encountered in this area that provide macadamia and oat milk!! The seating is a little limited, but I love the long wide counter by the window. It's a perfect spot for people to bring their laptops and do some work during the day. The WiFi is free as well. This cafe is fantastic just from the food and interior alone, but what made it especially awesome for me was the service provided by the ladies behind the counter. As soon as I entered, they were incredibly friendly and helpful with my questions. I stayed at the cafe for a while because I was studying with my friend and had no idea that the cafe had already closed up for the day. I had overstayed by about 50 minutes, and the ladies never interrupted me to tell me to leave because they were "not finished cleaning up." Now that is some friendly customer service!!! I left as soon as I learned that I stayed so late past closing hours, but I really appreciated that they were courteous enough to let me stay until the absolute latest moment. This little cafe is easy to walk by, but not something you want to miss. The location has a small couch area and seats along the window. The spring special menu has some great drinks available including turmeric latte, rose latte and earl gray latte. There's a full case of delicious looking treats as well. I got the rose latte which was carefully prepared and topped with dried rose petals. The rose flavor was subtle but refreshing. The almond cake was light and creamy. I also tried a bite of the coffee cake which had a great cinnamon sugar flavor. If I'm in the area I would definitely stop in again. read more

I loved the decor and atmosphere of this place! It's a cute cozy spot to do some work and enjoy coffee/tea. It seemed like there was only one person working at this cafe though- she made all the coffees/teas and was also running back into the kitchen to warm up the pastries! I tried the chai turmeric latte and it was delicious! I would definitely come back to try the other teas (hibiscus, rose petal, lavender petals, jasmine green, and white peony). The almond cream cake was also good, but just a little too sweet for me. This place is small and easy to miss but definitely a gem. I got the rose latte and the crumb cake, and my friend got the hazelnut latte with a dark chocolate brownie. My friend loved both things she got, and the crumb cake I had was absolutely fantastic in addition to being huge. It wasn't dry at all and had a great subtle flavor. My only gripe was that the rose latte just tasted like a regular sweetened latte with no additional flavor. But overall, this place is really good. I had an experience so upsetting today that I decided to write my first Yelp review ever! I am honestly hoping the owner reads this and does something about it as it is not meant to be vindictive. I walked in this morning and ordered a latte and an avocado toast with mozzarella and a balsamic drizzle. While the coffee tasted great, the avocado toast was downright terrible. The bread first of all, was barely toasted, and it seemed as if they just took small scoops of overly ripe avocado, and just smushed it onto the bread, and then totally drenched it in balsamic vinaigrette. And the mozzarella? Nowhere in sight! The taste was so atrocious that I literally took one bite, threw it in the trash and walked out. Had I not been in a rush for work I would have absolutely demanded a refund on the spot!! read more

Chez Lily Coffee cafe is a small, cute spot in a lovely neighborhood, and it can be a good place to telework. The service was respectful and friendly. The place was bright, tidy and clean. Their coffee packed a caffeinated punch, which had me talking faster than I usually did. Their bagel tasted very nice, and it's not often to find oats in a wheat bagel, although I had wished that they add a little more cream cheese on it. My girlfriend had Labne & Zaatar toast, and I had to try a bite of it, which turned out to be delicious. So nice, I had one for myself a couple of hours later. Overall, the experience was pleasant for the teleworking hours. I might come back again someday, should I telework full-time. read more

I questioned this place at first, but the minute you walk into Chez Lily Coffee it's instagram gold. From the plant wall to the tiled floor, the decor in this place is stunning. It's a little small and has minimal seating, but if you can snag a spot, it would be a great place to do some work. The owner is incredibly nice and the menu is delicious. They make a delicious oat milk iced latte and the food items are so decadent. I loved everything I tried from this place. It's in a very convenient location--close to a lot of stuff in the mt. vernon/chinatown area. I was shocked and appalled when I was told by the barista that the only difference between a large and a small latte was that there was more milk and ice added. While I am no coffee snob I'm aware that any coffee establishment that charges at least 2 extra dollars for coffee at least make changes to the proportion of ingredients based on size I.e. more espresso, more syrup etc. it was ridiculous that she would attempt to justify a two dollar price difference between the small and large drink solely to the size of the cup and the extra milk and ice. It wasn't event a specialty milk like almond or soy. I only became aware of this after I had ordered a large drink and she mistakenly made me a small drink. Instead of making a new drink she just changed the cup added ice and milk. Then when I questioned her about whether she added another shot she said no, so I asked her why there was a two dollar price difference between the large and small lattes; she attempted to justify the changes and made it seem like the prices were just arbitrarily being assigned. She stated that extra shots where an additional 1.50 and that the small and large lattes had the same amount of shots. So in essence you are paying two extra dollars for regular milk and ice! It was almost seven dollars for a large latte that has the same amount of espresso shots as a small. That's simply ridiculous. There are at least three coffee shops in the area and while I was attempting to support small business, I do not think I will be going there again. At the very least with a bigger chain coffee shop you know that you aren't getting ripped off by paying for a large drink which has the same amount of shots as a small drink. read more

I stopped by this new little spot for the turmeric latte, macarons, and crumb cake. The latte was great! I could really taste the turmeric root and it wasn't sweet, which is hard to find in coffee drinks nowadays. The crumb cake was tasty and the portion is big enough to share for two. The macarons were only okay though. I had the caramel and pistachio. Neither of them were great and could just be described as sweet with a hint of flavor. Their texture was great though, and I know macarons are difficult to perfect. I'm sure they'll get it right! I would come again for sure to try other drinks. I do wish they had some tables inside to study at or read. They have a bar against the window with seats, but it's definitely a "get in, get out" sort of place. read more

Really nice small coffee shop. There are 2 other big chain coffee shops on the same block, and honestly this place is definitely up there. I tried a Vanilla iced latte and it was very very good! Nice, smooth, and not water down at all even after the ice are half thawed. I also tried their bagel, definitely worth getting if you want a quick bite while doing work there, try the Bagel with butter and cream cheese!! Mmmmm delicious!! I actually like this place much better than Joe and The Juice and is definitely comparable with Baked Joint. The menu is quite small though but very thing seems to be very well prepared and they get their coffee from a local company in Maryland. The coffee shop itself is small but cozy, and nice environment. Never too crowded so a great place to get a quick cup of joe and a bite or stay and get some work done!! I've tried the coffee a few different times, and I've gotten a latte once. The latte was good, but the coffee was a little watered down the first time I visited just after they opened. It has since been fine in the morning. I do wish/suggest that they put some real half and half or whole milk out on their bar for coffees. Came here because of a Yelp event. The lady who helped us was very informative and helpful. She let us try some of the different milks before she put it in our drinks, which I really appreciated it because I've never had macadamia milk before or any of the new milk types. While vigilante coffee is normally one of my favorites, my iced latte was not prepared the best. It tasted very milky and didn't have the usual flavors of the vigilante coffee beans that I enjoy. My friend and I got early grey lattes which honestly just tasted like water... with a hint of Earl grey. had two sips, couldn't finish it. Solid pastries though- the pb&j bar was sooo delicious (and there were actual the peanuts mmm). While I thought the crumb cake was too sweet, my friend really enjoyed it. What a delightful little coffee shop in Mt Vernon neighborhood. It's a bit hidden from Mass Ave so you may have to search for it a bit but once you get there it's truly worth it! I went here with my fiancée for a daytime coffee date. We had a seasonal Rose Latte and an Earl Grey Latte. When I ordered the tea, the owner asked me if I wanted to add lavender too! I thought it might have been lavender syrup but I was impressed to find the real thing :) The staff were very generous and welcoming, almost hard to find in DC these days. It was refreshing to have genuine, polite conversation with people in the neighborhood. The drinks took a bit of time to make but it was worth it, they were incredible. Stopped in to try out this new spot with a friend and they didn't disappoint! I'm not a big coffee drinker and they didn't have any other cold options which wasn't ideal for me, but the iced latte I had was delicious. They don't offer soy milk, but they have oat and macadamia milk instead! There are lots of specialty lattes too, and the pastries we had were excellent - a blueberry muffin with like yogurt inside and a yummy big block of coffee cake. GLUTEN FREE FRIENDLY! Gluten free pastries can be so hard to find at coffee shops and cafes in DC. They have a dedicated shelf of gf pastries in their display case. I got the banana bread and it was excellent. My oat milk mocha was a solid 8.5/10 as well (could have had a stronger mocha flavor). I will definitely be back! read more

Every time I leave this little coffee shop, I walk out happier than when I came in. The staff is always kind and welcoming, and they serve some of my favorites: Bethesda Bagels and Vigilante Coffee. They also have really inventive food that goes beyond normal cafe fare - labneh as a topping for bagels, zaatar flatbreads, etc. During COVID-19, I feel safe ordering from here. You can tell they are serious about folks wearing masks and social distancing while inside, and they offer hand sanitizer at the counter. If you get lucky enough to be served by the owner, she's always willing to answer questions and chat with you (even if it is mostly trying to talk loud enough to be heard through a mask!) There are lots of coffee options in this area with bigger name recognition and followings, but I always feel good supporting this small business.
