Parking is really hard, so preferably take an uber or park at the conventiom center or Hilton. Its only a 10 min from there to the restaurant and super easy access to get put of downtown. I really like this place because the ambiance is like being in Spain, DJ and Live Latin Music until around 1am. Decor is like being in a Spaniard "Bar" and it is usually pretty busy. Full bar, good cocktails, wine list and a great variety type of Cold and Hot Tapas to share. Their signature dish for me Is the Black Seafood Paella made with the squid's black ink. Lively music and there is an area where you can dance if you are up to the mood Great place to gather with friends, they do take reservations or you can also walk in and sit at the bar if the tables are busy. There is like a second floor with tables to be a little bit more separate from the music. Ladies bathroom, very interesting decor with pics of cute famous Spanish and Latin Actors. The only thing is that there was no a/c in the restroom so it was super hot there even if were there for 2 minutes. Service was average. Not out of this world. I think our waiter was taking care of too many tables at the same time and he was always in a hurry. We had to hunt him down to get our orders taken and even for the bill. This left a lot to desire for the restaurant quality. But still a good option for dinner, fun, laughs and dance.

I visited Chez Loma with my boyfriend over Labor Day weekend, and all I can say is YUK. Everything about our experience was terrible. How do I start? First, the hostess was nothing but incapable and incompetent. She seemed shocked to see us there and really had no idea what she was doing. It was painfully obivous that she did not know what to do with two people without a reservation. We were seated at table for two in a small room off the kitchen, which had a "lovely" view of the staff and kitchen for our dinner. We were not the only ones there, and our waitress was clearly overwhelmed. Our server was nice enough, but she seemed like she was always stressed and our every request was met with a hesitant "Ill see what I can do". So the real problem was the food. REAL PROBLEM. It took forever to get our meal! We waited at lest 30 minutes for a salad and cold fish dish. What? Shouldnt that stuff be ready to go? Then it took another 40 minutes to get our entrees, the lamb and some weird fish, crook or snoosh (I cant remeber). The food itself was nice, good flavor, served pretty hot, but it took so long to get to the table that we werent even hungry by the time we got it all. Oh, and the wine list? Good luck choosing anything they actually have in stock. We asked for 2 different glasses of white wine before we chose anything we could actually drink! So, after dinner we couldnt decide if we wanted to stay any longer than we had to, but I really wanted something sweet, so I convinced my boyfriend to stay for dessert. BIG MISTAKE. I wanted the creme brulee, but of course, they were out, so I chose the pot de creme instead...ANOTHER 40 minutes later we got our dessert! I dont know if they make each dish to order and have to wait for it to cool before serving but it was rediculous how long it took to get our food. I almost felt bad for our waitress because she was clearly overwhelmed and not getting any help from the kitchen-I would know beacuse I could see into the kitchen all night. Basically, this place needs to get their shit in gear and figure out how to server dinnr in less than 3 hours. Plus, try actually carrying the wine on your menu! I hate to say it, but for the money we spent it wasnt worth our time. read more

My husband and I live in Coronado and Chez Loma is our "go to" place on the island. We love the ambience, the wait staff, the chef/owner, the other patrons and especially the bartender, Cheryl. In fact, we love her so much that we go only when she is working. The dining room is beautiful and if you have a large party, you will need to be seated in one of the quaint rooms of this old Victorian home. Reservations are a must if you either have a large party or prefer the quiet of the dining room. Our perfect spot is sitting at the old wooden bar; chatting with Cheryl (when it's not too busy!), the other regulars who have become our friends and the visitors to Coronado. This always makes for a perfect evening. I guess I better mention the food!!! It is superb. There is a happy hour menu, but you are able to order off of the dining room menu at the bar as well. The ceviche and shrimp cocktail are the perfect appetizer. They are both served with the perfect amount of tortilla chips; so if you aren't particularly hungry, these would make for a great small plate dinner. I LOVE the burger...either Gruyere or Blue Cheese and thick cut bacon; yummy. And the pome frites are always hot. My husband loves the frisée salad, and if you go for Sunday brunch they will add a poached egg. The traditional French items are just that, traditional, and what you would expect a French restaurant to serve. We make our way to Chez Loma at least twice a week. We were there just last night; it was our third time in a week. Honestly, if Cheryl was not there, it just wouldn't be the same. She is not only a great bartender (makes a mean pomegranate martini ), but has become a wonderful friend! Our group had reservations and us five seated promptly w menus, drink orders and the three course prix fixe menu choices for three course meal for 31$. We had charcuterie starter to share, duck, venison, beef bourgenouf, chicken , boullebaisse, st Emil lion red wine, frisée salad, beets and salads. Service was lovely. We had everything we needed when it was needed! I tasted the food and believe the flavors and presentation were elegant and acceptable. The meats on the starter were delish, Wild w flavor. The venison was a thick cut like a roast but was pre cooked in a soup vide and finished. It was equal to most European style wild plates but missed being steaming hot by a bit and the side squash n tater, under portioned by a smidge. The cow au vin had a wonderful sauce, the mushrooms were earthy n fabulous. Other dishes were well received. What keeps us from the ultimate perfect result was the hot n steamy plating the food deserved. Sides were lukewarm and the presentation lacked the fresh off the cooker feel, plated too early? Too much reheating? Very small problem to work on in this popular but small scale eatery. During our meal, the couple seated next to us had cocktails n steak n walked out on their bill wo paying due to some unhappiness w their meals. The waiter said, " I have to charge something...you ate half your steak n five cocktails!"" But, no, these apparent deadbeats needed their money. Proceed w caution then...the tastes r lovely, service superb....final plating just short of where they ultimately need to be. We chose this restaurant for Valentine's Day because of its strong reputation and were genuinely looking forward to our first visit. Unfortunately, the evening did not meet expectations. We had a 9:00 PM reservation but were seated around 9:45 PM. By the time we were seated, several key prix fixe items were no longer available, including the French onion soup and prime rib, and later only one dessert option remained. When I inquired about an unavailable item, I was told, "Well, it's late," which felt discouraging given that we were seated significantly after our reservation time. There was also a brief service mix-up when two small plates of lobster that we hadn't ordered were placed on our table. Given the long wait and the limited menu options remaining, I initially thought it might have been a thoughtful gesture from the restaurant. It was soon clarified that the dishes were not intended for us and were removed. I completely understand that Valentine's Day is a high-volume evening, but running out of featured menu items for reserved guests and the overall disorganization made the night feel poorly executed. I also noticed another couple shared a very similar experience on Yelp from that same evening, suggesting this may not have been an isolated situation. I emailed the restaurant afterward to share this feedback privately and did not receive a response. I would have appreciated at least an acknowledgment. It felt like I was being greeted by an old friend. Dallas's attention to detail and dedication to providing top-notch service was evident throughout the entire evening. He took the time to explain the menu, offer personalized recommendations, and ensure that every aspect of my meal was perfect. I believe Chez Loma may be making a remarkable comeback. As a San Diego local since the mid-1980s, I fondly recall my father introducing me to this French staple in Coronado, which I believe was established in 1978. After several years of disappointing experiences, I had reluctantly placed it on my list of places to avoid due to subpar food and service. However, yesterday, I decided to give Chez Loma one final chance. I reserved an outdoor table and was warmly welcomed by Valeria. Our server for the evening, Kevin, provided exceptional service, supported by the excellent teamwork of Miguel and Helmut. Rachid, the new manager, not only crafted superb martinis but has seemingly revitalized the restaurant to its former glory. The food, drinks, and ambiance were all outstanding. My only suggestion would be to tailor the music selection more to the establishment's atmosphere. While I appreciate Huey Lewis & The News and Guns N' Roses, their music didn't quite align with the restaurant's vibe or clientele. Later in the evening, with the introduction of Sinatra and some classic Stéphane Pompougnac, the ambiance became much more fitting and enjoyable. It was a perfect evening. I'm a bartender at a major hotel in Coronado. People always ask me for restaurant recommendations and I often recommend Chez Loma. My fiancé and I made a reservation for tonight (2/15/17.)When we arrived the hostess let us know that a table was reserved for us in the bar area. As we were walking up to the table the bartender gave away our table to another couple he was obviously friends with or knew. Instead of causing a scene, we decided to be flexible. We sat down at the bar and waited patiently. We were not greeted by the bartender at all. After ignoring us for a while he came over and rudely said" what do you want to drink." No "hello." No "how are you." We then got up and explained the situation to the hostess in hopes of being accommodated. They stuck us in a tight corner table (the bar area is very small and compact). We left and went to Vigilluci's which has excellent service and food. Not only did they lose our business but I will not be sending anyone to this restaurant anymore and will encourage my coworkers and friends to do the same. First of all we went here because we thought it was a French restaurant. On the menu there's nothing the only thing French was one crepe which we ordered and the crepe was not fresh at all and it was served cold. The only other French thing was french fries which we didn't get when we ordered they gave us salad instead. Inside was very hot as it was a hot and humid day and they had no air conditioner just an overhead fan blowing down on our heads very strong. We ordered a tomato juice and they only brought half a glass of the juice which was not fresh or cold and probably from a v8 bottle. Our table was facing where the kitchen curtains were which were extremely soiled and dirty which made us feel uncomfortable to try to enjoy any food staring at dirty curtains. We were very hungry and needed to be back to Los Angeles within the hour of that we spent a whole hour trying to get the food the food we ordered done properly. I was so excited to eat there again. Then they sat us upstairs! Awful! No ambiance! Horrible mismatched art, white walls, no candles on the tables. We asked and they it's because of the age of the building! Have they heard of flamless battery candles, no flowers, no tress. Just awful! Will not be going back. The food was mediocre at best! Sit at the bar - the ambiance is lovely! Was a bit too cool to sit on the patio - it is great for people watching. Bar tenders make excellent pairing suggestions. My gal pal and I split the scallop salad and the seafood pasta. The seafood pasta was excellent, fetticini al dente, seafood perfectly cooked, not too saucy. This restaurant is situated in an old resident, amazing, lastly some character in a restaurant! The food is incredible as well as a excellent deal in case you either get the early bird special prior to 6pm or you order 1 of their prix fix menus. You ought to dress up a bit, not since you've to, but just since this food plus the atmosphere deserves it. read more

What a disappointing evening. I've been here before many years ago and remembered it was good. Everything has gone to hell. Cold soup, gross appetizers, crappy wine selection, and main entrees we're not great. Also don't help that our two top choices were sold out. Really the only good thing about the whole meal was the free bread and butter. read more

The best French food I've eaten in my life (so far)! It's always busy so you definitely need to make reservations. When I went there the first time, it was VERY crowded and the restaurant seemed small. Otherwise, all I can say is that their food is delicious and they have great service! read more

Before I start ripping this place I want to preface by saying our server was great and did everything he could, he was failed by the rest of the staff and the restaurant as a whole especially the kitchen. Meal started off alright however our drinks took quite some time come out (around 20 minutes for a margarita, old fashioned, and virgin mule) which already should have been a bad omen. We then ended up waiting 45 minutes for our 1 appreciate to come out which was 3 small meatballs. The meatballs themselves were just alright, and did not warrant the long wait time at all. Very crumbly and did not have much flavor. Red sauce that came on them and the ricotta scoop that came in the plate were good, but if the foundation (meatballs) isn't solid, everything crumbles (literally). Following this we ordered our entrees: rosemary pizza, salmon estivo, pappardelle carbonara. We waited about 30 minutes after which our server came by to tell us we would need to wait another hour to hour and a half for the pizza since their pizza oven was apparently experiencing issues (??). Despite these "issues" we witnessed parties seated both before and after us order and receive pizzas from this seemingly issue-ridden pizza oven. In lieu of the pizza my compadre swapped her order to the chicken piccata, and we dug in for what would end up being a brutal wait time. After another 40 minutes had passed we asked our server about our order after which he went back to the (problematic) kitchen to likely whip them into shape and remind them there are actual paying customers waiting. Finally after another 10 minutes our entrees finally came out. The salmon estivo was great, very simple roasted salmon filet with vegetables and capers. Was this worth the long wait? No absolutely not but it was still tasty and I found no flaws in the dish. The chicken piccata was just alright. The actual chicken filet and lemon sauce was good but the side of fettuccine Alfredo tasted like prego and barilla at best. The carbonara was a genuine abomination. I truly believe if any true Italian had tasted this dish their soul would have left their body. Carbonara is a dish best known for its simplicity, as the quality of the ingredients should speak for themselves. You'll notice if you take a look at the menu that this carbonara has onion as a prominent ingredient, which should immediately raise red flags for any Italian or even any self respecting cook. This carbonara tasted so strongly of onion it was genuinely off putting. The overall flavor of the dish was very odd as well, just did not taste like carbonara should and this kitchen should be ashamed to produce a dish with this name of this poor caliber. Our server tried his best to make up for things by bringing a complimentary glass of red and a glass of white to our table, but by this point the damage was done and there was really no salvaging this meal. Again I should point out that our server was great, he was just failed by the back of house staff and the menu overall. I would highly advise against dining at this establishment, as you would likely have a better experience at Olive Garden.

Tourists speak highly of the place because they are mostly one and done, but I look for places I feel comfortable with and look forward to returning to. It's a cozy little setting with light music playing in the background. I made my way to the bar where there isn't much action.. or life for that matter. There doesn't seem to be a bartender in charge, just a few women who seemingly take turns. My server was apparently new, because when I asked if there were any veggies I could order on the side.. the deer in the headlights kicked in as she didn't know the menu. She eventually said they could 'mix something up' but at that point I was already turned off. I ordered the Wendt Chardonnay, and later when I asked for a second glass I noticed last minute that she just poured any available bottle into my glass. I never mix, but I guess I had to now. As for my entree, I ordered the veal Dijon which was served on a bed of buttered noodles - and no veggies. It was flavorfully cooked in a white wine sauce but the veal was undercooked. And so, unfamiliarity with the menu, mixing different wines into the same glass, and undercooked meal.. needless to say, I'm being generous with a 4-star rating when I'd really prefer to give 3.5. I had to look back at my review of Il Fornaio (3) which is located right around the corner, but I feel this place provides more value for your money.

We came for happy hour on a Friday and we were very impressed with our overall experience. Try the calamari! It's lightly breaded and served on a bed of crispy noodles and cabbage which gives it the perfect bite. Also, GET the PSM cocktail. PSM=Pumpkin Spice Martini and yes, I know it's not fall BUT if a bar has pumpkin spice anything then you have to try it. It was so cold, crisp, and gave all the wannabe fall feels!

The things I liked best were the custom-made omelette that you can order that's included with the buffet. I also liked the watermelon and the juice of the day, which was cucumber lime. The coffee was also very good. The croissants were not very good. The scrambled eggs were OK. You could add on made to order mini pancakes for three dollars. They were actually delicious, but it took a good half hour for them to come. If you really want a buffet and the price does not scare you, you will definitely find something to eat here and the patio is pleasant. But otherwise I don't particularly recommend the Veranda for breakfast. ENO is tasty, cheaper, and faster, even if it's mostly pastries and coffee.

I'm not sure if he was the owner or not but he was doing great making convo with us. Bonus they take military discount. Also, I see them constantly bussing tables and making sure everything is clean. Long story short, staff is doing their job the right way. Food is yummy and portions are good! I think they're pretty generous on their amount of meat that they give. The gyro fries are great to share! (I mean you can eat them on your own lol). The portion is pretty big! I like that their lamb isn't gamey. Their pita is always fresh. I don't feel guilty eating their food after! I've been here numerous times and I know I'm bound to go back again. It's one of the spots that has stuck at the fairy landing for years! Garibaldi is on the top of a small hotel overlooking San Diego Bay and the Midway. There are excellent sunset views in a popular part of San Diego. We sat along the back area, which is sort of bar seating, but has the best views. Make sure to bring sunglasses. I did not and I wished that I had. Anyway, my friend had made reservations letting them know it was our birthdays. The hostess drew a small card with Garibaldi fish on it... so cute.... and there was a kind birthday message on the other side from two of the staff... perhaps our server and hostess? Anyway, the happy hour menu had lots of great items. We started with a couple of spritzers; my friend had Aperol and I had Limoncello.... nice light drinks for a hot day. We shared the oysters, zummus (a little take on a hummus), and the bruschetta with mussels and chorizo. These were all on the happy hour menu. Honestly, I loved everything. The oysters were fresh and perfectly shucked. The zummus came with really fresh pita. I don't care for mussels, but the tomato bruschetta was delicious and even better topped with he chorizo. We decide to share one dish from the regular menu and, after a discussion with our server, we chose the prawns provencale. They were huge meaty prawns with a slightly spicy and delicious sauce. For our birthday dessert, they gave us the most beautiful piece of pistachio cheesecake with a chocolate ganache birthday greeting. We were both absolutely stuffed, but still really enjoyed the cheesecake If you go to Garibaldi, I highly recommend the pistachio cheesecake. If I did critique anything, there was one time when I really wanted water and our server took a long time, so we flagged down another server. This only happened once, and everything else was amazing, so I sill rate 5-stars. If you enjoy sunset, get over to Garibaldi and enjoy some delicious happy hour deals

All around great experience…read more The ambience from entrance to walking through is unique and upscale vibe. Add the panoramic views and it is a choice date spot. Inside seating ~ busy, loud, everyone having fun. Outdoor patio ~ huge bar with seating, relaxed patio setting, heaters sporadically placed, perfect for SD nights. Maybe bring a blanket if you plan to stay late. Servers were courteous and hustling throughout the packed restaurant. Desserts no joke delish. Enjoyed every bite. Our evening manager could use a little ironing for his suit but he was on top of making sure we had all we requested. Great experience.
