    Crab wedge salad
    Mary W.

I made reservations quite awhile ago..got there and was told the booths were already reserved although they stayed empty for duration of our dinner stay.. Our server was attentive and friendly...but forgot our roll order with our entrees. Prices are exorbitant..Brussels were delicious, and crab cake and crab wedge was filled with crab..they did not skimp. I thought I was asking for regular still water, and was served the bottle..and then charged$10 for it?? I guess Hotel Del is another restaurant that no longer acknowledges birthdays.although they did give me a signed card from the staff..it was an afterthought as we had already asked for the bill..the server acted embarrassed and actually apologized for it.. A disappointment in so many ways..

Veranda at the Del is pure coastal bliss. The moment you step onto the terrace you are greeted by a soft ocean breeze, the glow of Coronado's sand, and that timeless Hotel del Coronado charm. It feels effortlessly elegant, relaxed, and special all at once. Service is gracious and attentive without being rushed. Our host seated us with a beautiful view, waters were refilled before we had to ask, and our server guided us to great choices with genuine warmth. The food is fresh, bright, and full of California flavor. Think crisp salads with peak produce, perfectly cooked seafood, and shareable plates that disappear fast. Cocktails are balanced and beachy, the wine list is thoughtful, and the mocktail options are just as fun. Come for sunset if you can, the sky puts on a show and the patio becomes magic. It is an easy choice for date night, a leisurely lunch with friends, or a celebratory family dinner. Reserve a table with an ocean view, give yourself time to stroll the beach, and let Veranda remind you why dining by the sea never goes out of style.

Having dinner here was so perfect. We had the best waiter who was so attentive and the vibes were so positive and festive. The butternut squash soup fulfilled all my winter soup dreams. The crab cake was filling and perfectly cooked. My boyfriend said his burger was one of the best he's ever had! Amazing.

Nice vibe with great view, and food is much better than we expected. Service is attentive and friendly. My girlfriend and I both like the scallops. The risotto is okay, a bit under seasoned. The dessert is pretty and unique.

We were on the patio, even if it is 70° out, if you are in the sun, you start to cook.

One of the new, post remodel, restaurants.... It's right up my alley with an excellent smash burger!! The Veranda knows which way the wind is blowing!!!! We also had the halibut the whole chicken, asparagus, salads, so on and so forth .... See recipe: all good to excellent .... All the drinks were good as you would expect..... The Parker House rolls deserve mention, I could live on them in water !!!!' The service is exceptional. We were speaking with some of the servers and some have been working there 30 and 40 years. They really take pride in their jobs, which is so refreshing these days. A great deal of the restaurant is on the patio, which is where we were always seated. Casual with the ocean a couple hundred yards away.... Blissful.

Veranda is the newly opened outdoor dining venue at the Hotel Del Coronado. Over 100 guests can be seated on the terrace facing the southern edge of the property overlooking the beachfront. After sunset, a plethora of heat lamps are fired up so that diners are not shivering while eating and drinking al fresco. Reservations can be made on OpenTable if you are not a guest of the hotel. The menu was described by an article as "contemporary Californian" with featured nights on Wednesday (fried chicken), Thursday (prime rib), and Friday (seafood boil). The two-page food menu listed shareables, soups, and salads on one side and mains, grill (steaks), sides, and desserts on the other side. Beer, wine, cocktails, mocktails, and spirits were displayed on a separate two-page menu for libations. I walked up to the hostess stand without a reservation, and they added me to a waitlist. Within 20 minutes, I was escorted to a table. From the shareables, I selected the Parker House Rolls which were served as a set of six pull apart pieces. Cultured butter was provided on the side. The buns were very soft and addictive. For an entree, my choice was the California Halibut Veracruz. A halibut fillet was garnished with fingerling potatoes, tomato, olive, capers, fresh oregano, and lemon. The item was served in a shallow bowl which made the portion size seem small for the $40+ price. The ambiance glowed with neon pink lighting that caused my photos to appear less focused than usual. The service from the waitstaff was adequate. For the food quality and cost, I gave a four star rating for my dinner at Veranda.

Awesome food, service and ambience. Manny and all the staff were excellent. We had our two dogs and the welcoming environment was perfect for a fantastic evening. They may have received as much attention as us! Highly recommend the Monkey in the Garden Old Fashion, Butternut Squash Risotto, Brussels Sprouts, Chowder in the Bread Bowl, and the Date Cake - yummy all around ...

Enjoyed dinner here on a Friday evening with my fiancee. We shared the crab cake, ceasar salad, seared diver scallops, 8oz CAB filet, and two lovely dessert. The salad was extremely refreshing and a great size to share. Seared scallops were my favorite. Very well cooked and flavored deliciously. The filet wasn't necessarily plated as beautiful and was a bit dry for me however the service was fantastic and the view was amazing. Restaurant does get pretty busy but yet the servers are very attentive of any additional drinks or food needed. It's also on a patio deck so it feels quite fresh to be out there on a fall evening. Would return again and try other dishes. Both desserts we tried were plated beautifully! I'd highly recommend the strawberry one. Chocolate one was a bit overwhelming for me but if you like chocolate, it might just be it for you!

We stopped in for brunch with a beautiful view and ambience while visiting San Diego. The buffet was $50 per person, however the items such as build your own omelette and $19 mimosa were extra charges. This could easily add up with an added beverage to more like $80 per person.

The best combination of atmosphere, food and service! We came here on our last night in San Diego because we were told we had to see the hotel Coronado. Well worth it! To eat dinner and watch the sunset just feet from the beach is a dream and the food was the perfect addition. My husband isn't a seafood guy ( I AM!!) so he had the Mac and cheese with chicken breast added; I had the divers scallops with pea risotto. Not 1 critique, being from Monterey Bay Area, I love good seafood and this was delicious, cooked perfectly which is rare, the Risotto was delicious but I love peas. We shared a Caesar salad, fresh and flavorful with crispy cheese croutons in it. Also shared their Parker house rolls, wow! Takes me back to Sunday dinner at grandmas house. Our waiter was Manny, he makes you feel like family, definitely a wonderful end to a birthday vacation and the chocolate cake to finish it didn't hurt either. Rich and chocolatey, perfect way to end the evening.

My boyfriend and I had dinner at Veranda tonight for our three-year anniversary, and we are still speechless. This was, without exaggeration, the best meal we have ever had in our entire lives -- and equally, the best service we've ever received anywhere. From the moment we sat down, Cody, Joseph, and Armando made us feel genuinely cared for. Not just "good service" cared for -- I mean above and beyond, next-level hospitality that you don't forget. Cody was incredibly warm, attentive, and knowledgeable, making every course feel special. Joseph checked on us with perfect timing every single time, making sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling rushed. And Armando absolutely elevated the entire experience with flawless presentation, professionalism, and the kind of genuine care that's rare to find. Every dish was unforgettable -- beautifully prepared, perfectly cooked, and presented like something out of a fine dining magazine. We ordered the tomahawk and several sides, and each plate tasted like pure luxury. You can truly feel the passion and craftsmanship in every bite. The ambiance, the view, the food, the team... everything came together in the most extraordinary way. We both left saying the same thing: "That was the best dining experience of our lives." If you're visiting the Hotel Del or even just San Diego in general, you absolutely must eat at Veranda -- and if you're lucky enough to be taken care of by Cody, Joseph, and Armando, consider your night made. We'll remember this evening forever.

Unfortunately, our most recent visit was one of the strangest and most disappointing restaurant experiences we have had in a long time. We brought a guest visiting from out of town and were honestly embarrassed by how poor the experience was from start to finish. The restaurant was only about one quarter full on a weekday evening, yet service was shockingly slow and disorganized. It started with our server fumbling through reservation lists trying to find our name, then acting annoyed when we ordered specific cocktails. At one point, he even asked if we were "old enough to drink," which came off as rude and bizarre. The first round of drinks took around 20 minutes and arrived poorly made. We then waited another 40 minutes just to place entree orders, despite barely seeing our server after appetizers arrived. Ordering a second round somehow went even worse. The server rolled his eyes, made annoyed noises, and acted inconvenienced that we were ordering more drinks at a restaurant charging premium prices. One drink, a dirty martini, took about 30 minutes and arrived with a greasy film on top from bleu cheese olives sitting in it far too long. We asked for a manager, who apologized but then asked whether we wanted sweet or dry vermouth in a dirty martini, which did not inspire much confidence. The remake came back not dirty at all and had to be remade again. After nearly two hours, our entrees finally arrived. The plates were dropped on the table without a word. The chicken and fish were passable, but the sides were awful. Cold, lifeless, and completely forgettable. The broccolini was especially bad. We complained again, and the manager offered to comp the bill. Even then, it took another long wait just to close out. I eventually handed the server $100 cash because we simply wanted to leave and still tip something despite the experience. He then shoved the check open in my face and said, "There's your bill." What made this so disappointing is that we used to love this place. It was somewhere we proudly brought visitors. Instead, we left apologizing to our guest for how uncomfortable and confusing the entire night was. We do not care about free food or comps. We care about receiving a decent dining experience at a restaurant charging $30 cocktails and premium entree prices. Serea has declined dramatically, and management needs to take a hard look at both service standards and overall execution. Do better.

In my opinion, the true measure of a business is how it handles things when something goes wrong, and this restaurant handled the situation exactly the way a quality establishment should. Here's what happened: I stopped in briefly to use the restroom and grab one of the spritzers they make here. First off, the spritzer is absolutely delicious -- light, refreshing, and something I highly recommend if you visit. Unfortunately, my interaction with the host was less than stellar. I asked about ordering the spritzer and was told two things: 1. He didn't think they made it. 2. He "didn't have time." That response honestly caught me off guard. A paying customer walks in asking to purchase a product your restaurant does in fact make, and the answer is that you don't have time? Serving guests is literally the core function of hospitality. Thankfully, one of the waitresses, Rachel, who had helped me during a previous visit completely turned the experience around. I asked her for the drink and without hesitation she smiled and said, "Right away!" Within moments she returned with the spritzer in hand. Professional, courteous, and exactly the kind of service that keeps people coming back. I explained the interaction to her and she looked genuinely puzzled. I later mentioned it to the manager, whom I've met before and always found to be approachable, professional, and kind. He was clearly appalled by what happened and handled the situation with sincerity and care. That's exactly why this place continues to earn high marks from me. Problems can happen anywhere. What matters is whether management and experienced staff know how to recover -- and they absolutely did. The seasoned staff and management here understand hospitality. Based on this interaction alone, I honestly think the host may simply be better suited for a non-customer-facing role.

The food is good I guess. The wagyu taco had a nice flavor and the greens with the sauce made it work. I don't think it's actually wagyu, but the word is pretty much meaningless at this point. For the crust, I found it to be way too chewy rather than light and flaky. I couldn't even cut it with my spoon anymore and had to pick up a long thing of crust and pull it apart with my teeth. I will allow that the gravy and other contents are bland and generic since if it had as much flavor as I actually want, other customers will be complaining about it. But the crust I cannot forgive. Overall it was not bad though. Surprisingly, my favorite item was the brussels sprouts. Even with all the seasoning and cheese, I found the flavor to be well balanced. Even after most of the plate, I noticed I didn't find it too salty. I really like the menus in the crappy brown folders. I think they might've also done it because it's easy and cheap, but it works well with the aesthetic they have.

I had NO IDEA how popular this spot was, nor anything about its nation-wide reputation. I actually didn't know that until two days ago when a Yelp-friend at home here in Richmond, Virginia, exclaimed excitedly when I told her we stopped in. The host who greeted us was kind, informed us there had been a line to get in that day, but that they had one barrel left; we jumped on it of course. It was happy hour, so the first cocktail I ordered was dirt cheap at $9. It was the Imperial Hawaiian with gin, rum, lemon, pineapple, and orgeat. I really shouldn't have ordered a second drink after that one, but I did have the classic Saturn later on in the night and it was absurdly good! Definitely my favorite of the two. The restaurant wasn't surprisingly too busy and was pretty family-friendly. I was so excited to take a bite into my first CA tacos! As I settled in and opened the menu, full transparency: I was shocked to see the "happy hour specials: $7 tacos"... regularly $14!? Thinking these HAD to be next-level incredible, I stopped judging and ordered two "Birria" tacos, two "traditional Carnitas" tacos, and a "crispy shell Ground Beef" taco. We paired our tacos with their "Classic" house Margarita. Chips and salsa were brought to the table with our drinks, and we enjoyed those for a bit before the food came out. I wish I were writing this to report that I had the best tacos of my life, but sadly, that's not the case. The Birria taco had an excessive amount of untrimmed fat in the meat, which made each bite unpleasant and forced me to spit out pieces I couldn't chew. This made the overall texture unappealing and the experience disappointing. Not my preferred way to enjoy my tacos. I don't believe this was an issue of happy hour pricing, but rather poor food preparation. I was only able to finish one taco and took the other to-go. As for the traditional carnitas taco, it was okay but lacked anything that set it apart. I say this with kindness, but if you've had a TB crunchy taco supreme, you've tried this restaurant's crispy shell ground beef taco. The classic margaritas were strong and well made. We thoroughly enjoyed them! If you asked me, would I go back for seconds? I'd likely not reorder the tacos. For the price, I expected higher-quality preparation and presentation; instead, it fell short. Personally, I'm glad I visited during Happy Hour. I'd file this one under cool place for drinks and a light bite, if you must.
