Me and my girls were so excited to have a night out and made reservations daysss in advance for outdoor seating. We got notified day of that there is no outdoor seating and when we got to the restaurant, we were told if we wanted to sit outside we would have to wait. The host was honestly rude and not accommodating when it was their lack of preparation and coordination. We had to wait another 25 minutes when we arrived at the restaurant to be seated. After being seated, our waitress and the customers and service were severely slow. There was only 1 waitress for a whole section of the restaurant, so she was getting pulled left and right. (Not her fault) Food took about 25ish minutes to arrive once ordering and the food was alright as we got the hummus, risotto, and tomato bread. I've never really had trouble setting up a reservation here and as much as I'd like to keep this place a "hidden gem", it really is a place worth sharing as it scratches the very rare itch of rooftop bar/restaurants that San Diego strangely seems to be lacking in. The "new" Garibaldi is a fresh take on Mediterranean, but seems more elevated compared to other "Med" restaurants in SD. The patio deck offers beautiful views of The Midway, Harbor and sunset. The service was attentive and he gave helpful recommendations for navigating the menu. The dishes we ordered seemed very different than your typical Mediterranean of hummus and kabobs. The plating was well thought out and I could tell the chef was experienced in using unique ingredients. We loved the whipped feta, lamb lollipops, and Iberico Pork with hen of the woods mushrooms, so interesting and cooked perfectly. Garibaldi has one of the best wine menus, featuring organic wines from Coastal Regions around the Med. What a great spot to watch the sunset! I discovered this spot on Instagram, not knowing what to expect. You check in just past the normal boat check in for the main restaurant. Then the host took you through a little hallway to get to the outdoor seating which had a perfect view of the harbor. I had a Hugo Spritz which I enjoyed. For appetizers, I should have asked for clarification on the menu because I did not realize the Pissaladière had anchovies, which I absolutely hated. I just found out this place exists! My husband took me here as we were in the area. We arrived right when they opened at 4:30 on a thursday. We got really lucky it was a beautiful sunny day and they had us on the table tops overlooking the ocean. Our server, Abraham, was so kind, knowledgeable, and cheerful. He really added to our experience. He even walked us through the side Garden which is where they saw some of their garnishes and other herbs and vegetables. We ordered a variety of appetizers, I am still dreaming of their cheese plate. This is literally one of the best cheese plates I've ever had in my whole life! They also have well crafted cocktails. It's apparently their speakeasy, and let me tell you, finding the entrance is a whole thing - you need some lady in front of a yellow Vespa to get in, lol. But once you're there, it's got one of the best views of the bay. If you're with a small party, I seriously recommend grabbing a seat at the rail; you can even reserve that specific spot via Resy. I happened to arrive during their happy hour, which runs between 5 PM and sunset - pretty generous! I was definitely drawn to the happy hour menu, which, unfortunately, kept me from diving into the dinner menu, but I'll need to go back for that soon. I ordered the jalapeño margarita, which was divine, and for eight bucks a pop, it was a great deal. I also got the Arancini, these fried meatballs that were really good and surprisingly filling. I also grabbed some oysters for two dollars each, not bad at all, as well as the Grandma Pie, which is their Sicilian-style pizza. Think of it like a more bougie version of Little Caesars Detroit style, thick pizza. Overall, the happy hour pricing was decent, and the food was okay. I expected a bit more, honestly. However, I didn't get to try their pastas, which I hear are awesome, so I'm going to give this place somewhere between 3.5 and 4 stars for now. Will definitely come back to try those pastas! Happy Hour (until Sunset): Garibaldi Oysters - OMG the smoked trout caviar takes this to the next level. Unbelievably delicious. Tartare di Tonno - This dish was fresh & spicy! Calamari Fritto Misto - Nice crisp on the calamari and green beans. Torta Gattopardo - This was surprisingly light and flavorful. Amati Frizz - I loved this refreshing drink so much that I ordered two! Free validated parking for 3 hours if you spend at least 50 dollars. They should have cooked the tomatoes a little, or even warmed them to soften them up, maybe sprinkled some salt atop them!! We even had to order another starter of focaccia just to have some bread to go with it.... Not impressed by the presentation. The drinks were strong, very well made in my opinion. There's something funny about calling a place a speakeasy when you can see it from the street. Garibaldi is "hidden" behind Vistal in the Intercontinental. Follow the fish and look for the little Vespa towards your entrance. The restaurant has a beautiful patio and even if it isn't quite secretive, the views are amazing! We made reservations around sunset and were seated on along the railing so we got a prime view of the sun hitting the water. I believe the manager took care of us and gave us a simple yet informative tour about the restaurant's history and uniqueness, including all arts and theme. It's truly beautiful and one of a kind. We were seated at the outside bar facing the water, it was a great view and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Happy hour menu was very limited but very adequate. I've heard so many good things about these smokey roe oysters ($1.5 each, what a steal) and oh boy I couldn't wait to get my hands on them. The fizzy HH drink was also great deal. There's no beating that. Both were delicious and soooo much value! The calamari and tuna tartare we could do without because lots of dough on the calamari and tuna tartare was kind of bland.
