I came in and found a cute bistro with excellent service. I was seated properly and the staff was very attentive. I ordered the pancakes assuming it would be enough food. 2 pancakes for $16 is expensive but I heard these pancakes were excellent, even some of the best in the city. These pancakes were TINY. Incredible dinner service. Chez Ma Tante exceeded my expectations. I was seated by a window indoors. The early evening is quiet and then it got busier. Great place for a date night or to impress parents or out of towners. Food was memorable. I loved the scallop, fries, manchego, the chicken liver pâté was delicious with bread and butter. Incredible! Came here while visiting family in the city. My cousin is actually the one that made the reservation. This is the best brunch I have ever had period. The pancakes were crispy and light and fluffy on the inside - they were buttery and had a hint of salt. Not too sweet. I literally do not like pancakes because I dislike sweet breakfast, so this really says something. Make a reservation as soon as times open, as it can be hard to get in. Upon walking in, you are greeted while a relatively small (but not Four Horsemen small) space that is super cozy and cute, perfect for a nice Saturday morning brunch. Both my friend and I heard some amazing things about their pancakes, so we put in one order to share along with some Caesar salad and their beans in mushroom ragu. All of it was SUPER solid; loved the mushroomy broth of the bean dish and the Caesar salad was super cheesy with crispy lettuce leaves. But omg the pancakes...those hit hard! Been dying to return since they reopened and I am glad the quality of food and service has remained as good as I remembered and perhaps it 's even better now! Loved the ambiance and overall feel of the restaurant. It was a busy Saturday evening but my guests and I were still able to have a nice and quiet dinner while being able to converse without raising our voices. We had the Parisian ham and chicken pate as apps and the pork shoulder, fennel sausage and steak as main courses. All very tasteful and very nicely presented. Portions were also very appropriate. I had the best service experience here. When the staff saw me roll up to the restaurant (which has two steps at the entrance), the staff instantly retrieved a ramp. I explained that I wanted to sit outdoors anyway, to which they responded "we'll just keep it close by in case you need the restroom!" Walk don't run to Chez Ma Tante before they close for renovations! Easily one of my favorite restaurants in the city that I'll miss while it's away. They've earned the 5 stars from me on multiple occasions. Walking in to Chez Ma Tante, you're greeted with the buzz of chatter, beautiful light fixtures, and friendly faces that all signal a good time. I recommend a cocktail--their list is usually on the classic side of inventive but always really well put together and with a small twist of ingredients that keeps things fresh. Service is consistently excellent, helpful, friendly and just the right touch. The food is sublime. I've never had a dish here that I didn't think was cooked to perfection. We can't go without pigs head terrine (think the most succulent corned beef-like thing you've ever had) when we come, but the rest of the menu we treat as a rotating delight. Most recently, really well executed smoked white fish that came adored with fish roe to elevate a simple dish, stracciatella with charred cabbage that is just begging to go on their wonderful bread, and duck leg confit that just melted away with the perfect decadent sauce. A word on the sauce generally: it's the consistently the best I've had anywhere in the city. Whatever dish a sauce touches at Chez Ma Tante comes together effortlessly. Dessert is always a delight--most recently, almond tart that was just the right sweetness and texture and a buttermilk panna cotta with pickled grapes that was phenomenal. The wine list is notable too--natural choices range from elegant to more on the natty side, but always managing to complement the food. Get it while it's hot, I think they may still have a couple of bottles of this Jura number, J'en veux encore!!! that their somm worked hard on an allocation for. We made a reservation for a weekend brunch after seeing their viral pancakes on tiktok. Come to find out none of us love pancakes that much so we were hoping it would still be worth it to go. It was so good and came with whipped cream. The pancakes were indeed as good as everyone says they are! They were two fluffy pancakes and splitting that with 4 people was the perfect way to get a sweet taste before a savory main meal. All of the main meals were incredible. Came for the pancakes but took back a lot more. The aim of the brunch was to try their very much spoken about pancakes. So we cut to the chase and started with a light appetizer making our way to the glorified stack. What took us by surprise was that the Salmon appetizer. It was a 5/5 and came with some lightly pickled onions, creme fraiche, and a super crispy and delicious cracker. Wish I had more of that. This appetizer was subtle, fresh, and simplistically divine. The pancakes (5/5) came next, which looked manageable to be tackled by one, but the best decision was to share the order because of how indulgent and satisfying even half an order was. The texture of the pancakes was a cross between an actual cake and a regular pancake. Each round was supremely buttery in addition to the dollop of butter it came with, and supremely sweet, with the edges caramelized to perfection. This stack is the definition of indulgent and heavier to the stomach than the eyes can judge. I would not compare this to a regular stack and say this is more of a dessert piece. That being said, I do think that everyone must experience this at least once in their lifetime because of how unique and indulgent it was. If I had to compare the taste and texture to another item I've tried over the years, the closest would be an Indian dessert called Gulab Jamun, which is a round ball of dough deep fried and then soaked in sugar syrup for hours. These were yummy but very dense and rich, probably better to share than to eat a whole plate (2 pancakes) by yourself. We shared a few different dishes, including their famous pancakes, everything was delicious and flavorful. Items are on the smaller side, great for sharing. We just walked in so it was bar or heated outside seating- which was completely comfortable on this chilly night and spaced so well so that it was a lovely ambiance that afforded conversation antithesis of the clean interior that was thriving. We shared the banana hammock and the ground control cocktails that were excellent. Followed by sautéed bed of umami anchovy kale with straciatella- this creamy milk thin spread drizzled w olive oil for balance. Personally I like them separate but together they were great teammates. So very lovely- a definite repeat. We opted for the kedgeree- a curry rice with steamed cod and parboiled eggs topped with entire chopped celery bits and cracked pepper. THIS was gold. Absolutely incredible. We didn't need anything else but we shared the silken olive oil chocolate cake with and creme fraiche. It was as bitter as a dark chocolate can get, balanced with just enough sugar and a generous scoop of cream topped with granules of sea salt.
