We've been ordering from Chiangmai 2-3 times a month for the past couple years. While I'm totally willing to allow business leeway post-covid, there are issues that have been going on since well before the pandemic. The food is generally good, although the spice level is inconsistent at best, most of the times not spicy at all regardless of the order. Employees are often dismissive and quoted wait times generally inaccurate, the only thing consistent about this place is that it's a frustrating experience. read more

We ordered online from this business and so I got to pick up my order. As soon as I get in the door and tell them who the order is for they are bringing me a credit card reader to pay for shrimp. Which I did whiteout issue. I wait for the food take it home and discover our salads are wrong and they have forgotten my food. So I call them, I have to drive all the way back across town to pick up an order they forgot. They can't refund it because the "don't know how" but rest assured if you owe them a penny they will meet you at the door with the credit card machine. They can't offer a refund, can't make a delivery, can't do anything to fix the situation. They can just take your money and let you fix THEIR mistake. Piss poor. Oh they will call the manager and let him know. Psh DO NOT do business with people who don't value their product. read more

Placed order through Yelp, which goes through grub hub. Got a confirmation email and paid. Went in, magically no one can find my order. 15 minutes later it's been decided it's not their fault, the order got cancelled by someone else. They didn't have the order, yet instead of asking what was ordered so they could start the order and get it done, they just cost themselves business and blamed me. I called grubhub, the restaurant employees took too long to confirm the order on their end. No wonder. Barely half full restaurant, 3 employees standing around barely working and not one of them could confirm an order, or take an order when they realized they didn't have it. This is what awarding mediocrity does. Will no longer ever come back. read more

This is our second time here. We arrived at 6:50 pm on a Sunday. We were seated right away. The waitress came by about 5 minutes after being seated and we ordered 3 waters, fried pot stickers, and our 3 main courses at the same time. 25 minutes later I had to remind the waitress about our drinks. About 10 minutes later our water and pot stickers arrived. This is ridicules. I just over heard one of the staff say they prioritize to go orders over those seated. The pot stickers were warm and not even hot. We will not be coming back. So 2 out of the 3 dishes arrived at 7:40 pm. Aww here is the finale dish at 7:45. We asked for the ticket once the finale dish arrived. Keandre said she was sorry but the kitchen is really busy. Guess the kitchen being busy slows the flow of water as well. They use a digital handheld ticket writer and while Keandre the waitress was waiting for use to fill it out she impatiently tapped her foot. As far as the food was concerned it was good with the perfect amount of spice for me. If you are looking to eat within the hour I do not recommend this place. I will give one star just because the food is good. read more

This used to be a favorite spot. Portions are significantly smaller. Shrimp Pad Thai used to have 10-12 large shrimp, which allowed me to take 1/2 home for a second meal. Last time I got 5 shrimp and fewer noodles for the same price. Doubt I'll go back. When you're on SSI it's hard to justify the price. Service is sometimes great. Sometimes lousy. :( read more

Tom Yum Prawn is DELICIOUS I choose spice level 3 out of 5 and next time I'm tempted to choose a 4. The pineapple fried rice is my Dad's favorite. If you eat at the restaurant, this dish is presented inside half a pineapple! The presentation has a definite wow-factor and the flavor/taste is excellent as well. Pad Woo Sen with Seafood is a personal favorite. It's lighter than lo-mein and (for me) preferred over pad thai any day. The seafood version comes with scallops, fish, and squid. If you have someone who flat out doesn't like Thai, I would suggest the Garlic Fried Rice. My hubs is a picky eater and not a fan of Thai in the least. Garlic fried rice was a win as he ate his entire dish. The only qualm I have are the prices. Expect to pay at least $10-$15 per entree. Maybe I'm paying a premium for fresh ingredients and/or quality in food - which I don't mind. Just don't expect a cost conscious dinner. This spot is great for friends, family, date night, or a solo meal for one. read more

We first ate here several years ago and have done so since a time or two. There are not many Thai food options int this area. This restaurant is open for many more convenient hours for most people than is the other local Thai place. We have tried the appetizer of Fried Spring Rolls which were very good with or without the sauce. We have tried the Chicken Satay appetizer which is chicken on sticks grilled and came with 2 sauces: a peanut type and cucumber type. We have tried entrees of Pad Thai both Beef and Shrimp with the Shrimp being far better than the Beef. We have also tried appetizers of Fried Rice both the Crab Fried Rice and Pineapple Fried Rice.....both delicious. The Pineapple Fried Rice should win an award for presentation. The setting is in that corner by old Mervyn's/Burlington where Which Wich was a long time ago. They try hard inside with a lot of decorations......gives it a feel of that province in Thailand they try to represent=Chiangmai. read more

This place should be rated way higher than it is. Starting off their boba, and Thai coffees are sooooo good. all the app's are good but the spring rolls are a favorite. for entrées the fried rice, pad thai, and pineapple curry are great! just make sure to get a 1 or 2 on spice the first time as it can get very spicy. Haven't had their desserts yet but plan to soon. restaurant is decorated fantastic and always has music playing. everyone that works here is always friendly and service is great.if you are ever in the area definitely give thai kitchen a try! read more

We stoped in Tyler and wanted to try Thai food. We ordered SUPER GRILL, Crispy Tilapia and Spicy duck. Shrimp in Super grill is good size but steak is actually just slice beef for sautéed dish as seen in the picture I posted, Tilapia is may be a Little bit dry but that how I like . I'm pretty disappointed about the house sauce I'm Thai so I know restaurants can do better sauce than this . My husband said duck taste a little sour we had only half of the dish because it's too greasy for me and the duck doesn't taste fresh. Nothing Wow about the place . read more

Very consistent, polite and exceptional food. Very few places have I found that Thai Hot (5) is actually hot. It's usually mediocre at best. This place does it right! I've done more takeaway than dining in and the are always spot on whenever they tell you when your order will be ready. Dining in is what you expected pre-COVID at restaurants with excellent service. I'm not sure if this is family owned but they are doing it right and it shows they care about their staff's presentation and demeanor with customers. Even the difficult ones. read more

Very unprofessionally ran. Tried to call in a order and was told I couldn't , when I came in I saw a women on the phone taking orders over the phone???? Stood at the door for 15 min before being approached and was finally able to place my Togo order with another gentlemen who was just as frustrated as I was. while I was waiting the serving staff were gossiping and joking around with each other not paying any mind to the line of customers that were coming through the door and making snarky comments . Even overheard a girl saying " I'm so ready to quit this sh*t and I have to work tomorrow" They have no respect for the paying customers that come in and it's clear this restaurant is very poorly staffed and ran. Thai food in Tyler, Texas {shaking my head}. Yep, for reals, kids- Tyler has a new Thai joint. Since moving to Texas in 2011, I haven't found one Thai restaurant that's worth a damn. One of the only things I miss about walking out of my condo door on Lawrence Ave. in Chicago, is that there were literally Thai restaurants on every corner. And damn good ones, at that. Fast forward- 5 years into Texas fun, and I'm obviously a skeptic anytime I see a Thai restaurant, in any location, in the Lonestar state. I hadn't entered Chiangmai Thai Kitchen, solely because I thought I'd be disappointed. Fear no mas, young yelpers. Here's a brief rundown: Wife went basic and had the Cashew Nut chicken, I went with the Prik Khing, and my 5 year old sampled the Pot Stickers, which he really enjoyed. In fact, all of us enjoyed the food, as it was about as authentic as you'll find- perfect spices (which is important with Thai food), and generous portions. Want a glass of wine, or a beer with your dinner? Of course we do, and they have you covered. Friendly service, really good food, with excellent flavor, and generous portions. A tad pricey- but hey, this is a high rent district. Can't wait to return. read more

I have been to this restaurant several times. The food on almost every occasion has been delicious, and on the few other occasions it has been satisfactory. What is NOT satisfactory is the cleanliness. I let it slide a couple of times, chalking it up to bad nights/busy nights. But when the place is still dirty, tables are still not bused, insects are still crawling around (roaches, flies, beetles, etc. on 3 separate occasions personally witnessed), on nights that are not busy.... well, then there is a problem. I have heard of instances where employees were caught not washing their hands after using the restroom (#2, btw!) and then returning to the kitchen to prepare someones food with their fecal matter on their hands. There is no excuse for that. That is simpler than basics for working in a restaurant and functioning in a society. When the wait staff prefers to sit and play on their phones instead of attending to customers and/or cleaning up the restaurant (which I have seen firsthand), it is no longer just a bad night: it is apathy and carelessness. Granted, this is not every single person on staff; there are some who work very hard and want to make the customer's dining experience pleasant. But as hard as they work, they cannot affect things the way they need to be affected. The owners need to change the way they run this restaurant or close it down. read more

Had a late lunch here today at 2pm, well after the lunch rush. Upon entering there was a sign "wait to be seated." The restaurant had about 6 tables of customers, about a dozen folks within. Ten minutes of waiting without any acknowledgement from staff. We were basically invisible until a bus boy came over and asked if we were waiting on a to go order. Told him no, we were here to eat. Another 5 minutes pass and we were seated. Twelve minutes later, a waitress came by to let us know she'll be back to take our order. Finally, at 15 minutes at table, we placed our order. We eat at various Changmai owned restaurants in Tyler. The food is very good. However, with FDs and Abuelos next door, i doubt i will ever wait this long again. Four stars for food quality Zero stars for service. I have a feeling that management was off today. read more

I'm upgrading my review from the previous 2 stars to 3 stars but make no mistake, this Thai food is not great. Service was marginally better than our first visit but it took 10 minutes to get our check after we asked. The server didn't come back so I had to ask someone else to cash us out. When the check came we were charged for fried egg rolls when we ordered the Thai spring rolls. We were charged $1 extra but didn't fight it. Here's the rub--Chiangmai isn't worth it to me. I get much better Thai food in Dallas or Plano so I won't be going back to this restaurant. read more

We were shopping in Tyler and thought we'd give Chiangmai a try for lunch. It's located in a fairly large shopping center, across from Bed Bath and Beyond. The restaurant was clean and the service was fast and courteous. We started with egg rolls. They were hot and crispy, loaded with meat and veg, and served with what we took to be chili oil for dipping. I ordered the pineapple fried rice and my husband ordered the duck noodle soup. Both entrees were served in generous portions, and both were delicious. The pineapple fried rice was recommended by our server, and it came in a hollowed out pineapple shell, which made for an impressive presentation! Next time we're in Tyler, we'll definitely go to Chiangmai again. read more

Solid Thai food with good variety. Spicy and flavorful. My favorite curry here are Mussaman Curry. If that isn't your thing, try Cashew Nut or Thai Basil. Both excellent choices. For noodles go for the Pad See Ewe or Pad Woon Sen. Hint: It is hard to find by name. It is located around the corner from FD's across the parking lot from Bed, Bath, & Beyond. Look for big letters that say Thai Kitchen. That's it. Changmai is a tiny sign. read more

Visiting Tyler and felt like having Thai food so decided to order delivery thru DoorDash. My favorite Thai food are pad won sen and tom kha soup, so literally ordered this 2 items . The pad won sen is very salty, felt like eating bunch of salt or soy sauce. Also it supposed to be grass noodle but what I got is rice noodle. The tom kha is tasteless. I am not sure if other items are as bad as these 2 but if they can't make these taste good, I have no confidence on others as well. read more

We visited for the first time today. We ordered four appetizers and one entree. The pot stickers were very good, as were the fried shrimp rolls. The shu mai was tasty but could use a little more spice. The fish cakes are simply outstanding. I could eat these until I pop. The entree was Shrimp Pad Ped, which was excellent. It was very flavorful, with interesting vegetables and shrimp that was not overcooked. I will definitely return, which is my biggest compliment. read more

I haven't had a good Pad Thai in a long time. This Chicken Pad Thai was very good, and plentiful. I ordered my pad thai a little bit too mild, which was my own fault. My server, Zach, asked me if I wanted the heat level to be a three, four or five and I was a little wishy-washy on how hot to make it. He used the three and I should probably have ordered a 5. Zack brought me some homemade chili sauce which helped a lot. My favorite soup is hot and sour soup, but I wanted to try something new that I had never tried before, so I ordered the coconut soup. The soup is fragrant with huge chunks of mushroom and other veggies, but I have never cared much for a sweet entree. So the soup is a little too sweet for me but I enjoyed the mushrooms that are in it. The Chicken Satay was sliced very thin which made it a little overcooked. All together the food was plentiful Pad Thai was very good. For those who enjoy something sweet I'm sure they would have enjoyed the coconut soup better than I did. Highly recommend checking this place out! My husband and I came in for dinner on a Saturday night and were pleasantly surprised by the abundance of vegan items. They list a green "v" next to items that are already vegan without substitutions and also have a "House Specialties" portion of the menu where the entire page of entrees can be made vegan. We ordered the basil fried rice and the massaman curry. Both were delicious, but the curry was a little sweet for me. I'll probably try a yellow curry next time! read more

My family has been to Chiangmai many times, and we really love it! I live in San Diego, and I'm pretty picky about Thai food, so I didn't have high hops for Chiangmai. I was pleasantly surprised on my first visit, and continue to find the food every bit as good as what we get in California!
