This is now my 3rd (!!!) review of Chiang's and this place still reigns supreme. My family has been coming here for over 10 years now, and I make a point of having a meal here every time I come back to visit Seattle. It's still the same friendly people and the same welcoming atmosphere. I am SO happy that they survived the pandemic, although I guess I shouldn't be surprised since they've always had a pretty robust takeout customer base. All my old favorites are still consistently great--the jajiangmian, the mushu pork or vegetable, the dry fried string beans, the wu geng chang wang (blood tofu and pork intestine in a spicy sauce), the mei cai kou rou (pork belly with mustard greens), the taro spare ribs...and if you're into it, the stinky tofu is pretty good here, too. The woman who runs the place is always coming by with pro tips on how to best eat your leftovers, which I think is awesome. MIC DROP PLEASE! I am so in love with this place it isn't funny. I have walked by this place 100's of times and never stepped foot into this Chinese food heaven of a place! I literately believe this is the best Chinese food in Seattle. The Salt-N-Pepper prawns are absolutely delectable, the green beans are flavor-packed, and last but not least...THE SPICY CHICKEN! Everyone was hungry before I had a chance to take photos. Best meal I have to say. We did come in after 2:30PM. But I have to say they are super tasty. Fresh ingredients with superb prepping. Every single dish is unique. (1) Honey walnut prawn - lightly breaded deep fried prawns with very lightly coated sauce accompany with crunchy walnut. (2) Shredded pork with dried bean curd & yellow leeks - yellow leeks flavor definitely penetrated thru out the dish. Soft and tasty tofu with enough browning pork without drying the whole dish. Not greasy nor swimming in sauce. Just perfect. (3) Salt & pepper pork chop - omg!! The best pork chop I ever have!! I am not foodie. But coming from family who used to own restaurant and trying so many different S&P pork chop dishes. It's the right thickness without over drying. Lightly breaded deep fried pork chop with light salt taste and thin crunchiness outside with moist and well marinated inside. Perfect balance. The S&P with basil on top completed the taste. (4) Black mushroom, snow peas , broccoli in brown sauce - another tasty veggie dish with enough sauce to coat the veggies and yet maintain the freshness/crispiness. (5) Bean curd & bean curd tripe with hot sauce in hotpot - I have never had this dish ever before. This one is supposed to be well known with pig intestines and such. I have major mental block eating anything with intestine, liver, and such. I was glad it had veggie version. So decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, family members can't tolerant the spiciness. This dish was requested without any spice. Wish I would have the spicy one. This one is okay for me. I believe it is also missing basil. It is great on the rice with its brown sauce and tofu/veggies. A bit of too saltiness in my opinion without the subtle sweet taste for balance. Bottom line, food is yummy. We admit that togo typically compromise the freshness and tastes comparing to dining in. I used to like this place, and decided to give it a try tonight. Suffice to say I was deeply disappointed, and honestly feel ripped off. Almost $100 spent on mediocre food that seemed overcooked, overly-breaded, and just genuinely cheap. The Peking Duck was a mess, with overcooked skin and flour tortillas instead of fluffy white buns. The sweet and sour prawns was just a box of deep fried shrimp, and no vegetables of any kind. I asked for "no onion", but I assume they left both green pepper and pineapple out as well. The worst offender by far though was the small size Wonton Soup. I'm enclosing a photo of what I got for my $9.00. Yes, that is a single wonton, suspended in about three oz of bland broth. Great authentic Chinese food. The building is old and run down but the food is out of bounds. There is no equal to their hand pulled noodles! Even in San Fransisco China town. Do not be fooled by the outside appearance! This place is an absolute gem. The food is one of the most authentic Chinese I've had in Seattle. They are also one of the few places I've found that serve "Chinese breakfast" (non dimsum) meaning the fried crullers (油條), sweet soymilk (甜豆漿), salty soymilk (鹹豆漿), stuffed rice rolls (飯糰) not to mention delicious 流沙包! Make sure to go on the weekend during the morning/lunch time to enjoy these! We've also had their zha jiang noodles which are amazing. Very qq noodles and great flavor. Another item we've been able to find here that is more unique is stinky tofu (臭豆腐). If you're wanting to have authentic delicious Chinese food this is the place to go. Chiang's has been on my list for a looooong time! We finally went a few weeks ago. It doesn't seem like much from the outside but don't let that fool you. They have a huge parking lot, which is nice! They were pretty busy when we came but service was fast and friendly! We ordered: Steamed dumplings- These were okay. I love dumplings so I am going to enjoy them no matter what but they weren't anything special, just standard. Home made pan fried noodle- These were really good! I definitely recommend them. Huge portion and so tasty! Twice cooked pork- I'm pretty sure this is what we ordered. It was super crispy pork and it was delish! I recommend this dish too! The duck- This was the WORST duck I have ever ordered LOL it wasn't peking duck, I think it's the duck with veggies on the menu? For one, it was not crispy at all. So maybe it's just boiled? I have NO IDEA! I ate one bite and that was it. It was full of bone and cartilage and like the texture of a 1/2 cooked duck. IDK, I would not recommend it tho (see pic). Have celebrated special occasions there numerous times and it's my go-to whenever out-of-town guests visits. If you're looking for bland food that attempts to mimic Szechuan, this is not the place. It's pretty flavorful here. It's not a greasy meal that leaves you feeling gross afterwards either. I only get take out from here, but I always tip 20%. This place has changed hand when the original owner retired but menu and staff pretty much stayed the same. It explained why there are so many repeat customers. It is the northern style Chinese cooking and you will be lucky if you can find a good one in Seattle. I am going to change my review after having a lunch special today. To go and extremely well priced at $7.15 ( w/tax) and that included soup, rice and your protein. I ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken and it was cut nice and not all over fried like others do it. I attached a picture. The fried rice was tasty and sauce on side . The young man working was having a hard time smiling and didn't seem like he wanted to be there but he could have been having a bad day, we all get them and he wasn't rude just wasn't thrilled to help me. Fantastic Chinese comfort food. I tried a big variety of foods from handmade noodles to potstickers, roasted duck, shaobing, etc. I mainly ate Northern Chinese or Tawainese dishes but they also do Cantonese and have dim sum on the weekends. The portions are big and not expensive. The quality of food is much better and bigger than name brand restaurants like DingTaiFung or DoughZone. I highly recommend this restaurant. I ordered a Pan fried Vermicelli Singapore style which you can still see the curry powder on the Vermicelli with a sandy texture. The Taiwanese Bean curd sheets tasted like some dried rubber toys.
