Loved our first time here, and we will be back to try their dim sum lunch with the revolving trays. We were craving Asian food, specifically Sichuan or dim sum, to help us wind down after a busy weekend. We had already walked out of another restaurant nearby in Ballard that not only looked gross, but we didn't even get so much as a hello after 5 minutes of sitting there. Thankfully, we decided to try again, and the second we walked in, the servers here were all so lovely. It seemed like the servers knew most of the folks here, and you could tell it's a community spot. I loved the decor, which was so on theme with the bamboo pillars, green bamboo decor, and traditional paintings throughout. Lovely atmosphere and super clean. We ordered a ton of 5 dishes because we were pretty hungry, and the servers were shocked we ate most of it, haha. Ordered (refer to receipt for specific pricing): Steamed BBQ Pork Bun - these were huge, the portions are so generous. One bun is the size of like two buns at other places. These were delicious, we devoured them because they were served super fresh. Shrimp and Chives Dumpling - these were so yum! From the pictures, I knew I would like them, and I was right. The sesame seeds and gummy shell made a delicious add-on to the filling. Ours came out steamy and perfectly crispy on the outside, omg so good! Seven Flavor Beef - The menu notes this is their specialty, and yes, omg so delicious! Major flavor, the only thing is I wish ours was a little crispier, but other than that, we're definitely ordering this dish again. Hong Kong Style Chow Mein - we ordered this thinking the noodles would be thicker, but sadly no. The noodles were pan-fried style. We were told this before we ordered, but I ordered it anyway and kind of wish we had ordered something else. If you like a lot of sauce and pan-fried noodles, this dish will be a hit. Loved the variety and freshness of the veggies, though. The little mushrooms were so fun to eat. Chow Mein Beef-this was yummy too, flavor was as you'd expect. Plum wine - was yum, first time trying it and I like how light it is, perfect pairing for our dim sum. Not too sweet either, which is what I expected. Egg tarts - were delicious. We devoured them even though we were already pretty full. Side note shout-out for their spicy table oil- yum, I loved that it was crunchy and smoky. Not a typical flavor you would get at other restaurants. Highly recommend you try. We'll be back, omg, so yum, and the place is huge with private parking. This longtime decades restaurant has been under new ownership and management for about a year, so I'm hopeful they'll continue refining things as they move forward. The good: Bright, clean dining room, friendly service, plenty of seating, FREE parking, and it's great to still have a dim sum option in Wallingford. The misses: Several dishes lacked flavor, seasoning or the traditional textures I enjoy. The fried calamari was slightly over-fried, chewy and not as tender as I'd hoped--and I was surprised to see the $20 full-size charge when I ordered the $9.95 dim sum portion. That definitely needs clarification. The Hong Kong-style fried noodles with chicken had nice stir-fried ingredients but were very bland. Maybe because my friend requested no MSG? The lotus-leaf sticky rice had good flavor but was disappointing without the usual generous chunks of mushroom, chicken and Chinese sausage inside. The steamed chicken feet were a nice size with plenty of collagen-rich skin, but the sauce tasted more like a sweet BBQ sauce--not my favorite for chicken feet. The scallop and shrimp dumpling was essentially a ground seafood ball, and I wasn't a fan of that texture. The fried skin Tofo vegetable wrap was good and different, but really needed a good dipping sauce. And, Say, WHAT... NO duck sauce?! The standouts: The fried meat-filled "football" hom suey gawk was my favorite--FRIED crispy, mochi-chewy rice-flour with tasty morsels of meat inside. The DUM SUM 1/2 size portion garlic pea vines were also fresh, flavorful and nicely portioned. $11 vs $22 I'm glad Bamboo Village is here and appreciate the clean space, friendly service and convenient parking. With new ownership and management, I'm wishing them well and hoping they continue to improve the seasoning, ingredients, consistency and execution. Ordered mapo tofu, Mongolian beef, sesame chicken, and a small order of rice for takeout. Total was $62. The mapo tofu had the nice spicy tingle, but I don't think there was any ground pork or beef in it (compared to what was in the dish under the previous ownership). The Mongolian beef was surprisingly spicy, I liked it! The sesame chicken was dry and tough. I wouldn't recommend this. I hope the new owners succeed. I miss Crystal and the old team! read more

Absolutely raucous family dinner of about 25 people after I had told them that 20 would show up. Luckily we were the only party in there for a lot of the night. The space was already tight for 20 and our two tables were bursting at the seams with the extra people. We ordered what felt like one of everything on the menu, including the dinner menu and dim sum menu. The kung pao tofu was a surprise hit, and we got two extra orders of shrimp har gao after the first. Pepper beef, beef chow fun, szechuan chicken, sesame chicken, all hits. Nothing knocked our socks off, everything was pretty greasy/heavy, and there was some weird friction between some of our party and some of the staff, but I do have to give them an extra star for staying cool while we went bananas. read more

Got take out from here a few nights ago and can't wait to get back the dine in next time. We were really impressed with our items, and again this was takeout. We got the Hong Kong chow mein, combo fried rice, and orange chicken. The chow mein was unique and yummy and the rice was nice a flavorful. What was the most impressive was the orange chicken. It was fried to a crisp, and remained that way through the ride home. It was unbelieveably scrumptions, well balanced, and a joy to eat. They have an extensive menu that also includes dim sum as well! The restaurant reminds me the old school Chinese restaurants that I used to eat at as a child in CA. There are tables and booths and they all have the small tea cups on top of them. It is also clean and spacious inside. The service was quick, but the lady who helped me was really nice, cheerful, and I could tell appreciative of the business. Next time I will be dining in for some dim sum. Went here with a few coworkers after a morning playing tennis as it was walking distance from the upper woodland courts. We came in on a saturday at 1130 am and seated ourselves and it was not super busy. There was booths along the side and circle tables in the middle of the restaurant. We decided to go dimsum style with around 6 dimsum platters and salt and pepper wings. The highlights were the siu mai and the har gow where the portions were really big and were flavorful. The less known dishes, vegetable spring rolls (super oily) and the lava buns (lukewarm) were not as great, but the classic dim sum dishes are super good. read more

Met a former co-worker here for dim sum. We got the usual items including siu mai, har gow, sticky rice and pork spring rolls. Pan fried chive dumplings and pork egg rolls were standouts for me. Not pictured are the soy sauce noodles, which came out a little oily for my taste. The curry chicken and BBQ pork pastries are reserved for weekend only. This is the type of place you order with the server and there are pictured menus. They do not have push carts. They also have a dedicated parking lot. Stopped in late afternoon Sunday because it was chilly and soup and dim sum sounded like a good idea. It turned into an eat-in and take-out after the family called and asked us to bring dinner. We started with sizzling rice soup, which was hearty and delicious. Huge variety of proteins, soft mushrooms, crispy fresh vegetables. Then, the steaming hot chow mein and baby bok choi hit the table and were perfectly cooked and so good! Then, they brought us the parsley shrimp dumplings, steamed to perfection and bursting with fillings. The chive dumplings were fried and the tofu wrap with the subtle taste of mushrooms were superb. Take home was crispy salt and pepper wings, fried rice with fresh vegetables and plenty of leftovers from the table. Can't wait to try the other dishes on the menu, which is huge, by the way. This is one of my go-to spots for Dim Sum. Their menu is small but does not lack in flavor. I can find all my favorite things here: chicken feet, ha gao, pork buns, spare ribs, porridge, and others to boot. I love coming here with a large group and getting just about everything on the menu. Pricing is good - usually comes out to be about $30/person and we are very satisfied and full at the end. Service is good and everyone is really friendly and accommodating. I have also come here for dinner and I've enjoyed their dinner combos too and their American Chinese food is quite tasty. read more

You can tell this restaurant is family owned and run. The dim sum is pretty good for the neighborhood. The service was a little slow, but we got everything we needed. There were some hits and misses for the dim sum, and they didn't have everything you'll traditionally see on dim sum menus. Dropped by since my husband loves Singapore noodles and they had it on their menu. Restaurant was fairly empty when we went at 6:30pm on a summer Sunday. Seemed clean Servers reminded me of my Chinese aunt and grandma; you can tell this is a family joint. They commented on what was good and knew the regular who came to pick up her take out by name. Joked when packing up our leftovers that of course no food could be wasted :) Service and food delivery was fast and portions were pretty large for the price; we could have fed 4 people for $60. Wonton soup -- enough for a family of four to each have a small bowl and then some, tasty broth with plenty of wontons and a decent selection of veg (snow peas, water chestnut, carrot, and bok choy). Singapore noodles -- husband asked for extra spicy which they delivered on (and he does not recommend haha). He said it was delicious. Included a decent amount of shrimp, pork, chicken, bean sprouts, etc. General Tso's chicken: chunks of white chicken in a tasty sweet sauce that wasn't very spicy, and quite a thick and crispy coating which amazingly stayed crispy for absolutely forever. Even my last bite 20 minutes after it was delivered was still nice and crunchy! Also came with broccoli that was a nice counterpoint and stayed crunchy and green. Got dim sum there recently. Here is what I got. Turnip Cake 3/5. Texture was good. Crispy on the outside. Soft on the inside. Could have used more flavor. Pork and thousand year egg congee 1/5. Way too watery, no flavor, no ginger, no geeen onions. Barely any pork or egg. Probably the worst item on the menu. Very disappointing. Siu Mai 5/5. Very good and flavorful! Chicken Feet 5/5. Very good and flavorful! Beef Chow Fun 3/5. Beef was very flavorful but the noodles itself lacked any flavor. Overall so so place for dim sum. I had lunch with my partner today after passing by and seeing the sign 'Free Wi-Fi' and made fun that the food/ service must be bad enough that this complementary offer restores it to acceptability. The first two times gave us hope we found a place to eat with good taste. IT was hardly busy at all then. But this time, it went so south that this review will almost make me seem like a liar. Summary: If you want to be treated rudely, be told that by pointing out you're not getting service is not their fault, be told that by intervening from approaching them at the cashier for restoring service violates their boundaries, and then get into a clash with the problematic server which I later found out the owner said 'Good for you' to support him, this is the perfect place for you. This place will make you feel you are bothering them, with any sane remedies you attempt to make as insults that fuels their dressing down you, with greasy, oily food to boot. Let's start with the straightforward part. The food was quite tasty as we had the Egg Plant and Mix Vegetable tofu lunch special. However, the egg rolls were burnt and greasy. The Egg plant was swimming in oil, though tasty. Now for the more troublesome issue. The restaurant was more busy than it normally has been. I asked what was the cause, and the only server there (white guy) said it was the weekend. I thought that was odd, but accepted that answer and off he went with our order. The restaurant was half full, but the server was more interested in busing dirty tables than checking in with us (and others). After sometime seeing he would not look towards our table, I approached him and asked him if we can start with our soups first. No response. Later, I saw him talk to the owner (Crystal, I was told later by him), and she brought it out. I asked if there were any fried wonton strips or noodle bits, which she said 'No' brusquely and hurried away. We got our dishes apart, far apart that we almost finished the first dish by the time the second one came around. After that dish, I went up and asked if we can get their steamed custard buns to go. Server took off without a word. I then remembered our table had long been neglected, that our teapot had gotten cold. So, thinking I was going to help the server, I brought the teapot back to the cash register for a fresh brew. Instead, I got a dress down from the server saying that I should have flagged him down at my table, which I responded we tried but he never looked our way, which then pushed to him to start jumping up and down waving hands like we are stopping a bus that would need desperate body language as a demonstration it was our fault for not being pedantic enough as demonstrated. And that we were working against ourselves by such action (huh, it can't get worse than no service, thus our vain attempts for a minimum of service here) It gets better. We both went to the cash register and paid. This is when I said my bringing up the teapot was not meant to make him look bad if this was his interpretation, but a sign we are not getting any return service beyond taking order, bringing dishes, and then the check. The server went on to lecture us for violating his boundaries, and he refused to acknowledge the lack of service even when I pointed out the service was negligent. I also asked him what about the boundaries of the paying customer, which then he said he doesn't know why he has to argue with me. I was running errands later and stopped by to see if I can talk to Crystal. The same server greet me and I asked if I could speak to his boss. He tried to deflect by saying he was his own boss. I then asked to talk to the owner, which he said she was not there. He became vague after I asked what time she will be back, eventually telling me at 6pm. I told him I will be back. He asked me what was I planning to accomplish by talking to her. I said I want to speak to her in the hope she can be open to hear what went down than with him. Just as I was stepping out, he said 'You know what my boss said after our argument? She said "Good for you" (as a praise to him). I said that is sad to see an establishment work against their own livelihood with such an attitude. I told him I will confirm this independently at 6pm. This is when he shooed me out of the restaurant with 'please leave' and his hands flapping in a dismissive way. I saw this rudeness, blindness, and pride was not just with me after going online just before making this review. I made the decision not to go back and talk to Crystal seeing that she is part of the problem from the other reviews. I saw a quote that said that our hurt is less from what others do to us than from our failure to accept their disability early enough to walk away from them. My walking away from the 6pm chance to talk with Crystal is that acceptance of their disability. read more

I called to make reservations for tonight and the kid tells me I dont need them. I say really, on Christmas Eve, then he asks how many people. I answer, 3. Then I tell him I have a service dog with all the papers and a card (I flew up from San Diego with her in cabin. I have the paperwork. ) He said Nope ,no dogs even service dogs. I told him ,Well thats illegal but I don't want to deal with it so Iwill call and order take out. He's all okay after 7:00 it will be totally open. Well I called and the guy who answered was rude and said I don't know what to tell you it's going to be after 9:00. The host was very nice and made sure we were well taken care of and enjoying our meal. Food highlights: - orange chicken. Typically when I order this dish I feel that the chicken is dry, but the meat was delicious and the coating was nice and crispy - green onion pancake. The BEST I've ever had. The chicken feet are amazing - cooked long enough to be tender, sauce is amazing with enough spice contrasted with sweet. Two orders... Xiao long bao we're perfect - like Shanghai. Braised pork ribs perfect mix of pork, black beans, and jalapeño. White tripe also perfectly cooked and tender. Congee with Yu tiao (Chinese doughnuts - much like a long popover) finished the meal with some sesame balls. Full and happy! Weekday dim sum doesn't have baked goods due to lower turnout of customers, which I understand completely. I LOVE THIS PLACE. Do not judge the building. Service- the woman who runs the to go over the phone is through. What a freaking gem! I had no idea they had such an extensive dim sum menu, and it bums me out to think I've been driving past it for years. BF and I ordered the following for takeout on the 4th of July--ha gow, siu mai, shrimp & chive dumplings, sticky rice, and eggplant stuffed w/ shrimp. They were out of the eggplant stuffed w/ shrimp, but offered a substitute called garlic eggplant. This dish was SUCH a pleasant surprise! The sauce was perfection and super unique--I had never tasted anything like it. The dim sum dishes were fantastic as well, and are definitely on par with those from the ID. BF & I were both extremely happy with our meal, and are super happy to have a great dim sum option nearby.
