They've been open since 1993 and have been serving up northern Chinese wheat-based dishes like dumplings, egg noodles, and ma shu pancakes to the local community ever since. For just $13.50/$14.50, you get a full combo: choice of white/brown/fried rice, hot & sour or wonton soup, spring roll or BBQ pork, and a main entrée. In this economy??? Serious value for such a large amount of food. I don't know how they don't have 5 stars, this is the best Chinese food I've had in Seattle as a life-long resident. I hadn't been in a while, and forgot how amazing their Jiaozi really is. The prices range from $12.50-$14.50. I got the Mongolian Beef. The entree portion was generous. Great flavor & tender beef. I picked the BBQ Pork for my appetizer, it came with 3 pieces. It was tasty, wished there was more! My husband got the General Tsos (not on the menu but they offer it as a lunch special!) He chose the Spring Roll, and Hot & Sour soup (he got my portion too bc I'm not a soup person). He enjoyed his food as well. We are itching to go back! Everything came out hot and in a timely manner. Th The fried wontons were our favorite dish, the others just didn't hit as we'd like. As you can see I have been a long time fan of Snappy Dragon, I waited forever for indoor dining to resume. I was so happy it was back, I think I only got take out one or two times in the past 4 years. I've been back twice since the reopening and sadly it is not the same. I do appreciate that they still have the same vegetarian menu, the dining room looks the way I remember it, I still love the sauces, but both meals my food has disappointed me. One of my favs was the vegetarian jiao-zi, on my first visit back I ordered 26 pieces for a lot of money. I was so upset to find that they now contain mushrooms (not updated on the menu) and I don't like mushrooms. Ugh. I probably should have tried to send it back, but instead forced myself to eat 25 of them. On this visit my friend also found her noodle dish to be different from memory, seems a machine now assists with the noodle making. My 2nd favorite is the green onion pancake, so I tried this on my next visit, the pancake was way too cakey. I showed my dining partner pictures of the old version and she could totally see what I was talking about. The Kung Pao Tofu was better, but I now have a new favorite place for this elsewhere. Portions were still huge, service was decent. I'm mostly writing this review because I don't want others to experience the let down I did, I might make it back one day but it is definitely going off my radar. Was hungry and craving homemade noodles. Came here to dine in. Slightly annoyed service, that I came before 5 pm. To make it easier for them, took takeout which I rarely do. Some history, I used to buy the Judy Fus sauces at QFC and was pleased with their quality flavor profiles. Had eaten here in house several times. Loved the homemade noodles, sauces and overall quality of their dishes. So, came here quite hungry and everything looked good. Had to restrain my urge to order everything on the menu. Starting out, Ordered a variety of food items. First, ordered the homemade green spring onion pancake. The pancake had a distinct onion taste to it, which I enjoyed. The pancake was nicely browned, which added to its savory taste. Next, were the homemade pot stickers. We got pork. Anything with dough is incredibly good here. Be sure to order: Noodles, pancakes, dumplings you name it. I'm also a big soup aficionado, so had to have the pork wonton soup. Loved the Delicious wontons, broth could have had more flavor. The version of Mongolian beef is classic and on point in taste. Love eggplant. Had to order their crispy eggplant. Ooh, the eggplant was fried exactly right, with a crispy finish. The tangy hot sauce added a dimension to the fried eggplant Not a dish most people anticipate liking. But this is a version that may make you enjoy eggplant. Ordered the Dave's Crispy Smoked Duck. Bone in. Came with hoisin sauce and four steamed buns. Nice crispy skin on duck. Delicious smoked duck. Alas, not enough duck to pancake ratio. Hardly enough duck to fill four pancakes, more like two. One of my favorite dishes to order in a Chinese restaurant is happy family. Their version comes with a variety of ingredients. Scallops, shrimp and chicken meatballs. Prawns, white chicken and various vegetables. A more complex version of this dish, I appreciate the addition of a variety of seafood. This makes a more complex taste ratio, than the average Happy Family. Other versions are more vegetable based. This version with more seafood, gives a hearty and deeper taste to this dish. Lamb and seafood stew, for future meals. Oooh, homemade broth. Full of meats, vegetables, tofu, fen-su, noodles and seafood. We saved this soup as a special treat for next days lunch. It was incredible balance of flavors. Especially loved the complexity of the broth flavors, blending both seafood and vegetable/tofu/meats and fen-su flavors. Easily could have this soup every day. Maybe it's hearing Chinese Aunties speaking chinglish, or coming home from school to work in the family store in Chinatown. This bridge of American and Chinese is encapsulated in the menu of Snappy Dragon for me. The hand shaven noodles is a rarity in Seattle. The sweet soy sauce and generous portion of vegetables and chicken is out of a 80's movie. The pan fried dumplings and pot stickers have a al dente flavor due to the dough made from scratch. It's not thin and greasy like some of the premade gyozas you find in cheap sushi restaurants. I love the vegetarian mushu dish. What's nice about each dish is that they complement one another and have their own distinct characteristics bringing back to a nostalgic happy place. The new owners are really nice and kind. Prices are also really reasonable and portions are huge. We went to the Snappy Dragon as a party of 2 at 2:00 on Thursday. It was empty-we were able to be seated right away. Apparently they had been takeout only until very recently-their dining room is lovely. I love the detail on their chopsticks! I ordered off their individual combo menu: hot and sour soup, fried rice, an egg roll and the Garlic and Vegetable chicken. I ordered 4 stars for heat level. Their hot and sour was good, but I wanted it more spicy and sour. Their egg roll and fried rice were excellent! The Szechuan sauce on the chicken and vegetables was great. Been here a few times recently. Perfectly cromulent American Chinese food. The benchmark for "it's fine." You won't go particularly out of your way for it, but if you just want some potstickers and chow mein and you want it to be pleasant to eat and you're not holding out for a transcendent experience, they'll nail that. A safe choice. Sit-down service is diligent and attentive, environment is homey rather than sterile. If you're looking for a transcendent dining experience, honestly the price tag alone should tell you that you're not getting that here. I dissent regarding the negative comments on change with the new ownership. I think the General Cho's is BETTER--they reduced the breading, which was excessive, while the sauce remains great. The mooshu remains spectacular, or maybe even better. Pot stickers remain excellent. My girlfriend and I were on vacation in Seattle, and we stumbled into our lodging late at night, no idea what food was available. The nearest spot I could find was Snappy Dragon, so I called up and asked if they were still doing deliveries, because they closed in like half an hour. The guy said he thought they were probably done for the night, and I asked if he could just double-check, because I was super hungry. He did a quick check and then took my order. So, kudos to them for going ahead and hooking me up, even though they were debating packing it in for the night. As it turns out, the food here was so good that my girlfriend kept suggesting that we order from them, even though we had plenty of city left to explore! On the first night, we picked up the Szechuan noodle soup. Even with the noodles basically compressed into a cube form, they were still springy and delightful once we got them into the soup. We ate as many of the noodles as we could, and then tried the Ants Climb a Tree, which wasn't nearly as good. Just not enough minced pork and substance to the dish. We ended up saving them as leftovers, and then finding some meat to augment the noodles with later. The next time we ordered, we tried the Snappy Dragon Fried Rice and the wonton soup. Both were great. Wontons were tasty, the soup was flavorful, and the fried rice was pretty solid. Good, but not amazing Chinese food, solid value, hopefully they can open up for in-person dining again soon. read more

It had been a long time since my last visit here, but have always considered Snappy Dragon the best Chinese food in North Seattle. No longer :( Just got two items, potstickers and the Special Chow Mein with house-made noodles. The potstickers were nothing more than big, heavy blobs of fried dough filled with small blobs of spongy, flavorless meat. Huge disappointment. What's more, the potsticker sauce was garbage...just some soy sauce mixed with rice vinegar. I make better sauce at home with basic recipes from the internet. Where's the effort?? The chow mein was a Major disappointment. I was looking forward to the house-made noodles...well, fine, because the dish was pretty ALL noodles, plus a ton of sauce just pooled at the bottom of the box. Very little meat, very few veggies...noodles and sauce, yippee. The kids working there were nice enough, but note to management: your customers really don't want to see a half-eaten PB&J sandwich sitting on the counter next to the credit card machine. This place has great food! I placed an order for takeout and it was ready on time. I got the sweet-and-sour chicken which was excellent, and unlike so many restaurants, it had a good amount of bell pepper and pineapple. That was a particularly nice surprise! Also had their Mongolian beef, which was very tasty and tender. I will mention that they have a no stars option, which I decided to try because so many restaurants are spicy even with one star. Well, in this case, no stars really means no heat! So when I go back next time, I will order the one star and go from there. The only item that was disappointing, was the green onion pancakes. I've had them at the restaurant and they are absolutely delicious there. But they lose their crispiness on route to your destination, making them soft and kind of heavy. So don't order those unless you're planning to dine in. Also got some white rice, which was perfect. The staff was friendly. I was really impressed with how they packaged everything for my to go order. The bag was extra heavy, and there were pieces of cardboard in between items, which not only kept them upright, but I think helped keep them insulated. All in all it was almost an hour before I was able to unpack it for us to eat, and everything was still hot! I didn't need to zap anything in the microwave! Big L. We have eaten at Snappy since the 90's. Since Bill Lee has taken over (Judy sold to him in 2023) it is standard cheap American Chinese food garbage. Sure, they still advert the famous homemade, hand-cut noodle. But they are clearly not hand cut, and if homemade (which I doubt) are a far cry from Judy's. Bland bland bland. The portion is hugeeee here and very solid food. The homemade noodles are very chewy and go very well with the sauce. The mapo tofu could've been spicier, but the sauce is solid. The ground pork in it tastes like chunked up dumpling filling which is kinda weird. They also provide hot tea and offer to pack the leftover which is quite nice. The tea is pretty watery though. First time here, I had never even heard of the place. Went with friends who suggested it and glad I did. We were able to get right in despite being a Friday night. The dining room is small. Upon entering they asked if there were special dietary needs as they have a gluten free and vegetarian menu. They also asked if we wanted tea. I had the wonton soup and the flavor was amazing. We ordered three dish and shared them: the five flavor beef with chicken (which was new), muchu pork with pancakes and Kung Pao chicken. The five flavor beef was off the charts amazing. The Kung Pao chicken was good and spicy if not a bit aalty, and the muchu pork was practically flavorless without the hoisin sauce. The pancakes were more of a crepe and they were really chewy.
