Place was way under what we expected this trip!! I got the gnocchi with meat sauce which tasted horrible and Just like Chef boy r dee!!!! I returned for a non meant sauce which was poor! I got no apologies or explanation of why the dish was so poor...I asked our maybe 21 ur old server for to go dish which threw it on the table for me to package!!! I was irate I have been to the finest Italians and non italian restraunts around and never had to package leftover especially after I had a horrible meal!!! Not to mention a $20 a plate place like this!!! I will never come back hopefully they get a clue and get some real help!!! read more

Wow, First off this restaurant obviously doesn't want feedback as their website does not have a comment section. Took my date there for valentines day what a joke. Had reservations for 8:30 pm got there at 8 pm were told that they had stopped honoring their reservations? Got seated in the bar not the restaurant with another couple whom we didn't know less than 1 foot from our table. How romantic? It took 1hr and 40 minutes to get dinner served and the food quality was horrible. We have eaten here before and know the quality level of the food to expect. Its obvious the restaurant was not equipped to handle a holiday serving and its managerial staff should be embarrassed. My relatives and family have eaten here on many occasions, guess its time for us to try someplace new. Thanks for ruining Valentines day for my date!!! read more

I went to this restaurant for a corporate event over the weekend. My colleagues are all from New York and New Jersey. That being, said, we have higher expectations when it comes to Italian food because New York has amazing Italian food. My colleagues and I thought the food was comparable to a corner pizzeria with mediocre food. The food quality is very poor as was the service. In addition, they were not accommodating at all for people with food allergies. We told them that someone at the table had gluten allergies and they said we should have called them in advance. That person was given a side order of broccoli which was awful. I must say the experience at this place was not good and I would not recommend going there. read more

Went yesterday with Mom. Atmosphere is very nice. We arrived around 5:30pm. We were the second table seated. As we continued our meal, the restaurant filled up nicely. I have heard that the House Salad was great, but I thought it was just ok. It had WAY too much dressing and it was pretty garlicky. The bread was cold-seems that that is the way it is supposed to be. Oh well. I ordered the Chicken Guiseppe. It was a large portion. It was delicious. Mom ordered Eggplant Parmesan, which she ate half of and saved the rest for later. She said it was good. The wine list by the glass is small-with only one Italian red on the list-chianti. I got another entree-Lasagna-to take home. The lasagna was excellent! Overall, I'd go again, but probably will try a different restaurant in Little Italy next time I'm in town. read more

We've been dining at Chiapparelli's for many years - and it's never failed us. On the evening of 1/21/12, our meals were more than satisfying, as usual, but our waiter was lacking. He never mention "restaurant week" to us; he never offerred us parmessan cheese nor cracked pepper. We had to ask him for the salad (which is included with the meal). My boyfriend and I love little Italy. We have one restaurant that we go to religiously down there, but with this place being one of the ones participating in restaurant week we decided to give it a try. We made a reservation for a Saturday at 7:30 and we arrived 5 minutes early. The doorway near the hostess stand was packed with folks, but no one was at the hostess stand. We waited 10 minutes (or more) until someone finally came back to the hostess stand and we checked in with them. While waiting another 15 minutes we witnessed an older, grouchy waitress come up to the hostess stand and proceed to complain to the hostess in front of a crowd of people how ridiculous everything was and so forth. I have worked in the restaurant business for over 13 years and understand the stress and periodic need to complain, but you NEVER do so at the very front of the restaurant, at the hostess stand, in front of people who haven't even dined with you yet! Then a different hostess with menus asked "who were the first 2 people waiting for a table?" We walk over to her seeing as how the rest of the folks seemed to be with a larger party. Then another couple walks over (who came in the door long after us) while we are standing there when my boyfriend answered that we were the couple waiting she asked, "Really?" as if we were lying seeing the other couple standing there. The girl from the other couple then had to answer that we were there first. So here we're already a bit upset to be put in that situation thinking it was extremely unprofessional and not our job to point out which party was to be sat first. Once we're sat, lucky us...we have the grouchy, older waitress. It took her 20 minutes to even get our drink. 15 minutes to bring out the bottle of wine and then just walked away. We had to wait another 25 minutes trying to get her attention to order appetizers. Realizing the time that was already wasted, we tried to get her attention several times to order our dinner. We didn't order our main course for another 30 minutes when the appetizers were brought out. Our entire night was basically wasted and this doesn't even include how awful the food was. Point blank...spend your money else where. This place is not worth the money or time. It's equivalent to a McDonald's of Italian food. We should have read the reviews before heading into this hole. First of all we walk in and the hostess yells can I help you? Well yes ma'am we are in a restaurant so that might mean.... Yup you got it we're here to eat. It's dated and please don't take this wrong but so are the servers. It was like the restaurant where servers got to die. Took for ever to waters they brought out bread that was cold like literally you could tell they just pulled it out of the fridge. Another thing are you really gonna serve me cheap little butters with cold bread? At least bring some olive oil. We asked the server for hot bread she said that's how they do it, she finally offered to heat it up in the oven. It came out hard but at least it was burnt and warm. We ordered martinis and they filled the martinis with ice. Wow. They taste as bad as they looked. Calamari was terrible extremely chewy and almost burnt all though the breading was good and so was the seasoning. Two of my guests got veal and they both were with a Marsala sauce when one was not supposed to be. The marsala sauce was so sweet it taste like sweet and sour sauce for a Chinese dish. Veal was over cooked so was my mothers chicken. I received a dish nothing like described by the menu. It was over cooked chicken that was supposed to be in a white whine sauce with lemon and cream. They brought me dried chicken with some sweet brown sauce. I thought she had gotten my order wrong but she told me no that is how it looks. I asked for something else as it was no where near what was on the menu and the cause was disgusting. I changed to the clams albertos.. Something like that. It came out after my table had eaten even way after they had waited 10 mins before I told them to just go ahead and eat. Finally it shows up. First of all that pasta is box pasta they claim its fresh home made welp it is certainly not. They clams dish was purposely so salty it was an edible. I just took it home and fixed it with heavy cream and butter. So basically if you receive food that is not what you ordered the kitchen gets pissy and dumps a handle of salt in your new dish. The ticket was close to two hundred and to be honest olive garden would have knocked their socks off and that's a shame. Only thing I did truly enjoy was my beer and the Cesar salad was absolutely delicious. The tourists can have the dump. read more

We were hurried in and seated immediately in the front area (apparently the kid's area) as we found out over the course of our meal. It was fine until they started moving tables so that the table of adults and small children were touching our table when we were just served our food. Don't be ok with it like us, ask for a better seat. All meals come with their house salad which was a very cheesy Caesar-type salad which is loaded with cheese...the first bites taste wonderful, then it was too much. To my surprise, entrees are an entrée and a salad....Huh. The bread appeared to be a sliced sub roll, it was so ordinary, no thanks. I was disappointed with the food, it was not cheap. Some in our group ordered the $30 special that included an appetizer and dessert, but did not like the seafood ravioli entrée. I had the veal saltimbocca which was good, but it was just meat, no sides. Our bill was a lot for what you get and it is $2.95 for a soft drink also. We had a luncheon at Chiapperillis in Little Italy for my sons graduation. Everything Was just awesome. From making the arrangements via email, ( Ashley was so professional, helpful and accommodating), to the attention we received that day. There were several other graduation luncheons at the same time, but we felt as if we were they only people there. Our server, Matt, was so polite and attentive. The food was so delicious, fresh, and huge portions, the chocolate mousse cake was certainly the best mousse we ever had. I certainly would recommend this restaurant!!!! read more

Four of us went to Chiapparelli's, had a reservation, on a Saturday evening (April). We were taken to our table which was in the first floor dining room (left of "hostess") stand. (Hostess I am referring to here is short, blond, nasty, too loud, and was rude to most people who walked into the restaurant except a few). The table was directly next to a set of open doors with four steps leading to the sidewalk. The table is about 4 feet from the sidewalk. The only tables open in the dining room were this one and one other. We all sat at the table, and it took about 3 minutes to realize that each of us were cold as there was a cool breeze blowing directly on us ... this was 7 p.m. and as the evening went on, this semi-outdoor location would have gotten colder. My husband went to the "hostess" and said: We are at the table next to the open door and we are cold. Could you please close the doors? "Hostess" replied: I'm not closing the doors. Husband replied: We are uncomfortable....it's cold. Reply from "hostess", louder with more attitude: I'm NOT closing the doors. When husband returned to the table, a waiter came over to us and we said, we're cold, need doors closed, were told she won't close them. So, the waiter quickly moved us to another table. If my husband and I had been alone, we would have left, but we were with out of town guests and stayed. The meal was mediocre, as was our server, soggy salad, cold bread. We won't be returning to Chiapparelli's. If I wanted to deal with a rude and nasty staff, I'd go to Walmart. How amazing that this restaurant still exists!! Mr. Chiapparelli (or whoever owns and manages this restaurant), even if your family works for you, teach them how to deal with customers and get rid of the nasty blond hostess. I was sooo very disappointed with this restaurant. It was Mother's day and so my kids took me to have a wonderful dining experience. We had a party of 15. One serving of bread was placed on the table so we all had to ask for the bread to be passed. The young men placed the water so close to the edge of the table that it could have easily tipped over. After placing our order we waited for over 45 minutes to get it and some of our dishes were cold. Our waiter was rude and a bit overwhelmed but never apologized even after spilling a drink on one of our guests. We asked to have the table cloth replaced but it seemed to be a problem. Eventually when my grand daughter arrived her mom told him to replace it. I spent my evening trying to de-escalate any references to his rudeness and clear racism because this was supposed to be a happy time. But I did noticed that we were the only people of color in the entire restaurant. We asked to speak to the manager and was told that the manager was in the kitchen cooking and he never came to listen to our complaints. My daughter's mother in law ordered a cup of tea, she was given a half cup with sweeteners, no sugar until after the fact. I will never go back to this racist place and whoever the manager was on duty that night, I can truly say he encouraged the disrespect of his employee. I made sure that my children and other guests were not disrespectful to him in any way but will never forget the dis-service to me and my family. This place should be on Kitchen Nightmares, where is Gordon Ramsey when you need him. I would not even give this restaurant a star if it was up to me. By far one of the worst restaurant experiences I have had in Baltimore, if not the worst. Where to even begin. We ordered Sangria, what we got tasted like grape juice served with two cups of ice. They brought us cold bread and butter. The antipasto appetizer was nothing to write home about, but I cannot imagine a situation where deli meat on a plate is that bad. We also got the shrimp scampi appetizer, the shrimp was chewy and there was some soggy bread soaking in the sauce. We then received our salads, iceberg lettuce covered in parmesan which we barely touched. I received my meal first, gnocchi--not horrible. But here is what was actually horrible, the Vitello Saltimbocca that arrived 10 minutes after the gnocchi, which we ordered two of! This is a dish I have had on dozens of occasions and never EVER has it been so horrible. There were pieces of chopped up prosciutto resting on top of half melted cheese, with half cooked veal on top of a disgusting bed of spinach, all DROWNING in Marsala wine that had not even been properly reduced!!!!! We told our waitress the concerns, she was very apologetic and sweet and tried to accommodate us, we ordered another gnocchi to go. Then came our bill, the saltimbocca's were taken off the bill, and we were charged for three salads (that came with our meals). We told our waitress that there may be some sort of mistake since the salads came with our meals and we did not order them. She said she would have them taken off the bill. Then the rudest "manager" LISA comes up the stairs and moves over our belongings so she could sit at our table, saying "we must have been confused"--we told her our meals were horrible, we did not even get an apology!!! She told us we are being charged for the salads we "ate and enjoyed". "Enjoyed" is a very subjective adjective at this point. We explained to her that we did not order them (nor like them), as they were part of the meals we returned, and should subsequently enjoyed. Lisa, the supposed manager, starts raising her voice at us and making us very uncomfortable, drawing a lot of attention to our table, and not once has she apologized for the disgusting saltimbocca. Instead she was clearly trying to recover her lost revenues from having to throw out a poorly made dish. NEVER have I been approached by such a confrontational person. In fact, I had to tell her to stop being so confrontational with her customers. My guests and I are established people who were looking for a nice dining experience. The staff told us they are petrified of the manager and she is more like a tyrant. Nonetheless, never going here again. read more

Like going to your Italian grandma's house for Sunday dinner. I dined here with a large out-of-town group in a private room. Classic decor with papa's portrait on the wall as you walk in, well worn floral carpet throughout. Definitely old school Little Italy. The restaurant created a special menu selection for our group with our organization name printed at the top. Our server was sassy (in a good way) and kept our group cared for and laughing throughout the night. Crazy good, gigantic house salad...simple iceberg lettuce, cherry tomatoes, pepperoncini, red onion slivers. and some kind of boiled egg vinaigrette. Not a pretty picture but delicious. Crusty bread for dipping in fresh olive oil. We had a wide selection of traditional pasta dishes and no one was disappointed. The big hits were Broccoli Rabe with Sausage and the Veal. I had a delicious lasagna with meat sauce. Hand crafted cannoli and tiramisu for dessert couldn't be skipped, as stuffed as we already were. So glad our meeting planner chose this place for an authentic Little Italy meal in Baltimore! read more

Of the many times I dine downtown, Little Italy is not usually one of my top choices. WIth family in town and a Groupon deal in hand, we went to Chiapparelli's for the first time. It is great that they offer valet service, the roads are one way and it is difficult to find parking, worth the money. We sat at the bar while we waited for the rest of the party, and it was clear that the bar was understaffed when we waited nearly five minutes to be acknowledged and nearly 10 to receive our drink. Once seated, we had good service, and started with the calamari and rice balls. One of the most important things during a new dining experience in an Italian restaurant is whether or not the red sauce is up to par, and it was delicious. For the entree, I ordered the Tour of Chiapparelli's which consisted of small portions of the lasagna, fettuccine alfredo, and eggplant parmigiana. The homemade fettuccine noodles were fabulous and the eggplant was okay, but the lasagna was not very impressive. Although I had a devent experience, I am not sure I would return with the menu prices being so high and the portions so small. read more

Dined last night in the "Lounge" area of this establishment. The decor was beautiful and the bartender was highly attentive and proper. The bar was very lit though and had no music playing. Anyways, we ordered the calamari and a cup and Italian wedding soup to start. The calamari was a large portion, that was nice, but was not even remotely warm and had tons of loose breading at the bottom. The soup, well the broth, was highly disappointing. It had about 4 tiny pieces of chicken, a couple noodles, and ZERO meatballs...and tasted like oil and butter mixed together. We barely touched it and informed the bartender of our disappointment, and it was left on the bill anyways. At this point we ordered entrees, the veal parm and gnocchi. Starter salads arrived and were a generous portion as well, but the dressing, appeared to be some type of Parmesan vinaigrette, it was OK but kind of bland, needed vinegar and salt badly. Entrees arrived and they were very hot. Plates looked circa shoneys buffet 97' and clearly had been used. The plates lacked color (what I mean is that all the pictures of plated food for this site have color from what appears to be parsley garnishing) I am not saying that my experience was ruined because of a lack of a garnish, what I am saying is that visually the plate looked like something I would put on my plate from Piccadilly Cafe, not something I paid $23 dollars for. At the point in the meal the draft beer system began to leak and a small estuary of beer foam slivered its way towards my plate creating a wonderful sticky situation. I never saw a manager once, nor was I approached by someone to inquire about my meal. The bartender was great though, hats off to him. I guess what I am trying to say is that when me and my date left we felt overwhelmingly disappointed. We work hard to be able to go out every blue moon and have a nice meal together and our expectations are not sky high, but we both felt we ripped off with the price to value ratio of our dining experience. We both regretted coming and wished we would of stayed home and ordered a pizza. Coming from a restaurant management background I felt inclined to write this review in hopes that management will read it and work to correct these problems. Everything that was wrong can be fixed. Unfortunately we will not be back to dine here due to the egregiousness of the errors, but this could be avoided for future diners. I would hate to see more people with these thoughts, as locally owned restaurants stand for everything I believe in, and I want to see them prosper. Hey maybe things will get better. read more

My husband's family have been going to Chiapparelli's for decades and it is always fabulous. But recently, I took a group of 34 family members to dinner there on a Sunday evening and I had to share my wonderful experience. All 34 people arrived at the same time, and they were completely ready for us. we had 3 separate tables, but they positioned us so we felt as though we were all together. The service was wonderful, the drinks were all correct, the food came out at the same time (how do you do that with 34 people ordering off the menu?) and was not only correctly made as ordered, but was piping hot. The separate checks (10 in all) were correct (everybody with who they were to be with), the wait staff gave us update on a football game going on in the bar area...I could go on and on. So, not only would I recommend this restaurant for a dinner, I would recommend this restaurant for a party! read more

Avoid this place, I was there yesterday. Nice venue, the restaurant has a tasty "Chip" salad, yet the food is mediocre. I had the trio, chicken parm, fettuccine Alfredo, and lasagne. It was the worst pasta dish I've ever had. I had my wife taste it, she didn't care for it. The fettuccine was bland, had no taste, how can you ruin a simple dish. Even with salt, pepper, and parm, the dish was inedible. The marinara sauce was just as bland. The manager came over, asked about the meal. After telling him about the lack of flavor, the only thing he offered was to remake the dish. I left over half the meal there, and he didn't offer to comp or take off the bad meal. Very expensive bad meal. I'm well travelled, I love to cook, I have even had fettuccine Alfredo at Alfredo di Roma, this was by far what anyone would call Alfredo sauce.
