Owners, Keith & Nicole, are great, great people and that is reflected in the way they run their business. The last time we placed an order for pickup their was some miscommunication over the phone about pricing. I emailed them about it and expressed my frustration, and Keith responded in a matter of hours and offered to send me a $100 gift card to make things right (this was more than I had paid for my order). Given the times we are in now and the hardships EVERY restaurant is facing, this was completely unexpected and is very reflective of their character and how they do business. We got seated at 5:30 and did not get our food until 7:25. Our server had table behind us and the table sat 10 minutes after us and had gotten their food at 6:45. We asked to speak to a manager and they came out 10 minutes after we'd asked, told us they had to stop seating that our food would be out soon. Our server had told us 25 minutes before it's be 20 more minutes. Server seemed extremely overwhelmed and avoided our table except to drop drinks and finally food. We were really excited to try this place out based on the reviews but left incredibly disappointed. The atmosphere was amazing absolutely beautiful patio setting but that's really the only positive thing that I have to talk about. The sushi was 75% rice and 25% bland. I will say the lack of flavor could be from our roll selection... on the menu the ingredients are only listed for the specialty rolls so we were flying blind. Just got back from dining and can't wait to go back! We went in order to celebrate a promotion of a friend. The meal was a promotion in quality of food, service, and vibe! The recommended saki was perfect which disappeared quickly and I'm not much of a saki drinker. The server was helpful with explicit descriptions of menu items. The pacing was slow which was a bonus since we were enjoying the time with our friends. Speaking of friends, it's a good idea to dine with those that don't mind sharing food. I'm from Chicago where I eat very well, but my experience at Chiba was the best sushi I've ever encountered. My sashimi tasted like I was eating on the beach right at the ocean. It could not have been any fresher. Heather was my server, and she was also perfect. I did not even have to make any choices. She was very passionate about her recommendations and she was spot on! The Crispy Chicken was out of this world. She also recommended a roll that I would have never picked, but it was her favorite, so I went with it. The Louisiana Purchase roll is a must-try. Who knew chicken, apple, and brie could be in a sushi roll? She allowed us to enjoy my meal but also checked on us at the right times. She was a very articulate professional who made it clear that she was happy accommodate me, if I needed anything. My only issue was another dining room staff member, who I believe was a busser. He went around to all the tables and talked a bit too much to the tables. It was obvious he was annoying most. I wanted to enjoy my meal with my date. Our server allowed us that space, but the busser was loud and seemed to cross the line with the customers. Picking up our plates is all he needed to do. Terrible service. I ordered food at 5:09. I was told at that time it would take about 30 to 40 mins to make my takeout order. I only ordered 3 rolls so i was thrown off by that. Once i arrive at the location obviously they're busy which is not a problem. I called in at 5:49 to verify the order was ready and can come inside and get it. i was than told "No it should be ready in another 20 mins." I asked why is it taking so long to make 3 rolls. The response was "We have allot of reservations tonight." To me that means if you're not in the building you're not important. I advised them to cancel the order and i left. I than received a call about 10 mins later after leaving and already being back on the highway. The guy said yes your food is ready already you can come get it. I still choose to cancel because at this point my time has been wasted and its just to many issue for a simple take out order. Get it right the first time and make sure the experience is a pleasant and rememberable one. I wish i never took this promotion and move to indy the food is terrible here and most cases and the service is even worst. I cant wait to move back to dallas to live in reality and with normal people again. They need to throw this whole state away. Lol read more

This was our second dining experience here. Food is outstanding. But the outside bar brought a dirty glass for my $10 Sapporo beer. There was lipstick on the rim. So we called the waitress and she appropriately apologized and took it back. Within a minute the bartender arrives with an opened can (waitress originally opened the first can at our table) and a supposed different glass. "Your first one is on the bar, you can see it from here." I didn't really think about it until most of the way through when I noticed that glass had a greasy area from the lip down on a third of the circumference, sort of like you'd get from lip balm. Then it dawned on me a new unopened can wasn't brought out as a replacement which probably meant everything was original and he'd just tried to wipe the lipstick off the dirty glass, or he dumped from one dirty glass into another and brought the same can back to the table. Why else you you say something like "you can see your glass over there"? Kinda gross and a great way to spread germs don't you think? read more

Very cool vibe, owner Keith knows what he's doing! Great food, service and the garage bar was extremely cool. Can't wait until the live outdoor music patio is ready to go. The only negative is the main dining room may hold 40 people max. So get a reservation or go early. Westfield is going places. Finally a real sushi spot opens in Westfield/Carmel. This place just opened and is a definite stop for dinner. We had the Strawberry roll and Let the Good Times which were both fresh, creative and fantastic. We also had the Hawaiian sashimi which was not only delicious but super unique. For drinks, the Coconut Mojito and Kappa Crush are a great go to. Staff was attentive, informative, and knowledgeable. The owner, Keith, was very personable and made it a point to talk to each table. His restaurant experience was clearly reflected by the overall experience we had tonight. Looking forward to the outdoor patio and live music! Good and bad - I will give you both but after three times this place is fading. The good - the sushi is great. Every time, every meal, the sushi is solid. The atmosphere especially if you are outside on a perfect night cannot be beat. The bad - the drink service is bad, and getting worse. The bar is pretty small and probably cannot support the size of the restaurant. The second you get a drink, order another, if not you will be sitting sober wondering when your waitress will be back for another drink. The other bad is the food (outside of sushi which is great). When they first opened a lot of the other dishes - crispy chicken, duck salad, dumplings, etc. we're great but each other time they have gone down hill. Our crispy chicken last night was cold, our dumplings were burnt - the quality outside the sushi was mediocre. We also ordered crawfish fried rice and it never showed up despite our waitress saying twice it was coming. When we asked for our bill she said it should be out any minute and we told her not to worry about it - who wants a plate of fried rice 15 min after we finish eating dinner? Our dinner for 6 (we put our order in quick) took just under two hours! If you want a good experience - order sushi and two drinks at a time. Chiba could be so good if they got it all together and fixed their issues but instead they will continue to hemorrhage customers as they seek a more consistent experience! read more

Second time we have eaten here. This time was quite disappointing. I tried 4 different sushi rolls. All of them had mushy rice. Not good. They also had way more rice than substance inside. The ratio was way off in a bad way. There was absolutely no crunch to either shrimp tempura rolls. The fried rice was also mushy. The seaweed salad was good. The spring rolls were an egg roll cut up and some sauce drizzled on top Again, no crunch and limp. They had good taste but definitely not the consistency you expect from a spring roll. So being from Baton rouge Louisiana and I love sushi I had to give this place a try. I order the "let the good times roll" roll and was very pleased. To mess with the server I ordered it in cajun French asking for the "laissez le bon temp rouler" rouler and she looked at me with a blank stair grinning. However, our waitress assured us that the salmon was "fresh caught" and not farm-raised and imported from Hawaii. However, Hawaii has no "natural" salmon. This restaurant has taken a full 180 since we had been 8 months ago. This time the only things that were good was the San Pelligrino & the fact that we got right in at 7p on Fri night. Sadly we waited 20 min for drinks. Hubs got a blonde ale that tasted like a hoppy IPA. He didn't drink it & server didn't try to rectify or comp. we ordered a tuna tartare for the app. This came AFTER the 3 rolls we ordered and was inedible (see picture). Looked & tasted like warm mushy dog food. Needless to say we couldn't eat it. Server never acknowledged this or comped/offered to swap it out -- nothing. The 3 rolls were also warm, mushy & chewy. So disappointing as we had a great experience 8 months ago. That's all we ate and this took 1.5 hours?! There is only 1 small co/ed bathroom that was dirty. We really want to give them another chance since menu reads like a dream. Hoping this was a really off night? Ugh. read more

Just went for the first time. It was magnificent. We got there for happy hour which reduced the appetizer prices immensely. That really saved us a lot. I really enjoyed the atmosphere at Chiba-clean and modern. Nice outdoor seating. Creative menu items. The staff was very friendly and accommodating when we asked to move from the back bar to outside. Went this past Wednesday around 8pm and although the food was good it took way too long to get it. The crispy chicken and crawfish fried rice came out fairly quickly but we waited an hour for our 2 sushi rolls which is absolutely absurd. Our waitress was nice and kept apologizing for the slow sushi chefs but waiting that long when the place was not busy (we were only table inside and outside was maybe 1/2 full) is unacceptable. I will go back another time and give them another chance but if I experience the same poor service from the sushi chefs again then that's it. read more

What a great addition to "restaurant row" in Westfield. Went here with the family on a weeknight. Service was very good. Nice variety of rolls and non-sushi entrees on the menu. Wide variety of premium sakes available. We enjoyed several rolls, all of which were very fresh and tasty. I look forward to going back soon.
