I want to give this place 5 stars but for our first visit, the service was very bad/disappointing. The food, environment- all great, poor service. Our appetizers were over 30 minutes late, didn't come out until our sushi came out, the manager had to end up serving our table instead of our server. Excellent sushi!!!! Freshest fish I have found in the area. My wife and I prefer raw fish and these guys delivered. Service was amazing as well. Keith, the owner/head chef/bartender/all around amazing guy, came around to every table and introduced himself and made sure everyone was happy. Our waitress, Kate, knew the entire menu, which was extensive, and helped me navigate the menu even with food allergies. This is a big deal as I have odd food allergies. They were very accommodating. The atmosphere was good, but would definitely be better in the summer as you can sit outside and enjoy live music. We'll absolutely be back! By far the best I ever had in Indiana. In fact, Chiba's sushi rivals the sushi from what is probably the most successful sushi restaurant in North America...the original Mikuni's in Fair Oaks, CA. The order was packed well and arrived perfectly...soup & edamame (hot) on top and our black widow roll and sushi dinner (cold) on the bottom. The raw fish was obviously extremely fresh, and sushi fish slices were thick and delicious. Mikuni you have found your match...in Westfield, IN! I went to Chiba for the first time yesterday and while the food was great, the service was 4/10 at best. Our server switched up our sushi and my date had a severe shellfish allergy. Thankfully we caught the mistake before he ate any. Secondly, I ordered a bottle of Pinot Grigio and the server brought the bottle and started pouring when I noticed it was a red wine. I asked him about the wine and he tried to tell me it was Pinot Grigio. When he looked at the bottle he realized he poured Pinot Noir and we ended up having to pay $60 for a bottle of wine that we did not order. Our server did not offer to fix the problem or even take any discount off of our bill. We ended up paying about 25 bucks more for a bottle of wine that we did not order, nor even wanted in the first place. read more

The owner, Keith, has many years experience in sushi and it shows with the creativity of flavors in the rolls (the original Chiba is in New Orleans where he is from). The restaurant is in a restored older home in charming downtown Westfield. The white interior is clean and modern providing a modern and fresh, but with a rustic charm, atmosphere. The patio is shaded and feels like a comfortable backyard setting with a more sophisticated sushi dining experience. Perfect combination for this area. We will keep coming back. read more

Went for dinner Friday. Amazing sushi! We got the simple salad which had a very light flavorful peanut ginger dressing. Ordered three rolls: spicy crunchy tuna, sharp tempura and the amazing Honolulu roll. It was sooooo good. The waitress was very helpful. When she brought the check she brought us a free dessert, deep fired bread pudding. I thought the food was amazing but the dessert was even better. I don't think they do that every time but I would go back just for the dessert it was that good. The restaurant is in a house, it's cozy and chic. It is a great place for a date. HANDS DOWN the most fresh sushi I've had! It was my first time eating here last week and I knew I would be impressed when the server told me they get fish from Hawaii twice a week. My favorite was the white tuna sushi, smooth as butter! I'm also a big fan of the fact they did away with plastic straws and replaced them with paper straws. Chiba is our favorite place to dine! The SUSHI is amazing and I'm also giving the service 5 stars! The atmosphere is so very unique. If you want quiet white linen dining you can dine in the main dining room and watch the sushi chef create not just the best sushi since I left Shichirigahama Beach but the presentation is just beautiful! There is a new larger amount of outdoor dining along with a partial enclosed area where bands play on some weekend nights or special Funday Sundays! There is also a small very quiet bar area that has one side of tables that the windows open out so you can hear the band on a more private level or just enjoy the weather. There are also a few other tables in a sun room like area off of the bar. Keith and Nicole the owners are on a more personal level than most small restaurants. It's truly a very unique setting but the sushi and don't forget to try the lemongrass soup! All of the food is simply amazing. We love to go and just relax and try new things each time We come. We are never left without being greeted by Keith and Nicole both themselves. Kacy is Keith's manager that's keeps things running perfectly even when Keith is not on site if he is vacationing with family or is just not on site while also catering private events. The catering we have experienced has been 100% perfect just as if you were dining in. They have several selections of sake to choose from which is not the norm for other Japanese restaurants. They have a very good happy hour menu that gives you a chance to try different dishes half off I believe. I can't say enough about Keith, Nicole and their staff! I believe the bartender Kate is also very personable and very professional to help make your experience just perfect. With the many different dining areas it offers they make it family friendly and very unique to still make any couples date night feel special right alongside any single out of town diner or someone who is a local! The experience was two and a half hours from start to finish, and we had to get up and find our waitress three times over the course of the evening. I don't mind an extended dinner over cocktails, but she never asked us if we wanted another cocktail. We drove 30 minutes with friends to try this spot. We came in on a whim. It was a Thursday night and we were looking for a new sushi place to try out. Saw the name Chiba and just said "Boom! Let"s do it!'. Wow! Started with lychee martinis and appetizers. Buns stuffed with shortribs and roasted duck...eclectic and delicious. Gyoza, although definitely different than traditional, hit the spot too! Their version of spring rolls were savory, crispy and succulent! Dinner was nigiri and maki for both of us. We tried six different rolls and a couple of nigiri. Our waitress never brought water or a new napkin after finding a hair rolled inside of it. I had to find someone else to get me a napkin and water after several requests. Fish is extremely FRESH and absolutely delicious! The appetizer of fresh sashimi with truffle oil and sea salt is simple, yet nothing short of amazing! The owner is onsite, hands on and very inviting. You will feel like you are sitting in a modern Broad Ripple setting, combined with an upscale Tokyo Bistro.
