Chiba is by far my favorite place for sushi in the Indy area. The sushi is fresh and tasty, the drinks are fantastic and the outdoor atmosphere is spot on. We typically visit during happy hour and enjoy several rolls off the happy hour menu along with miso soup, salads, and sometimes the crawfish fried rice. The bread pudding dessert is also a winner. The blueberry is my favorite (lots of fresh berries), but they are all yummy. A perfect light dinner? A spicy salmon roll, a California roll, miso soup, blueberry bread pudding, and a Kappa Crush. Keep in mind we're big sushi fans... but also realize we live in Indiana, which isn't exactly a sushi Mecca. lol. I want to start off be saying, I have been to Chiba multiple times and the food has been nothing but 5 stars. I have yet to go to another restaurant that offers cuisine even close to Chiba. In the warmer months, you can sit outside and enjoy cocktails, delicious food, and live music. The atmosphere is exciting, especially when dining outside. My only complaint is that past few times I have dined in- service has been incredibly slow. We waited almost 40 minutes for our appetizer, but the food was absolutely delicious. Who would've thought that Indiana would have such delicious sushi? As someone who has been spoiled by living on the coasts, I'm always on the lookout for good sushi and am rather picky about the quality. I was pleasantly surprised by Chiba! We started out with a crispy chicken appetizer. The menu advertises it as spicy but I would definitely say it's ok the milder side! It was smothered in a delicious sweet sauce and came in a pretty large portion (definitely enough for 4 people to share). My boyfriend and I got two rolls: the "let the good times" and "mauna loa". Both were delicious an super fresh. I will say though that the Mauna Loa had just a bit too much sriracha on top which masked some of the taste of the fish, but that was easily resolved by scraping it off. They have a good selection of beers, cocktails and sake. I ended up getting the lava flow cocktail which was absolutely delicious. We also shared a sake flight which came with a sweet, medium and dry sake. After being in quarantine for so long, coming here was such a treat especially on such a nice weekend. Their patio area is extensive which was super nice. The waiters were all wearing masks to be safe while serving our food. The California roll wasn't great. It tasted super artificial, but the shrimp tempura roll was good! The crispy chicken was also really good! I'll eat pretty much any sushi you put in front of me but the menu didn't state that the sushi was all going to be ground up. What a great environment with a lot of seating options. The live music in Friday nights is another plus to the environment of Chiba. My favorite part of Chiba is their happy hour on weekdays 4-6. Wednesday happy hour is all night and includes speciality cocktails. For happy hour, we usually get the simple salad, crispy chicken, and 2-3 sushi choices. Maybe even the tempura bread pudding. And still, the cost is only like $30. Our servers are always very kind and attentive. But be aware that your sushi may take longer than the rest of your food. We visited here based off a recommendation from a trusted friend. The atmosphere was fantastic. For that it is worth a visit. However, that was really the best part of the meal. First our cocktails came out extremely strong (not often a thing I write), then we noticed that prices and food quality didn't really match up. We wanted to love it, but I can't say that the $22+ rolls really were that worth it. The food was amazing. However, there was a serious disconnect began the getting of house and the kitchen. We visited on a Friday evening and were given the weekday happy hour for menu. When we tried to order, we were told that the half hour wasn't offered when it was a holiday (Valentine's Day is a holiday?). Then why did we have the happy hour menu? So we ordered of the regular menu. We substituted soy paper for seaweed for one of our dolls, but when it came out, it was made with seaweed. We pointed out the error to the expedite, and he told us to keep the room and a new one would be made. It quickly came out. Then we tried the other room that came out with the first one. It was made with soy paper...that's where the kitchen had screwed up (using soy paper for the wrong roll). We let that slide and just kept the roll. Throughout the meal, I felt like we were missing something. I thought I ordered the Crawfish fried rice, but it never arrived. I figured I just forgot to order it. And we had the extra room that was re-made, so we weren't hungry anymore. When the bill came, the fried rice was on there. I pointed out of to our server and she thinks she gave it to another table. She quickly re-printed our ticket and everything was OK. In skirt, the food was very good (even though it wasn't exactly what we ordered), but the experience was spotty at best. I've been in here a few times. I like it. It's decent sushi in Westfield. Some rolls are good while others are ok. Like, in the photo, the dish included shrimp tempura. When I think of this roll, when I've had this roll every other place, it's only shrimp, not here. There's lettuce, cabbage or something else accompanying the shrimp. Meh. Just tried to get sat for our 6pm dinner reservation for a birthday we have had planned for weeks now and we were told we have to wait over an hour because they sat X amount of parties in front of us so they have no room for their reservations. How absurd is it to accept reservations but not offer the ability to seat them when they arrive on time. And how do you seat large parties close to the times you know you have reservations coming in at? I was so excited to try this place but I will never be back. Had such a great first experience at Chiba! I live in Broad Ripple but this was worth the drive north up 31. If you haven't been to the Main street location in Westfield I suggest you go. It is quintessential small town, & I mean this in the best way possible. You come upon it out of nowhere. The streets are usually filled with cars and the welcoming of the patios of all the nearby restaurants is refreshing. We entered the main doors of Chiba to ask for outdoor seating. I was surprised at how much outdoor space there was. From the front area where the corn hole boards were located all the way to the back area near the bar. There was a stage as well - although when we went (Wednesday night) there was no live music. BUT - Wednesday night is Happy Hour all day. Some great deals as part of this for drinks and appetizers. We had a really friendly and attentive server. We ordered the Rossi Roll & the Let the Good Times Roll. Both were delicious. We also did the happy hour gyoza & sashimi trio. This was my second visit to this restaurant. The restaurant is located in the restaurant street of Westfield. Four of us was able to walk in and got a table right away around 7:30pm on Saturday. Since weather was nice, most people preferred outdoor seating so we ended up having a table inside the restaurant. However there were so many mosquitoes inside too. It was bit annoying. If you go when sun is out, you can play the corn hole game in front yard. It can be entertaining for kids and grownups. In my last visit, I wasn't completely pleased with food and I think it was the same for my second visit. Maki and sushi was ok. I personally don't like a thick cut of sashimi but it was pretty fresh. However their kitchen food wasn't that great. I thought chicken wings were salty but when udon came out, omg it was really salty. We ate the noodles only. Soup was so salty that we could not enjoy the soup. If I ever go back I would not have any kitchen food. I'll just have some maki and sushi. Our waitress was ok. One of my favorite places to eat at when I'm in town visiting my parents! I live in SF so I'm always around good seafood, but I can definitely say this is some of the best sushi I've ever had. We had an early evening reservation around 5:30, so there was no wait. The ambience is very fun and inviting for all types of groups. I ordered the lychee-tini (favorite drink here) and my parents ordered a bottle of Chardonnay. (Not pictured). We were starving so went straight for entrees. I ordered the Rossi, which is HUGE but so delish. My dad ordered the Mexican Grand Prix which he said was his favorite. I was walking down Park Street one night and heard live music, saw twinkle lights, and knew there was more than first meets the eye to a cute old house on Park. Now to be totally honest, I don't even eat sushi and was so drawn in to this place that I decided I had to go sometime. Fast forward--I got good work news and was looking for a place to celebrate with friends. It was the night to try Chiba! First off, as you're making your plans, know that they don't take reservations. We arrived a little before 5:30 and that was perfect to get a nice patio table and sneak in on their happy hour food menu before 6pm. (I learned they have a food and drink happy hour menu all night on Wednesdays.) I loved their simple salad with ginger carrot dressing. Next I'd rank their crispy chicken my second favorite, followed by the fried rice and pot stickers. Fear not if you don't like sushi...I walked away very full! I did enjoy admiring the sushi displays that were brought to other tables--so beautiful! Everyone at our table enjoyed their cocktails. I got a Mai Tai and it took me back to memories of Hawaii. All in all, it was a very fun restaurant for a dinner celebration. Food is artistic and delicious. Outdoor seating is where it's at, and the location is easy to access in Westfield. Pricy and mediocre - We were in town for a lacrosse tournament and Chiba was recommended to us. The food was expensive for what you get and mediocre at best. Don't bother with the calamari; it was chewy and generic. Most other sushi was fine but nothing to write home about. Decor was a spartan attempt at noting they have an affiliations with a place in New Orleans, but then they ran out of steam and thought they could distract patrons from it by overlaying reggae music. The restaurant's pitch was about the diverse geographic influences on the food which made it authentic... seems they need to consult Mr. Webster on the difference between authentic and eclectic. I would love to say I could review the food here however when I showed up for my reservation that was made several weeks ago I was told it was going to be over an hour wait???? The hostess explained they had two larger party's that had just come in (without reservations) and they sat them! What? I made these reservations over two weeks ago, and you just sat two (walk in) parties ahead of me and from what I could see at least 5 or 6 other people that had reservations as well! First, train your hostess and host how to manage reservations and walk ins. I don't know who messed this up, but there were some very unhappy patrons at your establishment and the young hostess was definitely getting the blunt of it. Be it she made the mistake or not, she was clearly not in position to take any kind of action or control of the situation, so shame on the manager for not showing up! Second, why were you not seating anyone inside? Short staffed? More reason to handle the reservations with a lot more care! Third, if your not going to honor reservations it's simple, don't take reservations! I drove 40 minutes to get to this restaurant excited to try this place, and celebrate a special day, and your restaurant ruined that for us tonight. read more

One of my daughters told me that we needed to go to Chiba's. She also told me that we needed to go on Wednesday as that is their Happy Hour Night and cocktails as well as some sushi have reduced prices. So, of course, we went on a Wednesday evening. Their cocktails are quite yummy :) so definitely order one. The Lava Flow and the Blue Hawaii are highly recommended. For food we ordered a small bowl of crawfish fried rice which was tasty and of really good size. One of my daughters loved it. The other thought it was just okay. We tried a couple of different rolls and they do have a very nice selection of some interesting combinations. By the way, the specialty rolls are quite big so be prepared. We got the Happy Hour Spicy Tuna Roll for $6 which was very good. The happy hour special rolls are smaller which is good as you can mix and match those with the larger rolls. I definitely recommend the Bridgewater roll. The mix of salmon avocado and mango was great. The Satsuma Strawberry sushi was interesting and different. Strawberries in a sushi roll- who would have thought! However it was tasty as the flavors worked - it also contained mango, jalapeno and a spicy sauce. I am not sure I would get it again as there are so many others to sample but I am glad I tried it. Service was excellent and everyone wore masks. Tables are separated. They have a really nice outdoor patio with heaters however the day we went there was snow so it was not open. Deals valid for happy hour through 6 pm $5-6 sushi rolls and other great options including crawfish rice. Our group of six sat in back building with nice heaters to keep us toasty. On Tuesday, we had the room to ourselves. Basic good wine and beer options with wine about $12/glass. We missed Wednesday night drink specials. But did try the Scorpion special Halloween drink ($8.00) fabulous blend of rum, gin and orange liquor. Wow. The crawfish fried rice is good ($4.50) The shiitake mushroom roll for ($3.00) during happy hour is a great deal. We also enjoyed the yellowtail roll ($5.50) Very tasty. You want to park in gravel parking lot down the street and walk up. We got Kona beer and Lychee Martini to start. The little lychee fruit at the bottom was a great treat. We also got steamed buns, sushi, sashimi, and blueberry bread pudding off the happy hour menu. You have to order before 6 on weekdays. It was delightful! I think the bread pudding was fried? It had a little bit of a crisp to it. Would definitely come again. We brought our 1 year old for kids night on Tuesday.
