Probably should be a 2 star review but I'll be nice with 3. Everything in this restaurant is at least 50% over priced. 5.5 for one piece of salmon nigiri? Most places charge 5.5 for 2. These prices are on par with nobu Las Vegas. Ordered the crispy skin salmon, Came with zero skin and dry. Few pieces of asparagus, and a huge bowl of white rice. Short rib tempura, dry, needed some kind of sauce. And overall weird concept. Maui wings, came out lukewarm and dry also 20 dollars for 6 wings. It's like they've been precooked and warmed up a little. Their menu is awful, and on par with every basic Americanized Japanese restaurant. 24 dollars for a Mardi Gras roll? And all it had was basic fish on top. Maybe there are no better options in Westfield but the three of us spent 300 dollars with tip on below average sushi, or they are trying bamboozle Americans that have no idea what good sushi is and what it should be priced. Friendly wait staff, thoroughly mediocre food. I sat at the sushi bar and ordered a tuna roll, some sashimi, and gyoza from the happy hour menu. The tuna roll was pretty flavorless, the sashimi was nothing special, and the gyoza looked like they came from a frozen bag, with dry pork filling inside. I was pretty disappointed for an $18 meal. I didn't try any of their signature fancy rolls, but if they do so poorly with the basic dishes, I wouldn't trust them with the more expensive ones. I wish I could rate this place higher, especially cos of the wonderful service we had here on a Friday evening. Heather took care of us and was AMAZING! Very rare you come across a server who does her best to make you and your kids feel so comfortable. She talked to my kids like they were also paying customers and tried to serve food and drinks to them the best possible way. We tried 3 different drinks and the lycheetini with vodka/gin was really good. Definitely try that! The Kappa was strong as well. We ordered a bunch of specialty rolls and few normal ones - unfortunately none of the rolls were memorable or impressed us. Spicy tuna was oddly so gummy. The brickyard roll was falling apart. The louisana roll(the odd ball with chicken) was not impressive. We usually overeat sushi but the food here was eh enough to be left behind. read more

Love the happy hour and the vibe of the restaurant. The food is good overall, but most of it does have a Louisiana twist. Usually this is fine, but the conch fritters did not benefit from this. The strawberry is very light & refreshing and would be soooo amazing on a hot summer day. If I had to pick a favorite, I'd go with the Louisiana Purchase (chicken). However, sissy's favorite was the Crescent City. She said the sauce put it over the top for her. They have a kids menu!!! Little one had the chicken tenders and fried rice (pay the up charge people... that rice was out-of-this-world amazing). The little emptied that bowl (even with mushrooms in it!). Chiba has been on our list of places to check out for a while. We went with another couple on a Friday night and had no wait. The outdoor patio is awesome. My husband was happy to see that they offer beer from Maui Brewing Company. We went to Maui earlier in the year and really enjoyed their beer. I recommend trying their blonde beer. We started with the Rock Shrimp Tempura appetizer. This was one of the highlights for me. It tasted a lot like Bang Bang Shrimp from Bonefish. Lots of flavor and a little kick. The miso soup was a nice start to the meal as well. I had the Mardi Gras roll and it was very good. There was definitely some heat from the jalapeño. The roll itself was huge. It was almost too big to fit into my mouth so I would've liked for it to be a little smaller. Everyone in our group seemed to like their rolls but I think they're overpriced. We've had just as good sushi at other places and the prices at those places have been more reasonable. The trifecta: great people, great service, great food. Apparently during the warmer months this place has quite the draw, however even on a rainy cold Thursday it didn't disappoint. It was a lot less lively I imagine, but we received excellent service from all of the staff and the owner, Keith, took time to greet and engage in genuine conversation with each table. The sushi rolls were fresh, artful and inventive. The Mardi Gras roll was easily our favorite bite of the meal but everything was pretty good, including the cocktails. Had such a great first experience at Chiba! I live in Broad Ripple but this was worth the drive north up 31. If you haven't been to the Main street location in Westfield I suggest you go. It is quintessential small town, & I mean this in the best way possible. You come upon it out of nowhere. The streets are usually filled with cars and the welcoming of the patios of all the nearby restaurants is refreshing. We entered the main doors of Chiba to ask for outdoor seating. I was surprised at how much outdoor space there was. From the front area where the corn hole boards were located all the way to the back area near the bar. There was a stage as well - although when we went (Wednesday night) there was no live music. BUT - Wednesday night is Happy Hour all day. Some great deals as part of this for drinks and appetizers. We had a really friendly and attentive server. We ordered the Rossi Roll & the Let the Good Times Roll. Both were delicious. We also did the happy hour gyoza & sashimi trio. The white wine (chardonnay) on the happy hour menu was also a nice crisp glass. Will definitely venture back up! read more

If you are not from this area, you may start to doubt your GPS as you pull into an obviously residential area. I was about to turn around and ask for directions when I spotted a sign pointing the way to Chiba, The Italian House and Epicurian Rail... I would have never suspected this area as a restaurant strip. Parking seems to be scarce, but when I was leaving I discovered a large gravel lot at the end of the street, so it's about half a block to walk. Not bad. As usual I dragged my meet-up group with me, so there were about 10 of us. Not a problem here, we were welcomed even so we were a bit early for our reservations. Off to a good start. We arrived in time for happy hour, which I believe is Mon-Sat from 4-6 pm. Of course I took full advantage of this and happily ordered from that menu... You just can't beat half price apps. I had the Pork Gyoza for starters. At first I was a bit disappointed because there were only 3 dumplings. However, the quality of those dumplings made up for the lack of quantity. OMG those things were delicious. The skin thin, delicate and with a hint of crispy yet soft. The filling savory, nice flavoring. The sauce strong but not overpowering. Highly recommend ordering some. I also enjoyed the crawfish fried rice. Had never heard of such a thing and frankly was quite suspicious of this combination. However, this stuff is delicious... Love it, love it...nice flavoring, hard to describe, with bits of crawfish. I will definitely order this again. Bowl looks small, but the portion is actually pretty filling. And as I was quite hungry that day, I also ordered the crispy chicken appetizer. You get a little bowl of chicken. Doesn't look like much, but that bowl holds quite a bit of chicken. This is going to be hard to describe. That flavor is just superb. Not sweet, not spicy, just nice, really nice. And the consistency... perfect. A hint of crisp on the outside, juicy chicken on the inside. None of the fat or grizzle that you often find in dishes like this. Just high quality meat with great flavor. I also invited myself to other folks Edamame and it was delicious... some of the dishes my guests consumed were the seaweed salad, Brickyard roll, Mushroom Gyoza, Rainbow roll, Katsu chicken, that's all I remember. But the amazing thing was that they all agreed that the food was fabulous. I had the pleasure of a Kappa Crush with Fuzzy's vodka and it was delicious. so much so that a friend sampled it and immediately order one for herself. The drink was delicate, light, not too sweet, yet still packed a punch. Nicely done. Our service was very good and Madison ran back and forth a million times for us to accommodate all our wishes. Thank you for that. Didn't even flinch at the prospect of all separate tickets. We only had one little mix-up with that, and that one's on us as we had folks switching seats. Keith, the owner, is a very interesting man and upon asking told us the story of how he ended up in Indianapolis with a Japanese Nola restaurant. He is definitely passionate about his food and restaurant and it shows. What is also a nice touch, if you have to take your leftovers with you, they will wrap it up nicely for you and you will find a small version of the menu as well as a pair of chop sticks in your bag. How thoughtful. My recommendation: Even if you are not a big sushi fan, there is plenty of great stuff to chose from on the menu. If you haven't been to Park Street in Westfield (Indiana) - you are missing out. Chiba is one of our favorites. The interior is cozy and has a main dining area and a bar area. Outdoor seating in sun and shade in addition to a covered area where they host live music a few times a week. Their happy hours are affordably priced and a great way to experience some of the best menu choices. The food is DELICIOUS. I know, you're thinking ... Sushi? Indiana? ... well, zip it. Chiba gets access to the tastiest fish and it is flown in frequently ensuring its freshness. Went here for a fun date night on a nice Friday night. We didn't have reservations so we weren't able to sit outside- so pro tip call ahead if you are hoping to sit outdoors! We were seated inside rather quickly though. I haven't been here before and was excited to try it out. It's a Hawaiian theme/ vibe which was really cool. Our server was very slow to bring us our beers which was slightly annoying. But the real annoyance was how freezing cold they kept the room! Seriously. It was so uncomfortably cold. We tried a few different rolls and the fried calamari and all of the food was very good. Personally though it seemed a bit overpriced for the size/ what we got. I'm not sure I will go back. First, being walked to our table in the middle of the outdoor patio the hostess was about to sit us and someone who showed up after us was being sat at the table we were going to be sat at and then the hostess was told "just sit them at the table they were going to sit at". We then saw why, the table was right on top of the music stage where you can't hear to have a conversation. The couple that showed up after us didn't want that table so they then got our table...cool cool. Then when we ask to move to either of the 4top tables outside we're told they're only for 4 people...NOT 10 SECONDS LATER, they sit two 2tops in those same tables they said we couldn't sit at!! The what I'm assuming owner then walks over and says "hey Mr cranky". You just don't do that...I tell him that we were cool sitting right at either of those two tables, he said to my face we only sit 4tops there, AS TWO PEOPLE WERE JUST SAT!! Instead of finding a solution, he basically came to the attitude of "I just don't care about your business". So honestly I didn't like it the first time I went and after trying to give them a second chance, I never will again. read more

My husband and I have been wanting to try Chiba for a long time, but boy was it UNDERWHELMING. Save your money and eat elsewhere. Chiba gets 2 stars because staff was friendly and the atmosphere of the patio space was nice. We tried the Gyoza as an appetizer which was pretty decent and probably the only thing I liked from the evening. My husband ordered the crispy chicken and crawfish fried rice to share. The rice was pretty interesting and unique although not my personal taste. I could see where others would like it. The chicken had a nice texture, but desperately needed salt and seasoning. It just tasted vaguely like peanut oil and bland chicken. For my entree I got the Geisha Roll Combo because I love all things sushi and wasn't sure what to try and it came with 3 rolls. Honestly, it was incredibly disappointing. Everything was bland and this fish was NOT fresh tasting at all - it just had that strong seawater taste that cheap fish dishes get. I had two different types of fish in my rolls and they both tasted exactly the same. Also, sushi is sort of an art form and these rolls were sooo poorly constructed! Clunky, big ingredients, they were cut unevenly (one roll had 2 skinny pieces and one that was bigger than both those combined, not good for sharing evenly with others), and rolled poorly where pieces kept falling apart when I tried to pick them up off the plate because the bottom would just open up. Overall was very disappointed with the food as I had high hopes based on other reviews! This is the first time I've ever left essentially an entire roll worth of sushi behind because it was so bad - what a waste! If you're looking for actual good sushi I would recommend trying Kobayashi instead! It would have been half the price too. read more

I enjoyed dinner here. This place is tucked away in a residential area of Westfield with several other little restaurants. I love the unique atmosphere and I can't wait to eat here when the weather warms up. We sat in the bar area and although they were out of our first choice of wine we went with the Red Zin and it was good. We started off with the Crawfish fried rice and short rib tempura both were very good. I was surprised how much I liked the fried rice as I'm not usually a big fan but this rice was cooked perfectly and not the least bit greasy with big pieces of crawfish. Dinner was a tough decision but we picked 3 rolls and had no regrets. Let the Good Times, Mexican Grand Prix and Strawberry Satsuma I typically would not order sushi with fruit in it but this was probably my favorite of the 3. It had just a bit of spice followed by a slight sweet strawberry flavor. The owner told me this was one of his favs and really popular in this NOLA restaurant so I figured I had to try and I'm so glad I did! I will definitely be back as there are so many more things on the menu I want to try! Oh and I almost forgot! As if dinner couldn't get much better, we were treated to King Cake Bread Pudding. Went with a group of young professionals to get a bite to eat. They have great outdoor seating which is a plus for me in the summer time. We started with some cocktails. I had a coconut mojito which I was not to fond of, just too sweet for me. We shared some hot sake, which was a blast. We ordered edamame as an appetizer which was delicious. Another gentleman from the group tried to order Panko oysters but the waitress stated they had just run out of them. Several in the group ordered sushi. Just got takeout, and I'm seriously impressed. First, I was pleased by the nice presentation. Second, I noticed how big the pieces of nigiri sushi were, and not because of extra rice. The slices of fish were thick and heavy, and the quality was some of the best I've had in Indy. The rolls were great too. Big chunks of fish in the yellowtail scallion roll. The Bridgewater is a pricey specialty roll, but every bit worth it. The mango was just a small piece, so it didn't dominate, just added a hint of tart sweetness that played nicely with the fish and crispy fried tempura flakes. I had heard a handful of recommendations from colleagues about this little sushi place in Westfield that was great - great, however, was an understatement. I had been craving sushi and made plans with my best friend to meet up after work. I was running a bit early so decided to stop in and enjoy a drink before they arrived. I called before my arrival to confirm they were not on a waitlist and the man on the other end was very polite and informative, giving me directions to come straight back to the bar behind the restaurant; I ordered a "Chiba Painkiller" and loved the nutmeg topping. It was about 10 til 9pm when the waitress came up and informed me that the kitchen takes their last orders at 9pm and she'd be more than happy to put in my order and my friends if we'd like to. I gave him a quick call and unfortunately he was a little further away than anticipated. I updated her and she kindly brought my check and I departed shortly after; on my way out, the bartender politely apologized for the inconvenience and asked me back kindly. The next evening, my partner asked if I'd like to try the restaurant again for dinner and I PROMPTLY responded yes. I called my best friend (the tardy party from the evening before) and invited him to which he accepted. He got there a few minutes before us and already had a table in the main dining space, a room with plenty of space and a comfortable, cozy ambience. I also noticed they had a sushi bar which seemed very convenient for a quick lunch on the days they are open at 11:30am. Our waitress was very friendly and curtious. She allowed us the perfect timing to decide on drinks and appetizers, then entree's. The food arrived in a quick fashion and was UH-MAZING! Absolutely some of the best sushi I've had. We all ordered various options and each was delicious in its own right. After we finished our dinner, the waitress brought out a dessert on the house to our utter surprise. The blueberry tempura crumble was to die for! During dinner, I expressed interest in popping back to the stage building behind the main restaurant and through the small garden patio area (super cute!) as they had live music from 7-10p that evening. The waitress returned with a confirmation that she had spoken with the server in that area and had secured us a table near the stage. Shortly after, Keith whom is the owner, approached our table to introduce himself and turned out to be the bartender from the night before! He recognized me and wanted to personally thank me for coming in again. He was kind and very personable, humble in every definition of the word. As we were ready to head to the stage area, another associate approached me and introduced himself as our server and informed us that our table was ready at our convenience near the stage. We found our way back there and Casey continued to provide the excellent level of service we had experienced in the main dining room. The service in this restaurant was, honestly, the absolute best level I have ever experienced; and for the "first" visit nonetheless! Recently I met a friend at Chiba for lunch on a beautiful Saturday. We were greeted promptly and were able to choose our own table outside. The outside environment was wonderful, cozy yet not too close. Our server, who may have seemed like an owner, was attentive, informative and very accommodating. We had an appetizer, which came up fast and was delicious and plentiful! Our tasty salads followed by our entrees! Dinner: California roll - not being mean, but the guy at Markey District is awesome. Crawfish Fried Rice - saw slivers of mushroom so menu dscription was accurate, the name 'crawfish' may have been an exaggeration. We were trying to decide if we should have expected crawfish. (note its not listed as an ingredient so dont expect any). Chicken Katsu - I wish I took a pic. This looked the most appetizing until I saw a curly piece of carrot on top of my rice and recalled it is uspposed to be served with Asian Slaw. For the chicken, it was panko breaded and flavorless.
