Pork BBQ Skewers Combo
Shivi P.

Honestly would give this place a 5/5 alike with service and ambiance. Beautiful hidden gem! Love their plant wall. Also the service is fast, personal, and super friendly. We got the Combo with skewers. Everything was super fresh and I have never tried Filipino food so I will say some of the stuff may be a bit of an acquired taste but very good nonetheless. We also got the halo halo with one ice cream. Very unique dessert. If you take anything from this post please try the ube ice cream!! They make it fresh and it is amazing. On Saturdays they also make different and off-menu dishes. Will have to come back for that.

Loved everything about this place. The food, the service, the decor. 10/10! The bbq skewers were my fave along with the lumpia.

I was fortunate enough to have the Chibugan Cafe recommended to me while working in the Athens area and boy did it NOT disappoint!! I was thankful they had a little market area where I could pick up a few of my favorite Filipino snacks! The food was very authentic and delicious! I had the adobo plate and it took me back to my time in the Philippines which says a lot about the quality of the food! Playing a Filipino radio station was a nice touch too as some other Filipino places are scared that it will turn off non-Filipino customers. And the Ambiance is very laid back and simple which I liked a lot! I agree that if this restaurant was in a more populated setting it would be packed! The team working there were so kind and very personable in our conversations and overall I just wish they were closer to where I lived as I would probably frequent them weekly! If you're curious about Filipino cuisine, or miss your Filipino home cooking, this is the spot! As another review states they do specials on Saturdays , going to make that trip myself as I was too stuffed to get the Halo Halo but saved that for my next visit!

Its a really nice looking shop on the inside, with plenty of options. The menu was smaller than expected for "entrees" however the options for food in general is vast. The pastries looked good I wanted to indulge, however Id have to save my sweettooth for another time. I came in specifically for an entree, I got the Chibugan Combo Max plate. It was really good my only complaint is it isn't enough lumpia . Other than that it was very filling, flavorful and affordable.

Menu

Very friendly service. The food was delicious & fresh. I had a chicken pesto sandwich which I highly recommend! I cannot wait to go back & try the lumpia.

Sandwich bread was dry and hard. Some of the meat tasted sour. Not worth getting food poisoning. Would not recommend.

Kuyas Food Express in Duluth City Farmers Market…read more I finally tried this Filipino food stall after seeing so many recommendations, and here's everything I ordered. Sizzling Sisig Comes with chopped pork, sour-style dressing, sunny side up egg, and rice. Best part is letting it sit longer on the hot plate so the pork gets slightly crispy and more flavorful. Adding extra lemon really enhances the taste. Only downside, the rice stayed too long on the plate and became a bit too hard to chew. Tokwa't Baboy Crispy pork with fried tofu in a sour soy-fish sauce. The pork was a bit fatty for my preference, but the crispy skin was really good. The fried tofu was the highlight, it soaked up the sauce and was super flavorful in every bite. Halo Halo Ube ice cream, flan, shaved ice, condensed milk, and mixed fruits like banana and sweet potato. Very refreshing and sweet. The flan was amazing, just wish the portion was bigger.

I ordered the pork skewers and they were absolutely amazing. Super flavorful, smoky, and tender. It was actually one of the best things I've had at the festival. I had never heard of them before, but I'm so glad I came across their stand. I'll definitely be visiting their restaurant soon to try the rest of their menu!

After almost 2 years of being a regular customer here (I only continue to go for group-shopping's sake), here are some of my observations. 1. The lady boss here is the meanest person I have encountered during my stay in the US. Not even in big cities like New York I find such rude people. I don't know how she survives in Athens, GA where they have very high standards for courteous and polite behavior. 2. This lady treats foreign students, on whom her business depends, like shit. I have observed this countless number of times. For example, the way the employees greet foreign students is significantly different from the way they welcome the others. It has been apparent that the employees are told to follow the students to see whether they steal. This is f***ed up! 3. While they accept Visa and Master for payments above $5, they always give a frustrated look when we try to pay something around $10 with card. If you have a problem, adjust your policy! 4. Mean-toned remarks at the counter are frequent. "Step aside", "Put what's in your hand on the table"...what's your problem? I kindly ask the local patrons to observe this disgusting manner this place treats its customers and do something within your capacity.

No fault to the restaurant and they cooked me a fresh batch when I got inside since they said my food was cold. For the food - I ordered the Bistec Rice Bowl with Garlic Rice and the Calamansi Wings. The Bistec was a bit tough and the garlic rice that I paid extra was extra oily and didn't really have enough garlic flavor like other Filipino restaurants I have been to. The Calamansi wings were disappointing - the crunch and crisp was there but the flavor was completely lacking. There was some like lime salt on the outside but there was no flavor to whatsoever on the meat that was cooked underneath the skin. I thought the wings would be marinated in a special sauce then fried but that wasn't the case. Nice staff but I'm not sure that I would go back to try the other stuff.

Also an absolute must and my #1 dish recently - the eggplant curry. If you're a protein bro and resistant to get get vege dishes - trust me you still want this one. Just get some extra wings (which are bangers too). I like the idea of the fried fish but as a seafood snob it was average (usually I hate in seafood). The noodles (one with the bean) was excellent. I tried also two desserts with Ube - flan and crème brûlée. Both so good but brûlée was the winner for me. Service is good - just a bit busy so you'll have to make a reservation most likely for a high demand time and expect rushing waiters.

So you need to be diligent in the first place to get a reservation and after arriving, I realized why because the place was completely packed even for an early scheduled dinner. It is located in a huge strip mall with a bunch of other restaurants and a lot of shared parking, but it gets full so you have to get lucky to find a spot and luckily parking is free While the website says they welcome walk-ins I can tell you now that on the weekend for dinner dinners good luck This was our first time here and we ordered quite a few items as you can tell from the photos. While the food is good, I will tell you that it is unique while still authentic for example, the crispy Palabok pancit is quite trendy. The lumpia Shanghai was good and you could actually taste the pork. The dessert of the flan combined cake was also good and not overly sweet. The chicken adobo was a bit on the salty side. And frankly, I thought there would be more chicken. The pork barbecue skewers were good, but not sweet and usually Filipino barbecue is supposed to be more on the sweeter side. The Halo halo was unique in the sense that it had some odd fixings on it such as marshmallows and candy that are not part of a special let alone traditional version of this. It also was missing quite a few ingredients that are what I would deem required. For example, no jackfruit and no sweet beans. I have to say, though this place definitely does justice to the Filipino culture and Filipino cuisine overall it is still a great strong restaurant that I would recommend you go to and check out. I have no other comparisons for the area, but this was definitely well worth the visit. The decor is absolutely incredible as well. Truly authentic and pays good homage to the culture and country. Congratulations to these owners and cooks for all that they have accomplished and so happy to be able to patronize Filipino owners. If I'm back in the area, definitely would come back here and try other dishes and I hope that it is all just as delicious as this meal.
