Location very accessible, found in downtown Athens with a super nice welcoming front entry. Service was quick and amazing, very family oriented. Super polite and served food fast. We started off with a very friendly greeting from the owner and a cold beer. Fried dumplings and summer rolls, both were decent. Mutha pho came next and while i would have liked more tendon the broth was excellent. The thinly sliced steak was perfect, the meatball chunks were the star. Excellent!!! Other reviews have noted that the owner of this restaurant does not like white people, and sadly I concur as the owner is blatant about her distaste. Rude staff, decor is dust covered and the food is nothing like described on the menu, when I asked about getting the wrong food I was told that their Pad Thai is always made with thin vermicelli (which had clearly been reheated), the cabbage is supposed to be in the dish, and that the sauce is supposed to have the sour bite to it (I was told "that's not vinegar that's Vietnamese flavor"), when I tried to send it back, I was told that white people don't like Vietnamese flavor and they would not remove the item from the bill. I was in town for a conference this week. Decided to give this place a try because I was in the mood for some tofu and it was in walking distance of my hotel. I ordered the Lemongrass Tofu with Steamed Rice, which I quickly found out that was a mistake. There was maybe 5 pieces of tofu in this dish and I could barely taste any lemongrass in the dish. The steamed rice tasted as though it had been sitting all day. It was very hard and dry in most parts even when I tried putting some soy sauce on it. And this dish costs $14.50 which was incredibly overpriced for what I received. It was probably my mistake for ordering this dish considering that they are mostly likely better known for their Pho. The gentleman that took my order was friendly. And the inside of the restaurant looks like your typical take out restaurant. The outside seating is a little nicer. read more

I love Pho and this place did not disappoint!! We all agreed that their broth is very tasty! It has a rich star anis/cinnamon flavor. We got the spring shrimp roll appetizer and the satay chicken skewer. Good stuff. For entrees, we got one chicken Phó and one shrimp vegetable Phó.. I wish we got the Large! It was tasty!! Mother Pho is a great lunch spot. I appreciate that you can get veggie pho. They make a solid Bahn mi and the lemongrass tofu rice bowl is really good (make sure to get both the sweet chili sauce and the yum yum sauce). The front patio is perfect on a nice day. (2) I asked for pickled chili peppers [ot ngam giam] and the Viet server mockingly told me that ot ngam giam is a Thai condiment and that MoPho is a Viet restaurant. What the hell..? The remark caught me by surprise because I know ot ngam giam is Viet! The Thai version is 'nam som prik.' The entire Indochinese Peninsula uses it. (3) Broth was bland. Lacked flavor - basically had to drench by pho in hoisin (Chinese) and sriracha (Thai), something I do not like doing. I'm very sad to write this review, as I was a loyal customer here and loved bringing my friends with me to get pho. Usually, the customer service from the ladies here was wonderful. However, after my experience today with the male owner, I will not be returning. I ordered a Thai bubble tea along with my meal, and the tapioca pearls were soggy and lumpy, and the drink tasted a bit chemical-like. I've never asked for anything to be comped off of my meal before, but given that the drink was 6 dollars and I did not drink it, I decided to kindly vocalize my discontent once he asked me how the food was. He very rudely said there was nothing he could do for me as he had already made the drink "fresh" for me and that was money out of his pocket. He looked at me as though I was terrible for asking for my drink to be taken off the bill due to its inedibility and asked if I understood what he was saying. I explained that the tea was not made fresh, or at least the tapioca wasn't, as I've had bubble tea many times before and know that the tapioca pearls become soggy if they are left for hours after making them. I also believe that the tea itself was pre-packaged as it was very brightly colored and chemical-like compared to other Thai milk teas I have had. This drink shouldn't have required an immense amount of labor to make, and I don't believe that he should have made such a big deal about my request as he did. He still refused to do anything to remedy the situation, and overall, the interaction was very rude. I found this to be terrible customer service and I think that it's unfortunate that the owner prioritizes a single drink over the satisfaction of his customers. the food here was very disappointing, i love Vietnamese food because the flavors are clean and fresh. this was not the case here. i ordered the pad thai. the pork was dry, curled up and tasteless . in other words, elderly. the shrimp were chewy. There were chunks of cabbage stems, not even the leaves. Never had pad thai with cabbage before. The noodles appeared to be reheated: they were stuck together in clumps. My husband had a dish with beef; like the pork, the meat was tough, dry and flavorless. it seemed that they were using the cheapest possible ingredients for the food. This location was Maba Grill several years ago, and may have been another Vietnamese place in between. Apparently it's a well suited spot for that type of cuisine, a style of food that I could eat day in and day out. Pho places are fairly mainstream now, and Mother Pho, despite its eye-rolling name, didn't disappoint. The interior is super clean and cool - wow points for the slick bathroom and the crystal display hanging over the cash register. Our server was very nice and prompt without hovering, the summer rolls with shrimp YES-OH-YES, and my lemongrass chicken level 3 spicy were outrageously good. The one thing that I found unusual was being served a soda in an expired 16 oz. bottle. Tasted fine, but it was 4 months past its sell-by date, and we weren't given glasses of ice to pour it in, so I hated to have such a nice meal in between slugging a Coke from a plastic bottle. If I was taking food to-go, it would be great to have a sealed drink to have in the bag, but dining in a restaurant where I can't get a refill on a fountain drink was just odd.
