He said he test drove the car and all those things I was describing only happens when you have it in low gear. Come on REALLY everybody knows if they were in low gear or not. I was kind of insulted. The guys here were friendly, that's worth a couple of stars. My car started making a sudden clunking sound so I stopped in Chicago Auto Center since it was close and had ok reviews. They checked my car and determined that I just had a loose undercarriage cover that was dragging underneath and reattached it, seemed strange because the sound I was hearing wasn't a "scraping" sound but I guess I was hoping for the best (cheapest). I drove away and the sound was still there, so I immediately turned around and went back to have them check it out again. About 15 minutes later they said they could see absolutely nothing wrong, bearings and brakes look fine, it's probably just the extreme cold we'd had the days before freezing something up (it had been -25 degrees that week) and to let it thaw. I drove away feeling way better having a simple diagnosis. But the sound got worse that day, and I decided I needed a second opinion and stopped somewhere else that night. Fast forward to the next day, I'm told my bearings are shot, brakes could use a replacement and it's almost time for new tires. "Good thing these bearings didn't snap off and you didn't lose a wheel while driving." So, thanks for being friendly guys but seems like you probably should have caught that and not sent me on my way. read more

My car was making this awful grinding noise that I was pretty sure was because of the brake pads. I am not from here and honestly never use auto repair shops because my dad and I would always work on our cars at home but now that I moved to Chicago I was very nervous to find a repair shop that would not scam me. I went to the Chicago Auto Center because it is close to my work and I am so glad I did. They replaced my rear brake pads, right front headlight, and right taillight all for a super reasonable price! My car was returned to me in less than 12 hours and that was only because I brought it in right before closing time (which they were great about). Also, they went above and beyond and washed the outside of my car and also vacuumed and wiped down the inside of my car. Went to lunch in Greektown one Saturday afternoon, and I was parked on the 200 block of S. Green. Came back to the car to find all the coolant was on the ground. I ran down the block to this place, saw they were open, and drove the car several thousand feet down the street. They got super-pissed because they were closing in 15 minutes, but I explained multiple times that I would leave the car for Monday. I live off the Blue line and was glad this was right by it and the car didn't have to be towed. I had to keep calling them throughout the day on Monday to see where they were at with the car. They never once called me and kept getting my car confused with another in the shop. At 3 pm I asked what was going on, they said "Give us an hour, we'll have it done." Called at 4 pm , guy said "Give us an hour, we'll be done." Then I asked "How long does it take to install a $2 connector for the radiator hose??" He then said they'd have it done in 30. I walked there from my job downtown, and paid the $90 bill for the repair of the $2 part. read more

I got off work and noticed my tire pressure was low by the dash. So I pulled over to notice a nail in My tire. Pissed, having to get on 290, I got off at the 1st exit at Ashland and Googled the nearest place, which was this one as they were one of the few open at 8 a.m. As I go in they're looking at Me funny (used to that vibe living in Chicago) and with minimal eye contact, I was asked "Yea?" As polite as can be I informed the gentleman behind the counter of the situation and was met with: "Yea, when the mechanic gets in." As I stood there a couple more seconds, he the uttered "He should be here about 10-15 mins." So I went back to my car to wait. This was 8:07a.m. At 8:27, I went back in and asked if the 'mechanic' was there. This guy then shrugs, looking clueless saying "Uh-uh". Already looking up other shops open, I called the closest to them, Carson Tire Service, where I am now writing this, and they said they could right then. Only got a star because U can't do no stars. Used to this in Chicago. read more

It's difficult to find a good mechanic that can diagnose what's wrong with a car. Owning an older Audi, having a mechanic that knows what he is doing is literally priceless. A friend of mine recommended these guys, so I gave them a try. I had them complete the full timing belt service that Audi drivers do around 95,000 miles. They were extremely knowledgeable and professional. I have since been back for multiple car related issues, and each time they were timely and courteous. I couldn't be happier, because each time they work on something I've never had to go back for that same issue. The pricing also seemed fair for the jobs they were doing, which is another major plus. The hand car wash is also one of the best I have been to. You may have to wait a few minutes (because apparently everyone loves this car wash), but it's because they take their time and do a really nice job! And they have a comfortable waiting room. read more

I had gone for this auto center on July 31 and the receptionist who called Aidan told to to go to the center August 1 early in this morning. Then, I went there 7:45am. Aidan told me they will do the inspection before they maintain the car. At 10 am, I called the center to make sure they are able to reach me. Aidan told me they are doing the inspection now. At 4:10 pm, I got the called from the auto center. The center told me they got many works and would not be able to fix me car. This auto center did innately not customer orientated and organized. Great work for less than I anticipated! I brought my Jeep in for a complete 100k mile overhaul, trans, cooling system, brakes, belts, differential, oil, PCV valve, O2 sensors, everything... They quoted me less than what I expected to pay as calculated using apps and comparison websites. Then when the work was finished it was even less than they quoted, and they told me that there was work that I requested that wasn't necessary because things were still in good working order. To top it all off they threw in a free car wash. I'm a happy customer. read more

I was in a tight spot -- my catalytic converter was stolen. (Yes, that shit happens.) I called the mechanic nearest to where I was, and it happened to be Chicago Auto Center. They assured me they had time to fix me up and told me to come on in. I drove over (gingerly), left them the vehicle and they called me within the hour with two repair options: one expensive, one cheap. They assured me the cheap option was just as reliable as the expensive. So that's what I did. The repair was done in an hour or so -- less than the time they quoted me -- and when I went over to retrieve my car, I found they had given it a complimentary wash. So not only does the car not sound like an Indy stock car, or have a dangling exhaust pipe scraping the street, it looks and smells pretty too. (Well, as pretty as a ten-year-old car can.) So this customer, at least, is happy. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!! DO NOT DO NOT! Bought tires from Tire Rack and had them delivered here for installation. I figured I'd get a new battery while I was at it. Big mistake. They insisted they gave me a new more powerful battery, well, it was a dud and fine, stuff happens but when I brought it in after the car being completely dead they said it was probably because I left a light on. I've had the car for years and never left a light on, I don't even think you can without it alerting you. I feel like as a single woman with car problems, they were just like, whatever it must be her issue, not ours. They kept it for two days, while I spent money taking Ubers around the city and then they said it is all clear. The car did the SAME THING the next week and I brought it back and the guy insisted it must have been because a light was on (a light did go on when I put my bike the back of the car because I had to ride my bike to pick up my dead car but it hadn't been on before, I'm not a dolt, I would notice if driving around at night with an interior light on). I'm sorry, but it was not a light, it was just a bad battery. Also, he played with the light and now there are dirty finger marks all over the ivory cloth. Why? If I had been a dude they probably would've listened to him on the first go around and replaced the battery. I've lost countless hours going back and forth, waiting for jumps, taking Ubers, etc... All to end up with a car with black fingerprints stained on the interior. Ugh, these guys. read more

These guys are beyond amazing. It's impossible to find quality, timeliness, and reliability in an auto shop, but these guys go above and beyond. I have been shocked at how quickly they have been able to get things done, and how accommodating they are as well. I've gotten tires, brakes, and rotors shipped here and they let me know I could drop my car off as soon as it gets there and they had me out of there that very same day. I recently had a flat tire, and got a replacement shipped in as well, and they moved their schedules around to install my tire within that same hour just so that I didn't have to take any time off work to get this done. I'll be going here for all my car needs moving forward. read more

I've been coming to this establishment well before the ownership and management changed hands a few years ago, mostly to have my car washed. They do a terrific job of auto detailing, but the wait times are horrendous. I've waited for 45 minutes to simply move my cartwo spots forward only to finally give up and leave. Son of presumed owner (or manager) seemed somewhat genuine on the phone, but when entering the shop the manager was very disgruntled and dismissive (imagine the worst customer service you could possibly have). I ultimately had to have my car towed from them to another repair shop as they clearly had no idea what they were doing (there were mechanics wanted sign on the door--it might be nice if they get one at some point). read more

My hood was stuck and I couldn't fill up my wiper fluid (and this was essential during Chicago winters) so I stopped by after work to get it looked at. Within a few minutes the person attending me fixed it. Turns out the hood was just stuck and needed a little messing around with to get open. He sprayed a bit of oil to keep all the parts lubricated and even filled my wiper fluid for me-- all free of charge! Thank you for your service and I'll be sure to bring my car here for any future needs. Honest people and great hours. They were one of the few places I could find that remains open on weekdays after typical work hours and they are opened on Saturday. read more

They are beyond honest....on multiple occasions when I take my car car back to tweek something (because there more was wrong then we both thought), I literally beg them to charge me something and he will not take it. Beware when someone cannot hold eye contact when working with you. Heat in car was not working. Thought the fan would be broken. Called Sat morning and was told I could come in on a Saturday to have it looked at. Got there, waited for 3 hours, then when walked back up to the desk was told they would need to keep another day. I took home and dropped off on Monday. Needed to have a blower motor replaced. Did work. $800+ total for just a blower motor and labor. Seemed to work at the time, but weather has been warm. Weeks later, the heat would not even blow hot air at all. The blower was kind of working, but was definately not like a normal car would blow heat. Took to another mechanic and worked it through friends in the business. 1. The blower fans were spinning the wrong way. 2. No heat at the feet? Of course not, the link was not connected. 3. After market part? Did not even fit in there correctly. Only one way to go in and the mechanic put it in wrong anyways. Was not an OEM part. 4. He ripped me off on the cost of the part (I was told $400 instead of the $600 he charged). Adam did offer to have me come back down and have it fixed. Would return to BMW (or his aftermarket place) to get right part. He said he cannot return a part unless he orders another to replace it. Cannot return without a reason. Well..I thought that putting in the wrong one was reason enough. I'll pay an extra $400 through another mechanic to have him never touch my car again. I don't have time to make 3 trips back to a mechanic on something that should have been simple. They will wash your car for you though. They did a good job there. read more

They are the worst!!! My car got damaged during a car wash by the metal belt buckle on the jeans of their employee. I witnessed it happen. The ignorant manager without even introducing himself tried to convince me that it's a rock chip. Refused to offer any solution and has not responded to any communication. Just wanted to stop by to show some love for this place and to help bump up their star rating. I've had work done on my car on three separate occasions here and the service is top-notch. Most recently today, I took my car in first thing this morning for the check engine light and to rotate the tires (following a terrible experience at Wal-Mart where the idiot stripped one of the lug nuts and then declined to finish the job). Not only did they identify and fix the problem with the engine quickly, but they replaced the missing lug nut for free and also replaced a brake light that had burned out for free as well. In addition to this, after they had finished the work and were ready to hand the car over, they realized the engine was still shaking. They were very apologetic and offered to take another look and would call me back. Less than an hour later, the problem was resolved, no extra charge. My two previous experiences were very similar. The first time was for a problem with my headlights, and they were good about communicating to me that they wouldn't get a part in until the next day, and allowed me to take my car home and come back the next day even though they had already started working on it and ordered the part. Then last winter, on one of the coldest days of the year, the motor on my driver's side window died and the window went crashing down inside the door. They repaired this the same day very quickly as well. The new location on Van Buren is so incredibly convenient to my work, and generally convenient to anyone downtown or in the West Loop, with the Blue line and 290 less than a block away. You can also get your car washed and/or detailed now as well. I highly recommend Chicago Auto Center for anyone that works downtown and needs work done on their car. read more

Wow, definitely surprised by the negative reviews. I LOVE Chicago Auto Center. They're awesome. The first experience I ever had with them was when my car mysteriously died in a parking lot and they were the nearest auto shop. I called them up, and they sent someone out, in the rain, near closing time, to come help me. I drove back to the shop so they could check it out. After all that, they charged me, I think, a whopping $10. And it's been happily ever after ever since. These guys have never swindled me because I'm a woman going to an auto shop by herself. Once, after they replaced my starter, I brought in my car because I noticed something or other unusual that I thought was related, and after they checked EVERYthing and couldn't find anything wrong, they didn't charge me, even after all that labor. They've never tried to, say, upsell fancypants windshield wipers or premium fluids or anything like that, which has definitely happened to me before. They are just totally bang-up professionals, which is great. The car is always ready when they say it will be, the invoice is very clear, I don't think I've ever been overcharged for parts or services (I've done some research and asking around for comparative rates for things when I've had doubts). Seriously, would recommend this place to everybody. Dealing with a car can be so stressful, and taking my car here is so the opposite. I trust them 100%. read more

This place ROCKS! I have been going to Chicago Auto Center for about 5 years. They are close to my place of employment so it is convenient to drop my car off in the morning and I have never had a problem with a repair or service not being completed at the promised time. I am also WOWED by their honesty. There has been more than one occasion where I've brought my car in because of a warning or check engine light. Each time they have informed me of the need for a minor repair or none at all...and I'm never charged for the diagonostic evaluation.They have also thrown in a complimentary car wash a coupl eof times. In my experience with repair shops, this is truly as good as it gets. read more

Also they provide the diagnostic analysis for high performance autos. If they can not perform the work or its out of thier capability, they will inform you.
