If negative stars was an option I would proudly put it for a review of this group of con artists. Came in for my car over heating and received an itemized list of repairs with multiple services doubled and all quotes were way above what it should be. They charge 140 just to look at the car and they pick and choose if that total goes toward the repair. Which none of mine qualified to them. Upon paying and heading to my car to go to another shop they have broken or removed the hood access latch making them the only source of repair once more seeing that they know I need to add coolant to get to the next shop. my so called repair man ALEX (useless by the way) never mentioned problems with the hood or anything aside from the list given and offered zero clarity or assistance when asked how this happened. Horrible experience very stressful........ would recommend to my worst enemy. I only got my oil changed with them and that was a two day battle leading to this.......management is equally as arrogant. Having the front desk help say he's not in when he is sitting in the waiting room avoiding customers and responsibility. The couple behind me happened to have the same issue and I pray they left before falling deeper into this scam. They also give you 24 hours to pick up your car but leave it in a tow zone right after repair. Sooo happy I came at opening to see that mess...... could have paid and returned to a towed vehicle. read more

Chicago Auto is the first shop that made me feel informed and respected through this process. From the moment I walked in, the staff was professional and patient. They explained everything in detail and made sure I understood the process and the repairs needed. They didn't pressure me into unnecessary repairs or try to upsell me. They also have a texting system that made everything so much easier. They text you updates and provide a link to their system which includes estimates with detailed explanations and pictures. This is way better than a call in my opinion because it gave me time to review in detail before agreeing to any work. They said the cost would be $280 service and $143 parts then said they could do by the next day. Then said they could not do until next week in the middle of the week once I paid literally within that hour. Then I told them I really needed to use the car was it drivable and they said yes no more damage could really be done. Then I drive it and instantly can tell more problems can be done if I do and come back to drop off and right before there the car stopped working. Now they say it'll cost me $1850 more and they never told me I can drive it and it wouldn't hurt the car. They suck at what they do. The service guys are idiots, do not go here. read more

I've been coming to Chicago auto repair for years!! As you know- It's such a relief to find an auto mechanic that you can trust let alone be within walking distance. I have a 2006 Sequoia that's hard to find parts for but Jimmy always pulls through. The service is fast and the prices are reasonable with today's inflated economy. I also bring my 2019 Rover Sport for its occasional oil changes and wear and tear parts to save $$ compared to the dealership, but more importantly I trust their work. Their waiting area is super clean and hosts a fancy cappuccino machine I've yet to figure out lol. All of my friends that i send to Jimmy have nothing but good experiences to report back. Terrible service. Took car in for a diagnosis, all they did was read my codes and tell me they needed $1,500 to take apart my engine to actually figure out the issue not including fixing the issue. I told them not to worry about it and I'll take my car back. So they charged me $110 for simply using the code reader, which takes 5 seconds and you can do at autozone for free. I wrote a negative review about this miscommunication and over charging for simple code reading so they immediately called me to get mad at me about giving them a bad review Then decided to threaten me with fees for keeping my car overnight (something they never mentioned before seeing my bad review). Terrible service, overpriced, and fragile egos. Waste of time and money. And didn't even give me the ACTUAL code reading. Just printed out recommendations for what to fix read more

Where do I start? Initially, things were positive, got towed here to get a mechanical issue repaired. During that, they noted there was a leaking valve that needed to be repaired. I came back a few months later to get that repaired and all the problems started there. This repair caused more issues. The moment I left the site the car was making sounds it wasn't normally making. This sound was from a coolant leak that they caused and other damages they caused but didn't note. This noise was non-existent before the repair and was present immediately after. Fast forward a few months, I came in to get this repaired as there was no heat to the cabin of the car during the subzero days in Chicago, they charged over 1k for the repairs, for issues they caused. Then within 3 weeks of the repair, the coolant was already drained again, clearly a leak that they didn't fix after saying their repairs should have fixed the issues... Clearly, they didn't fix the issue and are only causing more issues to get you trapped in an endless repair loop. Already over 2k on repairs, I would avoid it at all costs. read more

My Honda CRV needed to be towed to a nearby repair shop. Instead of using my Yelp fam for guidance, I used my Google fam for their opinions. I saw 4.8 rating so I thought this had to be the spot. I had my car towed here and was greeted by a nice female, Theresa(??). She said she just started last week but it seemed like she owned the place. Professional and likable. I told her what I was doing and she said no prob. She told me to give them 30 mins to see what the prob is and they'll let me know. She lied. It was only 10 minutes and the mechanic who was nice too told me it was my starter. I figured it was. I was quoted 2 hours so I decided to come back later. Before I left I used their restroom which was clean & nicely decorated. Theresa offered me a drink from the fridge which included Sprite, Diet Coke & bottled water. The waiting room was nicely decorated too. I love the idea of using used tires as a base for the coffee table. They had a tv playing. Ample seating. I came back later though the car was promised a few hours ago I couldn't take it with me since I had my other car. I met the owner who was nice too. Picked up car with brother and as soon as we reached 2 miles the check engine light came on. We went back and informed them of issue. Apparently the tech forgot to connect the cable. Once connected it went off and stayed off - so far so good. Not sure if I was overcharged but I felt they did a good job. Me & my brother are no mechanics. I gave them a 4 instead of a 5 because the tech forgot to connect the cable & it was promised in 2 hours but took a tad longer. Overall a good experience. Thanks guys. read more

Came here after the OBD system wouldn't register for the emissions test. A diagnostic was performed by Chicago Auto Repair and found no issue. After I talked to Jim he blamed the emissions test people that I had gone to just an hour before. I informed him that I think they need to do a more thorough investigation. My concerns were dismissed and I was charged for the diagnostic evaluation. I then took the car back. As expected the emissions test continued to fail. I was then informed by Jim that they can do an official diagnostic evaluation of my wiring for an additional cost, even though they had already done a diagnostic and would charge me per hour. I refused to come back to Chicago Auto Repair after they already scammed me out of a $110. The next Auto repair shop looked at the wiring for free and had found that Jim's team left behind a zip tie around my wiring from a previous issue 3 months prior. This place does not listen to the customer and dismissed me multiple times when I had asked if the problem could be related to the prior repair. PLEASE DO NOT come here. It seems affordable and the people seem nice, but they dismiss you and create more problems from their poorly trained staff. read more
