If I could give more than five stars, I absolutely would. Today, a Friday, I had one of those frustrating moments many drivers know all too well. I walked out to my car after work to discover my battery was dead because my hazard lights had been on for hours in the parking lot. As a school psychologist who travels all over the city of Chicago for work, the last thing I needed at the end of a long day was to be stranded and frazzled. From the very first moment I called, these gentlemen were the definition of professionalism! They answered the phone immediately, listened to what was going on, and said something that stuck with me: "You're part of our neighborhood. This is what neighbors do for neighbors." True to their word, they arrived within about 30 seconds, fully prepared with the proper tools to jumpstart my battery. They were courteous, calm, and incredibly kind; exactly what you hope for when you're feeling a bit overwhelmed. Within 10 minutes they had my car up and running and me back on the road. What stood out even more than their technical skill was their character. They were thoughtful, good-humored, and genuinely caring. We even chatted briefly about family and one of them spoke proudly about his daughter, and overall the whole interaction felt human and sincere, not transactional. A rarity in today's upside down world! When I tried to offer a small gratuity for coffee or a sandwich, they politely refused. I insisted they take it anyway because service like that deserves recognition. They also took the time to give me helpful advice,suggesting I keep a jumper cables a toolkit in my car and sharing a few practical tips to make sure I arrived home safely. In a moment when I felt a little let down that my car sat for hours in a busy work parking lot without anyone mentioning my hazards had been on, these two stepped in, stepped up and reminded me what genuine kindness and community look like. My experience was really good. Ive gone 2 times. The first I needed an alternator replaced which hit hard bc another shop had replaced an alternator 3 years earlier. James helped me see the logic and work through my uncertainty. Then 3 weeks later my car didn't start. I eventually got it started took it back. Originally was focused on the electric system but friends talked me through. I called back and again James listened to my input. They kept the car two days ran tests couldn't find anything and did not charge me. Mostly I am glad they allow me to learn and make sense of the situation. As an academic I have a lot of questions which could be annoying but they allow me to ask. I like to understand the full picture when things go wrong. The service is always fantastic here! This shop is just a little further from our place than another shop, but we always prefer coming here instead. They always answer when we call and are very respectful. My only "negative" is that they're short a couple guys so it's hard to get an appointment. Personally, most mechanics can make me feel uncomfortable because it always feels like they're trying to upsell you or add a surprise charge. This place has never made us feel like that. We also walk our dog past the shop regularly and they seem to constantly be hard at work and filled with cars. Good for them! read more

Had my car towed there when it wouldn't start. I assumed it was the starter. A&P felt the same way and ordered a new starter. When the starter arrived, the tech tested the battery again and found that the battery was the problem. I took my car here for a few years, and always felt I was only getting part of the story from Auerilio. This turned out to be quite true the last time I brought my car here, which is also very likely the last car I will ever bring in for service at A&P. I had my car towed here when it died on the street. Auerilio informed me "the engine is shot" and I should just junk the car. He explained to me the situation, stating the he knew the engine was shot the last time I brought my car in. When I asked him why he did not tell me thatat that time and sold me a $350 brake job when he "knew" the engine was shot, he went silent. Auerilio also told me it would be $5000. for a rebuilt engine. I did a little research and found an engine for $1100. and someone to install it for $600. I did decide not to keep the car and sold it to a mechanic for $450. (I had over $4500. in the car). A week later the mechanic told me the engine was fine, and that the car just needed a new timing belt. He did the work himself and the parts cost him a couple of hundred dollars I saw the car running myself. I stopped in a few weeks later and told Auerilio about the economic loss I had suffered due to his false rendering of a diagnosis. His response, "Well, I've never heard of anyone being able to replace the timing chain successfully." The conclusion here is this place will only tell you what they want you to know, and if they do not feel like doing the proper repairs, they will tell you all sorts of lies. Find a mechanic you can trust, I have. It's not these guys. read more

Well, my mind is at ease that I finally found an auto shop that I can trust. I brought my car in to be inspected. They offered to drive me home, because it was going to be a couple hours before they could inspect my car. Once they called, were completely honest and told me all the issues that my car had, but that nothing was in need of immediate repair. They could've tried to make some money off of me, but they didn't. And today when I went to pick up my car, they had all the snow cleaned off and even warmed up for me. So I neglected my brakes at little too long and it was time to get them fixed. My vehicle is no longer under warranty so I decided to skip the dealer this time around. I chose this place because they have good Yelp reviews and the location is convenient for me. Plus I feel good patronizing a small neighborhood business instead of a dealer. The job was done on time and the price was within the ballpark for such a job. They also did some extra work without charge. Someone sideswiped my rear bumper and part of it was loose. The mechanic put in a couple of screws to tighten it so it would flap around when I drove. A quick fix that is really appreciated until I get to a body shop. I also had an oil change done. My car takes synthetic oil and the price here was comparable to what a Jiffy Lube charges even with a coupon. I will definitely be back here and would recommend this shop. read more

I will be returning to Augusta & Paulina Service for future oil changes, and service recommendations. I did purchase an oil change package which was sold as more economical than paying individually each time. I also stopped in one morning without an appointment to get a blinker bulb replaced, and this took about 5 minutes, then on my way again. I've never written an update before, I I figured this warranted my first one. I just took my 3-year-old car to a Mazda dealership to have it inspected because it was making a slight rattling noise. The cause of this little rattle? Some mangled hardware around the oil cap. Was this normal wear and tear? No - it was caused by whomever changed the oil. Instead of taking the time to remove the hardware with the proper tools, it had been repeatedly ripped off. The damage? It took over $400 to repair. But it could have been worse if it hadn't been caught it when it was. A crack in the oil cap was inevitable and could have completely ruined my engine. That certainly would have cost a LOT more to repair. My point? Someone changing my oil caused a lot of damage to my car in an effort to cut corners. I can't say that Augusta & Paulina Service Station did the initial damage, as I have had my oil changed at multiple places. However, they would have surely should have noticed the obvious damage each time they replaced my oil, yet never told me about it. That is not good service. Had an oil change here the other day. The first time I attempted to go, I was informed that all of the service guys would be going to lunch and I'd have to wait at least an hour (not quite a 10 minute oil change). I had some other things to do, but figured I'd come back since it's in the nieghborhood (and not much else is close by). The second time I went back, my car got brought right in. It was more of a 20-25 minute wait this time, but my car didn't make any of the weird noises it sometimes makes after getting an oil change. They also didn't try to tell me any sorts of "special oil" or other add-ons, which I appreciated. Oil change itself was $31, which is what I had been paying back in Ann Arbor anyway. Would definitely go again the next time I need an oil change! For those of you looking for service/labor, it's posted that their current rate is about $95/hour + parts. read more

They're always good at communicating about what your car needs and work quickly. they have helped me out of a jam on more than one occasion. I fully trusted them when my old car needed major repairs and they priced it out and helped me to make the decision to finally (sadly) put it to pasture. Okay, i've never actually had anything fixed here, so take this review for what it is worth. I have, however, brought my car here twice to get an estimate of work to be done. Each time i've been in, the problem and the cost to fix it seems to get worse the longer I talk to the guys. Both times, I received additional quotes from other reputable mechanics, and the other mechanics always came in much less than this place. The real cause of the problem, both times, turned out to be not nearly as bad as they told me it was. This last time I dropped it off to be looked at...I didn't give permission for any work to be done, mind you....a few hours later they called back and told me that they tightened a bolt for me and that it would be $45 (oh, that's in addition to the other $750 they told me it would take to fix a problem that another mechanic estimated around $300). Seriously?!? On the invoice, it said .67 hours of labor. Does it really take 2/3 of an hour to tighten a bolt?? Ridiculous. I'm all for paying a little extra if you trust the work, but the bottom line, for me, is that I just don't trust them enough to have work done here. Maybe their mechanics do good work, but I think they try to up-sell customers on work that doesn't need to be done. Wish I would have had a better experience. read more

We have been bringing our car here for almost 3 years: oil changes, brakes, you name it. They do a great job being straightforward on the main issue and possible fixes and never try to sell anything additional or unnecessary. We have an older vehicle that has required fixes all across the board and they have done a great job. Even when a previous brake fix started making strange sounds several months after the job, they took it back and fixed the issue for free. The gentleman we always deal with, Aurelio, is wonderful! He is very personable and after going there for a few years now has come to know us by name/car (debatable as to whether that's a good thing or not, haha). Auto repair as an industry isn't know for its outstanding customer service, repairs are frequently complex and not easily explained, yet person after person demands ridiculous customer service and detailed explanation. If you're looking for smiley happy people, who always explain everything as many times as you need until you 'get it,' you're in the wrong industry, and your expectations are way off mark. I cannot be more fortunate to live across the street from a reliable and HONEST mechanic. These guys are not only friendly and fast, but they definitely know what they're doing. We have taken our car here for simple services such as oil changes and brakes, as well as more complex jobs like alternator repair. Why honest? Three times, the battery went out in my car post replacement (no fault of the mechanic..car just sucks). These guys fixed it every time. They did their best to try and find the root of the problem, and best of all, they didn't charge the latter 2 times because of their determination to find the real problem. I have a fervent mistrust of mechanics, or really just anybody providing a service I need, but know nothing about. After using Augusta & Paulina 4 times, I can say they are in it for the long haul. They are unwaveringly honest, will fix anything they can, as affordably as they can, and pass on anything they don't think they would be the best at (most bodywork, for example). I got out for less than 50 bucks two of the times and, because of those experiences, had no issues paying the couple hundred for an alternator the third time. I came here a while ago to get my passenger side window put up and then followed to have the electrical issue that was preventing it from going up, fixed. I have been having problems with my car not starting. By the time someone comes to jump my car or by the time a tow truck gets to my car, my car starts.
