Dr Allen of Chicago Express Doctors is amazing! I needed medical attention at 3am for severe dizziness, horrible inner ear pain, and excessive worry due to me being very afraid of why I felt so ill. Dr Allen was very kind. He calmed me down, and assured me that based on my symptoms, I would be fine. After examining me, Dr Allen broke down his middle ear infection diagnosis in layman's terms. He then told me how he planned to treat the infection and the dizziness to have me back in good condition in no time. Let's just say that "Frank" needs to learn how to speak with people in need to make them at least feel good about considering this business. Needed immediate assistance and could not find any 24hr urgent care facility in the area. The guy, Frank, answers the phone like he's upset that you just woke him up from sleeping. You would think that if a business really wanted your business 24 hours a day, they would hire people and conduct training on how to 1st make an ailing customer feel at ease entering into a transaction with them but what do I know? I only work for Gohealth (look them up and you'll see why this is important). Price of $535 quoted for the doctor to come out to where we live. Also whatever the price may be for the medications suggested and taken. We think about it and then sign up. I provide my card information. I check my card transactions and they place a hold on my card for $800. WHAT???? I call back and "Frank" doesn't want to pick up. I call back again and Frank finally picks up and I asked where did this $800 charge come from. He says it's a hold and it will fall off. I said "well why didn't you tell me that you were holding anything?" He then tries to smooth things over comparing it to a hotel hold. Mind you, I've worked in the hospitality industry as well and was the one placing the holds on cards so you're preaching to the choir. He didn't understand that he should have informed me of the complete hold amount and that they were going to charge my card immediately of anything. He initially stated a final bill would come by email and that's it. Needless to say, I gave frank some advice about how to handle potential business, customers, and any personal issues he may be dealing with. "Frank" not being very apologetic calls back only to see if I still wanted a doctor. I said, "Yes, did I tell you otherwise?" Doctor gets there and only introduces himself as the doctor, not by name, no card with his name, only a brochure. He is the guy with the white coat on in the pictures on the website. He asks a few questions, did a quick examination, took blood pressure and let's just say that I feel a little got over on because the medicine given was for pain in joints, not for pain in the head. Needless to say, I'm happy I decided against the shot that was being pushed. That would have been more. The final price was the $535 plus $60 for medicine that was only taken once and did not help. Went to a doctor friend the next morning and got prescribed the right pain killer and antibiotic. I wish I could get my money back and just pay for the drive over because everything else seemed not worth it. Started Using This Service February 2012 thru Currently August 31, 2014 My first appointment with a doctor from CED was in the winter of 2012 when I had a severe respiratory infection. The doctor arrived within 30 minutes and had all the necessary equipment and medicine to give me a breathing treatment. He also started me on a 10 day course of antibiotics, which were injections. That was so wonderful!! I have a horrible time taking antibiotics by mouth without having horrendous side effects! He was there for at least an hour and never made either my husband or I feel like he was rushed. He called in a prescription to a 24 hour drug store so my husband could go and purchase a Nebulizer so that I could continue my treatments during the day. He provided us with the necessary medication to use in the Nebulizer, and came back every evening for 10 days to check to see how I was doing, and to give me my antibiotic injections. He was professional, caring and really listened to both my husband and myself. I have problems with chronic pain, so I have seen many, many doctors over the last 12 years, and he was by far the most knowledgeable about health care, and what he didn't know he would research and find out. He was/is also the kindest doctor I have ever met! I would recommend this service to anyone from infants through geratic, and everyone in between! They carry with them the necessary equipment and medications for any urgent care need, and if they feel you need to go to an Emergency Room, they will arrange for you to get there before they leave! What they don't carry with them, they can often bring right to you. I had an gall bladder ultrasound done in the convenience of my own home, in a very timely manner. If you need testing such as a CT Scan or MRI, that doesn't need to be done immediately, they will refer to a medical practice that does that, and again, the people there are amazing and kind. They also arrange for you to be picked up for your appointment, and then given a ride back again after the appointment. Member Comments: Since that initial appointment I have been extremely fortunate to be able to work with the doctor far beyond my first call to them. Even though they are primarily urgent care, they care enough to help with other health problems. After suffering from chronic pain for over 12 years, and being prescribed over 125 medications by different doctors during that time, I was never able to find relief. Until my Chicago Express Doctor took the time and extreme patience (I am not always the easiest of people to deal with!) to find a medication that relieved the pain completely! He also found a medication which has taken away my chronic nausea. With his help and encouragement, I have lost over 100 pounds in the last year -- no surgeries! Just a sensible and healthy eating plan that he helped me develop with foods that I like. He also helped me to start an exercise program that he monitored and gradually increased over time. I still see him on a regular basis, and I consider my Chicago Express Doctor to be my real doctor, I trust him without any reservations, and know that I can always rely on him for anything, including a consultation visit to just discuss how I am doing. He is an incredible combination of sternness (when I need it), and compassion. It is not an overstatement to say that all the changes in my health from the weight loss to the nutrition to the exercise has given me back my life. When I met him, I weighed 280 pounds and had to use a wheelchair. On Thanksgiving (2012) I was able to walk in my first 5K! My husband and I can once again take walks together, and I have friends who have cried when they see how healthy I am now. I will continue to work with "my" Chicago Express Doctor for years to come I am sure. For the the "urgent care" times when I have a migraine, and the continuing work on my pain and weight loss, and the consultations. I will close by saying if you have to fight your health insurance company to get reimbursed - fight them! We did, and we won!! And now we are fighting a new company, and we will win this time too. Because this doctor is worth fighting for -- he is absolutely the best doctor in Chicago!! I will even say (since I've been through it), if you want tips on dealing with your insurance company, call the office manager and ask her to give you my name and phone number, and I can share some "tips" my husband and I have learned about dealing with insurance companies to get the best medical care that Chicago has to offer. I am so, SO glad I found Chicago Express Doctors last night. I started vomiting and couldn't stop... it was absolutely awful. The thought of finding an urgent care and driving myself there was really daunting (I couldn't move without getting sick!), and so when I saw Chicago Express Doctors on Yelp, I called them immediately. The doctor came to my sublet in a little over an hour (and called on her way to let me know that traffic was holding her up), and brought everything she needed to get me back to normal. I remember very little beyond her putting the IV with meds in, but she was very kind, extremely efficient, and left meds that I might need to help get beyond the worst of it. I did end up needing some extra of the anti-vomiting meds, so I'm glad she left them. She even called today to check up on me and make sure I was doing ok! When I called, the phone was answered professionally, my information was recorded and I was given a time of the doctor's arrival. Dr. Alan arrived within 5 minutes of the scheduled time. Great Experience with Doctor. Called him in the middle of night for acute abdominal pain. He arrived in less then 30 minutes. Very courteous, caring and professional doctor. He understood and addressed the issue. I was dreading Northwestern emergency care visit since I heard wait time could be in hours. This service and doctor was godsend. I would highly recommend this service for urgent care specially during nocturnal hours. They are expensive then your typical doctor visit because they charge their fees upfront and let patient deal with filing insurance claims but IMO worth their charges. read more

I called Chicago Express doctors because I had a horrible cough for over a week and was having trouble breathing. I was either going to go to the hospital the next morning or if I went to another urgent care I knew they would just send me away again with nothing so I called and about 30 minutes later, a doctor was there checking me out! The doctor was kind, professional and speedy and gave me a Z-pack, cough syrup and a steroid shot. I started feeling better the next day and was SO thankful they were so quick to respond and not hesitant to help me. I was feeling miserable all day long. Early evening my chills got worse, sore muscles and 103f fever. Almost colapsing. I want you to know I never write reviews unless a company or service is FANTASTIC. I was not paid or asked to write this review at all. This is just one of those times. CED is an absolutely fantastic concierge medicine service. As a medical student myself I have been exposed to many health professionals / services and organizations. CED is at the top 1%. Their communication is immediate and friendly. They did not try to force a doctor on me - first taking a brief history and deciding together what was best for my illness. The Doctor arrived punctually and was very kind and thorough. The simple attention to care will have you feeling comforted immediately. I was diagnosed and prescribed what was required (cipro x bentyl) and 4 days later am feeling much better. The Doctor answered all of my questions, which as a medical student are lengthy. The solid communication with management and the Doctor has not dropped since my initial visit. Their pricing is fair, barely higher than an urgent care and much cheaper than the ER. They are also covered by travellers insurance (such as for myself) and most other insurance providers. When in need I will only be using CED. I highly advise you to do the same. read more

I used Chicago Express Doctors while on vacation in Chicago. I received excellent and prompt medical care. Dr. Allen was very knowledgeable, perceptive and kind. He quickly understood the problem and was able to provide the necessary medication on the spot. He enhanced my knowledge of the medications prescribed by my gp so that I am now better able to seek medication that will be more helpful to me. I highly recommend Dr. Allen. Please do not trust this company when they say that "everyone is reimbursed by their insurance." It is NOT true and I am out a lot of money because of it. I told them that I have Federal Employee Blue Cross Blue Shield and they said "no problem, you will be reimbursed." After submitting my claim to Blue Cross Blue Shield I was told that they cut ties wtih Chicago Express Doctors in 2011. I am so disappointed I was schemed into using them thinking I was going to be reimbursed. read more

Specifically, they told my they are considered a PPO provider; however, they failed to mention they are considered out of network. We were traveling in Chicago for my fathers memorial and my husband ended up hurting his back horribly and was basically unable to move. After waiting a few hours and realizing our only choice seemed to be to call an ambulance since there was no way I could move him myself, and then pay out the nose for emergency room care while out of town, I remembered that at home in Denver there is a service that does house calls in place of urgent care so I googled to see if I could find the same in Chicago. Luckily I found Chicago Express Doctors! I called and explained the situation and they were able to send a doctor to us in Inverness for an additional surcharge considering the distance. It was well worth it though. Dr. Allen came to the house we were renting and was able to give my husband some injections of steroids and pain killers. Within a few hours he was able to get upright on his own feet and then able to take our flight home the next day. I feel the billing was more than fair considering we didn't have to leave the house or pay for an ambulance. I would highly recommend this service for anyone who needs medical assistance in the Chicago area. read more

I had the flu and it was 5pm. Instead of going to an urgent care center and wait for hours, I called this service. I waited in the comfort of my home for medical service in my home. Dr Allen was wonderful. An emergency trained doctor who was very caring, listened and provided me with the exact medical care I needed. My only complaint was they told me the dr would be at my house in one hour from the call. It's 2.5 hours. So that was frustrating because I felt so poor. The physicians bring medicine you may need and call the next day to check in. I would use this service again. Saved me from going out in the cold and having to make a trip to the pharmacy. I trusted the doctor and would see him again. Note: insurance only offers for out of network, so could be pricey. The visit is $360 with no meds. And you have to pay and then seek reimbursement for your bill. read more

A few weekends ago I took a really bad fall while rollerblading and went to the emergency room to get my knee sewn up. It was early evening on a Saturday and the ER was busy with more urgent emergencies. After waiting for nearly three hours I googled urgent care and found Chicago Express Doctors. I called them and a Board Certified Emergency Medicine physician was at my place within 45 minutes. He cleaned and stitched up my knee, provided instructions on how to care for the wound and gave me a tetanus shot to boot. It was great to have this service done in the comfort of my own home. The only reason that I am giving 2 instead of 1 star for this service, is that that doctor involved actually did a good job. My sister fell ill with flu like symptoms after traveling to Chicago for the holidays. It got to the point where she needed medical treatment, and I found Chicago Express Doctors on the web, assured there were no scam reports on them, and arranged for them to come to the house. They quoted a price that my sister agreed to, and we gave the nod to charge her card. For that amount, which we were quoted. I say it like that, because, unfortunately, that's not exactly what happened. They decided to charge my sister approx another $120 on top of what was quoted because my family's house is on the far south side of the city. The travel fee was NOT mentioned in our conversation. When I called and spoke with Tina whom I assume is the office manager, (while doing her best to out talk me) she stated that the extra charge was due to the distance. She hadn't realized that it was going to be so far "outside of Chicago." My family house is IN Chicago, it's just on the far SW side of the city. Again, the travel fee was not mentioned, but if I gave her the address to get to the house, wouldn't she have noticed the distance as they mapped out the directions? That would have been a good time to mention the extra fee. Now what she DID mention, was that if drugs were needed, there would be an additional charge for that. Stupidly, I thought the doctor would discuss that with my sister, but no. He called the office manager, who called me after trying to run the card again unsuccessfully. See tacking on the extra fee ended up maxing out the card, and they couldn't get any more money out of it. Sad thing is, if the drug charge HAD been mentioned to my sister beforehand, she likely would have given them another card and it would have worked out. Since they didn't, she now has several bank fees in addition to everything else and they intend to keep after her for the drugs that they gave her. They refuse to refund the travel fee or apply that cost to anything else. Checking later, I notice that their site mentions a possible additional fee, however when I contacted their service, I'd never seen the site, nor did they mention it one way or another. I asked questions like the first time know nothing customer that I was, and it was not explained to me. All I can say is, if you use them: beware. It will cost you. Plenty. read more

My husband experienced severe lower back pain to the point where he could not sit up, move from one point to another let alone walk. Getting him to an ambulance would be impossible because we live on a 3rd floor, so I researched the web for a doctor who would do a house visit. I found Chicago Express Doctors and their testimonials assure you they provide excellent care and total reimbursement for medical expenses. IT IS ALL LIES!!! The doc doesnt arrive within an hour, we waited from 11am to 2:30 pm. We got charged for a weekend day, which was Sunday plus it being an afternoon that was another additional cost. I called every 30 minutes to see where the doctor was and whoever answered the phone assured me he was 15 minutes away, EVERY TIME I CALLED for over two hours!!! Once he got to our house he apologized he had an emergency visit, and I'm thinking to myself what are we then??? He examined my husband gave him a mixture of shots for pain and steroids for his back and that knocked him out. I asked the doctor if they will accept my insurance and he stated that once we send the bill we will definitely get reimbursed. Well, that turned out to be a lie! The very next day I checked my e-mail and I got charged $1, 350!!!!! I called my insurance and they told me to send it so they can take a look the the billing codes. Later on I get a statement from my insurance company stating that they will not cover penny from this visit. On top of all this, my husband started to experience shortness of breath and anxiety and ended up in emergency room. After showing my primary doctor what my husband was given, she said that those shots stay in the system for a week or two and may cause those side effects such as what he had experienced. My husband did his own reasearch and he would never have taken all of those shots togother at once if he knew then what he knows now. I know one thing, I will never use their services again. And if my husband experiences pain like that again he said he will suffer through it with over the counter painkillers. DO NOT GET FOOLED!!! read more

This service was amazing. I had to call them to attend to my really sick husband in the early hours of the morning and they were really good. Initial call to them was quick, easy and Dr Allen arrived within around one hour. Dr Allen seemed very thorough, practical and quickly diagnosed my husband with a bad case of pneumonia. He took his time to ensure my husband was comfortable and on his way to recovery before he left, and then he phoned to do some follow up for the next couple of days. As a manager of a luxury community, there are times we have residents that are either new to the area or are so busy that they can't find a doctor - especially when they are acutely ill. Many times they ask for a referral or recommendation. Everytime I tell them to call Chicago Express Doctors. One of the doctors actually lives in the community and recently I became so ill that I called them. Dr. Allen came down within minutes and assisted me. He has a calming nature and immediately puts you to ease. Time is money. If I had to go to the hospital, have unnecessary tests, gotten treatment, it would have cost me much more than what was quoted. There is true value in what they do and I truly appreciate all of Dr. Allen's assistance. The only reason I did not rate them a 5 - which they totally deserve - is that YELP filters reviews and tends to not post the true, honest and positive reviews.
