Wow! I cannot believe all of the fake review on here for this salon - people with 1 review ... c'mon we're not dumb. I loved this salon when Susan was there, she is absolutely amazing. I called to make an appointment and the woman who answered the phone rudely told me that Susan was no longer affiliated with her salon. I asked her if she could either pass on a message or let me know where she had gone and she said she had no idea. I found that quite odd. After months of searching I finally found Susan! (Private message me if you would like to know where she is). I found out that the salon would not release Susan's client information to her -- clients who only came to see her and who have been working with her for year! Bad business! I will NEVER set foot in this place again - the owner of the salon is not someone I would care to give my business to for obvious reasons. read more

I noticed it was located around the corner from my new house, and after reading reviews just knew I had to give it a try! I'm sooooo glad I did! I got in with Susan and treated myself to a partial and cut/style. It's obvious Susan and the other gals at Chicago Haircare know what they're doing, because I don't think my curly mane has ever looked so good! Oh winter doldrums, how I hate thee. I'm too broke to take a vacay to someplace warm and sunny. We know one doesn't DARE go in a tanning bed. With this Chicago January gloom and doom, how is this Golden State girl get, well, GOLDEN?! My roots were driving me batty. My hair was just kind of all over dull. I was starting to look like Shakira circa hips don't lie. Enter Raydine. I first found out about Chicago Hair Care through Pretty City's Pretty In Pink promotion during October. I had bought a few different $31 dollar treatments, and this was my last one - a partial highlight. Before heading in I read about Raydine in CHC's Yelp Reviews! The Queen of Cutting Curls? Sign me up! She was honest and amazing. I said I want blunt bangs, she said no. I still silently thank her for that call. I returned to get a roots touch up, and once again, Raydine did a great job. So good, I may just go around saying "Yes, It grew out of my head like this!" I can't wait to try a cut with the Queen! Next time! (Maybe during the Pretty City Love You promotion?) The salon is great. Calming, clean, and quiet. It's truly relaxing to get your hair done there, not just because you know you're in great hands. I left the salon strutting down Addison. After tons of research I found Raydine at Chicago Haircare. What a lifesaver! I knew I was going to like it from the start. When I called and explained that my hair was damaged and then I decided to do extensions for the summer but felt it was making it worse she told me to come in for a free consultation to look at my hair and THEN recommend what to do. I had been researching the Brazilian Keratin Treatment but was not sure if it was for me. She took me through the whole process and how it worked. Raydine is so good and so knowledgeable about what she does it is not just about getting your hair done but the CARE of your hair. Well to make a long store short, she did a fabulous job! I originally went to Chicago Haircare because it is right around the corner from my apartment. I have to drive all week, so the thought of getting in my car other than to commute leaves me breaking out in panic sweats. Anyway. I'm lucky that Chicago Haircare is great. I actually wish I had curly hair so I could try all these awesome treatments they are talking about. Oh well. They do well on straight hair too! A little bit about Shelly, my stylist. She is very laid back and does not talk your ear off or ask you tons of questions, or (even worse) talk about her problems. I work best with Shelly because long work days have eliminated numerous interests, which include keeping up with trends obsessively. I entrusted her to do an updated look she thought would work best for me. She did, and it turned out great! I've always been helped almost immediately, and beverages were offered to me as well. They're accomodating, but I should note that' it's small. Everyone there is usually busy, so don't expect them to trip all over themselves like you're at a really pricey salon. It's just a quality place to get your haircut without a lot of fuss. I normally go for more fuss, but that was when I had more time and spent money less responsibly. Note: Last time I went, I did have to wait about 15 minutes for my cut even after I showed up 15 minutes later than my appointment time as instructed by the receptionist since Shelly was running behind. Had a free consultation after looking into curly haired specialists when I moved to Chicago. Gave Raydine a try and became a loyal fan. And that took a lot, because at the time, I was wary of hair stylists in general since I had had way too many people in my lifetime that did not understand that cutting an inch off of curly hair could take me a year to grow back! She is a wealth of knowledge that taught me tips and tricks of how to maintain my tight locks that have improved my hair from frizz fest into strong and styled. Not too many stylists take the time to show you different everyday styles you can do with your hair, and that was really helpful. And through the last three years, I had taken my mom and mother in law when they came and visited so they could have someone who actually knew what they were doing. I had tried out Nick and Susan as stylists when Raydine was too busy, and they were great at it as well... but Raydine still has my undivided loyalty. She's the best at giving a trim but keeping as much length as possible. Her business is the sole reason I've been converted me from a haircut hater to just a highly skeptical haircuttee. Turns out I just needed someone who has first hand experience with curly hair and knows the ins and outs of what should and should not be done to it. Unfortunately, schooling has brought me down to Savannah and I will have to fit in an appointment if I get to visit Chicago in the future. I can't stop talking about Raydine, she's so fantastic! She's the only one in the salon, so it's always nice and quiet, but I never feel pressured to small talk if I don't want to. She is very dedicated to giving you a good cut and will take the time to discuss what will look good, why, and how she thinks she can improve your hair. When I asked her about getting bangs, she spent a significant amount of time looking at and playing with my hair to see if bangs would fall well on my face. She's never pushy with products, is really good about scheduling you when you want to be there (letting you know if its a Cub's game night so there won't be parking), and honest with how she thinks you should wear your hair. One time she even brought out books and magazines for how she thinks my hair would best look worn short - even though I don't plan on cutting my hair short for at least 6 months! I found Chicago HairCare on Yelp when I was looking for a new place to have a keratin smoothing treatment (as the salon I've gone to for years for this treatment priced me out big-time recently). I've gone places based on Yelp-reviews before and been disappointed; this is not one of those occasions. Raydine gave me the treatment one-on-one. No blaring music, no dashing off to help another customer, no taking cell phone calls during my appointment. It was delightfully old-school. She explained to me why she was using one product versus another based on my hair's texture. She explained why my hair routinely breaks in one specific place. She took the time to listen to what I was going for with the repeated keratin treatments. Then, she wouldn't accept a tip and asked me to wait a few days before leaving her a Yelp review in order to make sure the treatment gave me 100% the result I wanted (it did). As someone that pretty much hates everything, I have no complaints about Raydine's work. Nick is THE MAN for hair in Chicago. I went to Chicago Haircare in January for the first time, in part because I am on a tight budget and they had a great deal through pretty city for cut and highlights combo. The location was great for me as well, because it is not in a super congested part of town. Well, except for Cubs games:) The salon is kinda neighborhoody meets downtown. Relaxed but modern and everyone made me feel very welcome. Nick spent over 3 1/2 hours on my hair, listening to my needs and lifestyle. He was very honest with about maintenance expectations. His color was gorgeous and his cut was the best I have had for a long long time. Needless to say, I went back again in early March for a trim and more highlights. I have curly hair. I've spent years looking for someone who really understands how to cut it so it doesn't look heavy and so it grows out nicely. I haven't gone to the same stylist consecutively since I was in high school, and even then, I wasn't pleased with the accidental mullets I often received. This year I started going to Raydine at Chicago Haircare. My sister recommended me to go there after she googled "curly hair specialist + Chicago," and then received a wonderful haircut from Raydine. I was looking for a new style but I didn't know what. I told this to Raydine, trusting her because my sister said she was really amazing and knowledgeable. Raydine showed me a photo in a magazine of a model. She talked about how I had the prefect hair texture for that cut, and how it would really complement my face shape and my personal style (I have thick, black, square glasses, so I was hoping for a slightly funky/edgy look). I let Raydine give me curly hair bangs. What a risk. But I'm totally converted. I've had this haircut for about 7 months now. It suits me so much more than how I was wearing my hair before. I get compliments all the time. Raydine is an artist. She has an eye for what you didn't even know you needed. My search for the perfect stylist is over. I've gone back to Raydine about 4 times so far this year and I am always pleased with the end result. The search is over! My hair and I have a complicated history: blonde and wavy as a kid, brown and straight in adolescence, then suddenly wavy again in my mid-20s. So now, at 30 years old, I'm still not 100% on how to make my hair its best. Yesterday I took a HUGE step in the right direction when I met Raydine. I was truly fascinated to find that she understood my hair without me saying a word. Moreover, she was able to tell a lot about my overall health just from my scalp and strands. Why yes, I DO have an underactive thyroid! And I AM Vitamin D deficient! I feel compelled to update my review because my service with Raydine over the years is always awesome. What took it up a level for me is the new color she put on my hair. Prior to the color application, I've used other professional color but my hair always washes out to a brassy hue. Raydine offered to help me find a better color which has turned out unbelievably well. Weeks after receiving the new color, my hair is still the brunette hue I desire. I'm not sure if it's the brand of haircolor she used or the protein filler she applied beforehand, either way, her professional expertise has me happy with the results! I cannot get over what a great experience I had with CHC and Raydine. She is obviously an educator at heart, which was exactly what I needed since I wanted a keratin smoothing treatment, but wasn't sure which type would work best for my wavy, curly, thick hair. She let me know what to expect afterwards and gave me recommendations on which products would work best for making it last. All in all, the process took about 2.5 hours and never once did I feel bored or annoyed. This salon isn't going to knock your socks off by how cool or trendy it is, but the service I've received there has got me second-guessing my current salon since I never once felt like I was being moved through an assembly line- Raydine does it all! Not only did she do a fab job with my Pravana Perfection treatment, but it was substantially cheaper than other salons who do the same treatment- and she refuses tips! I had a YouSwoop for this place and got highlights here that turned out well. This place didn't really have a "wow" factor for me but my colorist was nice and the shampoo chairs recline to have a foot rest. One of the better shampoos I have had in my life. Vicky definitely gave me a good amount of foils for a partial. I do think some aspects of this place are overpriced so probably would not return without a coupon incentive. A haircut is $50 and toner for highlights is $25 (at most places it's $10). Definitely not a bad experience though. read more

I've been to CHC few times over the past few years and each time I have left very happy with the service I received. I initially went for the Keratin treatments which helped smoothen and straighten my curly, frizzy hair, so I have gone back for this a few times since 2010. I absolutely love it!! I recently decided to color my hair for the first time, and I knew I could trust Raydine. Her frankness and expertise make her consultative approach to styling very effective. She is not afraid to say "no, that's a bad idea, let's try this instead" or "yes, we can do that and I will make sure you're 100% happy with it." I experienced both of these in my most recent visit--done tactfully of course. I wanted something drastic, so I suggested auburn hair, but Raydine suggested I go a different route since it could be too hard to maintain with my darker roots. After discussing colors and showing her pictures, we decided on this ombre which turned out beautifully!! Raydine even made sure it was EXACTLY what I wanted by staying WAY past closing to take it a little bit darker (the first try was a bit too light for my taste and not red enough--just a miscommunication on the shade when we initially discussed it). The best part is that she did not complain or seem frustrated one bit that I wanted the color toned down after all that time we spent getting it to that first shade. I actually wasn't sure how I felt about it, but I didn't want to inconvenience her by having her redo anything. Raydine herself is actually the one who sensed I was not 100% happy yet, so she insisted that I show her the pictures again to figure out how to make it the right color. Raydine also knows how to respect the client's space which is something I love--if it's been a long day and you don't feel like making small talk, the quiet does not bother her at all, and she does not feel the need to fill the silence. And if you do feel like talking the whole time, then great, she's good at making conversation with you too. Overall, you can just sense the dedication to excellence that she has in her work and that easily translates to great customer service. After all the great reviews Raydine has gotten for her hair cuts, I might have to come back, but I actually went to Chicago Haircare for a wax after purchasing a YouSwoop deal. I'm constantly looking for the right balance between quality and low-costing waxes and so far, it's been pretty difficult - you either end up paying a fortune (not an option for a recent college grad), or you just have to deal with the fact that the person will take about 5 minutes to rip hair off your body and send you on your way. Raydine spent a good deal of time on me, making sure I got what I wanted and that everything was symmetrical, even obliging me to do a little more after she was done. I was really happy with her services, and then went to pay and was SHOCKED at how wonderfully reasonable the price was. I got really lucky with trying out this YouSwoop because it practically pays for my next two appointments there, but even without the deal, it was a GREAT price. I even tried to tip her and she declined, saying it wasn't necessary! She said if I was really happy, I could tell my friends and gave me a few business cards. After I got home and passed all those out, I decided to go on Yelp for the first time to pass this info along. Confession: This past December, I accidentally dyed my hair black. I was going for a dark chocolate brown and...yeah, I messed up. Fast forward to this past week with the addition of a lot of shampoos to fade it out and my hair was a dirty, boring looking medium dark brown. Granted, this means I was successful at fading out my "goth phase" since I normally have hair this lame-o color every winter. So I was itching for something to break up the boringness and this is where I came. I left with some bronzey colored highlights that, in my opinion, bridge the gap between classy and punky. In some lights, it's very subtle and in others, the color totally pops. I adore it. Nick D. did an amazing job on my hair and I'm looking forward to coming back and seeing what they can do with the mess of wavy frizz my hair turns into every summer when the humidity sets in. My only suggested improvement would be to work on the space a little. The ductwork on the ceiling is a little bit unattractive to fixate on during a shampoo/color toning and when you first walk in, there is no seating for while you wait, so I stood a little awkwardly. Luckily they schedule accurately and Nick was able to get me in right away so I didn't have to stand around for long. Tried to get a price range for a cut and partial highlight. The girl answering the phone said it was $50 for a hair cut and $80 for highlights. I said that I noticed on the website that if I had long hair the fees would be higher. I expressed to her that I had long hair. She repeated the same thing with 50/80. I then referenced the website. She said that the price would be higher. I asked again, "what is the price range?" She said that I could come in for a consultation. I DO NOT have time to go all over the city for a consultation. I told her I did not want a consultation, just a price range. She said that I could come in for a consultation. Obviously, they try to rope people in to get your business. I'm just not that stupid! I asked to talk to the manager and she said the manager was busy. I said I could wait. She said that she could take my number and have him call me back. I DECLINED. I asked her name 3 TIMES b4 she told me SHELLIE! I said thanks to Shellie and told her I would call the manager myself. She said she was not trying to be rude. To me, she doesn't need to try. And, if you are not being rude, then you would never be in a position to say that you are not trying to be rude! I get a call on MY WORK PHONE saying that it was the manager from Chicago Haircare. He said that I left my number with his receptionist and asked to be called back. No I didn't! I work for a government office and would NEVER give out my work number ESPECIALLY for a hair appointment! Then he said they have caller ID! Who does that?!?! Who calls someone back after they specifically said they did not want any phone calls!?!??! He said how can I help you. I said you can't. He continues to say that there policy is not to give a price, but to have you come in for a consultation. I said that Shellie was rude and I didn't take kindly to that. He said that she was not rude and heard the conversation on video. What? He heard the conversation on ... VIDEO?!?! Hmm... First of all, I don't have a monitor on my phone, so it definitely was NOT video. Second, you were recording my conversation?!?! Last time I checked, it was illegal to record someone's conversation without their knowledge. Needless to say, I will never step foot in this place. And I LOVE spending money on my hair! Summary: Raydine straightened my wavy hair before cutting it, it is now too short and uneven, and she dropped me as a client when I asked if she could fix it. I have long, thick wavy hair. I went to Raydine for a haircut and a bangs trim a few months later. To Raydine's credit, the cut on the length of my hair looked good. We spoke for a while about my hair's texture and how to do the bangs. I like them longer on the sides and texturized so that they are a little tousled and work with my natural wave. I explained what other hairdressers had done before that did and did not work with my bangs. I showed her a picture of myself with bangs that I liked. She assured me I was in good hands. The bangs looked fine in the salon but after washing and wearing them a few times, I noticed that they were a bit heavy and too short on the top and sides. During our next appointment, a bangs trim, I told her about the issue with the short pieces on the sides and that I had been growing them out while just trimming the middle of the bangs myself for a couple months. I also told her that my wedding was in a week. I asked for just a little trim and she said, "Yes, just a dusting." She pulled out a blow dryer and a round brush and heat-straightened my wavy bangs. I thought this was weird but trusted that she knew textured hair well enough that it would be ok. If you have wavy or curly hair at this point you well be thinking, "RUN." I should have. She initially pinned back the pieces I had been growing out and did nothing with them. I asked to see what everything looked like together and I saw that I had bangs and then two longer, blocky little chunks on the outside edges. I asked if she could blend them in just a little because my wedding was coming up and I wanted my hair to look good and not in a transitional state. Instead of lightly blending them in she fully cut of 1/2 inch and texturized them the same way that she had the first time so that there much shorter pieces in the top layers that fluffed up in an unflattering way, putting me back at square one. However, it looked basically fine in the salon because she had straightened out the hair beforehand so everything was laying flat anyway. I thought it was going to be ok. Because she had cut my wavy hair after straightening it, within an hour of leaving the salon and walking around in the elements, my hair's texture reappeared. My bangs shrunk up 1/4-1/2 in length and formed blocky little sections because of the curl. To be clear: I have had bangs for years. This isn't an issue of my hair texture being incompatible with bangs. When they are cut well I just air dry them and let them be tousled and it looks good. I have attached two photos: one of my bangs 3 days before the haircut when I had been trimming them myself for a while, and one just a few hours after Raydine cut my bangs. Again, my wedding was a week away. I was freaking out. I called Raydine and left a voicemail and sent an email listing the issues I was having. I went home and washed my hair and tried to heat style it but nothing could make my bangs look good. She called me back later that evening and that's where things really went downhill. She was defensive off the bat and said that she got my messages and had decided she could do nothing for me. She did not address any of the problems I had mentioned or express any regret or sympathy. I asked if I could just come in so she could see what was going on with my hair because maybe there was some way to make it less blocky/more even. She said that the worst thing to do right now is cut off more hair. I accepted this although I felt like she was not even trying to make it right. I did not understand why she wouldn't at least let me come in so that she could see my hair. I said that I came in with even bangs that I had been trimming myself and left with uneven bangs. She said, "I had to fix your bangs, you were cutting them too long on one side." Again, I will refer readers to the before and after photos to decide for themselves. I have had one really bad haircut before and when I called the hairdresser who did it she immediately apologized and told me to come back in. It turned out there wasn't much she could do to fix it but she was professional and at least tried to make amends. Raydine blamed me and blamed the humidity. I told Raydine that I wished she could at least see what my bangs were doing and that I was coming to her for help and had trusted her with my hair. She informed me that "Alexa is recording this conversation" and that "there has never been trust, not from the first appointment." Which, what??? Then she told me to find another hairdresser. This whole experience has left me in tears. Raydine, I'm sure you're going to respond this review with even more defensiveness. I encourage you to revisit the recording you made of our phone conversation and think very seriously about how you handled it. read more

My first experience was fine. I went in for a Keratin treatment and hair cut. The cost was $250. I wish I got the service that others say that did from Raydine because I left with a rather mediocre haircut and with greasy poker-straight hair. I figured this was just part of the Keratin treatment. The treatment wasn't life changing, but it was good and having received a 20% discount for a follow-up treatment, I figured it was worth doing again. 3 months later, I returned for a follow-up treatment. My sister called on my behalf (I live abroad) to make the appointment and to ask if it would be there was any possibility for a Sunday appointment (normally closed this day). She informed them that I was coming in from out of town and would only be in on Sunday and Monday. She was very nicely informed that they would be able to accommodate this request but a credit card would be required to hold the appointment. I called and left my credit card and confirmed the appointment. On Sunday, I arrived, and received the treatment. Upon arriving, I informed my stylist that I was really sorry, but had left a coupon for 20% off that was sent to me in the mail. Raydine came out and in a rather condescending manner asked "20% off for a Sunday service?" I said that I given that there was no fine print, I didn't know. She said she would not have brought in a stylist for a 20% off service and that I could reschedule. Having been made to feel guilty at this point, I thought we should just continue on with the service and I would pay full price. Susan was great. Very friendly and wouldn't you know...no greasy hair this time. Guess it wasn't the keratin after all. Far more recommended than Raydine. It was only after receiving the treatment that I was told that my total would come to $350. This is $100 more for the service despite the fact that this time I did not receive a hair cut. I expressed my surprise and the woman checking me out said that she could bring the total down to $300. Not knowing exactly what to do, I paid with credit card. I returned to the salon, after a few minutes of clearing my head to confront Raydine and the stylist about my confusion. I was explained the following: *when I received my treatment in December, the haircut was provided for free, so the actual treatment cost $250, not $200 as I was led to believe. Given that this was not explained to me at the time, that was difficult to understand. *Raydine justified that given that they opened on a Sunday and normally this warrants payment at one and a half the usual rate, this was reasonable. I explained that this would be reasonable if this was shared with me ahead of time. Had I understood this before hand, I would have not make the appointment and simply not had the procedure done. I was informed that she did not want to get into "penny pinching", but that this was a perfectly fair rate and now she ever regretted allowing it to happen in the first place. Visibly upset, I realized that this conversation was not going to be productive and I left having paid the price in full. It wasn't just what she was saying, it was how she was saying it. There wasn't an ounce of understanding that you can't just decide to charge people extra for services without telling them. Had I been informed of this I simply would have said "That's understandable, but I'm not going to make an appointment, I'll just have to wait until I'm here at a time when you're open during regular business hours" So, if you're going to go ahead and go anyway, do yourself a favor and book with anyone other than Raydine and confirm your costs ahead of time. You don't want to be surprised by the bill at the end. Trust me, there's a reason why those chairs aren't full and it's not because there aren't talented stylists there. There are, they're just overshadowed by poor management and business practices. read more

With all the great reviews and recommendations that Chicago Haircare knows how to work with curly hair, I was excited to go to Chicago Haircare! Amazingly, along with the great feedback on yelp, there was some fantastic offers available through "Pretty in the City" to promote women's heart health in February. I took advantage of the 'Love the Cut' and 'Love the Color' offers. The color special was available for highlights or single process (while most other salon offers were only for 'partial') and glaze (which is a HUGE benefit for my curly hair which can use all the help it can get!). The cut special included the haircut with massaging shampoo, conditioning treatment (while I recieved a mosturizing treatment on my hands--definitely relaxing!!), style, and....on top of ALL that...I was sent home with a bottle of moisturizing shampoo and conditioner that smells wonderful :) for the VERY reasonable price of $59 (per offer). After all that hard work, I recieved a blow-out to go home with a finished look without any extra charges!! All services at this salon provide a free consultation (as I observed each stylist providing this in an informative and non-pushy way, it does seem to be consistent for all employees). Susan took me as the first appointment and spent the morning providing a wonderful make-over with a smile. She took in consideration the photos I brought and provided recommendations (no bangs for curly hair!). The person working at the desk was friendly and took my coat when I came in. The salon was small enough to feel cozy in a family business kind of way. The decor and fun music--at an appropriate volume--unlike many other salons, are welcoming. All staff that I encountered asked if I needed anything, such as, coffee, tea, or water at appropriate intervals during my services. The owner, working on another client, remarked with a smile that I no longer was the same person that came in (due to the big changes I requested) and how she loved the makeover! Similarly to another reviewer, I recieved a HANDWRITTEN (unheard of!!) thank you note from Susan shortly after my appointment. In addition, the note included a discount for my next appointment...what a treat! I will definitely be back again and recommend it to others! I went to Raydine after hearing a rave review from a friend and seeing how great her curly hair looked. I decided to give her a try since my hair is curly as well. Raydine was nice and seemed knowledgeable on her products/haircare so I was excited to see what she would do with me hair. After explaining that I wanted my hair long and in layers, she suggested a different cutting technique and assured me that I would love it. I'm a very nervous person when it comes to cutting my hair so I was hesitant to trust her but decided she knew best so I went with it. MISTAKE! My hair was cut in layers that make me look like a triangle, they're too short and the longest layer is still too short! After crying over my haircut for a few days, I went back for her to try and fix my hair but nothing could be done and I walked out of the shop tearful. I don't know how to do my hair curly anymore and am desperately waiting for it grow back out :( read more

I came to Chicago Haircare through a youswoop (trying to save money). I booked an appointment with Raydine. I sat in the chair and instead of a conversation about the cut and color I want, Raydine instead analyzed my hair in a silence. She grabbed my hair, measuring, back combing, flipping. She was having a private conversation with my hair, and I wasn't invited. When the conversation turned to me, she told me EVERYTHING about my hair, with the knowledge fitting of Yoda. Subsequently, she asked me if I was ready to get my hair on the road to recovery, and set forth a new regiment to get my hair healthy. She is professional, full of knowledge, brutally honest and spot on. Raydine got a new client - instead of the next groupon or youswoop, I can't wait to go back to her. Raydine is SO fantastic. During my first appointment, she walked me through the curly hair basics for probably an hour, and her tips made a huge difference. I purchased a youswoop from them and was never even able to use it b/c they claimed I no-showed a prior appointment which is completely NOT TRUE. The tone/attitude that the receptionist had made me never want to experience this place in person anyway. Don't call them unless you want to deal with an obviously very unhappy/disgruntled employee. Luckily youswoop did give me a refund since they lied about me no-showing the appt. read more

Raydine Vigil is extremely volatile and bipolar... I had been going to her for several years and one day she just snapped and I don't know why... She was halfway through cutting my daughters hair when she abruptly stopped and asked us to leave, mind you during the duration of the haircut no one was speaking, it was absolute silence, she is extremely rude, but I was used to it, but halfway through my daughters hair cut she stopped and said that she was not going to finish and asked us to "get out now"... I was baffled, had no idea where it came from cause no one said anything to her... she stated in front of my daughter "you are breeding insecurities in your daughter" again i had no idea where that came from because my daughter asked if she had layered her hair like we asked and i simply stated, "no, but she thinned it and it looks nice"... at that moment she snapped... she has horrible customer service and treated us like absolute garbage... i cannot believe that this is the same woman that had been doing my hair for the last two years. I also recommended her to a friend and when my friend went to her she said she treated her bad as well and never returned. Th whole situation baffles me because i have always made my appointment and she has always accepted and provided the service, she was never super friendly, she always seemed fake, but i just brushed it off... Do not go to her, she is horrible and disrespectful...Even if she felt a certain way, why did she feel the need to behave this way in front of my 9 year old daughter... I went here because she got great reviews for curly hair and was inexpensive, but I was less than impressed.... The first time I went in, she cut it wet and I left and the cut was meh okay. The second time I went in, I told her it wasn't exactly what I wanted, so she cut it dry.... Except that she combed it out to cut it!!!! The cut didn't end up any better but the haircut hurt and was unpleseant because everyone knows not to brush out dry curly hair unless you're going as Simba at Halloween. Then she recommended a product for me to try, but I was on the fence so she said try it and if I didnt like it, I could return it. I tried it but I didn't like it, so I went back and tried to return it a few weeks later. I went during normal business hours and thought I could just pop in, boy was I wrong. When I went to return it, she had a client (reasonable since it was business hours), so she told me to wait a minute and she'd be right there to help me. After waiting at least 15 minutes, she was obviously still in the middle of a haircut, so I said, excuse me, could I just return this quickly? And she snapped back, no I'm clearly in the middle of someone else's appointment. (I did not think it was appropriate for me to wait another half hour for her to finish the other client when it would take 3 minutes to take my info. I would not have minded the pause if I had been that client.) So I asked could I leave my credit card info and she can refund it later and she said fine. She emailed me later and said she was sorry she was rude, but her back hurt. Not really much of an excuse. I added a star though because she gave me the brilliant idea of diffusing my hair upside down so I could get the volume and curls I wanted. Now I go to Summer at Sine Qua Non for double the price but double the quality. read more

Researched the brazilian blow dry intensively and this salon is one of the few that do it in Chicago. When I went in, the entire salon was empty and it was only the stylist and her assistant which was a bit scary. I had a dry, hacking cough and only till we were about to start the long, arduous treatment was I finally offered something to drink, after having been there for 15 minutes and non stop coughing. At first I was a bit scared regarding how my treatment would turn out, since I had never been to this salon, and there were no visible clients (an empty salon is always a red flag and never really seen especially since there were no other hairdressers in sight), but the brazilian blow dry turned out fantastically. My only issues were that I waited so long before being offered any refreshment (and I think I was only offered something to drink because I wouldn't stop coughing) and that they forgot to tell me what products I could use for my hair after since you can't use products with sodium anything and I forgot to ask since I was so distracted and tired. However I was finally able to wash my hair after 4 days of waiting and my hair turned out beautifully after air drying. Instead of a big, poofy & puffy mess, it is straight with body as promised. read more

This is my second attempt to write a review. Raydine is amazing! As she states this is a no judgement zone. I immediately felt at ease for my first appointment. We now are at appointment 2 and she knows her craft. She cut my very curly hair into a very short pixies aka crop haircut. Love it!
