This was a spontaneous date night out for us and our first time visiting ever, a friend recommend and I knew my significant other would enjoy magic. I knew there where a few tricks coming in but I didn't want to spoil anything (to him & you reading) so I let it be and to see his reaction was priceless. We went on a Monday evening, i wanted to check out the music, I really didn't know what to expect but once we actually sat down the music was already playing. So what they do is The musicians of the evening play a few songs then the main magician of the evening does a tricks and they kind of swap out through the night, and that makes it fun because in between you have time to talk/chat. While the musicians are playing they also come to your table and do tableside magic, so there's really no boring time at all. We arrived early to have some drinks in the lounge, the staff was incredibly nice, the magicians AJ was funny, we sat at the bar not knowing there would be bar side magic going on so needless to say I became the assistant through most of the tricks which fine by me because I was just having a good ol'time. We did not order food, we had dinner prior to arriving to the venue, they do have a selections of small bites, I wouldn't go there on an empty stomach but I do feel that if you wanted to have your meal there it's an option. My significant other did order the olives and he said they were very delicious. It was really entertaining night for us we had a really awesome experience and we will return to check out their other nights. I recommend if wanting to try something new and different and to have good cocktails. You can still have drinks at the bar even if you don't check out the show. read more

I wished this part was longer or more interactive with back to back magicians. we spent a lot of time just sitting around doing nothing. Here's another place where you should not judge the book by the cover. This speakeasy magic club is very thought out on the inside. I love the feeling as you enter, you are brought into a laundromat room and you think immediately you are in an escape room. A secret door magically open and you are brought into the world of magic. The hostess explains the rules and history, again your brought into the secret entrance into he magic lounge. You are brought to your seat and while waiting for the show, very talented magicians walk around and provide astounding magic tricks right in front of your eyes that you will be talking for days. It's so cool and they are entertaining. The show is good and there are so many more magic performances that can't be explained and we are in awe while rolling with laughter. They have a drink list with magical naming conventions. Their drink are good. While they have a nice appetizer menu as well, the portion are small. After the show, we had a chance to sit by the front bar as the magic continues with another talented magician that simply captivates us. It was a very nice night. read more

We visited to see the Signature Show. Keep in mind that the entrance isn't super obvious -- I only found it because there was a bunch of magic posters outside. You are guided into the venue and seated at your table. The actual show doesn't start for about 30 minutes. During this time, you can order drinks and food, while magicians perform close-up magic from table to table. The actual show was really fun, and we had a couple of cocktails, including the "How Houdini Died", which might be one of the best cocktails I've ever had. They even used clear ice for that drink, so it's pretty clear that they know what they're doing! I highly recommend that drink. After the show, you can exit to a bar area, where you can watch another magician perform some great routines. read more

The space is intimate and cute! We didn't wait long and were able to get good seats by going early. While we waited magicians came to our table to perform card tricks while we waited for the main show to start. My group ended up feeling as though the table tricks were better than the main act. The main act wasn't very invigorating, but maybe I'm just not a magic person? It was almost all card tricks and anticlimactic. The service was also mediocre, it was kinda tough to get a refill. This place is amazing. From the magical laundromat entry to the bar in the lobby with table magic to the theater itself, this place is top notch. The magicians are truly talented and you will be blown away by their table tricks prior to the main show. The main show itself has an "opener" and a "headliner" that seems to rotate regularly among their staff of magicians. They present some pretty amazing magic tricks and had the crowd laughing and ooh-ing and ahh-ing the entire time. The tables in the theater are small and round - really only fit for 2 guests and is quite a squeeze with 4. Definitely intended for drinks and one plate of appetizer - not a full dinner. Fantastic, intimate magic show experience. We got here a little earlier than showtime, and a magician came by to do a magic trick with our 4 top table. It really allowed us to settle in and start enjoying the show quickly. He was also extremely engaging with all of us, getting to know our names--and not forgetting them either. During the actual show, we saw a couple of magicians do a variety of card and visual tricks, with an intermission in between. This isn't just magic, but rather some improv blended in by the performers. Just beware that if you pick front row seats, you may be solicited for public participation...for us, one of our friends was called on for a couple of segments to either go up on stage or to be part of a sequential trick. I prefer going to one of their shows with less card tricks since it becomes mentally tiring, but that's just my preference. Waiters will come by and take your orders for food and drinks and again during intermission. My only complaint is that I heard during some quiet parts of the show a lot of laughter and sound from what I think was the bar. I think they should sound proof better so it doesn't take away from the live performance. There is no bad seat in the house...they set it up intimately and it's not too crowded. I won't give too much to say other than it's a great time, great performers, great drinks and a big up job engaging with the crowd! I was taken here a few months back and before the performance began, Magicians maneuvered about the venue performing magic before us on lookers. Once that 1/2 hour portion was completed, the show began with 3 magicians that performed various magic tricks and a majority of them were very entertaining! We had some drinks and an order of sliders while we shared a table with 2 other folks. After the main show it was off to the private performance in the 654 Club which seats about 20-25 people. The staff were very courteous and the waitstaff were prompt in coming back with drinks/food. Overall, My suggestion is to have dinner ahead of time and get ready to have fun with a few hours of magic!! read more

I surprised my boyfriend with tickets to a show this past Tuesday. It's a nice intimate setting, dark, sexy, & mysterious. I loved the vibe and how the entrance is hidden in plain sight. The food was great and the drinks were even better. The only complaint I had was the seating was a little disappointing, granted we got there a little late. I would recommend the seating on the main level or the level that's elevated above the main floor. I have to say when we first got there my boyfriend thought that I literally was taking him to the worlds smallest laundromat! The look on his face when the secret entrance opened was, priceless. We went to the magic lounge after dinner on date night to grab a round of drinks. We had to kill some time at another bar because they were at capacity when we got there around 9:30pm on a Saturday night, but then were able to get in just fine once the 10pm show started and others left the bar. We didn't see a show but loved that there was a guy doing close-up magic at the bar. Big plus that you can tip him via Venmo if you don't have cash. I got the Abracadabra, which was too sweet for me, but the drink menu has a variety of signature cocktails, beer, wine, etc. This is a fun place to go if you want something a little different that's not directly in or near the Loop - I definitely think I'll be going back for a show sometime soon. read more

This is quickly becoming one of my favorite bars. My husband and I bought tickets to a show and enjoyed magic at the bar while we waited. We later found out that you can go to the bar and watch magic even without tickets. So we have since been back to do that as well! We bought tickets in the mezzanine and really enjoyed the show. Before it starts there is closeup magic done at lots of tables and the magicians do a great job of getting around to lots of people so everyone sees at least one closeup magic show at their table while they wait. In the mezzanine you also get a closeup magic show for just the people who bought tickets up there. We both really enjoyed our date and will buy tickets to another show again too. read more

All I can say is "wow." We went to the Chicago Magic Lounge to celebrate my sister's engagement based upon recommendations by others. This place exceeded our expectations by a tenfold. The entrance itself is truly magical. Like a speakeasy, it is a completely unassuming building on the outside with a beautiful and intimate interior. I was blown away by how friendly and accommodating the staff was. When it came to the show itself, each magician left us completely speechless. From card tricks to feats of mind-reading, each magician had their own style, humor, and mastery of their craft. Incredible! I was super excited when I got tickets to last night"s show. I saw there were only four tickets to the mezzanine level and I picked them up right away. I've been to the previous location on Broadway and I thought the experience was amazing. I loved the idea of roaming magicians coming to our tables and perform up close magic. We got to the entrance and was immediately impressed. The hidden door ways and contraptions really added to the excitement. Well my group stopped at the bar and saw the bartender perform. Everyone was amazed and couldn't wait to get to our seats. We were led through the doors and led to the top deck where our seats were. I kept telling my group this is going to be an awesome night. Unfortunately, this is where the excitement faded. The two hour session was divided into three acts. First hour was where magicians where roaming to show patrons tricks. For the entire hour, we interacted with one magician for about 3minutes. The rest of the time we were thinking when will the magician come up to see us? We kept looking from above at the distant guests who were laughing as sponge balls and coins appearing/disappearing. We had to experience magic from a distance. It seemed the magicians were really focused on the patrons on the ground floor and the seats up top were neglected. After about an hour, the main show started. The first act was really amazing. It was my second time seeing Gozner perform and I was as amazed the second time around. The final act with Joe Diamond was less exciting. Perhaps it was the distant from the stage but I felt that the performance lacked the connection with the entire audience. He was reading the minds/dreams of other patrons. While sitting at the top floor were unable to see the reactions from the crowd and we felt disconnected from the show. Secondly, only the audience members who participated in the tricks would know if the trick worked or not. Others in the audience had to take the participants word for it that the trick went according to plan or not. The last 30 minutes were not engaging at all. Of the two hour show, my group only enjoyed the 30minute section with Gozner. We saw one magician during the first hour and the last 30minutes fell flat. My suggestions for improvement would be to also make it a priority to interact with customers sitting on the mezzanine. The mezzanine is the furthest away from the stage but tickets are the most expensive, priced at $55 each. My group was disappointed and I couldn't help but feel a tricked as we left the show for an evening. read more

I had such a fun time here, I plan to be back for sure! Its fun that you get to walk in through a laundromat and it leads to the lounge. They have a diverse array of classic cocktails which we all enjoyed. While waiting in the bar area(which gets quite crowded) there is also a magician doing some tricks. The decor is classy and has just the right flare for a magic spot. When its time for the show you are let in and entertained by magicians who come right to your table. I was impressed with every trick! We were a group of 3 and so a stranger joined us but he was super cool and treated us to drinks. Food was awesome too, I recommend the scallops. The actual show was a blast and my friend went on stage and was also amazed. Afterwards we went to the after show and that also knocked our socks off! We need more places like this in Chicago! Some wholesome fun with cocktails on the side. My husband loves magic and I jumped at the chance to take him here as soon as it opened. I was surprised that so many tickets had already been sold, but I guess this is the new, cool place in town. Easy to buy online with descriptions of the shows on the website. Nice guy outside checking IDs, super cool laundromat entrance, and then a very pretty bar area. I docked one star because it was too small to really do anything. I couldn't see the magic at the bar, I couldn't sit, and I couldn't stand because I was in everyone's way. I get that it's super popular and don't really have a solution to offer, but it wasn't comfortable for waiting so next time I'd just show up when my show starts. The other reason I docked a star is because I paid for the mezzanine seats which were $20 more than the main floor. We were very high up (not what I thought a mezzanine would be) and the entire show I could hear the front bar. That was super distracting from the main performances! I wish I had gotten cheaper tickets for a better view and less distractions. The magic itself was super cool. Loved the guys walking around before the show started. The close up magic is always my favorite. Not super into mentalism as the main act, but it was still entertaining! We'll definitely go again and hopefully have a better view and pay less. read more

I did a yelp search and literally typed "anniversary ideas" and the Magic Lounge popped up as a suggestion, ranking in at #2. I was there on a Monday night for Music and Magic. The place was packed. The jazz band was great! The drinks were better. The food was yummy. The venue itself is a hidden little secret that gave me speakeasy vibe and most important the magicians blew my mind!!! I can go on and on and rave about the location, which as previously mentioned is a combination of a speakeasy meets cabaret. Living in the neighborhood we've seen this former eyesore of a building in progress for quite some time, and were pretty excited when we got the news that it had just opened. We're not first in line people by any means, but as luck would have it, an impromptu date night turned into two free tickets for their 2nd night. Score! This place is fantastic. The entrance is really cool - a secret entrance in the front (don't wanna give too much away!), a bar to the left, a little library to the right. At the bar they sling drinks all the while performing tricks. The bar space itself is beautiful and has a warm, intimate type feel... when it's not really busy, of course! A definite post-dinner date or chill night spot, for sure. In the back there is a theatre with graduated seating, various seats and tables, and a performance stage. It's quite beautiful. I seriously cannot believe that this old building has been transformed into something just so breathtaking. Waiters and waitresses move through the crowd quickly serving up drinks and bites. Magicians walk through and perform some quick card tricks at your table. It's very interactive and a great pre-show for the main event. Which brings me to the main event. We had the privilege of seeing two phenomenal... gosh, that doesn't even describe it... amazing, engaging, all sorts of awesome magicians perform several tricks. They told jokes, interacted with the crowd, got people on their feet, and kept us all laughing, loving, in awe... all sorts of everything great. The tricks were fresh, fun, mind-boggling... and one of the magicians is a dead ringer for Ryan Philippe. I am still trying to figure out how the first magician got a marked-up $100 bill in the middle of a lemon. There are so many questions I have after last night's performance. MIND. BLOWN. Absolutely blew me away. Wasn't sure what to expect but bought these tickets for opening weekend because it looked very unique. There are 3 types of tickets - front bar, show, and the last show in the back room for maybe 15 people (very intimate). We purchased the show tickets in the cabaret room. When you enter, you go through a laundromat and step into the first bar room where they perform magic at the bar. It's basically a standing room unless you happen to grab a seat. We were directed to the library since we had tickets to the show. From there we had to wait to enter the other room (had no idea where). A gentleman explained the library books then pointed towards the fireplace that began to slide open... We had great seats! Second row, $35 a ticket. But honestly from anywhere you can see the stage and all the tables had a magician that came to your table. Since I'm pregnant, I wanted table service so I would have a seat. We had 3 magicians to our table - all of which had such a unique presence. They were courteous, introduced themselves, and proceeded to surprise us with their card tricks! It really made me feel like a kid again. We ordered cocktails at the table and a side of fries (they don't have any big dishes, just small plates). The prices again weren't bad. We were in Andersonville and parking wasn't terrible to find, plus the spot we found was free! After magic at the table for about 20 minutes (sort of a cocktail hour), there were 2 magicians at the main stage introduced by a host who also does magic on Sundays for kids (yes, kid friendly but only Sundays!). They change the line up every week and open all week! The show was so much fun. I love how unique this was - not just a lounge to drink but you get a show plus table service. How awesome is that? Can't wait to come back here with friends and also check out the mysterious late night show in room 654. read more

A fantastic experience! We really enjoyed the whole set up of this lounge. Tip: you don't have to buy a ticket to get in. You can just hang out at the bar and get a specialty cocktail and watch some up close (and funny) magic. I will say that it can get really congested and I do wish there was more space dedicated to the bar space. My friend and I ended up buying two mezzanine tickets for the show at $55 each. This included a table, close intimate magic tricks, and two performances. It was a highly entertaining experience and we were both amazed and laughing the entire time! We also loved our (fairly priced) drinks-the abracadabra, the sleight of hand, and the how Houdini died. If you just want to snack, definitely get the french fries. I also enjoyed the pork belly sliders. I think it would be great if tables included one drink in the ticket-$55 was a bit steep for what we wanted to pay tonight so I'm not sure will be coming back right away. Yes, it lives up to the hype. Magic is making a comeback. This lounge has a bar and two auditoriums. There is magic during all aspects of a visit here, even while waiting for others to be seated. Though we did not see one of their main shows, the "mini-show" in the bar area was extremely entertaining. Alright, I feel like this post deserved an update due to the AMAZING customer service of Joe and the staff at Chicago Magic Lounge. Upon hearing our experience was less than perfect, Joe reached out to see what he could do to change that. My boyfriend and I decided to go back to the show last Friday, and had a fantastic experience. We did go to the 7:30 show rather than the 10:30 show, which probably helped the crowd not be too rowdy. The show was fantastic, and provided a much better overall experience than the last time. I have sent multiple people to the Magic Lounge now, and I will continue to do so. What a fun night, and what a great addition to the neighborhood. After settling in to our comfy area on the main floor, we were treated to talented magicians, an attentive staff, and reasonably priced food and drinks. My first visit far exceed my expectations, and I can't wait to return. My only constructive comment was that the show was a bit shorter than I expected. The tickets stated 10:00 - 12:00 if I recall, and the show actually started well after 10 and wrapped up well before 12:00. Was still a very high value, but I wanted more. read more
