This is an adorable place with delicious, fresh pho! It's located in a small little strip mall but don't let that deter you from having a delicious dinner. The combo pho is generously portioned with lots of meats, noodles, and an addictive broth. Hubs and the kids devour their bowls and then whine about how full they are - LOL! There's a lot so I end up getting at least 2 meals from an order. I love their crab Rangoon too! The wrapper is light, thin, and crispy with a good amount of filling. It's so well balanced. We end up getting 2 orders because it's that good. The fresh spring rolls are very good as well. They have 2 whole shrimps in each roll unlike most places where they split a shrimp in half per roll. Pho Son Ha splits 2 shrimps for each roll meaning an order has 4 pieces of shrimp. The inside has seating, but it's a cozy place. There are probably 8 tables and they're close to each other, but not invasive or uncomfortable. This is a family owned business and the family all pitches in to take orders, serve, clean tables, and handle take outs. Everyone is so gracious and grateful! It's hard to find great Pho out by the Arlington Heights, Palatine area, so Im glad I found this place. Been going here for a year now, and there's a reason I keep going back. First of all, its the pho. I usually get the number 8 Pho Son Ha rice noodle soup. It has the brisket, meatballs, sliced steak all in one bowl. The soup usually doesn't need it, but its nice we get Hoisin and Sriracha at our table to customize our own soups. Whenever Im not feeling the soup, I'll get the rice dish with Pork Chop, Vietnamese Ham and Sausage. You can also never go wrong with their Spring Rolls. The portion sizes are big too which is a plus for them. The service is excellent too. Whether its the waiters or the owner, they take care of you. I finally found my favorite Pho restaurant!!! My husband calls me a Pho connoisseur. Yes, I need to have Pho weekly if not more often. Pho Son Ha makes a perfect bowl of Pho. The broth is perfect to taste. The meat is cut at perfect size, not too big that makes it hard to chew. Beansprouts and basil are fresh. As a bonus, we got cilantro on the veggie plate too. What makes Pho Son Ha stand out from other Pho is the condiments on the table. This includes freshly made fried garlic oil, chili oil, Sriracha, Hoisen sauce, fishsauce, and sugar. We came here for a quick, inexpensive dinner. The spring rolls were fresh and the Pho was authentic. I like to add chili oil, cilantro, bean sprouts, jalapeños to my bowl. My date adds a variety of other greens and accessories. Everything we could want came to the table. This little place has a special place in my heart. My partner and I are regulars that visit at least once a week. The Pad Thai is unlike any other. I'm not sure what their secret ingredient is but it has a very unique and delicious taste. Pho is super rich in flavor. The broth and meats/noodles have a perfect ratio. A great little Vietnamese restaurant in the suburbs. The owner and her staff are super friendly and really make you feel very welcome. The pho was phenomenal--I ordered the Pho Tai Vien (eye round steak slices and meatballs). They cut the meatball into quarters, which makes it easier to eat. The portions were pretty good and the broth was nice. My mom ordered the pork chop rice and the meat was so delicious! The location can be a little bit difficult to find. Pho Son Ha is on the right side of the strip mall and has a pretty sizable parking lot. This is a really great alternative to driving into the city for Vietnamese food. read more

This tiny storefront specializes in Vietnamese Pho, but also has a small selection of entrees and some Thai basics. Pho comes in 2 sizes, which isn't common, with the Large a substantial portion for about $2 more than a small. We had the #11 Pho Tai Bo Vien, and the #81 Pho Seafood. Both were delicious, though the #11 was a bit bland. There are several hot condiments you can add as well as the traditional fresh add-ins. These allow for considerable customization. Be careful with the fresh jalapenos, they are hot. Service is very friendly and efficient. On our visit they actually checked Vax status, which made us very comfortable with the close seating. read more

A small Vietnamese restaurant tucked away in a strip mall with dim lighting and a dated looking interior. However, don't let the look decieve you as the food here is similiar in quality to larger, better known competitors. I went here on opening day,which was very busy. Surprisingly, they still managed to provide friendly service and seat patrons / clear tables at a reasonable speed. I would have preferred a larger menu, but given the size of the restaurant (and kitchen), it's understandable why they'd stick to the main items you'd expect from a Vietnamese restaurant. The prices are reasonable, portion sizes standard, and food in general isn't too oily or salty. Here were my thoughts on some items: Egg roll: The pork within provides a nice meaty flavor, stuffed with noodles, mushrooms, and other various items with minimal vegetables. Tasty and filling. Vietnamese Coffee: Robust and flavorful. Don't be fooled by the smaller quantity of coffee as the flavor is definitely intense. Com Tam Son Ha: Pork chop was tender, fatty, and flavorful with a nice char. Good thickness instead of the thin cut you'll find at most places. The rice is very nice and fluffy and great when you mix it with the fried egg. Pho Son Ha: An alright pho. Broth is sweet and light, would've preferred a stronger meat flavor however. Noodles were plentiful but lacked a nice bouncy texture. The meats were okay, would've preferred a fattier cut (ribeye instead of eye round steak) for the rare beef but the tendon was prepared nicely. Comes with plenty of bean sprouts, jalapenos, lime, and basil. Shrimp fried rice: Comes with split pieces of larger shrimp. The fried rice itself is surprising as it's very fluffy instead of dry. The egg flavor really comes out and isn't masked by soy sauce. Has a good amount of wok hay / umami and is generally a nice aromatic dish. Massaman Curry: Very spicy compared to most other local Thai places although not really that spicy if compared to other types of curry. Rich flavorful broth with a strong coconut and onion flavor. The roasted peanuts and potato provide a nice texture contrast here and the chicken was not overcooked (my biggest complaint at most thai restaurants). Bún Tht Nng: Noodles are nice and bouncy, but the dish itself is pretty plain (mostly noodles, lettuce, and some meat) -- would've liked to see some additional elements to provide variety. Overall, small restaurant but surprisingly the dishes were well planned and executed. read more

While I wasn't able to eat in, the inside was very homey and gave good vibes. The pho was so good and there were lots of veggies and noodles. I could tell this place is a popular gem by how crowded the small space got on a Friday night. Luckily, my parents and I came in right before the rush but consequently had to wait a bit before placing our orders. They are definitely short-staffed for the popularity here, but great food nonetheless. I had the original pho bowl and the fried chicken wings. The chicken wings were freshly made, so they took a little longer to come out. But these were so worth it- one of the best fried chicken dishes I've had in the suburbs. HUGE portions, I especially love how the cook cuts the meatballs in my pho (the little things), and service is always so prompt and accurate. Wanted to try a new place and wanted Vietnamese food. This place fit the bill. They have really only one vegetarian dish that I saw but it was good. A veggie pho with tasty veggie broth and the typical pho fixings. Not so typical was the cauliflower in it. I liked that add. They were sadly out of tofu but I was able to get an egg instead which complemented the pho well. They also have lots of other pho's and rice and noodle dishes for non vegetarians. My dad got a rice dish with three different meats and some vegetables. He said it was good. I also got a Thai tea and they didn't have originally vegetarian spring rolls but made some for us. The spring rolls were just so-so but the peanut sauce was good and the meals were good. I would give it 4 stars if it had more vegetarian options but what they had was tasty and the employees seemed nice and accommodating. If they add more vegetarian options I'd be sold. Certainly though if I'm in the mood for vegetarian pho I will get it again! read more

Love this little family owned restaurant!! One feels welcome from moment you walk in the door. The owners are such sweet people, always happy to see you. Everything on the menu is delicious. The spring rolls are the absolute BEST. The ingredients are fresh and they are as beautiful as the are delicious. The peanut sauce for dipping the mind blowing! YUM!
