After getting three bids, Ryan, at Chicagoland, was very professional, low pressure and had the lowest bid. Their demo, concrete, builders, and clean up crews were professional and efficient. After checking out some of the other companies in this business I decided upon these guys. My big complaint...the garage was completed in December 2018 and it leaks ! I spent some big $$$ to have the old garage demo'd, new pad poured and new garage built. Norm the salesman assured me the garage would be covered and sided with vinyl. The doors, windows and gable however were not "capped" but Norm told me I could have it done for an additional $1,000. I would of gladly paid up front this amount if given the option. Since I discovered the leaks I have emailed photos of the problem....I have made 3 - 4 calls to their office, I have mailed a letter too but for some reason I never got a response. Too busy I guess. This is the main reason I gave them 1 star and if they had responded I would of maybe given them 3 stars. Also the deadbolt on the door does not work as it wasn't lined up. Some of the new vinyl siding is also cracking. I think all these garage companies are similar but this is 1 to stay away from. read more

Do not honor any warranty issues. Garage was built November, 2022. P.S. Their carpenter is a liar. Said he left my second key to the side service door for me. Duane and Angela Cook reiterated this. Did not believe me that I received 1 key. 3 weeks ago I was doing some landscaping on dirt in back of garage. Found the key in the dirt. It's taken me a long time to muster up the guts to review this company. Now that the anger and disappointment has subsided, I can now get out my thoughts clearly. We went with these guys because our handyman was tight with one of the salesman and were highly recommended from him. No other reason. We should've found someone else. Always go with your gut when someone rubs you the wrong way. We left on our honeymoon during the first week of October for 10 days in 2017. We were told the garage/driveway would be started the day we returned. It didn't get started until mid November, which by this time, the weather has changed, it's colder, wetter, etc. We started to ask questions and out of haste I guess they started building. Apparently, the salesman (Mike) was waiting for his cut of the sale, so our job just sat on a desk until they couldn't make up any more excuses as to why the huge delay of our build. Th garage was up in 2 days. The driveway was done in 2 days, but it looked terrible. No attention to detail. The workers were likely upset having to work in the colder conditions. Totally rushed. The owner couldn't care less. Flash forward 2 years later and the driveway is already crumbling. I've posted photos of the shit job so it's available for everyone to see. We even called the owner multiple times to see about fixing it or putting some sort of protective layer over it to protect from the elements. They finally came and did that almost 7 months after it was finished and now it's worse than ever. The owner (Duane) doesn't return phone calls, their salesman are money hungry and incompetent and I wouldn't recommend these guys to my worst enemy. Unless of course you like the runaround, being ignored or insanely crappy work. And to think these guys were a concrete company before they got into the garage business!! Horrible. Take the time and do your homework. Don't rely on the recommendations of others. Sometimes it's in your best interest not to. read more

We had a few hiccups on scheduling and it took longer than I originally anticipated but overall I am really happy and impressed with this team! Pricing was reasonable compared to other estimates. Bob and Sandra are a pleasure to work with! My only advice would be to anticipate the needs of your customer and communicate throughout the project when agreed timelines cannot be met, no matter if due to inclement weather. read more

My hubby and I are new to home construction. We heard a lot of horror stories from other people. So, I can't say that we were super excited about this home project of getting the driveway dig up and concrete laid as well as building of a new garage. However, we did it, thanks to Chicagoland Garage Builders, and we survived! One of the reasons we decided to go with CGB is because it's all they do...garages and the build them all over Chicagoland. Also, they have their own concrete company that it was seamless to get our driveway done through them. The salesman Bob was lovely. He wasn't forceful or pushy. However, I will say from what he said or the way we interpreted what he said we thought the timeline would be MUCH tighter. It was a source of annoyance. Not the end of the world. He was very clear on the payment schedule and what was expected. He was very helpful with getting the new driveway and garage to the codes of the city, which are confusing and misleading. Every crew that came out was nice and worked hard. They didn't need a lot from us at all. They did their thing and were respectful. It was really hard for my hubby and I to get someone from the office to call us back when we ran into a misunderstanding about something. It was frustrating because we called three times before we could get answers or someone to answer us. We know they are busy busy busy. But we were customers, paying promptly, and should not have had to call 3 separate times. The only other thing was that when they laid the concrete they laid it so our fence gate wouldn't close. So they did fix it. It closes now. But it's a bit ghetto looking. Kind of a bummer. All in all we are very pleased with the product and the service. Just a little communication snaffu mid project. Everything went well until the electrician came. It was a bait and switch. Norm told us to write a check for $600 directly to the electrician but when the electrician showed up and had already started work, he said that was for only 32 feet of conduit. In total it was about double the quoted price. He asked to be paid in cash. The electrician was a fast talker. I should have asked him to leave the minute the price was different than quoted but hadn't expected the need to negotiate. They also left a mess. I showed them where the drain pipe for the gutter runoff was underground and they said they would hand dig around there to find it. They changed their mind when I wasn't there and ripped through with the digger, severing the drain pipe. They commented "you wouldn't believe how many drain lines we go through." Actually I could. I spent half a day fixing the drain line and reburying it. Anything they dug up, like an old buried chain link fence post and bricks in the garden, they just left strewn about. The hook up 6 garages a day so they are in, leave a mess and are out. The issue is that CGB outsources the electrical, so you don't know who you're going to get. I recommend asking specifically who will do the work, and if someone else shows up, kick them out. I would have used my own electrician. I called CGB and they felt I was overcharged but I never heard back to resolve it. The total build time was about a month to start concrete, a month before carpentry started, 1.5 weeks for the electrician to come. I'm happy with the build quality of the garage, I just wish I didn't have to spend time fixing it up and didn't have to deal with that electrician. read more

We chose Chicagoland garage builders after getting estimates from two other well-known Chicago garage builders. Their prices were very competitive and we enjoyed working with our sales rep. This was a vast undertaking, as we had to deal with zoning variations for the exact garage that we wanted done to our specs. It definitely lengthened the process, and at times we felt like we were left on our own a bit too much. But in the end when the work began... From demolition to concrete pouring and eventual garage construction... These guys did an amazing job. It is funny, as this company had good customer service until you leave a review. Shortly after the last check was turned over the problem's began. While it was a harsh winter, the garage started to form leaks in multiple area's. I called CGB multiple times and kept getting the "we will call you back routine." After 3 months of this I personally took a day off of work and drove out there. When I was there I also got the " Well no one is here to help you.." About a month after this one representative by the name of "Shorty" came and he literally shrugged his shoulder's and said, "I don't know how to fix it" He told me it was because of the large amounts of snow we had. Which was a scapegoat answer because I had been pulling the snow off the roof all year and I had been removing all snow from the immediate perimeter of the garage, therefore any and all melting snow was not piled up against the garage. Additionally the concrete in front of my door has completely been destroyed, it lasted about 60 days and they are telling me that the concrete is not warrantied, only workmanship. The concrete is there but they way they installed it by adding to much water on the top coat has caused it to break and crumble, that's workmanship. I have also got a 22 ft long crack in the garage floor as well. This was suppose to be 6000 psi fiber mesh concrete, should should not be happening in 3 months time. Now that it has been summertime, I am still getting water coming into the garage under the door they installed and by the garage door. The shingles are also staring to curl from the heat. I lifted the aluminum piece at the bottom of the door up and there is no caulk or anything under the door which explains why there is water coming in. The seals around the garage door were not installed correctly which is why I am getting water coming into the garage. I have been calling Chicagoland garage builders and I keep getting the " I will call you back Tuesday" routine again. The one lady I spoke to event told me "we have been getting a lot of issue with water leaking i the garage and we do not know how to fix it" At this point I have spent $31,000 with Chicagoland garage builders and I am spending more to fix the issues they are not following up on. They take your money and run. I have had the concrete replaced since then and I have had people come out for professional written opinions of the concrete and workmanship with samples sent for evaluation on the concrete. I am documenting everything faulty as well as the additional cost to fix what was quote due to poor workmanship. I am in the processing of filing with the BBB once I get all of my evidence as well as filing in Illinois court for breach of contract as they will not honor even their workmanship. Let's be clear, Chicagoland Garage Builders is really A&L Concrete, do not use this company, customer service is horrible and the work is sub-par... This is a concrete company that doesn't do concrete well. Three months after the concrete was poured large sections of it started "spaulding" or the top layer flaking off. I had to call several times to even get a response from them. Finally, I was told by the owner of the company, that the concrete nor the workmanship is warrantied in anyway, that should pretty much tell you everything you need to know. He claimed they will attempt to fix it but, after several months of waiting I haven't heard from them, and they no longer answer the phone. The concrete cannot be fixed, it was a bad batch and it needs to be re-poured, he knows that. This is their own mix of concrete mind you. The great thing is, the folks in the office and the owner himself will do their very best to make you feel like a jerk for asking them to fix their bad work, I really enjoyed that part. So, now my lawyer needs to get involved. I would give them 0 stars if I could. read more

Absolutely love my new garage! Gary was great to work with. Honest, trustworthy and not a pushy salesman. He knows his business. Price was very competitive and he stuck to the signed contract price to the penny. I was able to get exactly what I wanted. He never tried to up sell more garage than I needed. The electrician tried to charge over the agreed price and after giving Gary a call he took care of it and told me to only pay him the agreed price. The only reason I would give them 4 stars instead of 5 is the service door is leaking after a heavy rain. They have sent the builder out and it has since been fixed. They stand by their work, I would highly recommend them! read more

Seems as though my review was removed from a couple of years ago. Perhaps my words hit a nerve? My stance is still the same: * Do your research. Just because the salesman lives around the corner from us doesn't always mean quality or great customer service. I think in this case, great customer service wasn't even considered on the part of CGB. * It's just 3 years later and our driveway is crumbling. Don't hire a garage building company to also do your concrete. It's not their expertise. Go elsewhere. They don't stand by their work. Nor do they return phone calls. I fully take blame for not trusting my gut here. * They laid our concrete in November and the owner told my husband that HE should've known the weather was unpredictable and HE should have made the call to pour later. This was of course after they failed to do it in October, the agreed upon date. Uh. Isn't this your job as a business owner? These guys suck. I love my garage! I am a picky engineer and did way more research than I should have. I live in the Wheaton area and had a number of promising choices to make. After receiving a number of quotes over the last couple years, my wife and I finally decided to move forward with Chicagoland Garage Builders. We felt very comfortable from the start. This company has a great formula for success - fair price, attentive service, top notch craftsmanship - and most important - good people, top to bottom. I work from home and enjoyed watching the crew from start to finish. They were all experts in their job and really seemed to take pride in doing things right! The concrete work is showcase and with their unique eco-green mix, is going to look good for a long time. The garage is beautiful and matches my home perfect. The carpenters were truly skilled craftsmen. My neighbors keep commenting on how hard the crew worked and are very impressed with the results. **Update 2 years later** Driveway is crumbling!!! See photos in the comments on their Facebook page. Despite promises from the office that the owner will call me I've gotten no call. They take your money and DON'T care about you after that. 2017 Concrete surface turned out uneven and rough instead of a nice smooth finish like previous concrete work I've had done. It had high ridges or trowel lines in spots and little holes in others, which I'm afraid will hold water and cause chipping when temperatures cause freezing and thawing. The concrete apron cracked before it was even driven on. Was promised all the concrete would be power washed and sealed to help prevent problems. They never came to do that. The first winter 2017-2018 a long crack appeared inside the garage on the side a vehicle didn't even park on. I've texted the salesman numerous times and talked with the office over the years. No response from either on doing anything that was promised. I know concrete can crack but these happened way too soon, which indicates an inferior product and poor workmanship. I cannot recommend a company that does shoddy work and fails to follow through on promised work once they cashed the last check. Am extremely disappointed. read more

Up to a point my experience with Chicagoland Garage Builders to demolish an existing garage & concrete, & replace with new construction was good with a couple minor issues. The inside person, Sandra, was always responsive & helpful. Each crew was friendly, worked very hard, & did a good job. After the concrete was poured on 7/22/19 there was electric in the house on the garage circuit that stopped working--back door light (that had a 3 way switch to the outside garage light), laundry (washer, dryer, overhead light), & as I later realized, the sump pump. There were no problems with the wiring or function to any of these things prior to the new concrete. I talked to Chicagoland at that point & was under the impression that power would be restored to the house issues when the electricians came. The electricians came roughly two months later on Friday 9/13. After they left I checked the back door light & laundry. They still weren't working. I did not realize yet that the sump pump was also affected. I called Current Electric. They sent a gentleman out that evening who suggested that the problem with the laundry was a faulty GFI. That seemed an overly simplistic explanation & very coincidental timing to the pouring of the concrete. No explanation was given for the back door light. No work was done. The following Monday I called Current Electric again to follow up & said that we would schedule a date in early October to rectify. They said they would fit me into the schedule. I called on 10/1 to schedule & was told they would fit me in. I called again on 10/24 & left a voicemail. After not getting a response & having lived with this situation since 7/22 I thought I better call another electrical company to get a price since I hadn't received even a return call from Current Electric. Then on 10/31 during the first snow my crawl space was flooded & I realized the sump pump had also been on the original garage circuit. At that point it had been over three months since I lost electric in the house that functioned correctly prior to the new concrete. Now it was an emergency that would also require a plumber to pump out the crawl space. I left a voicemail for Current Electric on Saturday 11/2. On Sunday 11/3 I had a plumber come to review. On Monday 11/4 I had not received a return call from Current Electric as of 9:00 a.m. I called Chicagoland to review the now emergency situation. Sandra said she would call Current Electric. I said if I needed to take care of this myself I expected to be reimbursed for my expenses. At 12:20 p.m. I received a call from Current Electric saying that they would be here "sometime this week." I told her I had heard the same thing from them since 9/13. I had little confidence. Without a firm date it sounded like the same runaround & with the flooded crawl I couldn't wait. By 2:00 p.m. I still didn't have a response with a firm date from them. I called a plumber to schedule a date to pump out the crawl & asked if they could subcontract with an electrician to come in right behind them. The plumbing company said they would come on 11/7 & take care of everything. I called Chicagoland again on 11/4 & said that I needed to confirm with them that if Current Electric didn't confirm a date today and/or finally confirmed a date but didn't show up that I would be reimbursed for charges. They did not agree to that. By then I had no confidence that Current Electric had any intention of remedying the situation & Chicagoland wasn't bearing any responsibility for the electrical company that they hired as a subcontractor on their job. I did receive a phone call from the owner of Current Electric mid-afternoon on 11/5. He said he would come out that evening to review. Too little too late. Coming out that evening to review wouldn't fix the problem & I had already committed to the company that gave me a firm date of 11/7. I told the owner of Current Electric that I expected to be reimbursed for the charges. I emailed a receipt twice to Chicagoland & Current Electric for the cost to pump out the crawl space, restore power to the sump pump, laundry, & back door light. I have not received a response as of 1/6/20. That charge did not include a second charge incurred when I had another electrician come to restore the 3 way switch in December. I did not expect to lose any functioning electric in my house as a result of having a new garage built. I did expect Chicagoland & their handpicked electrical company to be responsible when it occurred. This was not a case of faulty wiring. Everything functioned fine prior to construction. I ended up spending close to $1000 out of my pocket to restore power to the back door light, laundry room, sump pump, & finally to restore the 3-way switch from the back door light to the outside garage light. It was a very unfortunate end to this project. read more

I asked 3 garage building companies to come out and give me a presentation, after which I put together a spreadsheet comparing each company's pluses and minuses. I visited a minimum of 3 of each builder's referrals near me, viewed the garage and asked questions. I chose Chicagoland Garage Builders (CGB) based on what they included in their proposal, the strong referrals, quality of work I saw done, and their sales associate Norm was the perfect combination of knowledge and professionalism, and pleasant to deal with. Do some homework about what you will want, what your city will want, included in my city was the addition of a dry well. Norm worked excellently setting up a project that was going to meet my budget, needs, and meet my town's requirements. One huge benefit for me was that the dry well and engineering was handled directly by them, not another outside firm. Once the project was started everyone was pleasant to deal with. They were great and accommodating to some logistical issues about where I had put the temporary storage container. That said, a 7 ton bobcat and a cement hauler is going to take a toll on your asphalt driveway if it's old and crumbling like mine. Another partner in the project is going to be your city's building department. Plan on patience and delays due to weather, permits, and your city's building inspector's schedule. That's not CGB's fault. How were they to work with during the project? Great! Everyone I met on the job was polite and professional. I can't name everyone but they were all good and they all cleaned up very well at the end of their job. Felipe in demolition and pouring. Wojtek and Igor built the garage in two days! Arturo and Miguel doing general work, dirt and backfilling. Communication was important to me and Sandra in the office was superb in answering questions and requests and telling me of upcoming visits. Lastly, CGB does not do the electrical, they work with Current Electric. You will pay them directly when they are done. Read and understand what is included in the Electric estimate. I did and was fully prepared for the additional expense of extra trenching, and had them add a few lights and outlets while they were here. Ozzy the foreman was a pro. They trenched, hooked up to my service panel and had all of the garage wired in 2 hours. I'm not in the construction trades but I wasn't going to accept shoddy work. They built me a very nice garage and made the experience very drama free. They didn't use cheap warped wood and flimsy doors and windows, everything is good quality. Even the garage door opener has built in wi-fi and works with my phone. read more

We are very pleased with the new 22' x 22' vinyl-sided garage built for us by Chicagoland Garage Builders. Not only are we happy with the end result, but our neighbors and everyone else we show the garage to are also impressed. When finished, we knew we had made a good choice with CGB. These are the reasons why: First, the people. We had a chance to meet or talk to most of the people who worked to make our garage project a success. They are like a family - a team that enjoys working together with a common goal - to build a quality garage and make the customer happy. The pride they took in their work was obvious. They answered all of our questions and offered helpful suggestions. They all made us confident and comfortable that we would get a well-built garage. The garage was built from scratch at the rear of our lot close to a low spot that accumulates water when it rains, so proper grading is important. Also, we wanted a sufficient turn-around area so that we could drive out instead of backing out on a long driveway. Construction materials had to be hauled to the rear of the lot. Our salesman said CGB would take care of everything, and they did. A well-built garage starts with a well-constructed foundation. CGB has its own cement/concrete company. Very happy with garage pad and driveway, as we were with all of the other construction work. CGB is familiar with the building codes and they take care of the hassle of getting the construction permit. Our phone calls were returned. Follow-up after construction has been excellent. I shopped around for a garage and based on reviews and quotes, I chose Chicagoland. I was not disappointed. Like any construction project there were a few misses, but in general I got a much superior building to what my neighbors have. Chicagoland is not the cheapest, but the quality is better than what I saw elsewhere. With these guys you really do get what you pay for - when I sell my house someday this garage is going to push up the value One bit of advice for anyone getting a garage built, by any company. You have to pay attention to details, do your own research and be there in person when construction starts. No plan is perfect, and if you let the construction crew make all your decisions you won't be happy. This isn't like buying an appliance, you need to be home for the construction, at least on some days. Some of the negative reviews reflect that. read more

I had 4 garage constructing companies give me an estimate and they were the lowest bidder. My salesman, Bob, stated that he is a "concrete guy", and they did a fine job in that department. Also they are very knowledgeable about Chicago city building codes and came up with the best siting and design for the stairs. My only complaint would be that they have some communication problems with their subcontractors. They stated that the garage was ready and gave me a key but the garage interior was still filled with construction debris. While it took a bit of time to get the building going, once it did, in less than 3 weeks it was completed .....from demo to electrical, the last stage. Straight up rad experience all the way around. Norm came by on May 16 (2018) to go over options for a 2.5 car garage. He informed me it could take 6-8 weeks before they could begin work. Let's do it i says and signed over a down payment. Two weeks later they informed me they had an opening the following week and banged that thing out faster than me and my bro dudes can crush two large Pequod's pizza and a case of Schlitz. June 8th the concrete framing was done (in just a couple of hours), a week later (once the rain stopped) they poured it in one day, and after a couple of weeks of curing two Polish dudes came out and built the whole thing in a day and a half- in 90 degree weather. JUST TWO POLISH DUDES IN A DAY AND A HALF. Hell i've had hangovers that last longer. Not only did they crush it, they were hilarious. If all of Poland works like this i say we make it the 51st state. We'll name it Chicago East. Anyways i digress. A week later Ozzy and another electrician showed up and wired it in a half day. They did super work, nice guys, great attitudes. On July 7th my man palace was done. It would have been faster but crappy weather slowed down a couple of dates. Not only was this crazy fast but cheaper than other quotes. Does this mean the quality is low due to speed and cost? HELL NO. It's square, to code, and well done. Am i happy to wrench and play in my new Garage Mahal? Is the pope Catholic? Chicagoland Garage Builders is tops in their field. Not only are their prices competitive, their quality is the best. After comparing them with five major competitors, we went with CGB. Our sales rep - Bob Schuckles, helped us pick out the right mix of features. He was on top of every step of the building process. When our siding couldn't be obtained locally, he brought in siding from Pennsylvania to match our house. We chose their concrete additive upgrade that repels water and grease. The Therma-Tru service door they provide as standard is the same quality door we would choose for our house. The double hung windows have a tilt-out feature for easy cleaning. We did not hire Chicagoland Garage Builders for our project, however, during the bidding process, Gary was professional, transparent, communicative. He was fantastic to work with and the service he provided was beyond my expectations. I would recommend Gary and Chicagoland Garage Builders to anyone who asks me about building a garage. In pricing our project out, we got quotes from their competitors, Danley and A-1 Garage Builders. The pricing, communication, and responsiveness was markedly better than Danley and A-1. The service their salespeople provided completely pales in comparison to Gary and Chicagoland Garage Builders. His attention to detail, promptness, and punctuality with addressing any questions I had was truly extraordinary. The quote from Gary was approximately 50% of what it's going to cost to build the garage and complete the driveway. However, given our unique situation of just completing a huge remodeling project on our entire house, we wanted to have complete aesthetic consistency between our house and the garage. read more

He was very analytical and was able to tell me what I needed to do with my yard to prep it before work began. We talked about garages for almost 2 hours. Work began in the springtime and it was fast and professional. CGB was very attentive to our needs and they built a fantastic garage. I called and got 2 different responses very quickly from them.. But trying to get them to do the work was a totally different story. All they want is to get you to give them a deposit. They would not respond or return a call. I am so glad we choose them to pour our concrete and build our garage. All of the employees that we had contact with were kind, helpful, and experienced at their particular job. I talked to several of them throughout the process and they thought highly of the company's owner, Dwayne, and enjoyed working for him. I believe this makes a huge difference in the quality of work that is done. The job was completed in a timely fashion and we were updated on steps that were taken to accomplish the job. Phone calls were always answered and returned, at no time did we ever feel pushed to the side or unimportant. We are currently having other construction work done at our home and other tradesmen checked out the work that was being done on the driveway and garage and they were very impressed with the quality and workmanship that took place on my nice new garage:). Communication is an issue with this company. I was told a date when the concrete pour would begin, then nobody showed up. No calls were made by Chicagoland to advise on why the crew didn't show up plus I had multiple non-returned phone calls and voicemails from the salesman. Gary said he would be at the job site most of the time during the project to make sure it went smooth. He only showed up to collect the check and didn't put any time or concern into the work done on the garage. Their motto is misleading as well. "We do it all". The day the garage was to be built, a Danleys Garage World crew shows up to the house. I know this because they all had shirts on that said "Danleys Garage World". After the crew noticed the "Chicagoland garage builders" sign on the front lawn, they turned their shirts inside out to try and hide the Danleys logo. Very unprofessional. I confronted Gary about it and he assured me he would find out what was going on. I got the run-around and the issue was never clarified. I made it a point to him that if I wanted Danleys to build my garage, I would have hired Danleys and payed Danleys prices as well. The electric went smooth. Probably the best part of the job. Not even 2 months after the garage was built, there is already a crack in the concrete. I contacted the salesman and he wouldn't attempt to try and fix the issue. The garage window had to be replaced 2 times and the service door needed repair 2 times to prevent water from getting inside the garage. What a hassle. Overall, I do not and would not recommend CGB. read more
