Most boba places in the US are just too sweet, too milky, or both, and it's hard to find a place with a strong tea flavor that make it feel like you're drinking milk TEA instead of sugar-milk. Came here on a Saturday around 2PM. The line was long but manageable -- maybe 10 parties in front of me. Shortly after I got in line, though, the line was easily 30+ people. I can see why many may skip going due to the wait. The quality and aesthetic of this spot is unmatched. While I'm no boba/tea expert, my friend who is was also very impressed. Employees will come by and give out menus/take orders in line to help speed up the process; once you get to the front you simply give the piece to the cashier and they ring you up. I got the Taiwanese Fruit Tea with light ice and no sugar. The presentation was great and I enjoyed seeing the real fruit in my drink. Even without any (added?) sugar the drink was still sweet -- I'm guessing due to the fruit itself (apple, lemon, lime, pineapple, papaya seeds?). Price ($8.25) was expensive IMO, but as I said the presentation and quality of this place is unmatched. I don't see myself being a regular but I'm probably not their target market. Not too sweet, the mousse had great texture and flavor and the grass jelly was soft and succulent. Expensive at $8 when compared to other BBT places, but the quality of the ingredients is undisputed. When I arrived with two other young ladies, we were there 10 minutes before opening, yet we still had to wait around 15 minutes each for our orders. Finally went to check out this very hyped, "Michelin-star" (but actually not, lol) boba spot. It's always packed and parking is tight. It's a tiny store, but the drinks are really interesting! We got a free sample when we ordered our drinks, and the free sample drink was really delicious. The sample was a green tea with mousse and grass jelly--it was so refreshing and the tea flavor really stood out. Often with green tea drinks you can't really taste the tea flavor and it's overwhelmed by sugar. At Chicha, you can essentially build your own drinks (tea type + add-on mousse/cream/other + topping). The drinks are not too sweet, so get perfect if you like your boba sweet at all or get the middle option or less if you prefer more of a tea flavor. I tried the cassia black tea with mousse and the sakura konjac jelly. I unfortunately was not a fan--the black tea is a bit too watery and I thought it would have milk. The sakura konjac jelly didn't match that well, and was a bit artificially sweet. I definitely probably ordered the wrong drink, but I would try a fruit tea instead maybe and order a different topping. The mousse is really delicious though! read more

Super popular boba spot with an itty bitty parking lot and fresh brewed tea. If you come, be prepared to wait at least ~30 minutes for your drink. The line is always long, and each drink is prepared to order (they brew each single cup of tea) which takes more time. I've come a few times and always found that their drinks were always good. I dont like my drinks super sweet, so I always get less sugar, but the boba here is already sweet, so 0% sweet was perfect for me with the added pearls. The boba is cooked pretty well, good amount of chewy and squishy haha. The tea is good as well. The menu is seemingly small but with the amount of modifications, it could probably take a while to find the right combo for you. Man this place was busy! It reminds me of 7leaves back in California because they actually use tea leaves and not syrups like most places to make their drinks. I really enjoyed my tea and the pearls were well made, not too hard or sticky. The drink carriers here are very cute and different from what we're used to. The milk tea here is always delicious! I like that the milk tea isn't as sweet as other places and that you can really taste the tea flavor. It's nice that the staff also always has some sort of sample. I've never gone at a time or day where it isn't busy so I wouldn't stop by if you're in a rush. You'll definitely be in the line for a decent amount of time or maybe even stuck looking for parking if both parking lots are full. One of the most unique drinks I've had in a while is the high mountain pouchong tea with lemon juice. Tarty flavor and their mousse is on point here. Compliments the tea nicely as well. I came on a Sunday night and luckily able to order in 5 mins but you'll be waiting at least 15 mins since they brew the tea to order. What I worry about consistency since we had two drinks, our high mountain was flavorful with a nice tea flavor whereas the bubble milk tea (and damn why you gotta call it bubble, makes me question your establishment because only bai ren people say that) was so watery and lacking flavor that it was like we got two drinks from two different places. There's also hella workers so there may be a consistency and workflow issue that they will need to work out, which is understandable since they recently opened within a month ago. Their mousse for the high mountain is very good, reminds me Gong Cha. With the hype pretty crazy for this place still, I do not recommend waiting more than 10 mins to order a drink here. For sure you'll be waiting even longer for them to brew your tea for your order so hearing the 1+ hour wait seems expected if there's even 10 people in line. I like this option in Bellevue and hope they continue to improve on their consistency. At $8 a drink, it's not cheap and will easily turned people away. So it's not worth the hype but it doesn't mean it's not worth checking out. I don't know any other spot that makes the high mountain pouchong tea with mousse like they do so they have this part of the market cornered for now. I got my drinks cold so with less ice, your drink may get even more diluted since the tea is brewed fresh and the ice gets melted. This may not be a good excuse for weak tea though since Orabae in Irvine, CA brews their tea to order and still manage to have a strong tea flavor. So maybe with time or a hot drink their tea flavor will be more pronounced as they work out the kinks. Some of the best bubble tea I've had! Tea was super smooth and pearls were fresh and not overly sweet! Having gone on a Saturday afternoon, the wait was incredibly long, but online ordering is an option. For those who don't have a high sweet tolerance, definitely go with "light" or no sugar. We came in on a Sunday afternoon and waited a total of an hour to get our drinks. We got a green tea with cream and boba as well as a green tea with passionfruit and boba. Both were really good and the tea tasted very pleasant. They were also handing out samples of the honey osmanthus oolong which was also very good. So first, just to clear the air - CHICHA San Chen did not receive any Michelin stars. It was, however, awarded something that's somewhat of an equivalent from the "International Taste + Quality Institute in Brussels", in 2017. Now, onto the boba. I've already been here many times since it's opened. I've ordered their special teas (e.g. key lime and mango mousse drinks in the summer) as well as other variations of their standard teas. So far, my favorite has been the Honey Osmanthus Oolong tea. It has a nice tea flavor and it's just sweet enough but not too sweet. I've found some of their creamy + fruity drinks sweeter than I'd like (but not overwhelmingly sweet and certainly not artificial-tasting either). It might take you a few tries to find a combination you like, but once you do - you'll thank me later. read more

The boba is so fresh, warm, and chewy. Perfectly cooked! The lines are so long so come early. SoCal resident here. This chicha is just as good as LA if not better. This could be because the wait isn't an hour and the drinks don't take as long to make. The offer samples too which LA hasn't done since it first opened. It is more on the pricy side. So unless you find value in great tea, I wouldn't recommend it for the high price tag, and the tax in Seattle is insane, but yes I will still go here and I'm so glad Washington has Chi Cha!
