Twice now I have purchased the Kentucky club, thick slice home house baked turkey, thick sliced in-house baked ham, and thick sliced bacon, with thick sliced Swiss cheese and cheddar, with hyper fresh greens and fresh sliced Roma tomatoes. Did I mention they make their own bread? So all of those great ingredients stacked on in-house baked whole wheat bun. So delicious. They even make their own potato chips! And they are amazing. Oh, they also make their own cookies from scratch and they are pretty darn delicious. Here's the hard part about this place, it's practically invisible. It sits on the backside of an industrial area, and is relatively hidden for that reason. The only reason I ever heard of this place is because I went to work on their security system. The food looked so good that I bought lunch, and after going back a week later and eating there again, I can Guarantee that I will return weekly for at least one lunch, because the prices are so good and the food is so good that this place just cannot be passed up. Not to mention the great cause. Don't go expecting to sit down, it's takeout only, but everything is lovingly packaged and prepared hourly. The tater tots are superbly seasoned and cooked. Crispy and stayed that way the entire time I was eating. I lived in Chicago for 20 years, and Red Gold ketchup and salsa were some of my favorites. The burger was cooked perfectly, the bacon crispy, Swiss cheese melted nicely and the bun toasted along with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles (no onion since I'm going right to work ) for that perfect lunch. Olive Garden is not the bastion of Italian food, but they charge about the same price and it's good. And they include breadsticks and soup/salad. I'm not a chain restaurant kind of person, but this place makes me want I got a pizza with extra cheese. Good thing I did or it would have no cheese. If you get green peppers, they will be diced into very large pieces and put on top. Almost like having fresh peppers put on top of a cooked pizza. The crust is good and has a good chew to it, but it is "flimsy" like a NY style pizza and it cannot support the weight of the toppings. Son surprised me and also got pizza. While he loved the samosas, he likened his pizza to a glorified Tombstone pizza. For $20+, that's kinda sad. $80+ for food that was underwhelming at best, is a pricey little lesson learned. Out of all of them, Willett ended up being our favorite. We had Michael as our tour guide, and he was fantastic. The tour felt a little different from the others because we got to taste different bourbons throughout the tour instead of all at once at the end. Michael was gregarious, funny, and a great storyteller. He kept everyone engaged while sharing the history of the distillery, the bourbon-making process, and plenty of entertaining stories along the way. One of my favorite parts was seeing all of the photos of the distillery cats at the beginning of the tour. As cat lovers, we absolutely loved that. This distillery has clearly been blessed by some very cute feline employees! We enjoyed tasting the different bourbons, and while the gift shop wasn't huge, it had some really unique items. We even brought home a catnip toy for our two kitties. If you're visiting the Bardstown area, I highly recommend adding Willett to your list. It was easily our favorite distillery experience of the trip.
