The service the employees provide is always good. I got the chicken and hash brown bowl, it was about 6 dollars.

Leave it to Champaign to have the one and only crappy Chick Fil A . Gave up in the line at the drive thru.

We were so glad to find a Portillo's on our vacation. We had visited them in Florida a few years…read moreback and really liked the food. This one in Champaign was just as good. I got the Italian beef with sweet & hot peppers with the gravy on the side (I don't like my sandwich falling apart on me) and french fries. My husband got the hot dogs, which came dressed with a dill pickle, tomatoes, and hot peppers, and a side of onion rings. We also splurged with the yummy-looking desserts (strawberry shortcake and lemon cake) in the cooler near the register. Everything was so good. The beef (which there was plenty of!) had so much flavor even without the gravy. The bun it was on was hearty enough to hold it. The hot dogs tasted good quality. The fries were good (not at all greasy), and the onion rings had such a good flavor, not overly breaded. The desserts were a perfect ending. The restaurant was very clean (including the bathrooms). There was someone cleaning something (including the walls) the entire time we were there. I wish we had one closer to where we live here in Ohio!

With it being one of my favorite restaurants back in Chicago, it completed my search for a restaurant. I ended up ordering online via Uber Eats delivery being that I was comfortably settled in for the day, plus watching college football. Portillo's Champaign had a 4.4 rating out of (1,500+) which was the assurance I needed that I would have a quality experience. On the menu, I was interested in ordering either the Plant-based Garden Dog, or the Breaded Whitefish Sandwich. Out of both, I ended up choosing the Plant-based Garden Dog, which is highly a favorite of mine at Portillo's. Whether it be Grubhub or now Uber Eats, I love ordering online because it is convenient. Much praise to the Uber Eats delivery driver, Alexis, for arriving with my order in a reasonable time, as well as meeting me in front of the hotel as requested. And Alexis also confirmed that it was me grabbing the order, which I cannot thank him so much for. My mouth salivated as I took pictures of my order to share on yelp. The Crinkle-cut French Fries were the first item I started with eating and oh my they did not disappoint! While my eyes were peeled to the Georgia Bulldogs vs Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets college football game on television, my fingers were grabbing French Fries by the second to eat. As a lover of the Plant-based Garden Dog, these eyes of mine lit up prior to taking my first bite. A bite that left me satisfied as my tastebuds were met with the delicious garden dog and its toppings while at the same time poppy seeds fell from the bun. I swear! I can eat a Plant-based Garden Dog each week and still be satisfied with it like I never had it before, tehehe. Now for dessert, the Chocolate Cake Slice was the cherry on top to a satisfying dinner ordered from Portillo's. I would be lying if I said that my mouth was not salivating prior to sticking my fork inside of it. And each forkful of that moist chocolatey piece of heaven left my mouth salivating along with a devilish grin on my face; there was no chocolate left behind, I swear. Being that I had a great ordering experience, I would surely order from Portillo's Champaign again when in the city of Champaign whether it be Uber Eats delivery or takeout. But most of all I was impressed by the food. Truth be told I'm not a huge lover of fast food. I cook a lot (and quite well too thank you very much! Lol) so when I eat out it's usually for more than a drive thru. With that said, all norms get thrown out the window when travelling. So with this location being super close to the hotel I was staying at, and although I'd never heard of the chain before (just found out it was one) I was hungry and thought I'd give it a try. So happy I did! I ordered the 2pc tenders (one medium, one hot) that comes on 2 pieces of bread with cheese fries and a drink, extra pickles (bc I'm extra lmao!), and the kale slaw. The chicken was seasoned perfectly (the hot was more like a nice medium for my palate) and was super crispy on the outside, tender & juicy on the inside. The fries were also crispy & delicious, and the cheese sauce was tasty (I had mine on the side). The kale slaw which the staff person said they make fresh every morning was really good and definitely tasted fresh. The Dave's sauce was a spin on a 'Thousand Island' type of taste, and the honey that came highly recommended, pushed me well over the edge... Pros: Courtesy & professionalism of staff, fun ambiance, well-cooked/great tasting food, portion size, and price Cons: No grilled chicken items on the menu for those of us trynna behave ourselves on the road Would I go back? Absolutely I would, and it may be today!!!

Chicken slider was too much, the chicken did not fit the bread or visa versa. The tender was served very hot, which was nice, much rather have something served hot rather than cold. Ordered the tender with medium flavoring for heat, next time I would probably go a step down from medium because it was spicy. Seemed well staffed and the staff there was keeping busy. Not sure if I would go back, the flavor being delivered via a dusting might not be my cup of tea.

More than five years have passed since I even had a Five Guys burger, which would have been from their Medford, MA location next to Wellington Station. Finally, after 3 years of living in Urbana, IL and splurging on fast-food burgers everywhere, the time had come to give their Champaign joint a try. Given how scary past Yelp reviews describe them, do they fulfill our Five Guys' experiences of old and carry on their reputation? The answer: A big, fat, dripping with cheese and fresh toppings, YES! Spacious, clean, free peanuts for the taking, freshly made in front of you, and served piping hot, we were reminded last night why we adore Five Guys. That burger, a cross between Culver's and Wendy's (by my quick estimation), was divine. Those cajun fries were as tasty and addicting as I remembered. The service, while not above and beyond cheery, was communicative and all that was necessary. Yes, they are pricey, but you do get a very filling burger with as many free toppings as you want. We also were given a bag full of those cajun fries, although we were spared extra regular fries we had ordered, oddly enough. All that considered, we are very happy to have Five Guys back in our lives once again.
