The tripe is tender, the flavor is always on point, and one thing I really appreciate is that they're the only menudo spot in town that lets you order just the hominy. That's my favorite part, so being able to get a bowl of it is a huge plus. I'm here almost every Sunday, which probably says more than anything else I could write. The staff is always super sweet and friendly, and the cashiers are always welcoming. They make every visit a pleasant experience. A Santa Maria staple! If I had one small suggestion, it would be the tortillas. I wish they were a little better, but that's a very minor complaint and definitely doesn't take away from how good the menudo is. The women's restroom was clean, but my brother-in-law said the men's restroom was in pretty rough shape. The food was good as always, but my cheeseburger was disappointing. The lettuce was so pale yellow it was almost white, and it looked far from fresh. I've never had an In-N-Out burger with lettuce like that before, so I ended up removing it. Maybe it was because we visited around 11:00 p.m., or maybe it's just this particular location, but the overall experience didn't meet the high standards I've always associated with In-N-Out. The food itself was still good, but the cleanliness, restroom conditions, and lack of attention to detail really missed the mark. Because of those issues, I'm giving this location 2 stars. This is a very old school location. No drive-thru here. Still, I was craving a hot dog for some odd reason, and so we drove a few extra minutes to get to Wienerschnitzel. We parked out back and headed for the front / only entrance to order. I felt like I was in a time warp from the 1960's with the architecture and styling of the place. The cashier who helped us was very friendly and added a positive note when I was feeling second thoughts about my restaurant choice. Dear Hubby stayed inside to pay and wait for our order. I went outside to the patio tables to hold a spot. It took a while for the food to be prepared. Once it was time to dig in, I was grateful that they offer the option of an all-beef dog. Their Chicago-style toppings work for me - pickle relish, onions, fresh tomatoes, and mustard. I'd prefer brown mustard to yellow, but that's the only thing I'd change. Well, a bigger hot dog would be nice. Take a Costco-sized dog, and add those condiments and I'd really be a happy camper. I was still hungry after finishing the one dog I'd ordered. I mistakenly tried the watermelon lemonade. That wasn't great; the watermelon flavor tasted like lab-created chemicals, which it probably was. I'd not order that again. If you want a retro experience, give this Wienerschnitzel a visit.
