I've been coming here since I was a baby when we lived in Utah (my parents knew the owners as well and they were wonderful people). I have such fond memories here and +20 years later every time I visit from California I always make a stop here. I love their food - it's consistently delicious, fresh, and tastes the same every single time. I always get the chicken plate with half rice and salad and their chicken is always very tender and juicy. Their salad is always fresh and crispy and their rice is always always so fluffy and delicious. I love the yogurt side that comes with it too. I love this place so much and I always wish for it to operate. It's also a very healthy meal (depending on what you order of course) and it can be very balanced. It's on the smaller side so if it's busy you may not be able to find a seat but it's definitely worth the wait. It's very simple and relaxed inside the restaurant - that's how you can tell the food will be amazing because the main focus is on the food. I recommend this establishment every time I bring someone to Utah and when I'm in Utah. Kheyli khoshmazeh!!! 10/10 recommend!!!

Well a friend referred this place to me. The fries were bomb and the kabob was a decent size, but the pita bread was too small but great if your watching your carb intake lol. I didn't wait to long for my food so that was good. The salad dressing I was not to much of a fan of. The staff was nice and patient and waited for me to decide on what I wanted due to the fact I have never been there before. Inside the place was very roomy, enough space for a good size crowd and was clean. There was plenty of parking.

This place is a small restaurant that is honestly pretty easy to overlook, as in I have driven past it a bunch and didn't notice it. I wish I had noticed it earlier because it was delicious! I got the chicken kabob plate and it came with a ton of food! The rice was also so so good. The staff was super friendly and helpful while we figured out what to get. I definitely recommend giving this place a try!

I've been looking for good Mediterranean food in SLC since we moved here and mostly given up. But then I found Yelp reviews about Chicken Express! We finally got to trying it and my husband is still raving about it. I ordered the two chicken kabobs plate (only $8.25!!), which comes with a gigantic portion of flavorful rice, an iceberg salad with some kind of KILLER dressing, and pita wedges with a creamy garlic dipping sauce. The chicken was better than any I've ever had at a Mediterranean place - moist, full of flavor from being marinated in divine spices and tangy lemon, so good I wanted to lick the wooden skewer. My husband ordered the half chicken plate ($7.95 - such a killer deal!), which came with all of the above except pita/dipping sauce (you have a choice of rice, baked beans, or potatoes.) He liked the spices on my chicken better but was happy to devour his giant pieces of perfectly cooked chicken. Again, a gigantic portion of rice, which is good because you want to just drink that stuff, it's so good. He has quite an appetite and couldn't believe how big the portion sizes here are. And so affordable - all the plates are under $10. It was enough food that we could share with our hungry toddler and still have a whole container of leftover rice. No leftover chicken because that stuff is magical. And my husband practically drank the pita dipping sauce from my entree. No waste here. There was another customer who was the big, burly, construction type and I heard him ask for a box to take leftovers home too (!!) The service is quick and friendly and no-nonsense. Self-serve drinks, styrofoam plates, and plastic utensils. The restaurant isn't the cleanest (tables could use a good wipe-down and the floors needed to be swept but it wasn't too bad) so we'd probably do takeout next time, but there was a lot of business even early on a Thursday night. They have high chairs and booster seats for the kiddos and I saw one kid meal on the menu for $4.25. Some construction next door right now but there's still plenty of parking behind it. You need to check this place out. It's worth it. We are just counting down the days when we can enjoy their chicken again!

The service was very good. The food came out very fast and it was really fresh. Even though the dolmas we're not on the menu as a side dish we were able to get some. Definitely worth asking for.

It's like dining in a sun-soaked courtyard by the sea. Yes, it's a little kitschy--but in the best way. It totally adds to the charm. I've been here a few times, and every visit's been a win. It has a true mom-and-pop vibe, the staff is always warm, and while things can slow down when it's busy, that just means everything's made fresh--and worth the wait. (I don't mind. I came to enjoy, not rush.) This round: We started with a crisp, fresh salad and their classic hummus with pita--simple, bright, and the perfect kickoff. I had the Koofteh Meatballs--jumbo Persian-style beef meatballs stuffed with apricots, simmered in a tangy tomato sauce and served with basmati rice. The meat? Tender. The sauce? A whole flavor moment. My other half went with the Bagala Polow, a slow-stewed lamb shank served on dill basmati rice with lima beans and a side of lamb au jus. That dill rice? Unexpected and so, so good. Bonus points for the community vibes: While we were dining, someone celebrated a birthday--and they shared their mango cake with the whole restaurant. Such a sweet surprise that shows the spirit of the place. Final thoughts: Decor - Slightly kitschy, totally charming. Like eating in a postcard. Food - Flavorful, fresh, and made with heart. Community - The kind of place that turns strangers into dinner party guests. Our go-to for Mediterranean eats--highly recommend!

We started with the fried cauliflower and zaatar fries, both served with an incredible dipping sauce that disappeared embarrassingly fast. The cauliflower was perfectly seasoned, crispy on the outside, tender inside, and honestly good enough to order again on its own. For my meal, I ordered the shakshuka. It arrived bubbling hot in a cast iron skillet with rich tomato sauce, flavorful meatballs, perfectly baked eggs, and warm grilled pita for scooping up every last bite. I've had shakshuka before, and this was easily one of the best versions I've tasted. Every bite was comforting, hearty, and packed with flavor. Spud went with a Laziz salad alongside another helping of the roasted cauliflower, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Everything that came to the table looked thoughtfully prepared, fresh, and beautifully presented. What made the experience truly memorable, though, was our waitress, Omri. As a Deaf customer, it's always a pleasant surprise when someone can communicate directly in sign language. Omri signed with us, made us feel genuinely welcome, and provided exceptional service from beginning to end. That personal connection meant a great deal to me, and it absolutely elevated an already wonderful meal. I was so impressed that I happily double-tipped her. Great food, warm hospitality, and an experience my son and I will both remember. We'll definitely be back.

I ordered the lamb pita wrap and watched them grill the meat over wood-fired coals. It was fresh, flavorful, and delicious. If you're a big eater, order an extra skewer and have them add it to the wrap. We also started with the Labneh with garlic, which was a fantastic - it's fresh and vibrant. All of the breads are made in-house in their tandoor-style oven, and the pita served alongside it was warm, fresh and spectacular. The ordering process is simple - order at the counter, take a number, find a seat, and pick up your food when your number is called. The staff was clearly busy, but when I asked a few questions about the business, they were more than happy to stop and chat. I complimented them on both their operation and the food. They seemed genuinely appreciative. I think places like this are special because they are a well run kitchen with people who care about what they're doing. And in return it comes out in their product - really good food. The ovens and cooking area are customer facing, and everything is made to order right in front of you. The interior has the feel of a one time American diner with floor tiles that match the chairs. But make no mistakes about it, this is far from that. And when I was sitting there watching the person grill skewers over the wood coals, I was thinking that this restaurants kitchen was being run like I was sitting in an open-air café in Beirut. Authenticity is on full display here and it's appreciated.
